If It Looks Like A Monster, Walks Like A Monster... [Catherine, Santa]
"Catherine Reed"
The night hung cold over the vast rural fields, not even a light on in the scarce housing that dotted the place. The only real activity were creatures of the night - and in this unfortunate case, it was between what was undeniably prey and predator. A large shadow skulked at varying speeds, a smaller one not too far, as if the both of them did not wish to burn their energy running.
This quiet charade of stalking and bolting continued between the two shadows, whatever scarce cover being the only means of rest or surprise, again and again a quiet walk would turn into a sudden burst of speed, until quieting once more, this aimless dance only coming to a head once footsteps tread a wheat field...
That shadow thought it was safe, that it had finally lost it's query - so much movement would have had to make them tired, right...?
Quickly, that shadow was proven wrong - a considerable force would knock it off it's feet, a sharp pain hitting it's side...
Beneath her, a hollow wailed for mercy as she stood tall among the crop fields. Didn't look maintained, least she wouldn't have to worry about a jackass running out with his dogs and shotguns when a bigger problem was crying underneath her. She'd already killed two of the targets flocking the place, having been attacking residents and cattle...
..This was the only one who put up the infuriating act of begging and pleading, shrunken on the ground in a pitiful crying mess, again and again of how hungry it was and how it was doing it's best... It was revolting. She hated the ones that talked. Fire burned in her chest as she'd stamp a foot down on one of it's hands flattened on the ground to beg for it's life, a yell raising in her chest,
"WOULD YOU JUST SHUT UP ALREADY?!"
If they just didn't pretend...

Santa had been juggling quite a few things in the world of the living. Attempting to learn about humans. Looking for a suitable place for her own ..ahem...sacntuary project. And naturally, occassionally she'd make friends. Often that was humans or other spirituals. But every now and then, a Hollow would catch her eye.
Shriek had been one of those hollows. Weaker, because of their tendency not to consume humans, Santa had been trying to help them by finding other things for them to eat, these days it was mostly other hollows causing trouble, and as a result they DID seem to be growing some. Their frail little body had at the very least become a bit mnore durable, and she was proud of their progress.
And so.
When she heard the howling shriek from that familiar voice. And Sensed something chasing them through the landscape. It had drawn Santa's attention immediately. Catherine would feel a sudden spike in spiritual pressure close to her own as the arrancar walked out of a descorrer that peeled open behind her. Not just from her, but EVERY inch of space around Catherine would suddenly be exhoing the same spiritual pressure, as if in that moment Catherine was surrounded.
"Get away from her. Now."
