It really has been awhile.

Quietly disappearing without a word to her friend and acquaintances, and returning back after 2 years to an ongoing war that is raging outside the walls of Vastime, it was safe to say that even as a representative of the Russian Government, she had effectively abandoned her duties for a long time when she was up and gone from any further contact.

But it wasn't without a feeling of responsibility that washed over her.

Verniy had always been a little soldier of her own; following orders, nodding her head and just do what a typical soldier of war would do. However, her communication skills were lacking - which she felt inclined to at least leave and fix that problem on her own alone because she personally felt hindering other people's time and effort to helping her would label her as nothing more but a burden.

While it was a depressing event to have known that a friend of hers, Mirja, had passed away, there was Ulv that continued to hold her torch even after death, so while she has lost a friend, she also made another one that made her feel at home and went as far as to mend her problems despite meeting for the first time.

A debt that not only she owed to a friend but to Vastime and the Russian Government, the two entities that had provided her home, resources and a meaning to live.

And with her return back to the lands of Vastime, Verniy has decided to shoulder the responsibilities that she has left untouched for the past 2 years that she has gone out of the radar from Vastime.

In the early mornings, Verniy can already be seen to be training her control over her own psionic energy - if seen, the air around her would become distorted and audibly make light crackling sounds, attempting to figure out the process of deploying her Space Eater without the guidance of her weapon and anyone trying to get close to her would feel a strange wave of spiritual pressure breezing over their bodies from the unstable nature of energy that she scattered around her.

It was something that Verniy planned to do once every few days.

If she wants to become a more capable soldier to help Vastime during their crisis and during the time of war, even being in a midst of one, she has to at least maintain a routine and perfect her control over her own psionic energy.

She won't leave this time.

No more.

If duty calls, she will protect this home of hers even if it costs her life.

It had been a couple years since Carter had last spoken to Hayden and with his new urge to explore the world outside of war time he decided to see how the man's project of starting his own kingdom had come. The short white haired shinigami walked down the streets of Vastime with his hands tucked in his pockets. It was very impressive to see how far things had come since he had been away and in a way refreshing to see the world was fighting back against demonic oppression. His hopes were high as he walked the mindlessly through the streets, paying no mind to a thing until finally he looked around and realized he had walked off the beaten path.

When he tuned back into the world around him he felt a faint energy source near by, one of the few perks of being an angel was the ability to “feel” the world in a sense, to know how the wind moves even if the air is still, the temperature, the feel of energy coursing through the air, almost linking every living thing. But this wasn't just the standard background energy he was accustomed too. This was a forced energy, an energy that beings of power had in them and manifested with concentrated effort, this wasn't just the energy of breathing and being, it was the energy of effort and it caught his interest.

The closer he got to the the source the more unstable it felt, as if someone was just truly guiding it for the first time. Normally he would be in panic mode at sensing an energy source manifest since every other time he was on earth it meant an attack was coming but this time it didn't seem so finally tuned, there was ebbs in the flow of it, some waves came more intense than others, the steadiness of each wave hitting him was inconsistent as well. The biggest factor though was his location, Vastime had become so strong in the past few years it would be suicide for almost any single entity to attack.

Deciding that the energy source wasn't a threat Carter followed it to it's point of origin. The energy seemed to be coming from a girl, a strange looking girl, much the same height and weight as Carter and with hair like his own, from there the resemblance died as he noted her facial features, she appeared to be a hybrid of some eastern European and Asian countries. It was interesting to see the hardness of her face in places and the softer more Asian features in other places, they oddly complimented each other. Her eyes were another thing, hard blue focused orbs of ice. She looked different from the rest of the crowd to say and to seal in the fact that he thought she was the source of the energy the air around her seemed to distort and pop like electricity was coursing through it.

He simply decided to sit by and watch, thinking she was training and he often enjoyed to watch his old squad mates train back when he was the captain of internal affairs of the Gotei. In a strange way it did him some good to see people still focusing on staying sharp. With a quiet yawn he nestled near by and sat, his golden eyes watching, hoping to see whatever she was attempting to prefect.

It is already a difficult task to maintain her power especially with her bare hands, requiring a good extent of her concentration just to make sure it doesn't go wild out of her hand. When Verniy noticed someone that she didn't recognize watching her practice in such an early morning, she immediately became visibly nervous and things quickly went south.

"!"

That distortion she created earlier ago quickly darkened in color when she had lost her concentration, expanding in size on a rapid pace and without proper aim, Verniy tossed it away to a random direction as the lump of unstable yet destructive energy indiscriminately consumed every matter, air and energy that was in its way without a care in the world within a matter of seconds.

It was fortunate that she didn't sustain any injuries from it but the landscape that she threw at wasn't so lucky, where instead of dissipating away normally like it would after using up its own energy, it ruptured into a violent explosion, blowing away whatever's left of what it wasn't able to consume before.

It was.. well, dangerous. Without her sword to guide her energy, it would always end up violently and when she realized what had happened, Verniy would quickly turned her head towards the man who was watching her earlier ago, wondering if he was caught in the midst of her accident.

"I.. apologize for what happened.."

If he was in sight, Verniy would bow down in apology to him, whether he was caught in the crossfire or not. She didn't know what else to say, as luckily there weren't other people in sight that would've been caught in such a violent event.

Just when she thought she was finally a better soldier for once.

It was a quick moment, had he blinked he would have missed it. Control was lost, the girl seemed to know the energy she was using, she seemed familiar with it yet it seemed unfocused. In the moment he noticed it lacked focus she lost control, the energy was released, destructively yes but luckily no one was caught in the cross fire. She seemed to be in a panic even before she started speaking, her shoulders stiffened and a sweat hit her brow.

“I.. apologize for what happened..” she stammered as she bowed, he could tell she was embarrassed from being caught in her training. He merely shrugged, “You don't owe me an apology. I'm no one important and I wasn't hurt. ” His golden eyes studied her, her nervous demeanor didn't match the energy she had exuded when she thought she was alone just a moment before. It seemed out of character for this mystery person, she seemed a quiet unyielding type that barreled on.

Thinking back to the thing she had done a moment ago the energy felt almost alive, it was hard to explain but it felt a lot like the energy of his zanpakuto, it was alive in a sense due to it being it's own being. This woman wasn't a shinigami or else she would be in his data banks, she seemed human in all aspects yet had a sentient power she was training with. He only knew of a few races like that, Iramasha and Sugiurans and he knew one powerful Iramasha personally, a woman he considered like a sister, Cirno. The energy this woman put off didn't feel Iramasha at it's core and Sugiurans were known to have a sort of being in them, he wasn't one hundred percent on their details but he felt like maybe he was talking to his first Sugiuran.

So what is this? Are you training, I've never seen a Sugiuran in training... heck at or at all for that matter, before. ” He said, baiting her out, if she didn't dismiss herself as a Sugiuran Carter might actually be meeting a brand new, at least to him, race. It could offer him some insight on how the world was now to see other beings outside of what he knew.

Sorry for being so rude, my names Carter.” He said, offering his right hand in greeting, making sure not to add in what he was. He wanted to just talk to a person as a person, not as an official of The Gotei.

"..."

Apologies didn't seem enough for Verniy but her head tilted downwards, even though no one was hurt, she was still a little concerned over the fact that she had lost control momentarily. Since she experienced such blunders a couple of times, she fortunately was able to direct it away as fast as she could before she lost her arm. It was a power that even for her is difficult to have any proper control over on her own due to its nature.

"Is.. training not normal?"

When he had asked about her training, she somehow.. asked him a question back as a reply. Since it was something that she had done back in Russia, she thought that it was typical for someone to train at this time to sharpen their skills, learn new things or any purpose in that matter as long as they improve with persistence. She didn't deny that she is indeed a Sugiura but the idea of race never came across her mind when it comes to training, so it was odd to know that he had never seen someone like her train before.

"I can't.. control my power without my weapon. So I'm.. learning.."

Her words didn't seem to consistently come out of her mouth, taking minor stops here and there as her communication skills were barely holding on because of how rarely she ever talks to anyone at all except for a few. So, she wasn't exactly in her comfort zone with the way she is speaking.

"My name is.. Verniy. Nice to meet you,
товарищ.."

Calling him a comrade in Russian, it is a habit of hers to mix in a little bit of russian due to the environment that she grew up in, shaking his hand as well when she introduced herself.

"What.. brings you here in an early morning..?"

He smiled warmly when she asked if training wasn't normal, it seemed innocent enough and almost made him laugh at the pureness of the question. She didn't refute his noting that she was a Sugiuran and he began to mentally take note of how she acted, how she carried herself, the look in her eye, the feeling of her energy building a mere moment ago. It was almost instinct driven on his part, Carter had a habit of wanting to know as much as possible and she was a new element to him, one he wanted to understand as well.

His readings had taught him Sugiura beings were a lot like shinigami, vizard, and even in a way Ziamichi. They were a being that shared their soul with another being that was both one with them and entirely different on its own. The most interesting thing about Sugiura's though from his reading is most of their powers came from conceptual ideas. At least from what he had read the stronger ones had powers tied to concepts instead of base elements and in a way it reminded him of Truth, father of the angels and wielder of The Root, holder of the truest concept of them all. All these thoughts happened quicker than one could blink and his internal monologue didn't cross over and provide an awkward gap in conversation, without missing a beat he listened as she said she couldn't control her power without her weapon, his mind briefly flashing back to his own training with Cirno to unlock his hidden potential.

Verniy, it was a nice name, a name he hadn't heard before, unique. She followed up her name by calling him a comrade and it brought a confused look to his face, this interesting girl got more and more interesting. Her features had shown eastern European heritage but now her words confirmed a Russian upbringing. I was just out on a stroll to see the world when I happened by a strange girl using a quite powerful ability. I might not look it but I might be able to help you out here, I know I don't appear strong but I'm smart and might be able to offer pointers. First a few questions, you said you can't control your power without your weapon, is it like a focusing point for you or is the weapon the source of the power? ” He asked, the note of excited curiosity heavy in his words.

It hadn't crossed his mind to let her know he was a captain of the Gotei and if she had managed to feel his spirit pressure she would think him nothing more than an odd Plus spirit with little to no ability what so ever due to his power gained from his angelic evolution. In fact the girl may just think this was one nutty spirit and decide to be on her way but Carter was blissfully unaware of the potential, it hardly crossed his own mind how weak he looked and his status was in a murky area as he had just returned to duty from a two year retirement. If she would indulge him he would do his best to assist her in her training, she seemed nice enough and pure in her intent to master her power.

"Your.. strength do not matter.. Its.. the thought that counts.."

As Verniy accepted his help, she felt as if.. she had changed in a way. Ever since her interaction with Ulv, she felt more open to other people, emotions that she couldn't help but be contained inside was slowly coming back to her and no longer was she operating like a machine, avoiding people in sight. This time, she wasn't so hesitant with strangers now.

When he popped the question about her weapon, Verniy remained silent as it was better to demonstrate it for him compared to an explanation. She would let go of the constraints behind her psionic energy and immediately, Carter would feel a huge wave of spiritual pressure crashing over him and right away notice how erratic her energy is - all over the place, unstable and seemingly as if she had no control over how or where her psionic energies would go.

Once Verniy takes a grip on the handle of her sacred weapon, a katana hanging against her waist, the psionic energy would seem to have a life of its own, redirecting its own flow of energy into the weapon and compresses itself into a dense bundle of energy against the hilt of her katana. Even without a stance to use her weapon, once she swiftly drew out and re-sheathe her katana, a burst of energy would be shot forth out of weapon and produce an instantaneous, large void of energy that consumed everything on the area that it was summoned on before disappearing seconds later.

"You can call it.. a focusing point.."

The void she made, in short can be described as relentless and destructive. It barely cares who or what was standing in its way, like a glutton, it consumes everything it manages to get within its grasp.

"This isn't.. just powerful.. Its too dangerous.."

It was something that worries Verniy the most: it was the reason why she wanted to at least practice control over her powers. However, its nature prevents her to able to wield it properly despite the number of years that she has used it with her.

That is also why she didn't mind accepting Carter's help and show him the extent of her control over her powers because Ulv shown her that if she's more than willing, then maybe..

At least..

One or two problems can be solved.

The hilt of a sheaved blade. What better place for one to find a nice basket of buttery chocolate chip muffins? Even more so when one is meeting someone for the first time. A delicious basket of muffins could make the difference between short lived acquaintances and life long friends.

With a joyous hum a figure draped in a silken red cloth would seemingly pop into existence behind the boy with the snow white hair. The scent of fresh roses would soon fill the air as she moves to slip to his right side, and down her arm a hand woven wooden basket would slide into her hand. Her hand would seem to pass through the boy's hip, the grip of the basket following with it till it reached the hilt of his Zanpakuto. As the handle slipped past the hilt she would let it go and the basket would suddenly fall back down, the handle hitting the hilt with a gentle rustle as it sides down to meet the guard.

Then as quickly as it had appeared the figure would be gone. All that remained was a basket with a red silk cloth obscuring the items within. The brief scent of roses was replaced with the smell of freshly baked muffins as the basket swung gently side to side on the hilt of the boy's blade.

When she explained how her weapon worked as a focusing point Carter nodded, his white hair bouncing. Sugiuran's were thought of a lot like mutated off shoots of Shinigami and he couldn't argue with how they worked so far. They seemed spiritual beings with something called a guardian beast that they drew power from much like his zanpakuto spirit, from there they used the beast like a weapon in a sense. So far he could understand the basics of her power and nodded some more.

Next noticed a huge blast of energy that seemed at first like spiritual pressure but as he focused he could feel it wasn't spiritual pressure at all.... it wasn't even related like a mutated version, it was something else entirely. Before he could think too much on it she grabbed her weapon and focused the energy, the chaotic flow of it seemed to steady and stream line, the energy seemed to condense at hilt of her weapon before she released it outward.

Without a word he followed it at blinding speeds, his hair tossing up in the wind while his left hand gripped his chin in serious thought, his golden eyes taking in every faucet of the energy as it rolled along. He stayed dangerously close to the edge of the energy as it went along, destroying the ground and such as it went before dissipating. “Hmmm.” He said while bending over to examine the ground that had been ravaged by the attack, the ground didn't seemed disheveled and displaced as if it had been torn up, instead a clear gash appeared and the missing earth was missing entirely, not just scattered like after an explosion. It appears to destroy all the way down to an atomic level.

While he was thinking a strange sensation over came him and he looked down, feeling a new weight at his waist. Some how a basket of muffins seemed to have collected themselves on his belt. Blinking he thought for a second, the sensation he had just felt reminded him of a plus. It wasn't super uncommon for plus's to thank him, but usually that was only after he saved them from a hollow and it was usually just a warm sensation, a feeling of a pat on the head or the cheek, but never muffins... not to mention he hadn't saved any spirits from being eaten by hollows in a pretty long time so it was strange.

Nevertheless the muffins were fresh and he could smell the warm butter and melted chocolate wafting up from the basket, Store that feeling, if we cross this spirit again we owe them a thank you. Now though let's enjoy.Nodding to himself he stood up straight and walked back to the Russian Sugiura girl, “That's an impressive attack, I have a few ideas but for now it seems fate has gifted us with a snack to let's enjoy.” He said, sitting down on her right hand side before taking a muffin and chewing it. His right hand would go up with a muffin for the girl while he chewed thoughtfully on his own, thinking of what he knew of Sugius and their ability. They used pisonic energy or thought energy to power their abilities from what he knew and it seemed something he needed to think on while they enjoyed breakfast.

Your ability is pretty strong, even when you don't have your focal point with your weapon. Tell me, why exactly is the focusing point needed when you're powered by pisons? You literally run on thoughts, that seems the most freeing and easiest way for you to over come this lack of control you have without the weapon. Thought based energy seems to allow you the most room, or chance at least of mastering an ability. I don't know, I could be entirely off base but that's my thought so far.” He said with a mouth full of muffin, “Man these are great aren't they!

!!

Releasing her destructive power was already dangerous enough on its own but seeing Carter trying to get close to the edge of the Space Eater that she made certainly surprised her, though being "surprised" is more or less an understatement for her. Honestly? It scared her.

What if he was injured? What if it went out of her control again? Sure, she did it to demonstrate the nature of her powers but never for another person to observe it so closely. Regardless of one's strengths or skills, while Carter appeared unharmed, Verniy would approach him slowly, her expression still remained unchanged but a droplet of tear would be visible at one of her eyes and the tone of her voice was audibly worried.

"Please.. don't do that again.. It's dangerous.."

From that moment, her nose caught a whiff on the smell of.. muffins. The smell alone was enough to capture her attention from what had happened earlier ago, her eyes darting around the area before realizing that there was a basket filled with fragrant muffins - in fact, freshly baked as well. Her detection skills were sub-par and didn't notice whoever that placed the basket near the both of them but still, all she was able to do to bow lightly to thin air as a sign of gratitude.

To Verniy, muffins is considered as a type of premium delicacy to her since the environment she grew up didn't simply allow her to have the free time to enjoy delicacies like these. It was all to dedicate her effort in becoming a soldier, a reliable and powerful one for the Russian Government so that she can set out and fight for her motherland against those that opposes her people. Unlike most children, she didn't grow up with fun and sweets.

When Carter told her to enjoy the snacks they were kindly left with, she did with a little bit of hesitation. Sitting down on a Seiza position and her katana resting above her knees, both of her hands were holding a freshly baked muffin, her eyes were looking down on it with awe and somehow, she couldn't bear to eat it. It was a rare occasion and more importantly, it was one of the few times that she was able to eat with another person next to her.

She was eventually snapped out of it when Carter talked to her about her power, explaining how she should be able to use her thoughts to control it instead of a weapon to direct it.

"I've.. tried using my thoughts.. It doesn't want to listen to me.."

Freeing one of her hands from the muffin and lifted her hand in front of Carter, she would generate very weak Space Eater on top of her palm with small bits of psionic energy but it would audibly crack and snap, sometimes distort due to how unstable it is: showing Carter that even by small amounts, it is still very difficult to keep it stable without her weapon.

Hearing him exclaiming how tasty the muffins were shifted her attention back to the muffins, staring at it for a little while before taking a small nibble out of it.

Fragrant, sweet, chocolatey, a lot of different words flowed into her head after taking a nibble out of it. While she still can't physically express joy over how tasty it is, the aura around her was brimming with pure joy.

"Yes.. Great.."

While still quietly chewing over the small piece of muffin that she nibbled on, a thought came across her head about who this man is. Carter seemed.. knowledgeable but she didn't pry too much into it since he didn't mention anything else but his name. After all, every person has some things that they don't want to talk about, even herself.

"You are also.. very bright.."

If there was one thing she noticed about him, its that he is very.. bright. Not only the smart kind of bright but also.. his presence, blinding almost. She isn't exactly sure what his nature is but his presence gives off something similar to that of a light, like something's shining directly at your eyes but it is a comfortable kind of feeling.
