Re: Voices After the Fall [Byakuya/Kuukaku]
Mon Oct 28, 2024 8:25 pm
Byakuya closed his eyes, listening carefully to her words. He understood her point, yet a lack of influence over the Gotei’s direction didn’t mean Central Forty-six was powerless. Their wealth and vast holdings still granted them enough influence to remain a force in their own right. Ignoring that was foolish.
He was silently thinking. How much could he trust her? How much would he reveal? And if he did, how would he word it so his point was understood? He had been misunderstood in the past, mistakes caused by his silence.
"I did so to bridge a gap. That is all," Byakuya opened his eyes, his gaze stern as it fell upon Kuukaku again. "What would you see done in the coming months?"

Kuukaku didn't need a moment to contemplate. Maybe that was a fault of hers. She was always thinking, and so as the reply came down, she knew well enough what her answer was going to be. Not only that, but there wasn't any need to prune or pretty up her words. HE gave his answer, vague as it was, and she had a response in short order.
"Yea? Hows that gap feelin now?"
She took a few steps closer and leaned forward, gently resting her palm on the edge of Byakuya's desk as she looked him in the eye. Regardless of whether or not he bothered to open them or look her way, she was sure he'd still feel her looking right at him.
"I got some gaps of my own to close. You keep doing you, Byakuboy. I'll be watching."
She stood back up and then turned, to take her leave of the man's office.

Byakuya opened his eyes as she approached, following her with his stern gaze until she leaned over. As expected, an answer as vague as his own. Perhaps he should have used a few more words in his explanation, if you could call it that.
With so much up in the air, however, what could he say that was solidified and not subject to change down the line? Very little. This was the best path.
“Please, do.”
The man turned back to his paperwork, picked up a pen and continued to write...
