Sunshine's The Worst Medicine [Komugi, Igen]
Thu Oct 03, 2024 7:18 pm
Komugi Yadou
Devastation, that was likely what would describe how she felt. Komugi wasn't going to pretend she felt any sensation of 'home' within the Seireitei, at least without her family here with her.
But the people here... The many faces and friendships she had, even looking upon the expanse behind white walls... She couldn't help but feel her heart sink. Was this really as well as they managed to defend the place? She almost dreaded hearing the inevitable casualty report; the only thing keeping her from working was the fact she'd probably be picked up and dragged off to bed again, at least up on the roof she had some time to contemplate... Even as the sun began baring down on her.
Slowly lying back, she'd look at those bright skies, squinting her eyes as she was poorly adapted to looking plainly at the daytime sky. Exhausted, but unwilling to sleep - after a few rounds of healing she was at least nimble enough to crawl out her window and get up here. She couldn't sleep, not without the realizing someone she once idolized as a hero, had been one of the orchestrators of the deaths of thousands haunting her mind.
She didn't know what to do, all she could think of was to give herself some punishment by resting in the unfiltered sun, for her own personal failure.. She couldn't even kill an invader, and hurt a comrade by mistake in the process of helping him. She had to do better, but right now she just wanted to feel as weak as the many who died, in their memory.

"Doesn't sunlight bother you?" Igen's surprised voice would cut through Komugi's melancholy as he tilted his head from his spot on the roof with her. His attention shifting along her frame. Yea, he'd certainly heard about her situation. Truth be told, he didn't expect it'd be long before hed be assigned to her. But all the same, he took a moment to recognize that she was in a bit of a state. And so, briefly dropping that professional tone, he crouched down to one knee and set down beside her.
"Wanna head back in the shadeYadou?" He asked with a nervous smile and a light chuckle. ONe that would let her hear the exhaustion in his voice. To let her know.....he didn't know. That maybe she wasn't suffering alone. Perhaps the solidarity would ease something. Still, he waited for her to respond. Whilst also....eyeing those injuries. Yea... she'd have been on the low priority list due to being not in life threatening condition. But well, thats why he was here. Because she was needed.

Her squinted eyes floated to the only mote of darkness shielding her from the sun's accursed glare, her brow scrunched up as her dazed state made sense of what her eyes caught,
"You're not Taro..." Her tone was a bit mopey, rasped from thirst as her small form would roll back into the light of the sun, "..Course not, Taro's not even here... He's stuck like everybody else in the World of the Living..."
She sniffed gently, her eyes burning with misery, "I don't wanna move, Gyakusuma-san... Not til my pain's even a bit measurable to everyone who's gone... Everyone that couldn't be saved.."

Igen blinked a few times as he looked down at his friend as she looked practically half-baked. Well with this much sun he wasn’t surprised she was a miserable mess. Even more, the drudging murmur from his friend only made him feel worse. ”Komugi, we need t-“ he started, only for Koozoku to poke her head out of the window and peer up at the pair.
”The fuckre you doing up there? Komugi you need to be healed. Get your thicc ass off the damn roof and get down here so we can patch you up we got work to do. Igen get her down here.” She was less than happy, a stark contrast to the nurses uniform she had on as she dipped back inside and started tidying up the bed so they could properly treat the feline.
Igen sighed and gave Komugi a sheepish smile. ”Lets uh at least get inside. You need help getting down?” He offered his hand to the officer.

Her face scrunched with Ko's loud call for her to get back down, her claws in the grooves of the roof. Killer headache, she realized, sniffling at Igen's request.
"..The Eighth's barracks.." Her little voice rasped, "..Taro liked them a lot... How am I supposed to explain to em they're all messed up when he gets back..?"
Tears started beading in her squinted gaze, brows turned up to squeeze against each other in aching sadness, "He'll be crushed... He might just give up on his dream to be an architect some day... He wanted to help build our new home in the Seireitei when we could afford it..."
She couldn't hold it back anymore, "It's not fair...! It's not fair...! Why did this have to happen again..?!"
Words blubbered and degraded into pure sobbings, weakly wailing as the embarrassment of crying in front of someone else was greatly outweighed by the overwhelming sensation of the only betterment being utterly knocked out once again.

Igen blinked a few times and tilted his head. Surprised for a moment at the comment, but further explanation soon clarified what it was that was troubling Komugi. Ahh.....there was more than just physical injury at work here. He winced internally. He might have to bar Komugi from work depending on how deep this was. But he pushed that thought from his head. No need to jump to conclusions. She was breaking down as she was injured, that was understandable.
Still, he slid forward and bery gently set his hand over her shoulder, a very light easing would flow through her as he eased her pain some, a light kaido spell aimed to help lessen the pain a bit. "Komugi, I think...that once the Sawachika get to work rebuilding this place. It's gonna be so big and amazing, that Taro's gonna be even MORE hyped about becoming an architect. You may not know them. but when they get to rebuilding something, they make sure its even bigger and better than ever." He noted with a very gentle smile.
And as she broke down and began to sob. He gently scooped her up from the roof and very, so very carefully, turned her to look at him. "The buildings are just wood and stone. More than that... we've lost a lot of the people that make up the gotei. But there are still plenty more of us still around." He reached up and gently set his hand atop Komugi's head. Not petting her, but applying a gesture of comfort like he might to anyone. "Let's get you out of this damn sun. Do you think you can get back inside? I can help you if you need." He offered in a gentle voice, not rushing her, not pushing her. Just seeing how she was feeling, and if he needed to still stay up her a bit longer. though if possible he wanted to get her out of the sun. That was only going to make her state worse.

Komugi Yadou
Ugh, she was crying like a stupid baby kit, but she just couldn't stop once the first tear had slipped free. Old frustrations and memories bubbled to the surface alongside new wounds and worries - they'd just suffered another major attack and they couldn't prevent the worst of it, they'd failed to keep the Seireitei safe. Once again after what felt so long, she was in doubt of if this was really the place her family should be. Sure the outer districts weren't at all safe or prosperous to live in, but at least they were far out of the way of these deadly invasions...
In a more reasonable mood, she would've reaffirmed herself, but right now she was still suffering and exhausted - she couldn't help but think and feel more unreasonably; about half her body was burnt and she was still healing. She couldn't help but cast some doubt on her decision to be so far from them for so long if the place of safety she's worked so hard and saved up so much for would just... Crumble!
Her tears only wavered a little bit when Igen tried to cheer her up with good prospects on everything being build back better than ever, her messy droopy face looking at him through barely opened eyes and flowing tears wetting her face and blurring her vision. By now, Nara-chan would've started pinching her cheeks to distract her from the tears, or Oji-san would've given her a friendly ruffling of her hair, or even one of her cousins would've thrown her over or onto their shoulders and parade her around to cheer her up... But she was surprised to feel herself suddenly be picked up, initially frightened by the sensation of falling by quickly grabbing onto the nearest thing - Igen himself that is - thankfully realizing before she put claws in him.
It was enough to distract her from crying, least for a moment, sniffling as her friend sought to comfort her about the situation... He was right... Even if they couldn't bring anyone who had died back, at least they could rebuild.. The Seireitei could be made even better than before... She was just too sad, pained, and tired right now to consider the bigger picture like she normally would.
"N..No.." Her miserable voice bumbled out, "..If I tried i'd probably fall n' break something... Hah..."
With a brief swallow, she'd force some kind of smile, "..Thanks Igen."

He frankly didn't know what was about to happen, but he was willing to risk it for the biscuit. And thankfully, once Komugi took just a brief moment to realize what was happening, she settled and seemed to relax at least a little, sighing softly as he gently patted her back and nodded. A light chuckle escaping him at her concession. "That's alright. Cmon, lets get you down." He assured her, carrying her over to the edge and then slipping down, a subtle shunpo used to get her down to the window, and then carefully, handing her over to Koozoku. The feline sighed a little, but gently scooped Komugi inside and laid her back down, Igen following in after her as he then took a moment to get her back in her bed and tucked in.
"Alright, wer'e inside and out of the sun. How're you feeling physically? I see they've been patching you up. I'm not exactly under orders, but I'm trying to make my rounds and ensure none of the officers are trying to work while injured. We need our upper seats ready and capable while all of this is going on. Last thing we need is people hopping back into duty too soon and getting even more hurt." He sighed and chuckled, shaking his head. "You wouldnt believe some of the stuff people were trying to just work through. I had to pull an actual chunk of hollow tooth from a Sixth seat." He confided in her, hopefully adding a little context and levity to the situation. Help get her mind off the gunk that had her on that roof.

Still sniffling and sopping, her face pressed against Igen's chest as he got the two of them down from the roof, a miserable expression only slightly perked up by being in the shade of the room. Without the sunlight baring down on her, she was definitely starting to look more awake - at least for someone severely past their typical bedtime. A little whimper preceded her answer to this question, having heard her comrade's concern for others; it made a weary smile grow on her tearful face - that even in this terrible circumstance, Igendai was still looking out for everyone.
"My insides hurt," She'd weakly huff, "And my skin kinda still feels like it's boiling... I just feel real weak overall," Tears welled in her eyes when her thoughts drew unto all the people suffering from this attack, "..It's not like i'm even the worst, I shouldn't be acting like i've got it so bad when everyone's doing way worse than I am..."
Her clawed fingers dug into the sheets as her face scrunched, brief sniffs to draw up her dripping noise, "...Left and right, everyone's lost somebody - I got lucky this time. I don't have to go through that... But that doesn't feel fair. It's not fair, Igendai-san..!"
She couldn't help but falter into another slew of tears, "A buncha people's families are broken now and we could hardly do much against it..! It's the stupid demons all over again! Why couldn't we be ready?!"

Igen paused for a moment as Komugi rested her face against his chest and sniffled. He gently let his hand brush along her back and shoulder, listening as Komugi gave an update on how she was feeling. Yea she wasn't all that great, but he smiled as he gently looked her over. Curious to see if he could get to work on anything outstanding. "Well. Your insides I can fix up if you wanna lay down and let me heal you. I don't however, think its healthy to focus too much on how much worse other people are. We could certainly say 'hey why are we fixing up the gotei if the rukongai got hit so much harder;? But we Can't help others until we help ourselves. If I was missing an arm, I couldnt go trying to heal someone missing their lungs until I had my Arm fixed." Maybe it was a dumb example, but yea.
He smiled sheepishly and ...thought about his own situation. He himself probably needed some rest. He;'d been going pretty nonstop since the incident checking on the officers. But he didn't bring that up for now. "So. Komugi. As An officer, people, injured or otherwise, are going to look to you for guidance. So we're going to get you patched up. And then, you can help everyone else get better." He noted with a gentle nod of his head as he settled on her hospital bed. He wasn't going to just peel her off, especially in her current state. But still, he'd give a little nod, so that whenever she was ready, she could uh.... pause her chest huffing and lay down so he could fix her up.
