Eight Divided by Two [Kanae, Rangiku]

CAPTAIN NAGOSHI KANAE

At least this woman was smart enough to pull her hand away from the snake pit, mused Kanae. She watched in silence as the Vice Captain stood and released her Zanpakuto, its blade turning into a cloud of dust or ash, she couldn't tell which. Would it turn into solid objects to strike her, choke her, or could its real power lie elsewhere? She would find out, but Kanae had no intention of suffering any of these fates to do so.

"Tsk. Shinigami are so quick to release their Zanpakuto these days." She wasn't wrong either, this was no simple attempt at taunting Rangiku. Besides her bout with Murasaki, during which neither released, all of her other duels and spars quickly turned into a game of one-upmanship with Shikai and even Bankai. There was very little feeling out opponents or measuring their skills. Though she was never a fan of battle that wasn't entirely one-sided, Kanae did acknowledge there was an amount of respect and tradition missing from modern combat, not that she believed much in either.

Seeing the wave of ash aimed for her, Kanae deftly Flash Stepped forward and to the side, then began sprinting at her foe, cutting the gap between the two into nothing in a flash. And then, she was gone, as if she had never been there in the first place. She left no sound, no gust of wind, nothing in her wake; but as quickly as she had gone, Kanae returned to the world a dozen feet behind Rangiku.

"Hanya Jincho-ryu: Sazaeta." In a blink of an eye Kanae showered Rangiku in a deluge of slashes, totaling near two dozen individual strikes, each as powerful as the last.

As soon as she saw the woman disappear in a flash step she would go on the defensive. Swinging her hilt in an arc. The dust coming up directly in front of her to hopefully defend from a few of thr attacks that Kanae was throwing her way. She was attempting to atleast soften the blow a little bit as the woman would vanish. Thankfully by the time she had vanished some of the ash had gotten in front of rangiku as she would see the ash begin to be cut into. Several slashes get into the ash as Rangiku would try to take a few steps, but she wasn't fast enough.

Along her right side thin cuts would appear on her right side as she winced in pain. She realized she probably made a mistake but she was going to have to live with it. Instead of thinking of that she would allow the adrenaline that was pumping through her venes she would rush forward and attempt to punch her. Swinjng as hard as she could, and she would try to ready herself to block an attack. She was going to attempt to use what she's good at. After the punch she would swing the blade at the right to attempt to predict where she was going to dodge.

Sazaeta was a terrifying technique that had often been used by Kanae to butcher, at times, entire groups of enemies. Unfortunately, since being released from prison she had precious few opportunities to really let loose with it, and even now she was, through gritted teeth, holding back from using it to its limits. Tosatsusha resented being used like this, unable to really sink his blade into victims; but he understood Kanae wouldn't risk reprisal just to let a little bit of steam off.

Violet eyes watched Rangiku, observing her every movement and breath and bead of sweat. Kanae stood in silence, her sword hidden in its sheath on her hip, her right hand floating just half an inch from its handle. She was a statue, a cold, unfeeling predator just out of sight behind the brush, yet fully visible for all to see. No words escaped her lips yet the intent behind her blade was obvious to her challenger and the entire Fourth Division, bloodthirsty malevolence poured off her. The fierce warriors of the Fourth felt shivers up their spine, every hair on their body standing on end as if a beast were lurking in the shadows and they did not know where.

When Rangiku cocked back her fist and rushed forward, Kanae bent at the knees and took a ready stance. She stood, waiting...and waiting...and waiting...until finally she drew her Zanpakuto in a flash and slashed through the air lightning-quick, aiming to split Rangiku's punching arm in half from knuckle to elbow. She sought to fill the air with a fountain of crimson and bloodied screams.

Rangiku would have made sure than her hakuda was hardening her defenses but even then she felt the blade back contact in between one of her knuckles. Digging in pretty deep as crimson would begin to roll down the blade, but Rangiku would leave it for just a moment as she would attempt to slam a kick into the woman's hands holding the sword. However she would pull her hand back trying to back up after the kick.

If she was able to do so she would back up a few feet as blood would drip down splashing onto the floor. The blood beginning to pull under her hand as she debated leaving now. Had she not bolstered her defenses her arm would be split in two. Maybe she wasn't ready for training with the 4th or maybe she just didn't want to. The cuts from earlier were bleeding to as the ash she had collected would quickly return around her as she thought.

Her thoughts pretty much all leading her to conceding the duel. It wasn't worth being bed ridden for the next few days if she kept this fight up. She didn't want to end up in the hospital for an extended period of time as she thought to those she had been training. Like Ranma, and what would her concern mean if she got herself sent to the hospital off of biting off more than she can chew.

"I concede, thank you for the spar. Captain Nagoshi. I wouldn't be much help as a shinigami for the foreseeable future if we continued."

Allowing her shikai to form back into her blade she would slide it into her sheath as she waited to be dismissed by the captain. The blood still pulling her sash and wrapping her hand with it to prevent herself from bleeding anymore on the training floor.

Stopping herself from cleaving through Rangiku's arm in its entirety, Kanae did nothing to prevent the latter from kicking her hand away, her blood-coated sword no longer lodged in its target. She gripped her Zanpakuto, fully prepared to go back on the offensive and shower the Vice Captain in another flurry of slashes, when her focus was interrupted by...a surrender?

Kanae stared at her challenger in silence as she waved the proverbial white flag. Was that all it took to defeat the Eighth Squad, a little booboo..? What would happen in the field of battle, would the sight of blood be enough to turn their stomachs? Steam rose from Kanae's Zanpakuto as tiny drops of acid evaporated Rangiku's blood, returning its blade to an unblemished state.

Without giving Rangiku any indication of what she was thinking, Kanae placed her sword in its sheath, turned on her heels, and walked away in silence.

Rangiku wouldn't react any strong way. Once she would leave, the orange haired woman would turn and head to the hospital first. It wouldn't take the hospital long to patch her up, and she was thinking about how it would look if she went back to the 8th all cut up. Rangiku had made herself stop the fight as she didn't want to end up in the hospital for an extended period of time. She also didn't want to end up with a missing arm so she would sigh as she walked out the barracks.


Once she made it to the hospital she would take a seat in the waiting room. Her injuries weren't extreme so she wait patiently for the nurses to be done. A little but of kaido would fix her up quickly and she did get a little bit of training with Kanae..In a real fight she would have been screwed so she knows she needs to ger stronger. For the people she cares about.
