Aina raised her eyebrow, curious about the depths of knowledge Ryoko had regarding relationships.

"Or maybe I just need a different food beside spoiled fruits."

Despite her snorting at Ryoko, her tone was pleasant and still filled with intrigue.

"My name's Aina, nice to meet ya."

With a casual wave, she tilted her head, her dark hair shifting slightly as her gaze lingered on Ryoko, studying her reaction. A spark of mischief flickered in her eyes as she prepared her next question.

"But what do you know of men?"

As she spat her question out to Ryoko, the words left her mouth almost carelessly, though the sharpness in her tone suggested it wasn’t a question to be taken lightly. Her eyes gleamed with interest as she leaned back slightly, waiting for Ryoko’s response to the unexpected challenge she'd just thrown into the conversation.

Ryoko’s eyes widened with a single blink as she observed Aina to see how serious that question was meant to be. She got the feeling that even though it was presented in jest, she actually wanted an answer. Calming down and smirking, Ryoko crossed her arms, mimicking Aina’s leaning back posture before answering.

“I’d say I know enough… Why? What is it you’re looking for with that question, Aina?”

Aina glanced back at the ocean waves, taking in the open seas as the sight of those pristine waters calmed her. She closed her eyes briefly, letting the salty breeze wash over her as she considered what, if anything, she truly expected from Ryoko’s answer.

"Just curiosity is all. Usually, people who say things like that have experience in those matters."

Opening her eyes, she noticed Ryoko was mirroring her body language and chuckled a bit.

"Rockin' body, powerful abilities, and ominous wording; I trust my gut enough to know you have experience.."

Her eyes lingered on Ryoko for a beat longer, her words hanging in the air as a mixture of curiosity and amusement danced across her expression.

Ryoko raised an eyebrow, a small smirk coming to her lips as she returned to her own casual stance. “I do have enough experience to say that even a few people’s foolish behavior does not reflect on the billions of others on this planet. I may be making a bit of an assumption here, but the ‘knight in shining armor’ comment hints to a certain mindset I no longer fall prey to. Too… early 2000s for me.”

Ryoko smirked and tilted her head to the side, her eyes narrowing playfully to clue in her own curiosity about this purple haired woman. "So, what kind of experience are you hiding behind those analytical eyes of yours, Aina?"

'She's so pretty... Too bad I don't color match...'

"Oh.....shit."

Aina muttered under her breath in disbelief when she heard Ryoko state that her previous comments were too early in the 2000s for her. The realization left her feeling slightly awkward, but she quickly shook it off.

"Eh, maybe that's a bit too cringe to say, but I do want someone to care me for as I would them."

Snorting playfully, she'd then add on her words further.

"I'm no gold-digging leech, don't mistake me, but it would be nice if there were a man that could hold me, keep me safe, and not fuck every hot piece of hot ass in a one-mile radius and stay committed to me."

Her words were raw, unfiltered, and she didn’t seem to care. There was no sense in holding back now. Turning back to Ryoko, her smirk grew wider, a teasing gleam flickering in her eyes.

“But as for what I’m hiding?”

she mused, her tone playful but with a hint of challenge.

“Well, is it really any worse than whatever you were hiding a second ago? You looked like you were about to jump out of your skin.”

Hearing Aina’s understandable desires for a partner, Ryoko nodded softly in agreement. “In a world where misery is more common than joy, you are going to get more degenerates. Morals die in the wake of darkness,” Ryoko said, eyes unfocused as she stared out over the ocean. Over a couple of seconds, a lot of darkness went through her mind, a darkness stained in red. Taking another breath, Ryoko brought her attention back to Aina, sighing heavily.

“You’re not far off, though,” Ryoko said. She wasn't one to talk about herself. If she could deflect or change the subject, she would. "Do you often find yourself in trouble? Enough to desire power to protect yourself?"

Aina remained quiet as heard Ryoko explain that the world was full of degenerates. While she wouldn't push it that far, there was al ot of ugliness in the world. Betrayal, death, lust, cheating, stealing; any sin you could think of was ripe for business. Part of her felt she was just being immature not to accept that reality, she rolled her shoulders.

"Yep! The world is a messed up place, but eh, maybe it’s better to just accept people as they come, like you said before. Otherwise, I’d be a total buzzkill."

While she said those more optimistic words, she could feel the darkness bleeding out of Ryoko's words, so she wasn't going to peer into her whole life story as she barely knew the woman. So, she'd share her glance toward the sea, taking another thoughtful silence to reflect on her troubles. When she was ready, she turned back to Ryoko and nodded.

"Yeah, I have a knack for finding trouble or trouble finds me."

She chuckled softly, but there was a note of resignation in her voice. After a pause, she continued.

"Honestly, I could use more power to protect myself. The world seems like it’s going to shit. You’ve seen the stuff going on, right? Am I wrong for wanting more strength to keep myself safe?"

Her gaze held a mixture of seriousness and uncertainty, seeking some form of validation from Ryoko, even if she wasn’t quite sure where she stood on the matter herself.

"No one can be wrong in that. The desire to keep yourself safe is innately human,” Ryoko said, tilting her head a little at Aina, as if this answer should have been obvious, though there was a hint of curiosity in Ryoko’s eyes too. “There isn’t much in this world I haven’t seen, not with these monsters roaming the planet with little to keep them under control. My worry, when I confronted you before, was whether your capabilities would carry you through the battle. There is no need to throw yourself into a battle you cannot handle… I have watched many die trying to take on more than they should… It’s sad, watching a life cut short by an impulsive edge...”

"If I may pose a question," Ryoko said, her tone more serious than before. She wanted an honest answer. "If a more powerful hollow had appeared here today, would you have fallen back, or would you have taken cover?"

"If a more powerful hollow appeared, I'd assess the situation obviously."

Aina didn't think twice about her answer as it was pure instinct.

"Each situation is different, and if it became something I couldn't handle, I'd have no issues falling back or taking cover."

Closing her eyes, Aina would then exhale and begin to mull over things further when it came to the future of things. She was beginning to grow tired of being at the mercy of others, so her plum eyes would open again.

"But overall,"

As she started to speak, her voice became more thoughtful as her gaze hardened.

"This conversation just reinforces that I need to get stronger soon. Sometimes, the battle finds you even when you're living a peaceful life. And when that happens... what do you do if you can’t defend yourself? Just die even when you are minding your own business?"

The question hung in the air, a reflection of her growing frustration with her own limitations and the realization that strength, whether she liked it or not, was essential.

Ryoko could understand this woman’s frustration, but she did wonder about those moments of peace offered to those that had no power, that had no responsibility to defend others. While they could have moments of terror as hollow surfaced, they got to go back to enjoying themselves on the beach, to cooking a meal at home, enjoying a television show, or playing with their children.

Ryoko let Aina’s question hang in the air for a few seconds, contemplating her own thoughts on it. “Well, you do what they did,” Ryoko said, looking over to a group of people that were resettling their towels and umbrellas to enjoy the rest of the day. “You hide, rely on those who are willing to do it for you, and then you move on,” Ryoko explained. “If I had gotten one, that would have been my choice.”
