Vanguard

The Vanguard, formerly the subdivision of the Gotei 13 known as the Special Human Task Force, has but two missions; to defend Earth, and to be the Diplomat between Earth and the Spiritual Nations. Regardless of the odds or the enemy, that is their mission. Founded originally by Genpaku Arishima around roughly 2360, following events in Madrid in the year 2411 Genapku separated the Special Human Task Force form the Gotei, breaking the influence that the Gotei 13 may have held and re-named the organization Vanguard, and refocused its goals.

The term Vanguard refers to “A group of people leading the way in new developments or ideas.” Genpaku has transformed what had been his own fledgling dream into an organization capable of living up to that name. He has recruited many of the most talented minds from the human world to back his Research and Development Bureau combined with anyone willing to lend their blade towards the protection of the world.

The Secondary Mission of the Vanguard is to act as mediator and diplomat for Earth to the Spiritual Nations and Vice-Versa, relaying the needs, wants, and demands of each to the other and keeping both sides focused on the real danger and issues.

Allies
All those who would protect Earth.

Enemies
All those who would destroy Earth.

Those Who May Join
Anyone willing to defend Earth.

The Vanguard is split into 5 major subdivisions, but beyond that there are several noteworthy positions outside of the main organizational set-up.

Commander
The Leader of the Vanguard, they are in charge of all major actions and decisions that go on within the organization.

Reagent General
The Second in Command of the Vanguard, their decisions can only be overturned by the Commander or a combined decision from all 4 Wardens. In times when the Commander is unable to lead for whatever reason, they assume full control until such a time as the Commander can take back their position or are elevated to the position.

Warden
The Four Wardens of the World, a set of positions created by Genpaku Arishima shortly after the Vanguard’s founding. Effectively, they serve as regional Generals for their designated area. They act with the Commander’s own voice unless they are overturned by the Reagent General or Commander themselves. They also act as the Commander’s council with the Reagent General and advise him on how to proceed.


The Five Branches
The Five Branches are the main body of the Vanguard, and each is specialized for a certain set of tasks.

The Boros Guard
The Boros Guard is effectively the Honor Guard of the Vanguard, and serve to ensure the security of Sukai Karakua, the main headquarters of Vanguard, and assist in the defense of Karakura Town as a whole. Additionally, the Boros Guard act as Internal Affairs of Vanguard. The leader of the Vanguard is given the Title First Sword, while the Second in command is the Second Sword. Ranks beyond that may claim similar titles if they so choose.

Initiative
The First-Response Sector and major combat division of Vanguard. These are those who are relish Battle for either glory or honor, and are also those responsible for the combat training of the rest of the organization. This is the largest of the sub divisions, and is also the most widely spread as ever base of Vanguard has members of this branch within it. The leader of Initiative is Vanguard’s Master of Arms, while its second in command is the Major of Initiative.

The Combine
The Research and Development Bureau of Vanguard, the majority of this Branch is located within Sukai Karakua and the Vanguard Main Base. However, there are those that call themselves Vanguard Combines in many other major cities, doing research on different subjects. The Combine is staffed by many brilliant minds harvested both from both this world and the next; the Head of the Combine is referred too formal as the Lead Researched, while his second in command is the Senior Researcher.

The Dimir
This branch serves a dual purpose; firstly, this is the Intelligence Bureau, gathering information from all around the world and relaying it through the Yuudeshi Network and other means of exchange too keep the organization informed. Secondly, these men are the chief Diplomats of Vanguard, charismatic and knowledgeable. They are led by the Lord of Whispers and the Arbiter respectfully.

The Arcanists
Serving as the chief magical support for the Organization, those specialized in Kidō/Magic/Demonic Arts/etc are placed here. They serve both as magical support and medical group. Their members are often called Battlemages by the others because that is the role they serve. They are led by the Archsage while the Second in Command is the High Battlemage.

While Vanguard is directly linked to every major city on the Earth as well as several places within Soul Society, they have several major bases that serve other functions.

Main Headquarters
The main Headquarters of Vanguard is located within Sukai Karakua, the floating City above Karakura Town. The Main base extends under the entire interior of the city with increased guard around the reactors that keep the city aloft. There are several buildings above ground that act as small stations for pedestrians to reach quickly, as well as a central building that is used to house Dignitaries and Diplomats from other countries when they pay their visits. This also serves as the major hub of The Combine’s activities.

Vanguard Moon Base
You read it correctly; accompanying the city that has been built upon the moon a detachment of the original Special Human Task Force was sent with them and later set up a waygate within the city. While Vanguard’s major priority is still Earth, it has not retracted its members here should the city come under attack.

Seireitei Station
The Original barracks for the Special Human Task Force, it has not been converted into a receiving station for Vanguard and the Gotei 13 when they need to make use of the Vanguard’s travel system. Since the Gotei is allied to the Vanguards cause, the station is kept so that should Soul Society require reinforcements they can be furnished.

Immediate Response Transit System(IRTS)
The Immediate Response Transit System(IRTS), often just referred to as Waygates, are a series of teleportation gates back-engineered from the Shinigami Portals and modern technology. It is connected to every major city within the current world as long as several other locations.

Vanguard Badge
The Badge that signifies one’s acceptance into Vanguard. It is required for all members to have it on them at all times, and serves as all the uniform Vanguard requires.
