A smile crossed Sabriel’s features as Calypso explained her reasons for the choice of food. It was rather sweet and Arrancar or not, the dark haired woman still had an appreciation for such things. There were times where Sabriel pondered about her own family or more accurately, who they had been. Naturally, she had forgotten about them, as all Hollow did but she could not help but muse about them from time to time. They might have been in Hueco Mundo too for all she knew. Still, she had Lirael now, who was as close to a family as she could have asked for. From rivals to lovers, as it so often was in the wilds.

Calypso’s question to her was unexpected and Sabriel raised an eyebrow for a moment, pondering over how best to answer it although when she did, another smile albeit a wry one etched onto her face. “Not like chicken. I always found that it depended on two things. The strength and personality of the soul. A more innocent and naive soul always tasted rather sweet, like a dessert, while a hardened individual tasted more like meat. A well trained soul, someone who was skilled when it came to manipulating their spiritual power were always the most satisfying and filling though.” After pausing for a moment, she added. “The worst tasting souls are those of the weak minded, who are simply bland.”

Another laugh escaped her then and she asked in return. “Why so curious?”

"Hmm. Ulv's soul would have been enough to ruin a person's pallete then. Either by sheer divinity of taste, or being so spicy it burned you alive" Calypso muttered, shrugging gently.

"Curiosity, mostly. I can't eat souls, and Hvit never has on account of being an Inner Arrancar. So I thought I'd ask you, since you are good for conversation and all. Expanding one's knowledge infinitely is always good"

Half expecting Calypso to react negatively to her previous answer, Sabriel was slightly surprised at just how casual the redheaded woman was regarding it. She supposed she should not have been though as Calypso seemed to be able to shrug off pretty much anything. There was a uniqueness to the young woman and it certainly caused her to stand out compared to other humans that the Arrancar had spoken too. It was nice though to be able to speak without having to consider her words too much though and the dark haired woman seemed to be relaxing more and more over time.

“I am sure that anyone who tried devouring her soul would have been in for an unpleasant experience.” She replied with a smile. “I have found that the devouring of souls is not as enjoyable as it once was. In order to grow, we eventually come to feast on our fellows rather than humans and they certainly do not taste as nice as human souls. If anything, I much prefer human food these days and try to indulge whenever I can.”

After a brief pause, she asked in return. “I have heard of these individuals who possess inner Hollows but an inner Arrancar is new to me. How did that come to pass?”

"Ha! Yea, I guess the fact that she could kick Godzilla's head off would also be a thing to make eating her soul difficult. She actually did that once, to a degree. Some giant flying whale thing appeared near Karakura, and after a short fight with her and some others, Ulv kicked it into the ground" Calypso would exclaim, her voice enthused to be chunnering about her idol.

Food came, and Calypso would take up the fork to plough her way through it, though Sabriel's question made her pause for a moment.

"Hmm. It's complex. But, from what Hvit told me, it seems that when a Vizard gets exceptionally powerful, their Inner Hollow undergoes a transformation from the weight of the energy within the Vizard's soul. Thus, Inner Arrancar"

The smell of the shark was certainly new for the Arrancar but after noting just how quickly Calypso tucked into it, Sabriel shrugged lightly and started to eat her own portion. The taste hit the back of her throat and she almost coughed but just about managed to control herself. It was exotic to say the least and the first few mouthfuls were rather unpleasant but once she got used to the taste, it was not so bad and she began to eat with more enthusiasm. An acquired taste for sure but one she came to appreciate.

“Makes sense.” She replied to Calypso’s explanation regarding Hvit’s inner Arrancar. “Just to survive the Hollowification process takes a great amount of inner strength or that is what I have heard. I can only imagine how much more difficult maintaining control is with an Arrancar rather than a Hollow inside her. She must be made of some strong stuff.” That seemed to be a recurring theme but certainly one that Sabriel could appreciate.

Recalling how eager the redhead was when speaking about Ulv, the curious Arrancar would track back to Calypso’s previous point. “Is there anything that Ulv cannot do?” She asked, encouraging her new friend to continue with her hero worship if she wanted to.

"When you get to that point, you are rarely keeping control of them anymore. The three options is that you develop a close relationship, you develop a deal that you both agree to, or one of you is dead. But even among Vizards, Ulv had a tight bond with her Hollow. There was barely a line where one started and the other began. She had perpetual golden eyes and hollow reiatsu because of that" Calypso would nom on her shark, and then...get really sad.

Leaning back on her chair, she'd exhale and stare at the roof.

"Understand people. Ulv wanted to help everyone. Or, at least, make sure that everyone who was in a bad way was there because they wanted to be there. But the problem there is that when you extend a hand to someone, others will dislike it. She emphasized and emphasized that she was on nobody's side, but other people were on their side. And so they left her. And then she disappeared, into somewhere only Hvit knows. We managed to wear down the greatest beacon of hope and support by sticking to our own hatreds and never budging for a moment...."

Calypso would close her eyes and exhale, now in a morose mood.

Sabriel mused to herself internally for some time, taking a few more bites of the shark as she did so. The Arrancar was not awfully surprised to hear that Ulv had been abandoned by her followers. Humans were a fickle bunch and as soon as things turned unpleasant or they heard something they did not wish to, they would turn tail and run. It was unfortunate as Ulv seemed to be on the right lines and had a view on life that Sabriel herself could appreciate. A depressing end to Ulv’s story for sure and the dark haired woman briefly frowned as she pondered further.

“It is a tragedy to hear that she was abandoned in the end and that her message was so ignorantly ignored. There would be far less chaos in this world if her philosophies had been taken to heart instead of shunned at the first sign of trouble.” Sabriel eventually replied, her expression neutral. Chaos was a natural part of life for a Hollow and the Arrancar had certainly caused her fair share in the past but it was not something that she constantly pursued. Those days were well and truly over now that she had beings of her own to defend.

Noticing Calypso’s lack of enthusiasm all of a sudden, the Arrancar would add. “Forgive me for dragging up such an unpleasant topic. It was not my intention to upset you.”

"Bah, no" Calypso would state, flourishing her fork. It glinted in the light, revealing a jade lining to it that ran in seems through the fork. "Shit has happened, and trying to ignore it or pretend it never happened will ensure it happens again" Calypso exclaimed, shaking her head and stabbing some more Shark.

"Though, I would say there would be a lot more chaos in the world" Calypso would counter, eating her rotten food. "But it would be a respectable Chaos, a Chaos that people can embrace. A Chaos that is balanced perfectly, and exists as a natural state of things, rather than an abhorrence. Imagine if there were many many more Hollows, but Hollows facilitated the flow of souls from one realm to the next"

It was an intriguing theory and Sabriel again chose that moment to take a few more bites of the shark, starting to get to terms with the exotic taste. It was not quite so pungent once one became used to it and the Arrancar was beginning to see the appeal although it would probably never become her favourite snack. Those of Northern Europe certainly had a unique sense of taste although considering the climate, perhaps that was not entirely unexpected. Her mind briefly entertained the thought of Hollows becoming the primary solution to transferring souls from realm to realm and it was quite fascinating.

“A world where the Hollow takes on the role of the shepherd, leading the dead to their next port of call. It is most certainly a unique take on what the world could be and I confess that I would be fascinated to encounter such a place. Where chaos is the norm rather than discord and something that the humans embrace. It would certainly paint the world in a far different light.” Sabriel mused to herself, half repeating what Calypso said. “Would a world such as that be better than the one we find ourselves in now? Perhaps it would.”

The state of it now was certainly not one to be proud of.

Calypso would finish her shark, and then lean the chair back a little, giving Sabriel a grin.

"So, how do Arrancar have sex?"
