The only reason I can give is one mentioned in his application for the event. That at the moment of the announcement of the war between two forces Dustian was having a minor "Sabers" related mission with the mayor of the town. When things were starting to heat up Dust saw it as a possibility to forge tighter relationships with the mayor and gain some influence over the city. He volunteered to become the mayors bodyguard for the period of Vanguards assault to show "Sabers" good will.

➟ Official Status Detail: Shadow Fall has sent out hydrogen to vanguard bases. Dashel, Pierre and PErseus have left the scene to alert and stop them from reaching their targets. Mission abandoned by them to assure the safety of a larger population. The mountain near the town has also been destroyed by a hydrogen bomb explosion caused by Dashel in an attempt to strike down Shadow Falls defenses, attempt failed.
