Stolen Night [Kaede, Sora]

The long wait wasn't the best news...but it would all be worth it for that milkshake! So, despite the momentary sad look in her eyes, Kaede quickly turned from sad to excited, giving a firm couple nods. She distracted herself from the long wait by watching him play the game, sliding her shoes off and curling up to get more comfortable, resting her chin against the top of her pack.

Her eyes narrowed and her cheeks puffed in a pout as Sora told her to check herself over in the bathroom and take a shower. She had half a mind to argue, but, she knew that he wouldn't budge. So, grumbling to herself, she rummaged through her backpack, pulling out a spare change of clothes, wrapped them up in a ball, set her backpack in the corner of the couch, before walking to the shower.

She shut the door, locked it, undressed, grabbed a towel from the bathroom closet, got ready, and stepped into the shower. The water, no matter if it was hot or cold, causes her bruises to sting. She looked at herself with a melancholic expression as a hand delicately tracing around the damaged area. She had a makeup kit in her pack, but, with how much use it'd seen, she doubted it could cover all this up.

Carefully, she washed herself off, wincing and stopping at points from touching the tender skin. Eventually, she got out, dried herself off, got dressed, then stepped back out with her other set of clothes in tow. Quietly, she went to sit back down, grabbing her backpack and shoving her other change of clothes into it, before wrapping her arms around it and going back to watching him play.

"...Do you have anything we could play together? There an online mode for this?"

She left… her backpack… Sora paused his game and began searching through it like a nosy bastard with no sense of privacy. He normally had more respect than this, but she was taking his bed, using his money, using his soaps… He could figure out something more about this chick by being a complete asshole… Yeah, that wasn’t why. He was extremely curious why she clung to it so hard.

Sora took note of the things she had. It wasn’t much. He was curious whether or not she was truly some homeless girl, especially with this “Ehefra” that kept being mentioned, but apparently she was. Some of this clearly did not belong to her.

‘Little thief…’ Sora thought, sighing as he put it all back and set it where it was before. He returned to his video game. A few moments later, she came out and stuffed her dirty clothes into it. He said nothing about that, even though he could remind her to just put it in the dirty clothes basket. Pausing his game again, he took a moment to think. “Voidbreaker has split screen…” he said and got up. He took a moment to change the game and handed her a second controller.

“Are you okay? No issues?”

Upon hearing that the game she had played the last time she was there had a split-screen mode, Kaede instantly perked up. As Sora came back with the second controller, she was already reaching out to grab it, whispering "Gimme, gimme, gimme!" as he handed it to her. A wide smile replaced the mostly neutral expression she had before, and she swayed lightly from side to side as she waited for him to set things up.

The smile faltered as he asked about her, and a hand instinctively went to her stomach, her fingers touching ever so gently to not agitate her injury. She shook her head, lowering her gaze to the backpack in her lap as she sighed softly.

"I'm okay. Just...Just stings a lot. Need to wait it out. I have a makeup kit to cover it up, but...not enough to cover all this."

Sora noted the mention of her makeup kit. It was really used up, so maybe he’d grab her another like it. He knew a couple of spots girls liked hanging out at, so he could take her there later. He stood up and walked to the counter, grabbing a bottle of pills, and tossing them her way, aiming to land them next to her on the couch. “Only take two. Just pain meds,” Sora said and then sat back down, starting up the game for both of them. He used those meds after intense training sessions, or when something else crazy happened… "Ready?" he asked, the game ready to go.

As he tossed a bottle to her, even though it was meant to land on the couch, Kaede reached out to grab them anyway, thinking that he had just missed his throw. Upon catching them, she examined them closely. They really were just pain pills. She looked at him for a moment, before slowly unscrewing the top and taking two out, reaching for what was left of her bottle of water and using it to wash the pills down. She didn't expect them to take effect for a while, so, she tried to be careful as she sat up a bit straighter, setting her backpack to her left.

Nodding, Kaede picked the controller back up, ready to go. Maybe she'd be able to get further than she had last time, now that they were playing together. Plus, getting more chances to play a fun game would always be appreciated. Even with the sounds of the game, it was...nice to just relax and have quiet fun like this.

Sora’s mind did a few calculations when he watched her examine them. That bothered him. His left eye twitched, but he kept the rest of his expression hard. He was not getting into anything now. She would probably run away and end up in the gutter somewhere. Instead, he sat down and continued playing the game.

Sora forgot they had ordered food because he was distracted by the game. When the bell rang, he paused and went to the door. When he opened it, he saw a guy standing there with their food and covered in… in their fucking milkshakes. “Hey, I’m sorry. Had an accident on the way here, as you can see.” “Shit happens.” “Just dock my tip. I'm sorry, man…” “No, just be careful. Thanks for delivering it anyway.”

Sora closed the door and set their food on the counter. He looked in the fridge. He had milk, but no ice cream. “I’ll be back,” he said and rushed out of the apartment without another word. There was a small store he could pick up some ice cream from and chocolate syrup. He could grab everything they needed there.

Both of them welcomed the distraction of the video game, allowing for time to pass quickly as they waited for their food. Sora may have forgotten, but Kaede certainly didn't. She was too excited. Not as much for the food, but for the milkshake! Chocolate chip cookie dough...she was beaming just at the thought of it. Eventually, the sound of the bell snapped her out of the funk, and as Sora paused the game, Kaede was quick to turn and watch him go to the door.

That smile was quick to fade as she looked to the door, seeing the delivery guy there...covered in dairy. She slowly slid down the couch, very visibly upset at how the situation turned out. The conversation between Sora and the delivery guy got tuned out as she sat there, hugging her backpack. She knew that it was too good to be true.

Even though she was upset, she was still hungry, evidenced by the stomach growling as Sora walked by with their food. Just as she was about to stand up and get it, he suddenly rushed out of the apartment, leaving Kaede confused and alone. Deciding to wait until he got back, she rummaged through her backpack, pulling out a GPU, as well as one of the tension wrenches, before starting to fuss with it. She needed to get a job soon, so she could get a laptop and figure out what else she could use it for, besides just for computers.

It only took about ten minutes and Sora returned with two pints of ice cream, chocolate, and fresh milk, even though he had originally checked that he had some. He pulled out the old jug, popped the top, and smelled. He visibly cringed. He really needed to learn to just eat at home. Fast food and take out all the time was probably not very good for him. Throwing the old jug out, he pulled a blender down from the top shelf and plugged it in so he could make these things himself.

One of the pints of ice cream was chocolate chip cookie dough, the other was M&M. Sora quickly made a concoction of milk, cookie dough ice cream, and some chocolate syrup, and let the blender do its thing. After a minute, he poured a creamy drink into a rather large cup and set it on the counter. He took a couple of minutes to do the same with his M&M choice and made himself a nice large milkshake as well. Noticing she had not eaten, he grabbed the bags and brought them over to the couch before grabbing their milkshakes.

“Here,” Sora said as he handed her milkshake over. He then divided the bags, happy that the store separated their meals perfectly, and then began to eat. Chomping down on his burger, he grabbed the remote and turned the TV to one of the video streaming services, picked an action superhero movi-... Spiderman. She insisted on Spiderman the moment the thing showed up on screen. So, Sora turned on Spiderman and began settling in for the night, enjoying his food.

Kaede's lips parted as she watched Sora come back in with ice cream, chocolate, and the milk. Despite the excitement, she waited as patiently as she could while he went through the process. As he finally finished, grabbed their bags, and went back over to the couch, a small smile came to Kaede's face as she took her milkshake and food, taking a long sip of her shake.

The moment he started going through superhero movies, however, Kaede insisted on Spiderman. Despite her love for the boy scout that was Superman, the sarcastic quips of Queens' wall-crawler won her heart in a different way. So, on the other side of the couch, she got comfortable with her food and shake. But, as the movie progressed, Kaede started to zone out.

This was too good to be true. People weren't this nice to her, not without wanting something. Even Isamu wanted something from her despite how nice he'd been at points. Even worse...Isamu had disappeared. All of these nice things that Sora had done for her...he was going to disappear too, wasn't he? Or, worse, he'd finally start demanding something from her as recompense for all the things he'd done for her.

She glanced over at him for a second, then at her food and milkshake. She needed to run. She needed to wait until he went to another room, or if he fell asleep on the couch or something...

Sora watched Spiderman many times. He liked superhero movies, so he saw most of the MCU remakes. He preferred the originals, feeling RDJ’s Iron Man was masterful, but the remakes were good. However, because he had seen the movies time and time again, once his food settled and most of it was over, Sora ended up laying his head back on the couch. It wasn’t the most comfortable position, but it was enough, and he didn’t want to disturb Kaede’s movie. Soon, Sora fell asleep.
