She was already deemed strange by the orphanage as at the young age of one, she had already been marked with a dragon tattoo down her left arm. The official cause of the death of her parents had been ruled a homicide, but in the whispers of the spirit world, a Hollow had been haunting her family for some time, until it was purified finally. Her family had just been caught in the crossfire as unintentional casualties of the spiritual conflict.

Her fate changed when a powerful Yakuza crime boss, Saito Sonozaki, took her in—not out of mere compassion, but because of the spiritual significance of her mysterious tattoos. Saito himself was a Fullbringer, deeply connected to the spirit world, and he recognized the latent power in Ana. Seeing her as both a successor to his legacy and a unique bridge between the material and spiritual worlds, Saito adopted her, giving her the Sonozaki name and raising her as his own.

From the moment she entered the Sonozaki family, Ana was steeped in both the underworld and the spirit world. Saito educated her on the nature of Fullbring, teaching her to channel her spiritual power and harness the potential of her tattoos. Her dragon tattoo appeared on her first birthday, seemingly out of nowhere. Her adopted father knew its significance, as he could sense the spiritual power in the ink-like image. As the years passed, Ana's other tattoos manifested: a phoenix on her fifth birthday, a koi fish on her tenth, and finally, an oni on her fifteenth. Each appearance was preceded by the mysterious death of someone close to her, leading Saito to suspect that these tattoos were born from the residual spirit energy of the deceased, assuring him that this was the power like that of a Hollow, absorbing and consuming the spiritual energy to grow. Under Saito's tutelage, Ana grew into a formidable figure in both the Yakuza and the spiritual realms. She combined her natural intellect with formal education, earning a degree in business finance from Tokyo University to better manage the family's enterprises.

Ana sat across the table from the shop owner of a local convenience store in the back room of the shop. She was flanked by two, larger, men in business suits and sunglasses. They menacingly kept their arms folded, looking forward as she did business, Sonozaki Family Yakuza business. “Let’s see. You owe my family one-million and four-hundred thousand yen, plus interest. We are here because you are overdue on repaying that debt, and this is a pretty nice shop. Looks like our investment was well placed in you.”, Ana remarked as her pink hair cast a shadow over her face, except her mouth in the low light of the back office. “However, as you are aware. Investments are only good if they pay off, and you have yet to do that. This is a problem…”, she paused at the end as she brandished the contract the man had signed prior to this grim meeting. “I am here to fix that problem. So, where is the money?”, Ana asked with a sickening grin. It was clear she knew well from the fear that stanched up the room that her client did not have the funds to repay this hefty sum.

“L..Look, Madame Sonozaki, I just need more time! I..I’ll have your money, and more! I swear it, please!?”, he stammered out in exclamation before bowing prostrate on the floor, beside the desk, facing her. His body trembled with fear, and anxiety. It was clear that he was deeply stressed out by the predicament. His very livelihood, if not his life, was in jeopardy. “My daughter, she just got sick, and we had to pay for her medicine…”, he blubbered. The crack in his voice at the end betrayed the fact that tears were likely moving down his cheeks and slicking the floor with their moisture. Such a sign of weakness, and it was pathetic. This plight may have worked on more merciful souls, but not her. Father had sent her here to do a job, and with associates flanking her, she intended to set the same ruthless example as their boss. “So, you could afford to pay for your daughter’s medical expenses, but not to repay those who generously loaned you the yen to even do so in the first place? This store, and the money it has made you is a blessing from the Sonozaki clan. You are aware of this, naturally.”, Ana lectured as she put her high heel shoe on the back of the pleading shop owner’s head and pressed down softly, letting the pressure of her foot on his groveling form remind him of just how low he was in her eyes at that moment. “We all make mistakes, forget our priorities, and then we must take accountability for the result of such failures. Which is what this is, a failure. A failure to understand the contract you signed, a failure to repay the debt you owed, and a failure to prioritize who you pay first.”, Ana continued to lecture. “Now, how do you propose we correct our mistakes, and turn failure into success?”, the cruel woman asked as she twisted her foot slightly for emphasis.

The two men at her flank did not move, however one of them made the fatal mistake of letting a smirk cross his lips, and for Ana to see it. She took her foot from the store owner, and simply flared her spirit energy as her tattoos began to glow in response to her bubbling anger. “Be a professional!”, she snapped before slapping him hard across the face, enough so that it left a bright, red, mark across his cheek and sent his sunglasses flying into a wall where they broke and bent from the force of the impact. He shouted in pain and clutched his face briefly before standing up, and regaining his composure, trying to save face. “Let’s say we amend this contract and give you a little extra time. In exchange, I have a package for you to deliver. Fail me, and it won’t be money I come after next time…”, she paused again for dramatic effect to add to the gravity of her intimidating and demanding stance. “I’ll come for your daughter. She’s already cost you enough as it is. So let’s not let it come to that.”, she said as she snapped her fingers and turned for the door. “Make sure he doesn’t forget.”, she ordered the two men who then nodded and cracked their knuckles.

The screams that came out of the back office as Ana left the shop owner with her associates for a little rough reminder of what it meant to cross her, and the family were a grim testament to her brutal expectations. She had only just begun to light up a cigarette and take a drag, however, as the window to the shop exploded in a shower of glass. A large, clawed hand of a Hollow was reaching through it, only making her go from angry to furious. “Great… You better thank your ass this place is insured!”, she shouted as the hand holding her cigarette flicked it to the side, and the pink-haired woman activated her Oni tattoo. The right arm morphed into a large gauntlet, shaped like a demon’s hand, which she then used to punch the Hollow square in the face as it clawed its way through the destroyed shop window. The force of the impact sent shockwaves through the store, further bringing it ruin as snacks and merchandise exploded from their shelves in a mixed cascade of mask fragments, potato chips, soda pop, and glass.


» Character Intent: My intent for Ana is to be an anti-hero/antagonist type character. They lean more into antagonists as she will likely fall in with the more criminal elements of the setting. I don’t see her as immediately being a leader, but more like a sub-boss character. The intent is to also explore the moral dichotomy between herself and characters who might be more merciful and compassionate. Topping it all off with potential for a redemption arc later on down the road.
