Law

Artist: One Piece OST - Song: Law's theme - Word Count: 342

Africa wasn't a place Law would normally envision himself actively traveling to, but lately he hadn't felt much of the excitement that he craved. Naturally, as he tended to do in any lull, he planned on putting out feelers to the various organizations or factions who were likely to have something interesting for him to do. One of the few he hadn't made direct contact with in the past though, was Vastime. When he realized this he made up his mind, he'd scope out what this place was about, and hopefully find some action along the way.

He'd decided to take a ship, as he generally flew anywhere he had an interest in visiting, and he was tired of the monotony. He wanted to experience something new. Turned out to be a pretty shit idea, boats are slow as fuck. By the time he finally arrived in Africa Law was itching to get moving. He wasted no time in reaching out to Vastime, and attempted to schedule a meeting. Whoever he talked to was a moron, and he wasn't too keen on being sent on a wild goose chase. Having come to the conclusion that if he wanted to get anything done he'd have to set it up himself, he began searching for someone who looked like they knew what was going on.

After a short time he came across a group of individuals who looked like they had at least some deal of common sense, and they were also clad in a more militaristic fashion. They seemed to be at least higher in the chain of command than the person he'd spoken to originally. He approached them with little consideration as to whether or not they were currently busy, and sought out answers.

"You guys could use someone who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty, yeah? Well point me in the right direction, I wanna talk to someone who can set me up with a mission. No intention of joining on officially, I just have some time on my hands."

It wasn't uncommon in Vastime for mercenaries to folk to the nation in seeking of employment, with the turning tide of the world it was almost needed. Soldiers of fortune could find themselves making pretty pennies in Vastime with their bounty system or the spoils system which enabled soldiers and mercs alike to make money off the money or gear acquired from operations. In a line where one neck was constantly on the line it was a nice way to make some cash while supporting the soldier and increasing the chance for a comfy retirement.

But there was a way to go about that, and approaching these officers was not one.

The soldiers where enraptured in a conversation which seemed importanted, yet as Law approached and talked the high ranking officers silenced themselves looking at him with a mixture of puzzlement and indifference. But as one officer began to speak, a tall man who body seemed to quake with power, another raised their hand as if to silence him. The much shorter man seemed to hold everyone quiet with a singular raised gloved hand. Despite being peers in rank it was clear this lean man held the respect and focus of the group.

He'd simply motion for them to keep walking as he turned to look at Law, the uniform he wore was that of Vastime. The rank on his shoulders was that of a Colonel and the unit insignia was the emblem of a flaming sword thrusting downwards into a ground shattering it. It was the crest of one of the most prestigious units within Vastime, and the man standing before Law was the leader of said unit.

Piercing heterochromatic eyes would stare at the man, on his side was what looked to be a revolver and saber, quietly as if judging him. No. Examining him, from the way he spoke down to the demeanor in which he walked. It was almost invasive. One chocolate color'd eye and a icey blue eye would focus on his own before speaking, an easy drawl to his voice.

"I am Atlas D'al Decter, Colonel of the Royal Dragoons and 1st Helltrooper Regiments. I believe I may be able to offer you some work; I'm aware of you, Law. Your work is somewhat reknown in the circles I must navigate it is a pleasure to finally meet you."

A gloved hand would extend it's self.

The warhound had caught the scent of a new asset.

Law

Artist: One Piece OST - Song: Law's theme - Word Count: 342

Law looked on at the man as he introduced himself, a bit lengthily, to say the least. He didn't generally take a liking to people who were too wordy, as saying things in more words than was necessary simply wasted time. There were exceptions to this however, as he did put up with the likes of Urahara. The other man also seemed to be very well put together, and while he could have expressed himself more quickly, he did at least get right to the point, not wasting words on complete irrelevancies. Either way, when it came down to it, how much he liked this man wasn't really a factor. He was here to do away with this endless boredom. With that being the case, he made a decision when the other man offered his hand to shake. He would shake it. Generally Law wasn't interested in etiquette at all, and those who knew him would be shocked that he had even considered this course of action, let alone engaged in it. He tended to be very abrasive, but he wasn't stupid, far from it. He understood when being polite would lead him to more adventure, success, and excitement than being a dickhead, and usually took these opportunities to show off the fact that he could.

Law grasped the other man's hand firmly and vigorously shook it for a moment before he began to speak.

"Well, that's convenient. It doesn't hurt to have the people I'm trying to get a job with know me, that's for sure. I'm curious as to which avenues you've come to know of my actions through, but I'm not complaining. Now, you said you had a job for me?"

Pleased with this demonstration of his ability to act in a way that suited the situation Law let a small smirk spread across his face.

"How do you feel about the Caribbean?"

The soft voice of Atlas seemed to hold a small slyness to it all, releasing the hand of the mercenary swordsman. If what he heard was true if used correctly this man could prove to be a constant source of progressive for their nation. But if left unchecked this young man could prove a thorn in their side. The latter was something to be avoided, least they wanted a problem.

But none the less he would turn around, the smooth transition for him to follow was evident as they began to walk. Atlas wasn't one to waste time nor words when it came to matters of pressing importance. But for this young man it might be best to provide some context.

"Vastime as you know has it's fingers in many places, but we lack any actual foothold in the Americas." The short explanation would serve to push the dialouge to business now. Gloved hands would rest behind his own back as they walked towards a large complex, one which laid at the end of their road.

"The short story is Vastime wants a foothold there, and we want to make an example of our power. With the strife in the world and the dying embers of the Monsuta it's best to start capitalizing on it. In short; we want to launch an operation in the Caribbean to root out and destroy the budding of Shadowfall activity there."

The man's heterochromatic eyes would fall onto Law, the soft glow of his blue one focused intently on him. The thin slash on his lips could barely be called a smile.

"But we are not seeking to have holdings there. If you wish to be employed by us; simply go there and destroy these cells. Your reward will be the islands, with Vastime sanctioning these actions so long as you don't become... tyrannical. We will provide a small team to assist you and resources if you need them; and of course we expect some kickback in establishing some..."

The man's voice faded off for a moment before finding the right words.

"... establish some areas for future operations against SF."

Thus the terms of their contract was laid out, eliminate the influence they had with some minor help from Vastime and he could keep the lands so long as he allowed some Vastimian influence and didn't do anything which would tarnish their reputation.

"Your thoughts, mercenary?"

Law

Artist: One Piece OST - Song: Law's theme - Word Count: 342

Law walked alongside Atlas as the other man started moving. He kept his hands in his pockets, leaving only his thumbs showing, but he held himself perfectly upright. As Atlas spoke he could tell that they were skipping right to the good part.
This was the kind of thing Law liked to see. As soon as formalities were out of the way they went straight to business. He could appreciate that, and although most people would prefer to ease in to more significant conversations with a lot of verbose babbling, Law was not most people. He saw no point in easing into anything, that just wasn't his style. Before long he'd listened to everything Atlas had to say, and he was certainly interested, especially considering the reward. In fact, Law had already had an interest in the Bahama's, and so there wasn't much of a decision to be made. Basically from the first moment he was sold on the plan, providing he had the ability to direct his teams and his own actions on the ground. He didn't need complete control over every action they took, but he did need to know that his overall plan would be followed. That they would go on the offensive when and where he asked them to. If he couldn't be assured of that then he would be better off attempting to complete the mission solo. Too many unpredictable variables would just make things more difficult.

The final clause was also a simple matter. Law had no love for Shadow Fall, he wouldn't mind taking them down a peg or two some time, just so long as he was sure he could remain anonymous. He was arrogant, but he was no fool. At this point in time to declare himself an enemy of Shadow Fall to their faces would be nothing less than idiocy. Acting in the shadows though? That was completely doable.

"I accept, with one condition. I will plan the assault, present it for approval, and then carry it out. If I'm going to have men working under me I need to be sure we're on the same page, or I'm better off going solo. I'm sure your men are all capable, but experience has taught me that even the most well meaning and valiant individual can completely ruin a covert operation. Is that acceptable to you as well?"

"I expect nothing less."

That was his confirmation of his request, the thin slash of his lips something vicious. Perhaps as a Mercenary, a man accustomed to blood, he might see something within Atlas that many did not. The lithe frame coiled tight, the ever vigilant eyes he possessed, and the aptitude for combat. One might see how he acquired the monikor 'Warhound of Vastime'. But that was a story for a later time. Perhaps soon if this man could prove himself.

By alloiting him independent command on how he chose to carry out this mission and submitting it for approval, he'd allow Atlas to learn about his competence. He was ever under the watchful gaze of Atlas meaning that his majesty now could cast his shadow over him. Should everything go according to plan, these men would see a profitable company soon.

Besides, becoming a state-sponsored Mercenary would yield useful benefits. Tangible benefits.

"You will find the men you will be working with in a day. I trust you can find your way to the base easy enough?"

With that being said he'd remove a gloved hand from behind his back, slipping it into one of his coat pockets. He'd simply remove out a black card, no visible markings on it save for a small emblem which resembled a coat of arms. A hawk with it's talon's inside a snake tearing it in half. It held a simple swiping line on the back of it which was white.

"Show this at the gate; it's a special visitor for those I need to see regularly. Losing it or otherwise is punishable by fine. Unless you require me for further details- I trust we can depart and meet tomorrow so I can introduce you to your detachment?"

Law

Artist: One Piece OST - Song: Law's theme - Word Count: 301

Law took the small black plastic card in his hand and looked it over. The card was a deep black with a glossy finish, it's only discerning feature an embossed red coat of arms depicting a hawk and its prey. He turned it over to discover that on the back of the card was a simple white stripe. It was a simplistic design, but it had a certain feeling of significance to it. He placed it in his pocket before looking back towards Atlas, a man he felt had more in common with him than he was letting on.

"I'm sure I'll manage. Tomorrow it is then. I'll find my way around in the meantime."

With that Law turned and began to walk away. After taking a few steps he raised his right arm in a sort of L formation and slightly lowered his head while continuing to walk. He then raised his head and closed his fist, leaving his index and middle finger to create a V. In his mind they'd already won. All that was left was to kill some time until he could assess his team. Depending on what their skills were he'd start to plan an assault. Of course, he'd need to gain some intel first, but he didn't exactly have time to travel to the Bahamas and back before the next day, so a night on the town it was. He'd seen a fair interesting locations on his way in, and now that the day was coming to a close he thought it would be interesting to see what the nightlife was like around here. It wouldn't do to go too crazy, but he imagined that he could get up to a bit of trouble if he played his cards right. Might as well find out.
