On Old Soil [Lilynette, Open for 2]
Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:25 pm
Perhaps she should have been more apprehensive. This was it, they were charging into the mouth once again.
The last time she had been here was more than a hundred years ago. As the various gargantas craned open all over soul society, Lilynette's own peeled open away from the others. To a spot that had no doubt not seen much attention from the gotei proper in quite some time. Something that had been constructed in what no doubt was a feat of ingenuity and Soul Society planning and anticipation to such a major battle.
The spot that Lilynette first arrived, was an exact replica of Karakura Town. Destroyed for the most part, but still, a monument to the battle that had once raged in the world of the living, that had once been swapped with the identical location in the world of the living.
She thought she would feel nostalgic. That maybe she'd see some section that was familiar. But no, it all just felt....empty.
She turned her attention to the Sereitei off in the distance, and then off to the side where she could sense that Vasto Lorde rampaging off in the distance, a look of disdain creeping across her face as a sigh escaped her. "Who the fuck let that thing here?" She murmured, eyes drifting back to the gotei itself. A soft tingle in her head as she took a moment to sense the spirits in the area, furrowing her brows. She didn't sense any of them out in the rukongai.
"Guess theyre too busy? Whatever." She murmured, as her wolves promptly crowded around her as she crouched down, half a dozen of them swarming in before their bodies shifted inot that flow of blue reiryoku, pouring their bodies into the chamber of Lilynette's Sniper rifle as she brought it to bear, aiming at the Wall from her vantage point. Oh...there WAS no wall. Neat.
"Lo Suelo."
BANG!
The shot rang out as that bullet infused with several pieces of her soul ripped through the air, a shockwave rushing outward through the surrounding ruins as the bullet would plow straight into the Gotei Proper, slamming into the Sogyoku hill. A brief twinkle before a tremendous explosion erupted in a violent pillar of blue light that obliterated the area. A burning disaster that would slowly get worse, as the flames simply reformed into wolves that would soon begin spreading out, recycling the explosive energy, and getting ready to detonate again.
Clink.
She popped the cartridge, and more wolves moved in for their turn in the barrel, and she turned her attention to the next landmark.

RIO SHIHOIN
A full-scale invasion had broken out in the Soul Society. Arrancar and Hollow alike were running rampant with each passing second. There was no room to question it. There was simply one objective - remove the threat and drive back every invader from her home realm. As the vice-captain of the combat division and a proud member of the Shihoin, that was her duty. That was law. To go against it would be to go against what she stood for.
No thought beyond eliminating the enemy circled through her mind. The collective frustration of recent events. The lingering sense of defeat. The perceived thought that she had lost her touch - none of it mattered. Ideally, she would've preferred if she could employ her bankai here, but the timeframe was not to her advantage, for indeed only a month had passed since that battle in the wartorn plains of Africa.
No matter. The time for battle was near, and her opponent, far too obvious with her explosive offense, was now chosen. Several bursts of shunpo carried her forward as she whirled through the air, thrusting her zanpakuto toward the sky, uttering the blade's release phrase.
"Harden, Tetsumaru."
In an instant, four obsidian blades hovered at her back like a set of wings. Pulling at the chain of one of them, she manipulated its form until it turned into a blade akin to a large cleaver. Another second passed, and she was roaring toward Lilynette from above like a meteor that had chosen its intended target, aiming to strike first and strike true. There was no dialogue. Golden irises burned with murderous ferocity. She would defend her realm as the shield she embodied in body and spirit.

Huh. Well that was.... interesting.
She sensed Rio's approach well before the woman actually plowed their way towards her. Her Pesquisa was sharp, especially with the shinigami unleashing her Shikai as she approached. Eyes flicked in the direction of the Shinigami as they burst towards her, and in the very last second, her body slipped to the side as that shikai slammed down, the multiple blades threatening to shear through the section of skyscraper she'd been perched up on, and those eyes narrowed as an unamused look crossed the arrancar's face. Small topngues of flames flickering to life in the air around her. Activating La Manandana to strengthen her pesquisa.
"Fuck, you came here by yourself?" She managed to ask before the sheer force of that impact caused the top of the building to practically explode, shreds of cement flying as she hopped back a few steps and rested her sniper rifle across her shoulders, hanging her arms over either end of it almost like a staff held across her back as she stuck her tongue out at the shinigami.
"Pleasure to meet ya, Tits. Sorry but I'm not here looking for a new girlfriend. Why don't you come back later? Momma's got a lot of shit to blow up before she has time to be lick pussy, Mi querida~" She barked out crassly, grinning from ear to ear as she did.

RIO SHIHOIN
The large obsidian cleaver cut through thin air, colliding with the building as Rio landed against its remnants. A rudimentary technique merited lackluster results. Little surprise there. The oafish arrancar hardly struck her as an opponent who would fall prey to a simple sneak attack. Judging by the explosive firepower, however small a sample it was, allowing her even a moment's reprieve would be troublesome.
Civilian casualties were already high as it were, and she didn't wish to increase those numbers if possible. Spinning the obsidian cleaver around, Rio scoffed at the woman's obscene language, a fierce golden gaze ignited by immense pride. Came by herself? Come back later? What utter tripe. Laughable, even. Such a foolish thought would never cross her mind. There was nothing she despised more than being underestimated. It only provoked the more violent aspect of her soul.
"My realm is not your playground for target practice, scum. Likewise, that filthy prattle of yours is lost on me."
Little else was shared in the form of dialogue. Nothing needed to be said. If she wished for her to go away, then her objective was simple. Strike her down until she could move no longer. Rio was focused on nothing but eliminating or driving her target back.
Another shunpo burst and her body vanished and reappeared toward Lilynette. The three obsidian blades at her back morphed into long chains that sought to wrap and ensnare her while swinging her large blade forward yet again, intent on violently cutting through this woman's flesh.

Lilynette's smile widened all the more as she grinned towards the Lieutenant. "HAHAHA! Well aren't YOU just friggin cute?~" She cackled as her eyes flicked to track the motion of the woman's shunpo. Sticking her tongue out as those chains slammed into her body, coiling around her frame and locking the arrancar in place. Brows perked up before she eyed the chains squishing her frame. Those looked pretty sturdy actually! She had to admit, the strength of these wasn't anything to sneeze at, even being just from Shikai. Not that she didn't have a way to just obliterate them if push came to shove. But she had to give it to the woman for switching up her strategy.
"Heh, didn't think a Spinster like you would be into tying up chicks like me. am I goin to get punished?~" She flashed a lopsided little smile.
Just as an incredibly bright light shined from the distance. A look of confusion on Lilynette's features as she turned and spotted a massive beam tear-assing through the rukongai from soul society.
Lilynette made a confused whine as she tilted her head towards the incoming Getsuga Shikishou as it barreled towards the pair of them. The vision of Lilynette promptly turning back into a wolf just as that massive beam plowed into it and obliterated not just the wolf, temporarily, but destroyed the buidlings that they had been on, before plowing straight through and further into the rukongai.
"What the FUCK?!" Rio would hear Lilynette's voice from behind her. That sniper rifle pointed at the back of her head, a move she'd executed while she'd left her Wolf Clone behind to take those chains, but the sudden attack drew the arrancar's attention and she glared in the direction of the Soul Society. So many damn spiritual pressures. A Cero Oscuras from IChigo very clearly blotting out another section of the sereitei. Some kinda thumping sound?
But more than that, she locked in on the spiritual pressure that RIO probably would have recognized instantly. Getsuga Shikishou was Hakuyou's attack after all. And no sooner had that tremendous blast piled through the area, than did his spiritual pressure suddenly plummet. The signal that a soul was almost dead. And the spiritual pressure he'd been fighting... Oh. Huh. It wasn't an arrancar. It was another Bankai.
"Jesus fuck. I always knew you guys had shit between ya. But now you're killin eachother durin all this shit? That guy felt like he'd be related to Ichigo." She murmured with a curl of contempt to her lip before glancing over to Rio, narrowing her eyes. "You shinigami really fuckin disgust me sometimes. You really are no better than those fuckin Espada from back in the day." She clicked her tongue.
And Rio would find herself surrounded by the flicker of more of Lilynette's forms. Four more wolves transformed into her, pointing sniper rifles at the woman in a circle around her. "Not gonna lie, I'm tempted to leave some of the kids here with you and go check out whoever shot that blast. Might be a shame if someone killed a guy like that. Waddaya say, mind babysitting for me while I go take a trip? Or hell, ya wanna tag along?~" She asked with a calm smirk.
But there wasn't a lie in her words. She didn't seem entirely decided on killing Rio after all. And she did sound rather curious about the fight going on in the Sereitei.

RIO SHIHOIN
"!?"
An unexpected beam of light threatened likewise to strike the Shihoin true, forcing her to transmute her cleaver into a large shield of obsidian. Even then, the immensity of the blow forced her to double back as parts of the shield shattered into shards of reiryoku. Where did that blast come from? Had one of their own betrayed them? No, that wasn't it.
Defending herself long enough to shunpo away from the blast's radius, Rio momentarily found herself lost in deducing the madness behind the current situation. The first spiritual pressure undoubtedly belonged to Hakuyou Shiba - the first man she ever loved, one whose determination she admired, for it equaled and surpassed her own. It didn't shock her that, he, too, would join this battlefield. Such an action seemed customary for a man of his standard. Yet, something felt decidedly off.
Even with her ironclad will, uneasiness suddenly settled in, like a heavy weight on her soul. The unmistakable spiritual pressure plummeted quickly like a bright star fading from existence. Second by second, it was fading out. Even more still, there was another spiritual pressure exploding in the distance. However, with so many others overwhelming her Reikaku, she couldn't quite discern who it was. According to Lilynette, one of them allegedly belonged to another Shinigami, but how did she know that? Was it another way of deceiving her?
"Hakuyou..."
Of all the times to be fighting against the other, why were they clashing blades? They were supposed to be fighting against the invaders. Whatever method she was trying to employ, Rio wasn't particularly keen on taking her at her word. Of course, the momentary lapse in hesitation caused her to neglect where Lilynette had appeared next.
In the blink of an eye, golden irises recognized the clones surrounding her, rifles poised in advance. How shameful. She let her guard down at the crucial moment. In truth, though part of her was bold enough to press the issue and fight on, experiencing any number of attacks right now would only work against her. After all, shameful as it was to admit, Rio's attention was focused squarely on the phenomenon unfolding in the distance.
The disgusting thought that she might tag along with the enemy, whose curiosity and motives she questioned to no end, agitated her to no small degree. And yet, part of her genuinely wanted Hakuyou to survive. If there was even the slightest chance she could save Hakuyou, was there merit in taking it? Better yet, did he even want to be saved? Exhaling softly, regaining her composure, she turned her head in Lilynette's direction, a hand raised to signal a temporary ceasefire, though that hardly meant she wanted to take her up on her offer just yet. In fact, without even giving the woman a second longer to speak, she wanted to run forward, regardless of what she was saying at the moment.
Somewhere deeper in her soul, amid that burning fury, there seemed to exist a sense of regret, unearthed in the turmoil. No... perish the thought. Those bygone days should have passed now. Why was the past racing back to her all at once, and now of all times?
"Dammit...!"

Lilynette raised her brows slightly as she noticed the look in the woman's eyes. What a pathetic sight. The woman was surrounded by weapons, and all things considered, she really should have probably kept fighting her. But the look on Rio's face struck something. A bit of familiarity. Maybe it was being in this damn fake ass city, but she was reminded of that goddamn fight a long time ago. When she thought Starrk had died.
Whoever that guy was, he sure was important to this woman.
But she could see Rio wasn't able to make that decision. What was she , a Lieutenant? Something like that? Her and her precious duties. She found herself thinking back to that fucking captain with the flowery cape. That stupid look on his face. And it got her angry.
"That guy must be real important to you huh? Well don't you worry."
The clones flickered. glowing slightly.
In the next instant, there was a roar as the building they were on, and several nearby biuildings promptly exploded fantastically, a massive eruption of spiritual energy that would shine across the landscape as she promptly nuked the everliving fuck out of the spot.
Not that it would hurt a hair on her own head. But for Rio? Well that'd be quite the hefty blow. And as the smoke started to clear, Lilynette would still be standing on the same spot, albeit on a reiryoku platform rather than an actual building.
"Don't you worry, pretty girl. I'll take the situation outta yer hands."

RIO SHIHOIN
What a foolish misstep in judgment. An experienced veteran of the battlefield, and here she was, faltering where it mattered most. To commit a single error on the battlefield was the same as inviting death to one's doorstep. She knew that unwavering law as well as anyone, so why didn't she follow through?
Even if she hadn't defeated the woman, she could assuredly say she fought to a standard she took pride in. None of that would come to pass now. An explosion of severe magnitude flashed through the area, quicker than she could react to any meaningful degree. Before she could even turn around to move, the explosive light enveloped her in an instant. What a fool. Her inaction led to this. What weight did an invader's words even hold? Why should they have mattered? Did she even occupy Hakuyou's thoughts as much as she allowed him to occupy her own?
"Guh... Kuh... Ha... Ha..."
Emerging from the collapsed rubbled, body bruised and bloodied, but not unbowed, Rio stumbled forward as she glared daggers at Lilynette. The sheer force of the explosion had promptly overwhelmed her to a degree where her zanpakuto could no longer operate as it did moments prior. Rio's energy was compromised. There was no doubt about it. Movement felt painful, but she stubbornly remained upright. Needless to say, it wouldn't take much more to knock her out. Tch....
Pitiful.

Lilynette raised her brows for a moment before peering at the woman. She'd seen the woman down in africa.. She was part of the combat division. Sure she hadn't seen them in person, but her wolves kept enough of an eye on the area that she'd seen the woman at least once or twice. But for real was this all she could manage? Hm... no.
She peered down at the woman and sharpened her pesquisa. Huh, she was wiped out, still recovering from something? Whatever the case, she could tell this was hardly all the Lieutenant was capable of. "Talk about bad luck. Who'd have thunk that we'd wind up attacking while your soul's all fucked up. Yer spiritual pressure's fucked, even before I blew you up.But hey, don't gimme that look." She murmured as she vanished and promptly slipped in behind the woman, her rifle barrel pressed into Rio's back before she promptly fired, a loud, concussive CRACK splitting through the otherwise quiet landscape as she fired a pitch black Oscuras round that would punch clean through the woman's navel, enough to take them out of the fight, but not enough to kill them, or force them unsconscious. She recalled very distinctly, the wounds Aizen had inflicted on captains so long ago, intent on keeping them conscious so that they could watch Karakura be destroyed. Hell, she'd been in the same state. She wondered if that flower guy had done that on purpose.
"Funny. You shinigami always call us hollows heartless. But I can't say yours has gotten you anywhere good. Lo Suelo, Lloba Solitaria."

RIO SHIHOIN
"Bhhhrkgh...!"
Blood poured from her mouth as the oscuras round bore through her flesh. Of course, she was mindful enough to recognize, even in her bruised and bloodied state, that this was no fatal wound. After all, she was still conscious. What was this woman's motive? What was she playing at? There was every opportunity to kill her right now and be done with it.
At the very least, Rio felt she might be freed from the shame of her defeat, but as the defeated, she had no right to object. Without much to offer in physical movement, she was at this vulgar arrancar's mercy. Even as the immense blow struck true, through sheer force of will, she attempted to step forward, but to no avail. In terms of raw offensive firepower, even her iron frame would find issues remaining upright.
Falling to her knees, Rio continued to regard the woman with a scornful gaze. To be defeated was already shameful enough, being mocked only reminded her of her pitiful failure. There was nothing else she could do now. She posed a simple question in response.
"Why...?"
