Becoming a Character... [Upgrade]

Mirai was born into nobility during her time as a human. When she married, she quickly died from a mysterious illness that took her very suddenly. She ended up lost in the Rukongai, her mannerisms as a "high class" lady getting her into quite a bit of trouble with normal people. Here, she was nothing and that was quickly made clear when a mid-level mob boss, named Goro Sato, cut off her path to the Gotei and forced her to work under his thumb. Mirai was trained in the ways of assassination. She learned how to blend in and strike without anyone noticing. This stopped on her final mission when she refused to murder a very pregnant woman, named Kasumi, who was trying to flee Goro’s unwanted claim on her to be with the man she loved. Faking Kasumi’s death, Mirai returned with a job “well done.”

It wasn’t long later that Mirai’s lie was revealed when Kasumi was seen in another district. Instead of calling her out or punishing her, like Goro normally would have, he sent Mirai on another mission. This time, it was to attack a man named Yuuto that was traveling without permission in Goro’s territory. As Mirai attempted to complete her mission, Yuuto proved too strong, too trained for her skill level, and she was soundly defeated. Instead of being killed, Yuuto drew out her confession and Mirai quickly squealed on Goro, especially when Yuuto made it clear that sending someone of her level after him was a trick to have Yuuto kill her, not the other way around. With Yuuto’s help, the Gotei raided Goro and all of his properties, freeing prisoners, arresting most members, and killing Goro himself.

Though she turned in a rather large mob, Mirai was not free. The Gotei wanted her arrested, but Yuuto defended her and got her an offer to join the Gotei, after passing the required classes. Mirai had no intention of ignoring the offer because the Gotei had once been in her sights years ago. It was only Goro that kept her from it. Though Mirai’s time at the academy was uneventful, she proved herself a strong asset in hand-to-hand combat. She excelled in speed techniques and made a name for herself as an elite student. Socially, Mirai found herself on the outside of most circles. Her background was spread throughout the school, and everyone knew about her dealings with criminals, so she had a hard time fitting in. Luckily for her, this wasn’t new. She focused on her classes and graduated near the top.

It came by no surprise to anyone that Mirai immediately joined the Covert Ops Division of the Gotei United. Though she proved extremely skilled, and definitely capable of higher ranks, Mirai’s difficulty socializing and handling too much responsibility prevented her from applying. She instead focused on the freedom she felt in having what felt like a normal job, her own place, and just being her own person. She took a few years to learn new skills, such as skating or jewelry making. She discovered old forms of media, specifically anime and manga. She fell in love with old fashioned stories like Inuyasha, Fruit’s Basket, Fairy Tail, Naruto, and anything created by a man named Hayao Miyazaki. Since much of this was lost, she even took the time to dig into old archives to finish these stories.

After a few years of just being herself, Mirai decided it was time to stop resting and began intense training to hone her skills. She trained with members of her Division, becoming especially close to Shuten Suika. After convincing the woman to spar with her a few times, they became good friends and sparing partners. They advanced their skills by challenging each other to games of speed and accuracy. Mirai also took the time to train with her best friend, Yuuto. They always kept in contact, and he checked on her frequently. Any time his job would allow, Yuuto took the time to get Mirai up to a level where she could even help him if he needed it. Mirai now credits the amount of time she spent with Shuten and Yuuto with how strong of a Shinigami she currently is, and for her less fragile self-esteem.
