Mirja, The Wolf of Eden
Mirja jogged happily along, smiling and swishing her tail as she did so. This was nice. It was nice, just going slow with a person so they could get their feet under them. It wasn't fast enough to bother her by going to slow, it was so slow it was like a jolly amble to the shops on a cool day.
"There are ruins of the old world around here. It's rather errie in a beautiful way to wander the bones of the world and see what you can find" she said, before frowning. Something was wrong. It took her a few seconds to notice that there was only one set of footfalls, her own. So, she stopped and looked back, seeing the girl way off in the distance.
"Uhh, bloody amateurs" Mirja muttered, breaking into her Slip Stream. She would go from being a dot in the distance, to being right in front of Elena in a second, giving the girl some appreciation for just how much Mirja was slowing down for her. "Smoking is bad for you, you know. We've still got another two dozen miles to go before we get there, and you are gasping like some sort of eighty year old. I got a few things that might help, one to give you your breath back, the other to just carry you like a cute bride. Which is a really cool idea, now that I think of it. Do you want to get married, my little smokerette?"

ELENA GENOVESE
As Elena stood there, panting, she let the cigarette she had forgotten about this entire time slip out of her mouth and onto the ground, soon to meet her foot as she stomped it into nothingness. She didn't want the cinders to turn into something else, after all. With one last sigh, she pinched the bridge of her nose and shook her head. "I get that smoking is bad," she said with obvious disdain, "but the stress relief is a lot more important considering what my job is."
Really now, there were more people telling her that smoking was bad. No shit. She didn't think much about her intelligence because she was paranoid about feeling too confident or arrogant, but she wasn't that stupid. She could quit anytime, and unlike older times, there was actual legitimate technology to help her body cope with the withdrawal. If people could literally destroy mountains, she figured there was something to help her stop smoking.
"Smoking is not why I'm tired. I'm tired because I sprinted seven miles." Ellie said, trying to keep her nerves under control. A long, deep intake of air was followed by a slow, drawn out sigh as she counted to ten. Not something that actually worked, but she was desperate right now. Being forced to exercise and then being mocked wasn't necessarily her favorite thing in existence, but again, she was still conscious enough to be as polite as she humanly could be. There was no reason for her to dislike Mirja but the girl was proving extremely frustrating right now. Ellie could only hope that it got better over time.

Mirja, The Wolf of Eden
Mirja shook her head softly as the woman needed her ciggerates for stress relief. It wasn't something that was going to help in the long run, what with killing her and all.
"If it's stress relief you need, try tea. I could give you some Changsao tea. It's very good for relaxing the body without side effects like slowly killing you and making you stink and stealing all your breath until you can't even do a Domirgsig without trying to puke your guts out. Also Jizen is a very relaxing technique as well, and when you get in good with your friend, then you can talk to him or her or them about your issues. Personal therapist, you know?" she gave a grin, and then nodded softly.
"But yea, seven miles is a really short distance. Why, me and Henrex once run around six thousand miles, and then tore apart an encampment of evil people. Seven miles is like a short stumble from where we were. So obviously, the only reason you couldn't make it further is because the smoking is weighing down your limbs and your lungs and making both of them useless with it's toxic smoke" she exclaimed, before moving in and stroking her face teasingly.
"You did, however, ignore my question. Do you want some help, or do you want to marry me and have me carry you like my bride? Honestly, for someone as beautiful as you, I do not mind either way" It was unclear if she was teasing, or actually offering to marry a girl she had just met. This was Mirja, after all, you could never tell what she was going for until she had gone for it and you were left in the dust scratching your ass.

ELENA GENOVESE
"I'd rather not marry someone as flirtatious as you, thanks." Ellie muttered as she brushed Mirja's hand away from her cheek. "And for your information, it's frankly a miracle I can run seven miles. Not entirely because I smoke, but mostly because I'm just a normal human being for the most part." Looking at Mirja, Ellie stood up straight and wiped the sweat off her forehead. Man was it hot outside or was it just her? "I wouldn't compare me to you because that's the big difference here. I'm a normal human being with normal human limitations, and you're clearly as far from that as I could ever hope to be." she concluded before stuffing her hands in her pockets.
Her breathing had settled down, but her arms and legs felt heavy. She could probably only manage a few more miles before collapsing. Not to mention she was already inhibited by the fact she was in a suit, making her even slower than she already was to the woman. If Mirja intended on making her better at her job, she definitely wasn't doing much good right now. All she did was gave Elena vague advice on how to talk to a ghost inside a sword, which sounded like some real anime bullshit if you asked her. Still, if that's how it was then there was nothing that Ellie could do to change it. She'd just have to accept it and move on.
"Now, what's this help you're offering." Ellie asked, taking a deep breath and feeling the burn in her lungs. It had been a couple days since she had this much exercise. Maybe she should stop smoking...
Nah.

Mirja, The Wolf of Eden
Mirja gave Elena a big grin, even after she was brushed off. Mirja wasn't the kind of girl to get dissuaded by anything less than someone dropping a nuke on her. Or several nukes. Either way.
"Ohh, if you put on a dress for me and became my bride I wouldn't be flirtious anymore. Because I'd have a bride. I wouldn't need to flirt with anyone else. Except you. I think, can you flirt with your wife? I mean, sure it is better than knocking them over the head and dragging them into the bedroom, but still" She veered off and then came back to reality with a swishing tail.
"Ohh, humans are only limited by what they can dream. If you can dream it you can do it, and you can dream the ability to run if it was not for your Sticks of Slow Death that you so enjoy. But fine, if I am going to be shackled to such a slow girl because an idiot didn't teach her how to do her job right, at least I can help her go a short distance because she has been dying inside and so can run" Mirja was really laying it on thick, how smoking was a bad idea that she did not approve of.
She'd approach Ellie, and suddenly scoop the girl up bridal style before taking off before she could do anything to complain about it. As she took off, they seemed to be enclosed in some sort of bubble of air as the surrounding scenery shot past so fast it became an incoherent blur. No sound breached the bubble save her own breathing, and they were going phenomenally faster than the girl had probably ever been in her life until now.
"I'm taking you to the ruins of the old world. To see what we can find. Their bones can be glorious at times, keeping secrets that breed enlightenment for the masses. If we find something good, I'll even take you out on the town to celebrate"

ELENA GENOVESE
At this point, Elena had tuned out most of what Mirja was saying. It was just getting repetitive and annoying, and her attention span was already fairly bad. The readheaded cop figured it was high time to just let her mind take her wherever she pleased. While Mirja was going on about how smoking was an awful sin to one's own health, Ellie was busy wondering what she would have to eat when she got home that day. If she got home that day. Going home and taking a shower in her own house and then falling asleep on her queen sized bed in her own house sounded really, really nice right about now. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like she would end up going home any time soon.
The next thing Elena knew was that she was being carried bridal style through the air as what looked like the local scenery flew by at abnormal speeds. This caught her by surprise and immediately she started looking around, trying to figure out what was going on, only to have it strike her after a few seconds of panic. This was how fast Mirja could move...? Was this part of the special power all Shinigami had? Elena's mind racked itself for answers but she quickly realized that there she had no idea how any of this was happening. This was beyond normal human comprehension, she felt like. Maybe she would just wait and see. It seemed that there was a bubble surrounding them both, keeping them alive and well. Was this also a part of a Shinigami's powers? Only time could tell, Elena felt.
And then she heard that they were going to look through old ruins? Was there something there, or was Ellie really being dragged all the way out here for scavenging. That really couldn't be it, could it? It sounded so boring, the woman could already feel herself ready to pass out from a mix of exhaustion and disinterest. She REALLY couldn't wait to go home now.

Mirja, The Wolf of Eden
Suddenly, the blurring landscape as the rocketed towards their goal at speeds beyond Mach Four, stopped. It came into focus, as Mirja had suddenly gone from such incredible speeds, to nothing. And then she was put down, and nodded, with a wolfish tail playfully brushing against Elena.
"So, yea. That's how fast I like to go. It's pretty cool, huh? Soul Reapers have another trick called Flash Step, but that's something entirely different. It's like this" She told Elena, so she had the girl's attention, before suddenly vanishing with the iconic sound, and appearing some thirty foot ahead in the blink of an eye.
She turned to smile and wave at the girl, but then paused and sniffed the air, her tail swishing in a more focused manner now, as she flash stepped back to Elena and took out a pill dispenser.
"There are Hollows about. I was going to wait for this part of your curriculum until I was confident in your skills, but I guess I'm throwing you in the lake and hoping you can swim. Take one of these, draw your sword, and be ready. They have probably already clocked onto you being here. No other spiritual presence in many a mile" she handed the pill to Elena, and hoped she would take it because she was kind of helpless as she was.
If the girl did, she would order the body to go hide itself, and hope that she had gone into Shinigami form before. It was kind of jarring to see your body go run off while you stayed here and watched it. But there would be little time for that because the roar of a hollow would be heard, and then it would crest over the ruins of a building, hungry and ready for action.
"Aim for the mask, try not to die. You are more sturdy in this form than you could hope to be in your human body, but that doesn't make you invincible"

ELENA GENOVESE
And just as quickly as it started, it ended. Elena was set down and almost immediately handed a pill as Mirja explained what was going on. There were Hollows around. So that's what was going on, or at least partially. It wasn't just because they were here to look for old remains of an older civilization. Thank god, Elena thought to herself as she popped the pill in her mouth and swallowed it dry. She had no idea what it was supposed to do, but fortunately got a very immediate result as her soul popped out of her body.
"Oh." the woman mumbled as she looked down at herself in her new outfit. At the left side of her hip were her two swords, one with a white grip and the other with a black one. Monochrome. At least they had some kind of theme, or looked like such. It would be much easier to distinguish the two like that. Maybe that was the point. Her thoughts were swiftly eradicated as the sound of a Hollow's roar sounded throughout the ruins, and a shadow loomed over them from above. Quickly, Ellie drew the sword with the white grip, or at least tried to. It got caught at just the tip as she underestimated how long the blade was. She had never held one of these things before, and had only used it to kill a Hollow with Henrex's help. This would be interesting.
As she brandished the weapon in full, she looked at the length of the blade and the guard, getting a quick understanding of how it looked. The blade was held with both hands as Elena tried to mimic the stance of a samurai she had seen in movies, partially making herself look dumb as she held the blade a little too close to herself. She didn't quite realize that, as she had no experience in this kind of thing. Ellie didn't even think about her body, as she had been distracted with how she looked and how she had two swords rather than one. That was a rarity, or so Henrex told her.
And just as quickly as it appeared, the Hollow leaped at them both. Ellie took a step back, narrowly missing the downward smash that the Hollow intended for her. She was weaker so it was coming for her, she presumed. What she didn't expect, was the force of the impact to be so powerful. It sent her flying several yards back, much to the woman's surprise. This thing looked to use brute force, but as far as she was aware there could be some kind of magical bullshit hidden somewhere. Ellie stood back up after having been knocked and her ass and brandished her sword again, a mix of fear and unsurety paralyzing her in place.

Mirja, The Wolf of Eden
Well, crap. When they said she had no idea what she was doing, they really meant she had no idea what she was doing. Mirja felt a little bad for wandering off and leaving her to her fate, with the Hollow seemingly ignoring Mirja entirely. The girl was worse at Zanjutsu than Mirja was, at least she could draw the sword and swing it. Sure, that swinging pissed off people that had any degree of actual skill with a sword, but it was still something that worked better than what seemed to be going on with Elena. Sink or swim was looking pretty dangerous right now, but the girl seemed decidedly bored when she mentioned scavenging, so this was a better activity for her. Nobody ever evolved faster than when their life was threatened.
"You are doing a great job Elena. Keep it up. It's all in the wrist, and so on and so forth" She shouted, before turning to the nearest building and scanning around. It was very old, and didn't look to be unmolested, so she brushed it off and turned her eyes to another building a bit off. Still in range to keep am eye on Elena if she needed it, but could go about her own scavenging and not have to worry about someone showing a glum look. Because it seemed to be rather scant going as she couldn't find anything from here either. But, there was a lingering smell, that she followed. Making sure to keep in sight of Elena, but it smelled like, metal. That had yet to be tarnished by rust. Stainless and strong as all hell.
"Don't let him hit you! It hurts when they do that!" She gave her words of encouragement before going off to look for this metal.

ELENA GENOVESE
Elena panted and looked up at the beast. It loomed over her at well past twice her height, and its arms were massive and muscular. It looked kind of like an ape, except its legs weren't as stubby. Compared to the rest of its mass, they were, but it seemed they were still perfectly functioning. Its mask resembled that of a-
Leaping to the left, she barely managed to dodge another downward smash, and just like before, the impact was massive. This time she was more prepared and was merely sent skidding backwards on her feet. This... This was something else. Fighting for her life wasn't new, but against something that made her feel so small, and with a weapon she wasn't used to...
"Why me...?" she muttered to herself in response to Mirja's lack of help. What a bother that woman was. And it wouldn't be the last time she saw her either, Elena thought. Not on her life. That would be too lucky of her. A low side swipe came at her and she just managed to step back out of the way. The force of the swing was enough to push her a few steps back, but she managed to catch herself just like before. Taking roughly three quick steps forwards, Elena swung her sword horizontally and managed to barely leave a cut on the ape-like creature's stomach. It howled, more out of displeasure than pain before Elena felt a large, incredibly heavy fist strike her in the side.
"Fuck..." the woman mumbled as she recovered from the impact of being slammed into a wall. The ape didn't even give her a moment of peace as she stood back up, the beast now charging at her directly.
"Jump!" she heard a voice say. And while she wouldn't have even tried, she wasn't one to argue when her life was in danger. A quick push of both of her legs and she flew up into the air plenty higher than she thought she would. Roughly fifteen or so feet, she estimated as calmly as she could. Just enough to clear the beast and land behind him, although the surprise from her new feat of strength kept her attention just long enough for her not to prepare herself for a proper landing. Still, she landed on her feet just well enough to turn around and watch as the gorilla-ape or whatever turned around to face her. A quick scan of the creature told her that it was covered in fur. No armor or anything, so it wasn't like she couldn't strike other parts of its body to weaken it or anything, right?
That was what she thought, until her eyes grazed over where she had struck the beast before. Its cut was bubbling, and after a few seconds it had completely healed back over as if nothing had happened.
"Oh." she mumbled before taking another step back. Hit it in the head, Mirja had said? Well shit, it looked like that was the only way out of the situation. Thank god this thing was just slow enough for her to be faster than it, even in her pitiful, just-turned-shinigami body. It didn't seem to have any other power either as far as she could t-
And once more, she was corrected mid thought as the creature opened its mouth, and a blue light started to collect inside. Elena's immediate instinct was to move, and so she did. Up into the air she went once more as a massive laser was fired from where the light started to collect. Just like she anticipated, she could only jump as high as she did before, barely clearing the creature in time to miss the laser. Dodging was not her full intent however. With her sword brandished with the blade pointed square at the creature, she thrust it forward as she descended upon its head and pierced where its brain would be if it were an actual ape. Or at least, around there. The blade sunk deep and protruded from the other side, and the creature almost immediately collapsed, which was the only part that Elena didn't think of.
Grunting as she fell on her ass, Elena watched as the creature dissipated into some kind of blue energy and vanished right before her eyes. Her sword was the only thing that remained. Without much consideration for what just happened, Ellie carefully walked over and picked up her sword, staring at the spot where the creature would be laying if it were some common animal. Unfortunately this was not some common animal, and Ellie couldn't help but wonder where the creature went. Was it just dead forever? Was it right to call it dead considering it was already dead? Her brain was already racking itself for more answers it couldn't comprehend, as she had no clue what had just happened, or what a Hollow even was.
