Joshua moved as he seldom did, with focused haste. There was energy bouncing all around, and even if the chaos of the fighting was winding down the horror and chaos of the aftermath would be starting to rise. He didn’t have time, nor inclination, to take all that in; focus on the problems in his hands. Whatever the kidō modification Tairifuck has used was, it clung on. Instead of the fire Joshua had expected it ended up something like that napalm the people down in the World of the Living had gotten up to using a while back. Which meant it clung and burned and kept on burning. Joshua’s left side continued to scream at him, and he shoved the pain off. Focus on the now. He reached out with his senses, and found what he was looking for.
“Almost there; hang on just a sec’ more,” he said to his two tag-alongs, even if he was pretty sure one was out cold and the other might not have been able to hear him.

A few moments later he arrived at the edge of what looked like a make-shift triage site. He’d been pretty sure he’d sensed it on his way over, and it turned out to be the right call.

“Can I get some help over here! Got some actively melting people,” he called as he set the unconscious Koga down and helped Hana down as gently as he could manage. His left side was frozen, and it was probably for the best that he couldn’t see what it was looking like under that. His luck had held so far getting all three of them to friendly faces, now he just had to hope it could hold out a little longer and that someone here could help these two.

Probably him too, but he could worry about that hand of cards on the next dealing.

Kaminari was focused on using Kaido to close the gaping wound across a man’s chest when a cry for help pierced the air. The voice was familiar, but it was the look of terror in the eyes of those entering the medical station that fully pulled her attention away from her patient. Glancing up, her gaze locked onto their rather gory injuries. Blood-streaked burns, torn flesh, and an eerie stillness.

"Reika, here. Now," Kaminari barked the order, her voice cold and sharp as she motioned for a subordinate to take over, giving Reika permission to abandon her current paperwork. Kaminari rushed toward the new arrivals.

Joshua struggled with Koga's limp form, the man’s skin charred and broken in strange patterns, clearly burned by something more sinister than fire. Together, they lowered him onto a stretcher, and Kaminari began her examination of this injuries.

Hana collapsed beside them as Joshua let her go. Her face was pale, a stark contrast to the burns and cuts scattered across her skin. Koga remained unresponsive the entire time, and though she sat quietly, panic gripped her. Her breaths came in shallow, frantic bursts, her hands trembling. The pain in her legs and the burns scattered across her skin dulled her senses, but not enough to numb the guilt tearing through her. She should have saved him, but all she could do was watch that horror unfold. And now, she wasn't sure he would live another day...

“You guys take a hit for the girl, or something?"

Kaminari had meant it as a joke, seeing how much damage had been done to them, while practically nothing was on Hana. Seeing Hana grip her own hands so tightly they shook, Kaminari reached out and in a show of kindness and confidence. She gently turned Hana's gaze toward her. "I've got them. They'll be fine."

"M'hm," a soft whimper and a weak nod was all Kaminari got in return.

"What happened? Explain these injuries." Kaminari's voice was calm, and she already knew... reiryoku burns were unmistakable, the twisted energy having eaten into the flesh. Yet, something about these wounds felt more malevolent, twisted.

Joshua had not been expecting to see anyone he knew all that well when he happened onto the triage site, but it seemed his luck was paying him back for earlier. Despite himself, the situation, and the pain Joshua cracked an almost normal smile as Kaminari snapped an order and walked out of the crowd to help.
“I am so glad to see you again,” he said, a genuine compliment without any snark involved. Kaminari helped him set the unconscious Koga down on the stretcher, and Hana all but collapsed when Joshua wasn’t holding her up. She seemed like she was in shock, which wasn’t all that surprising really.
“Eh...something like that,” Joshua said as answer to Kaminari’s first question. It was exactly like that for him to be fair. Kaminari spoke to Hana, and at least got something of a response out of her. Joshua took a breath; poker face, time to put in work. Joshua stepped away Hana and sat down somewhat heavily, his left side out of sight of the younger woman.

“Hana, hey,” he said, dragging her attention to him. He gave her a wide smile with as much warmth as he could pull together. “It’s alright. Maybe you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her before, so let it be mine to introduce you to Kaminari Hatakeyama; probably the most talented healer the Gotei has on its payroll right now,” he said, gesturing at the woman who was busy looking over Koga once more. “We’re gonna make it kid,” he added, in a lower and softer tone. He wasn’t sure if it was the right thing, but he threw his right arm around her and pulled her in tight. “We’re alive, we’re gonna make it.”

Kaminari spoke up, asking a rather important question.
“Didn’t see most of it, but some dumbfuck rogue shini had turned up here to cause problems along with all the chaos. Seems he was picking on Hana here, when me and this guy happened on the scene. He dropped a kido on us; called out Sokatsui, but he’d modified it somehow. Its actin’ more like napalm or magma than proper fire. Started by hitting that guy then rounded it onto us.”

Hana barely turned her head enough to let Joshua know she heard him. Her eyes remained fixed on Koga and the unbearably horrid wounds he received. It wasn’t until Joshua wrapped an arm around her that she finally turned away, and when seeing the comforting smile he always offered, Hana’s already fragile composure shattered. Her face twisted and she quickly hid behind her hands. She still tried keeping herself together, but it all slipped out as ragged breaths, soon turning into broken sobs she couldn’t control. “Please, forgive me,” she begged between sobs.

Kaminari placed her hand on Joshua and Koga at the same time, taking a low breath as she recited her incantation, “In sight of victory, surrounded by light. The guardian rises to protect the weak. A vow of pure resolve.” Originally, this bakudo had been made to support those in the middle of battle, but it would slow the burning on both of them for the next minute or so, giving her time to handle the altered reiryoku. It did this by increasing their durability, though they would feel heavier, like they were carrying extra weight. Luckily, that did not matter now.

“Crawling from the edge, restore all blood and flesh. Reconstruct the wall and follow through to sanctuary,” Kaminari recited as she placed a hand on both Hana and Joshua. Their rate of healing would increase by 150%, giving her time to deal with Koga. From there, she unsheathed her zanpakuto and released her shikai. Using the blade, Kaminari began slowly using it to cut away the napalm that was clinging to Koga. It movements were as surgical as they could be in this situation, and because of the nature of her shikai, was working extremely well.

Joshua’s smile turned a little more somber, and he pulled Hana in tight again as she broke down and apologized. He’d only caught the last of what Tairifuck had been spouting, but he guessed the asshole had been doing a number on the poor girl both physically and mentally.
“Shhh now, none of that. Ain’t you that needs forgiven Hana. Ain’t you at all,” he said as soothingly as he could, and otherwise he gave Hana silence. Sometimes silence and a chance to get out what you had stuck in your head is all you needed, and sometimes it was all you had to give. Kaminari reached out, weaving some combination of kaido spells over all three of them and Joshua was happy for it. The pain that had been pounding in his frozen side abaited, if only enough that he wasn’t having to keep it walled out of his thoughts so much. Any relief he’d take though.

He gave Kaminari her space to work, and Hana her silence to cry, and just sat and let it wash over him. Joshua had an advantage here over Hana; he’d seen this kind of horror before. He’d lived through the demon incursion years back and the worst of their initial offensive more than a hundred years prior. Not to say this was pleasant or a walk in the park, not by any means. Joshua though had seen, first hand, that horrible things could and did come to your doorstep from time to time. He’d had time to work out how to handle those thoughts.

After some time, once it looked like Kaminari had worked through the worst of what she was dealing with, Joshua spoke up again.

“You make heads or tails of what exactly the fucker modified that kidō with?”

By the time Koga was stable, Hana had gotten to tired to cry. Her body was still trembling, and a hand clinging to Josh at every moment, as if she would fall through the ground and land in hell if she let go, but she was silent.

Kaminari took a breath and stood up to move over to Josh and Hana. “Your friend is stable. He took quite the beating, but he’ll live,” Kaminari said as she sat down in front of Joshua. With a sigh, clearly from being tired, Kaminari began cutting away the ice from Joshua, but could feel her energy waning. “… Can… you do this?”

Hana released Joshua and crawled over to Koga. She sat down next to him and ran her hand through his hair, looking over the wounds that seemed to be slowly healing even as Kaminari moved away. "I am so sorry, Koga..." she whispered.

"A girl like that shouldn't even be in the Gotei..." Kaminari whispered, holding her hands over Joshua and utilizing regular kaido to deal with his injuries.

Joshua let Hana go over to Koga as Kaminari turned her attention to himself, watching the younger woman as she continued to beat herself up over this. Kaminari spoke up, drawing his attention back.
“Oh, yeah. Not a repeat of last time,” Joshua said, and as he did his Zanpakuto shifted back to its sealed form. As it did the ice began to rapidly melt; Kaminari didn’t even have to put much energy towards getting rid of the ice. For his part Joshua closed his eyes and focused again for a few moments, adjusting his mind to the increase in pain before it began to recede as well. Kaminari would find Joshua an easier case to work on; much of the ‘magma’ had been flash frozen and changed to steam instead of continuing to burn through Joshua. Instead, Joshua had a line of bubbling flesh and burns up his side. Even that was likely clearing up however, thanks to the kaido she had used earlier.

He opened his eyes, more somber and serious than was normal for him, and fixed Kaminari with a look at her comments. He shook his head lightly after a moment.

“Nah. Everyone has their first time, faced with things like this. Most of us don’t handle it well,” he said simply.

Kaminari was surprised to see that Joshua wasn’t his usual smiling, sunshine-and-rainbows self. Even he, it seemed, could take something seriously. Still, that night was far from one of her proudest moments. “I’m going to take this opportunity to embarrass myself and apologize at one of the dumbest times…” Kaminari said, her eyes still focused on his injuries. “I was rude… It was uncalled for… The night we went out, I mean. You didn’t deserve that treatment; I am still uncertain why I felt so... Let's call it 'out of place'... Anyways, yeah... Sorry about that night."

Hana sat silently next to Koga, completely able to hear Kaminari's apology. In the midst of it, Hana could not help but look back over her shoulder at Joshua, pointing at Kaminari, shaking her head, and mouthing 'I do not like this woman' before turning back around to Koga. She did her best to ignore the rest...

It was generally hard to catch Joshua flat-footed in conversation, he had a great knack for rolling with most anything that could come up. This, however, managed it quite expertly. Of all the places to receive an apology for a rocky date the middle of a warzone-triage center was, he had to admit, not high on the list of likely places. He couldn’t help it, he let out a little chuckle; both at the timing and some of the sentiment. Hana’s reaction in the background certainly did not help him keep a straight face.
“Nah, its alright. Sometimes things just don’t work out, so it ain’t yer fault if the date went sideways. I’ll accept yer apology for the attitude though,” Joshua said, giving Kaminari a warm smile that told the shape of things; water under the bridge. Joshua wasn’t one to hold onto a grudge for something like that.

“If ya feel bad about it though, you can make it up to me by taking me to dinner some night. No date, just...dinner. Maybe once ya ain’t got so much on yer plate,” Joshua offered. It didn’t hold the tone or intent of flirting; more like an olive branch. “Speaking of dinner, you gonna be her a while I take it. Would it help ta bring ya something? Hell, I can talk to a buddy of mine and see if we can’t get some stuff run out for the whole lot of ya out here. If yer all gonna keep us dumbasses up and running around, should at least return the favor.”

That chuckle was quickly met with a short glare, but she continued it anyways. Perhaps she deserved to be laughed at; this was not the time for such things, and the date was… horrible, and it was her fault. The least she could do was ignore that… Seeing a smile, Kaminari gave a quick nod and kept working. “Thanks…”

In the background, Joshua could see Hana giving a quick thumbs up and then it dramatically overturned into a big thumbs down, even if she was still keeping her eyes on Koga. 'She.. doesn't seem like his type... Hana what do you know anyway?'

“I can do that, but it might take a while…” Kaminari said, looking out toward the Seireitei. People were still fighting, injured being brought in… People were still dying out there. Kaminari knew her service would do better here. At least those she helped could return to the fight or survive the night until things continued again. “If anyone outside of the medical corps is cooking right now, I would be surprised, but if you have some connections for food, none of us would complain…”
