Battlefield Report [Kanae, Murasaki]

"I understand well your disdain for your predecessors, Kagayaku no Murasaki. Your apparent hatred for those who paved the way for everyone alive and in power today. They were less civilized, more barbaric even, and violent than what's commonly accepted these days. All of that is true."

It was the slow and insidious transformation from these things into peacefulness that caused Kanae's breakdown, and the eventual murder of Danjirou. But saying this would surely result in consequences she wasn't currently prepared, or wanting, to deal with. Instead, she decided to go a different route, one that would humanize herself to this woman.

"The Gotei was all those things in the past, though I cannot help but wonder if you have ever asked why. Do you know what the Outer Rukongai looked like fifteen hundred years ago? Many of the founding Captains came from there, we grew up in horrific violence that would make any modern Shinigami's skin crawl, not a moment passed where any of us were safe. Unlike today, there was nobody to police the Rukongai either. The only military groups existed solely to protect the interests of Nobles in the Seireitei." Though she spoke as she usually did, with a veneer, thin though it may be, of forced civility, Kanae couldn't help but to show her true self, one of malevolent hatred and rage, show through as she said the word Nobles.

"I won't bore you with the details of how the Gotei Thirteen actually came to be, I am sure you were educated on it. It's easy to read words on a scroll or in a book, isn't it? All you need to know about the past at your finger tips...though I wonder how well they can convey what's felt as you wake up to your home laid to waste, your neighbors flattened beneath rubble, and your subordinates butchered by invaders."

The forced, practically inhuman smile on Kanae's face was replaced by a more serious look that emphasized what came to follow "You may disagree with our methods, but it was through the brutality of violence and war that the Soul Society as you know it was forged. It was "thugs" who took a damaged, pitiable Soul Society and through might created a peace that lasted a thousand years. I suggest considering all ideas, all points of view, in these troubled times Kagayaku no Murasaki, lest you wilt from arrogance."
