Watching the underground (OPEN)
Sun Apr 29, 2012 4:35 pm
The underground caverns, halls, pathways and corridors of Karakura were cold and unforgiving. Each wall held it's own vast library of stories as people down her conversed, traded, attacked and killed one another. Not necessarily in that order but any crime under here seemed to go unnoticed to the authorial eye. It couldn't be helped. It was one gigantic maze with hundreds of entrances and exits all leaking into other caverns and places you probably shouldn't be in. if you were used to this sort of atmosphere then maybe you could grow to like it more than some. However this was never going to be the place for this one particular girl to ever call her true home. She had no real place to stay. She had merely stumbled across a destroyed laboratory of her former master and had taken refuge under it's abandoned ceiling. It was here that she gathered other people like her, creating a small band of runaways and exiles that lived for each other and nothing more or less.
That was the life for Miku right now. The exiled girl walked the world with this small group and right now she needed some space. Stepping out of a hidden hatch in the wall disguised as a locked vault, Miku crawled from the small hole barely big enough for her to squeeze herself through. This was the only passage between here and her hideout that didn't attracted attention. She clambered out, then closed the hatch behind her. Here, she was above a buzzing market sector with the commoners squabbling over the freshest meat taken from the finest cattle which was blatantly a lie. Nothing sold down here wouldn't give you a belly ache from the depths of hell which is probably why even the medicine is green down here.
What Miku did though, was act as self positioned guard of underground Karakura. She was unable to go above ground as the daylight would give her away an working with the shadows helped her a lot. She had also been so used to being blind that with her news eyes, sight really did not fit her. The darkest of nights were as clear as day in her bright blue eyes and her body became one with the shadows with her dark attire: jacket, boots and shorts. She wore little more than this. Tucked away secretly behind her was her sword but this cannot be easily seen. Miku sat above the civilians and began her daily guard duty. She watched the crowds waiting for something to happen.
Maybe it would... maybe it won't...

LEN, LEN, LEN, LEN-LEN-LEN WASHI
I really need to stop taking random walks… Len thought to himself as he walked down the… Where in the hell even I am?!? He questioned. All around him was walls; he knew this was a public area, he just hadn't a clue what this public area was. Most guys his age, at just 17, would have been scared out of their wits at this point. However, not Len. Especially since he could feel the rotating swirl of energy on his chest as an energy-like substance shot out of his chest, taking shape next to him in the form of a young girl; with traits extremely similar to Len himself. Rin knew as much as Len did about the place they were in.
He soon reached the edge of the tunnel he was walking in, when he saw before him a large room, walls on every side. Little to his knowledge, he had just entered Underground Karakura; people were bustling all over, at home with the marketplace. Len suddenly realized as he looked at the people… that they were all much more shabbily dressed than he. In fact, the such good care he took of himself probably made him stand out like a sore thumb amongst these people. Len had the terrible feeling that he was going to get mugged; so he did what his best chance was.
He and Rin lowered their heads, as they walked fluidly into the crowd. They were clad in basic white shirts, plain shorts, and a tie. That was what made Len fear the worst; the ties, his headphones, and of course his yellow-golden hair. However, he knew that as long as they just went with the crowd… Everything should be al-
His thoughts were suddenly and roughly cut off as he suddenly felt a hand grip him by the collar, throwing him back onto the ground. He landed, hard, on his back, wincing as Rin suddenly turned around, charging energy into her hands as she pointed them at the man who had just assaulted Len.She's not…! "RIN, NO!" He called out, as she suddenly froze in her tracks, and the man gave a smile as he rose up a fist, smashing her in the face. "WHY YOU….!" Len called out, in pure anger, his teeth gritted as suddenly… the man began to change, red horns growing out of his head.
"Looks like there's something interesting here AFTER ALL! I was getting BORED after I finally found out how to get into the city; living in these slums is no fun at all! SO PREPARE YOURSELF, BOY, FOR I AM ABOUT TO FEAST ON YOUR SOUL!" The demon announced, taking a step forwards. The demon wasn't strong at all; that was the only reason it had a been able to get into the city. However, compared to a Len who couldn't even use his abilities, he would still be more than a match. The entire situation had been noticed by most of the people in the area, and they had either scattered or just took a good number of steps back, creating a space with only Len, Rin, and the man before them, who was laughing, as he took a single step forwards…

"Karakura Underground"
Eriko stood at one of the various entrances of what is the still under construction Karakura Underground. Most of the area itself is still being built but those who have moved into what was already built seem to be getting by, or so he thought. He walked through the doorway only to find what looked be a den for some of the scummiest crime lords and monsters. A place that wasn't safe for just normal people to be in as they wouldn't last longer than a second. Parts of this district even looked very shabby, as if they were a modern version of a district in Soul Society's Rukongai.
This was far from what he expected to find as he made his first trip to the Underground, which he expected to find another part of the city with some different kinds of entertainment business and shops and place that in the middle of being settled as a space of new opportunity. He wasn't far from the truth, but perhaps some very shady people decided to take this particular part of town and use for their own purposes, and those who already lived here just got swept up in the chaos.
Eriko would tread through the area with care in the case that anyone was feeling "froggy" to try and mug him. Having seen this places similarities with Rukongai, Eriko could feel himself grow a little upset. He hated places like these, where the standard of living was low and the people suffered because of the lack of law and authority. Though he grew up as a noble, he very much saw what the people of the slums in Soul Society went through and the situation here in this part of the underground was no different. He was just glad there was still enough of an artificial ecosystem and light sources to the place from being uninhabitable.
As he walked through the streets he would then here a scream. His instincts would then jump into action as he ducked into the alleyway. He could feel a couple of spiritual presences not too far from him, but as he was moving through the alleys, it felt as he was moving through a labyrinth and maneuvering was increasingly difficult. "Damn it at this rate, I won't make it in time." He jumped to the rooftops and began sensing around for those presences again. They were close so Eriko felt no need to turn into his shinigami form. He'd jumped rooftops until he found a couple of children being attacked by a demon, and jumped from the roof. "Hey! LEAVE THOSE KIDS ALONE!" he says point in a what a bit of a hammy fashion.

Theres no such thing as a pleasant day when your down here in the underground. Hopefully those that had strayed into the dark world beneath the city have come to realise that this place was not somewhere you could just go and hope to leave without confrontation. Why would Miku be here if that was not the case? She looked on at the crowds, noticing the odd person running off into buildings out of her view. She knew they'd be fine there for a few minutes as long as she did something about what was going on down here. Miku stood up so she could get a better view of what was happening.
Over in the crowd of now scattering people, a fight had broken out for what seemed to be little reason. One boy, one girl and this other man who turned up soon after were all focusing their attention on a single thing: A demon in the room. This had actually happened before about three days ago when Miku was wandering among the people herself. Somebody attempted to steal her sword but she quickly knocked them down, not killing them, and giving them a warning. She also knew that the one here must have been that same man. His presence was similar: anger, pain. All the emotions a demon may bring with him. The boy atop a roof yelled for the creature to stop, the ones on the floor were ganged up on and they were too far away to be saved. She could stand here and watch....but she at least had a heart.
Miku vanished, the sounds of a sonido emitting from her position to reappear between the demon and the two being attacked. She was know knelt on one knee with her other leg outstretched, her sword across her back as if she had simply leapt between them and posed. The only weird thing was how her sword was now lightly coloured red with blood. She stood up straight, swinging her sword in a singular circle before slotting it into a hole in a chain around her waist as an acting scabbard. The creature, burst into a bloody red as a black and blue sphere erupted in it's chest and several slashes of a sword tore off it's limbs to heighten the messy detonation. Miku turned to the stained floor behind her and shook her hand, obviously cooling it down from some peculiar energy she must have used. She then knelt down on the shreded corpse and spoke to herself in a very soft, timid voice as though she was afraid of her own opinion.
"Oh... it wasn't him...oops..."

LEN, LEN, LEN, LEN-LEN-LEN WASHI
Len's eyes widened; he wasn't sure what it was, but he was certain he could almost make out a blur in front of their assailant as the girl appeared in front of them. Len and Rin, who had just stood up as well, leaped back as suddenly the man in front of them exploded, his guts splattering everywhere. Len watched the stuff on the ground, wary that it was going to regenerate. He sighed a sigh of relief as he saw it did not, and both he and Rin both turned to face the girl who they believed had saved them.
"Thank you.""Thank you."
The two yellow-golden haired teenagers said, bowing in unison to the girl. Then, Len took a step forwards, extending a hand.
"Hello, how are you this fine day? I'm Moryukuna Len, and this is Rin. She's... erm... my sister, you could say. So, I assume you're an arrancar then? You can tell us; we have no problems with the arrancar."
He said brightly, having recognized the sound of the sonido as she had suddenly appeared in front of them. Rin merely allowed Len to do the talking, suddenly looking around to see if that flying-man was alright, leaving Len to his thoughts.I hope she responds... after all, she did just save our lives.. And he was also speaking the truth when he said he had no quarrels with Arrancar; in fact, his life had been saved by an arrancar at one occasion. So all he could do was wait, his hand outstretched, hoping she would take it...

Eriko lands very anticlimactically on the ground of the dirty alley way. He does feel some backlash run through his body after hitting the ground, but nothing too bad, considering he uses a physically enhanced gigai and is ready use to jump from heights. Eriko looks at the scene before him no longer pointing, but a little sad. Not only had this new girl stolen his thunder with her quick kill and demon guts exploding, but she also had to look incredibly cool while doing it.
The shinigami shakes off his wonderment and discouragement and goes back to analyzing the situation. This young girl, out of no where swoops through and with almost uncatchable movements, instantly obliterates the demon with no effort. The monster of course was not worth using such unnecessary exertions of power. Eriko had mere planned to scare him of, not kill him. The noise from earlier indicated use of the Hollow equivalent to shunpo, Sonido and this looked humanoid. Telling from the spiritual pressure flowing off of she was obviously a powerful arrancar. Eriko kept his guard while moving of to the younger two children checking them for injuries.
"Hey are you two kids okay? The area looks pretty rough, you sure should be here?" Judging from the way they greeted their savior, they sounded fine, but still being attacked by a demon was a traumatizing experience and the kids, though they seemed to have some spirit energy, don't seem to be ready in case thread worse than that demon decided to attack them.

Miku stood up firmly and looked around at the now scattered crowd. They had all ran into houses, stalls and even off the bridges that connect the chamber to other corridors. Luckily there is water below but that stuff isn't too clean. Back to the important bit though, the floor was now drenched in red and in fact, Miku's coat was now rather drenched seeing as she stood perfectly between the demon and the children. Hopefully they didn't get touched by it's blood at all, but now Miku needed a change of coat.
She turned away from the people and attempted to walk off, but one of them mentioned the word 'Arrancar'. She immediately turned and lifted her sword from her side without taking it from the chains it was wrapped around and pointed it directly at the boy.
"Mind what you say child, How can you tell what I am? Does it matter?"
The other guy had arrived on the scene and was now inspecting the area. Miku didn't really care what he did as to her, he was just another man that liked climbing on the rooftops of this shanty looking area. In fact he probably brought a lot of problems with him as well so Miku couldn't be more careful in this situation. She looked at each person in turn before speaking again, her sword still pointed in a very threatening mode of address.
"None of you belong here, I'd run before something else happens..."
The people around here hadn't come out of the buildings. They saw Miku had her sword clenched still, and they knew not to come out if she has her sword in her hands...

Rin looked up at the man, nodding. "Hai! We're fine, don't worry. But I dunno about that girl…" Rin said, her eyes becoming a bit downcast as she looked back at the arrancar that had saved them. Her own thoughts were the same as Len's, as they were essentially the same person, after all...
Len watched as she began to walk away, keeping his hand out as she suddenly turned around and spoke to them. "...You're probably right. It is a mistake to judge people by their race; and most likely doesn't matter what race they are. That's why I don't do it. And I only know you're an arrancar because I was recently tortured by one. However… I can see you're not like her. So please-" She cut him off as she continued pointing her sword at him and began speaking.
However, despite her advice, the boy remained steadfast. What must have happened to this girl…? He wondered to himself, not moving a single inch from his position, his eyes still locked onto Miku's. "… I'm not going from this spot until you accept our thanks. It's the very least we're able to do. Please." He said, his hand still remaining outstretched before him, his gaze remaining on the girl in front of him and his drive quite clear. To save people while you yourself are in so much pain… He was a fairly smart kid; he could tell that she most likely felt some kind of pain towards her race, although he couldn't tell what it was. And for someone to have to go through that pain while still protecting others… that can't be right. He thought to himself, fairly certain in his assumptions. So, until she accepted his honest thanks, he and Rin were not going to move from that spot…

This kid was quite trusting for someone he just met, who was also a hollow. Hollow were known to eat souls of anyone they felt like eating. While being an Arrancar allowed for less interest in devouring souls, Eriko himself expecting some animosity had it come up that he was a Shinigami. One thing he was absolutely sure of was that this girl was not like most hollow. He wasn't sure he should let his guard down, but this Arrancar saved the kid.
"I'm not sure what qualifies one to belong down here, but I'm more than capable of dealing with anyone, or anything, that tries to take me on. I doubt this kid is defenseless himself." Eriko looked to the younger child nearly. He looked as this boy and girl had spiritual pressure that was one and the same. He wasn't very powerful, but this boy had potential. "I'm surprised that someone with your power is down here yourself. This isn't exactly the kind of place I'd expect to just find some with your...talents."
Eriko was still wondering why this place was in the condition it is. It wasn't around long enough to become a slum and much of Underground Karakura was still in development. Slum's are common to show up in cities that flourish because the city government can't maintain all of the city without some areas deteriorating. He suspected someone or something crawled in and took over.

Miku wasn't going to worry too much about what these people were saying. If anything she needed to vacate the area quickly before any more people turned up. And not just normal everyday people that you see walking on the streets. More like, people with swords, guns and more that could be patrolling or simply looking for a toss up. Miku worked in the shadows and she needed to return to them. The boy however was not letting up. His stern attitude and hand outstretched just confused Miku. She slowly lowered her sword, but did not shake his hand. She did not trust this kid at all. Way too innocent. It reminded her of somebody she once knew. Somebody that forced her heart to shatter, and this was not something she wanted to be reminded of.
And this other guy, whoever he is had decided to drop into the conversation. He must have seen the commotion and came over to see what was going on. Granted, he had been here for some time and Miku was well aware of his presence. She turned back to the boy however, still curious as to what he was trying to say.
"I can accept your thanks..."
She said nothing more. her voice, soft yet scared as though she had just crawled back to civilisation for the first time in years. this was a drastic change to her attitude before, calling to the kids to move. In reality, Miku never spoke much and preferred silence. It let her hear if the enemy was closing in on her. It was as though she was almost always paranoid about something as her eyes darted left and right as she was spoken to. This other guy however was starting to talk a little too forward. Her eyes stared at him but she did not move her head to speak. She just whispered her response.
"If that is so.... why did you not kill that man before me?... Why did these children not tear him apart? Why is it my sword is the one now dripping red?... I am not talented. I just know who should die..."
Miku sounded quite disturbing. Rather showing no emotion other than sorrow, she didn't sound like she wanted to talk about anything happy. She still hadn't shaken the boys hand after all.
