Here Comes Goodbye[Ehefera, Natasha]
Wed Oct 30, 2024 5:09 pm
NATASHA MILLER | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
Christ, life sure was growing hectic with each passing day, wasn't it? The Gotei United had dissolved. And Natasha's natural reaction to that information was shock. What happened to them? Who attacked? Even more, would the Vandenreich and the City of Lights be next? There were so many thoughts floating through her head, but none of them mattered too much right now. Unraveling the mystery behind all that could wait.
After all, there was another piece of info that fell into her lap that required her immediate focus. Ehefera was resigning from the Vandenreich. No break, no vacation... she was going somewhere else soon. She had been meaning to visit her in the hospital, but duty called, and the hours couldn't align the way she wanted. But what was done was done.
At the very least, she'd visit her now and say her goodbyes. Of course, before she got dressed and went over, she decided to prepare some of her finest meals and desserts to send her off, each packaged in a way that she could reheat and enjoy in her own time. There was stuff she prepared for her when they used to hang out, and even some new recipes Ehefera could enjoy. Cakes, cookies, homemade mac and cheese... would she accept all of it? Maybe, maybe not, but she wouldn't let a woman she considered a dear friend leave without knowing how much she genuinely cared about her. Without hesitation, with a bag full of treats, Natasha knocked at Ehefera's door.
"Heff, it's me, Sweetheart. Can I come in and say my goodbyes?"

When she got to the front door, she didn't see Ehefra, but rather, a tall, white-haired man raising his brows slightly as he noticed the lovely woman holding quite a bit of food. "Ah, You here to see Ehefra? Just a second, I'll get her. Here, let me get those for ya." He offered a gentle smile and a nod to the woman as he reached in and gently took the foodstuffs, backing into the door to let her in. Making his way to the kitchen to set some things down before heading upstairs. "Ehefra! One of your friends is here. Put clothes on." He called upstairs. Immediately there was a fuss, embarassed hissing from upstairs as Ehefra no doubt made a whole mess about her dad saying shit like that. Bauher grinned, clearly amused before chuckling as he nodded to Natasha. "She'll just be a second." He assured her before slipping into the other room to resume packing.
No less than a good fifteen seconds later did Ehefra slide down the stairs.
"Hey Nat!" Perhaps a bit startling, Ehefra was smiling from ear to ear, making her way over and promptly wrapping her arms around the woman, kissing Nat on the cheek before picking her up off the ground in that hug before wincing. "Fucking, ribs. Ugh... hey hon. Uh... hows.... work doing." She glanced over to the TV, with the headline 'Shinigami Extinction?" Blowing up what happened, as they did. She was curious about how things were happening with Nat.

NATASHA MILLER | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
"Easy there, sweetheart. We don't need ya breakin' any more bones before you go home."
Natasha was taken for a loop when she saw the white-haired male. Automatic assumption? This guy had to be her father. He had a sort of fatherly air about him, but she didn't linger on him for too long. Difficult to do that when your friend was squeezing and kissing you on the cheek, ya know? Maintaining her bubbly smile, she gently returned the hug, mindful of the woman's injuries. After how many hospital visits she had, she was no particular stranger to recovery periods. Following Ehefera's gaze, Natasha placed a hand at her hip as she let out a playfully exasperated sigh.
"Busy as hell, honey. As you can see, news Is slowly spreading around about the Gotei dissolving. No idea how it happened, though. Can only imagine they ran into the wrong type of enemies. Everyone's been on high alert, as a result... but, m'real happy to see you again. Sorry, I couldn't pay ya a visit at the hospital..."
Wrapping her arms around the woman, pulling her into an embrace of her own, she rested her chin against the woman's forehead. Wow, she still couldn't believe she was leaving, even though she'd been made aware. Part of her hoped she could at least visit her, but she'd let her raven-haired companion decide that in the end. What with their history and all, she didn't have the right to demand that of her, now did she?
"So yer' going back home, eh? I'm gonna miss ya', Heff."

Ehefra snorted softly and flashed a grin at that. "Hey now I was joking, I'm not that bad." She promptly barbed back, taking a seat and sighing softly as she watched the report for a few seconds before turning her attention back to Natasha. "I heard you guys got a new name change and everything. Even went ahead and invited the retired shinigami to join up. Guess that means you'll probably have a few new recruits to charm. Only now they'll be old enough to be your ancestor." She noted with a little smirk. Blinking a few times when Natasha pulled her into a brief hug, and she sighed, closing her eyes for a moment and took a moment to relax. Falling silent for several long moments even when Natasha pulled away.
"More than that...." She noted quietly, lightly rolling her shoulders as she looked back up to Natasha and her face grew a bit more serious. But even more than that... a tiredness seeped into her expression. Not physically tired, but ... emotionally tired.
"I'm gonna go say goodbye to mom." She added quietly, looking up to ... perhaps one of the only people who actually knew about ... well. Not even that. It was... surprising to think about, but looking up at NAtasha, she remembered.
She didn't know.
Actually...NOBODY knew. And that probably had a lot to do with why she'd carried it this long, why she .... couldn't just take temporary leave. And after a few seconds, Ehefra took a slow, deep breath.
"Natasha..... a few weeks after the Kurosaki attack on the city oflights. My mom... who had been ... sick... and bedridden since I was little... she-" She closed her eyes and thinned her lips. And for just a moment, her instincts fought her. Before finally she spoke up. "She died. I didn't tell anyone. To be honest, I didn't even really process it. You're the only person in this whole city, other than my dad, who I've spoken to about this." she trailed very quietly. Sure, her dad maybe had talked to people about it. But she doubted that. Mom's death hurt him so much more. She'd known Mom as sick and weak her whole life. But dad.... Dad watched the woman he loved turn into ... that.
"She was sick. Really sick. So sick that it hurt to be around her. And when I was ... sixteen or so. I couldn't take it anymore, I ran away from home, and became a quincy." She explained softly, closing her eyes for several long moments as tears budded up in her eyes. "And that ... was the last time I ever saw my mom. I never went home since then. And .. the only thing I'm going to be able to see of her... is gonna be her gravestone." She noted quietly.

"Yep. We're the Wahrender now. Still gettin' used to that name, though. Far as the recruits go, heh, they might be old enough to be my ancestors, but my southern charm'll win em' over all the same. That's the hope at least."
Exchanging playful banter, she'd follow Ehefera over as she sat at the table with her, momentarily glancing over at the television. The idea of new recruits didn't exactly bother her. After all, the more allies, the better, right? Of course, that line of thought was interrupted the moment Ehefera took a minute to settle down, unveiling some information that had never crossed her ears before.
That is, her mother's passing and the timeframe in which it happened. Christ... talk about the whole world crashing in on her at once. Ichigo Kurosaki's attack had already been devastating for everyone involved, but to have the women who raised and cared for you die a week after... that must've been awful. And she kept it in the entire time.
"Christ, Ehefera, I..."
For a moment, a momentary lull had set in the air as Natasha parsed those words, gazing at the table. Thinking back on it, between the Kurosaki attack and what happened in Miami, and even her recent injuries, how much had she kept in? Did she talk to anyone else about this? Or anything else that bothered her? Judging by her expression and admission alone, that didn't seem to be the case. Rising from her chair, she'd walk over and pull the woman into a warm embrace. This one, compared to the first, was far more apologetic in its nature and intent. She wished she could've reached out sooner, to support her, and show her she cared...
"I'm sorry I couldn't find time to reach out sooner, Heff. I can't even begin to imagine how awful that must've felt."

Re: Here Comes Goodbye[Ehefera, Natasha]

Ehefra nodded softly at that and closed her eyes as she saw how Natasha took the information. It made her ... anxious. Uncomfortable even. And more than that, guilty. There was a reason she didn't want ... people to know about this. But ... she figured it was time. As much as she might have liked to halt Natasha moving in, tell her that she hardly deserved such a thing. She ... let it happen. Closing her eyes a bit as Natasha swept her up in that motherly comforting, and Ehefra gentle hugged the woman back. But after a few seconds, she pulled back and cleared her throat.
"Yea.... and about that. The reason... I'm telling you this. And the reason... that I... the reason I wanted to see you again. Is I don't know...IF I'm going to see you again." She confessed quietly, looking up at Natasha and taking a steady breath. "When I quit...I only intended to say goodbye to my mother. But ..hearing what happened to soul society. I can't lie. I can't stop thinking about if .my mom's soul passed on. And got caught up in all of that. So ... once I've gone to her gravem and paid my respects. I plan on trying to get passage to the world of the dead. I don't know how. But I...I can't just sit here and wonder what happened to her.So I'm going to go looking for her. And I don't know if that's a two way trip. So ... I just..." She closed her eyes and thinned her lips.
"I know we didn't get off on the best foot. Probably... a whole lot more ... mouths on eachothers... stuff.. than is probably healthy. But you're still one of my best friends Natasha. And I don't think...I could have kept all this inside me for so long without you there helping me. You're... like the .... stepsister I never had. And I just wanted you to know that."
