Heart Of The Dōjō [Meninas, Mura] - Page 2 Empty Re: Heart Of The Dōjō [Meninas, Mura]

Mura’s palm made pretty good impact with her gauntlets, even making Meninas rock a few meters back. He didn’t expect his palm to leave such a harsh blow, but his training with the Tibetan monks had left behind inner strength he wasn’t aware of until now. Hand-to-hand combat without a sword… something that drove Kyūken mad. “BUT WHY THOUGH?! YOU SCREWED UP, MURA! Wait, wait, let me bring you your sword- wait, can I even do that?” Kyūken wondered, fearful that Mura had thrown the match the moment his bamboo sword shattered.

Kyūken was too proud of his martial art, his fighting style, to let it be performed on such a sub-par level as what he witnessed from Mura. Reminiscent of his living days in the field, causing wide vortexes of slashes to blow all of his enemies away- Kyūken had at least hoped that Mura would slam more than one wind scythe at her. If he needed Harukami, he could probably find it back in the basement again… but Mura was different. He wasn’t Kyūken – he was proud of his skill with the sword, yes, but it wasn’t everything, was it? The more he hung out with Kyūken, the clearer that fact became – the latter ghost was being rather unnerving in that regard, and it resulted in many arguments between them. But if his sword would break in the midst of combat… then the likes of Kyūken would just be done. Dead. The ghost was adamant that a master would never break his sword, but times had changed, and even greater powers were looming on the Earth. Being so close-minded wouldn’t do him any good.

So for now, Mura fought Meninas in any way he could – no holds barred, just as the school and this dojo dictated. Even with one arm, he could deal with her rapid jabs, sliding them to the sides and only receiving slight hits on his sides. It allowed him to feel up her gauntlets, too – those were solid as stone, but they also looked cracked, as if his previous strike had been capable of breaking them. It made him throw a confident grin at her as well, knowing that his offensive approach did bear fruit.

In the midst of their swift exchange of blows, the Head Master was baffled at the show. “W-W-Wha- but your sword… w-wait, we can’t give him another one! That’s not honorable at all, guys!” the Head Master warned a couple Niten students who were coming back with spare bamboo swords, “Let him do his thing! I’m eager to see what China’s taught him… and the lady’s Western fighting style is such a great contender! Let’s see whose fists are mightier!” In spite of the fact that this dojo and school focused on dual swordsmanship, the Head Master wasn’t stubborn – in technicality, Mura was displaying the results of what the old man had sent him to China to obtain to begin with. Further experience.

The weight of her gauntlets were still pushing him back, in spite of the damage they’d received. His haori was falling apart, and his bones and muscles were beginning to ache from even partially tanking her ferocious punches. I really can't let myself take a single, direct hit from her like this... she punches like a damn rifle, he feared. He had a strike in store for her, but it required quite an opening – something that Meninas wouldn’t give him for free. When her Reiryoku began gathering in her gauntlet once more, he feared that she was going for a point-blank blast just as moments earlier – at this range, he couldn’t evade like before.

And those red veins… she had showcased blue and red lines on her form before, so instead of moving away, he awaited her clenched fist. Energy gathered in his right arm too, and it looked for a moment as if he was trying to match her destructive attack with one of his own – that was, until he moved his hand below her incoming fist and its inevitable blast at rapid speed brought by Fa Jin! C’mon! Just in time, he prayed, swiping his hand upwards like a spring. His intent was to slap her gauntlet upwards, thus also redirecting the blast upwards.

MENINAS MCALLON

It was a well timed counter and Meninas felt her right arm being directed straight upwards, the blast from her attack rising high into the air and making a rather large hole in the ceiling. A creative move on his part although the damage to the scenery would be enough to show just what a direct hit might have done. There’d been no holding back there and yet he had managed to find a way to handle her blow. Yet, she was not disheartened just yet and since he was awfully close to her, it allowed Meninas to tap into another martial art of hers.

The pink haired Sternritter would slip around the back of her opponent, using her Quincy abilities to briefly give her a boost of speed. It wasn’t anything as extravagant as a Shinigami flash step but would help her briefly to move quicker. It might have seemed an odd position for her to put herself in but as she tried to wrap her arms around his waist, the reasoning for her doing so would become quite apparent. As solid a wrestler as she was a striker, Meninas was going to try and throw her opponent to the mat, trying to bring the contest to a more ground based format.

Mura was good all right but how would he handle a different style of combat?

The hole being made in the ceiling… yeah, that was quite a hefty cost, and a chunk of the administration’s pockets too. Regardless, twice had she used that spirit blast technique – she appeared to release it from gathering in her fist, instead of using that gathered Reishi to amplify her already powerful punches. Mura only knew how to channel Reishi through his limbs and Harukami – he hadn’t tried releasing it out as solid, bright energy akin to her gauntlets and her energy blasts.

Glass and brick debris rained down on the arena, and people spotted the blast even from far outside of the dojo. The Head Master was bewildered at the destruction that took hold of this duel, but the other students were enamored with the prowess showcased by this pink-haired wrestler from the Vandenreich. This was beyond mere strength-enhancing Spiritual Manipulation – this was utilizing one’s spirit as ammunition! Aww, that roof’s gonna make a vacancy in my pocket… the Head Master grieved the loss of the fancy roof he’d installed high above the indoor arena – despite the vast space the combatants had, he didn’t expect any of this from any visitor.

Mura’s guard was circumvented with her sudden explosive speed, a step method she performed before he could redirect his arm to perform a quick jab at her open self. Instead, her arms found their way around his waist, and he rapidly struck the arms with his palm to try and free himself, but it didn’t stop her from launching him to the mat below akin to a German suplex.

There’s… my chance!

She proved to have been faster than he thought with that previous maneuver, but trying to harm him by using the mat and floor as a weapon wouldn’t deal as much damage as she’d thought. Still, his waist and hips felt as if she’d squeezed them dry of flesh and tissue – those red veins on her did some sort of number on him, that was certain now! But what did the blue veins do, then?

Blue… when he landed the first hit on her. Strength boost? Maybe.

Red? When she attacked… strength boost? Wait, so they did the same thing? Argh, no matter what – whenever those veins popped up, she was doing something, alright?!

If anything, the impact brought back memories of his duel against the Head Master himself – that little hut in the woods took one hell of a beating from their exchange of blows, but it further made Mura confident in his resistance from collateral damage. Even if she got stronger from the veins, the mat itself wouldn’t do a lot of damage to him.

He quickly lifted himself up with his hand and rolled away from Meninas, leaving behind a clear hole in the ground caused by his upper body being used as a hammer by the super-powered wrestling champion of the Vandenreich. Didn’t think I’d withstand that, eh? he tried to assume her thoughts at first, moving up close with his legwork and then… unexpectedly gently pointing a flat palm towards her stomach. One of the most famous techniques from the Tibetan monks was the ability to land a heavy punch even from a ridiculously short range – his palm was a mere single inch away from her, and yet his Reishi exploded, sending his clenched fist straight towards her center.

MENINAS MCALLON

That palm strike didn’t tickle and Meninas found herself skidding backwards across the mat again as she was struck. It was a powerful blow and had been at such a short range that Meninas hadn’t been able to switch her Blut in time to defend herself. It’d stung all right and there was a noticeable burn where he’d hit her. Painful for sure but the Sternritter was made of strong stuff and she was able to push it aside without too much trouble. He sure knew how to use his gifts to the maximum and even without the use of both arms, he was formidable enough to have earned her respect.

He was a fair bit more chatty than her but Meninas didn’t mind that too much. It wasn’t as if he was rude or anything so she was willing to just remain silent and focus on the spar. She’d then decide to try a different technique and with a slight manipulation of the energy around her, Meninas would take off into the air, surfing around the dojo as though she was riding a surfboard. It was about the best she could do in terms of movement abilities at that stage. It did, however, give her some space and she’d take the chance to summon her bow, its colour perfectly matching her gauntlets, before firing off a few arrows towards her opponent. There was nothing special about her weapon, as she hadn’t yet mastered it but she was accurate enough to give him something to think about.

Heart Of The Dōjō [Meninas, Mura] - Page 2 Empty Re: Heart Of The Dōjō [Meninas, Mura]

His one-inch punch landed squarely, and he felt himself quite rejuvenated from the space he made between them. Maybe he did punch harder than he swung a sword… but he wouldn’t admit that in front of Kyūken. That was a disaster in the making.

Either way, he’d dealt some real damage to her now – after she recovered, Meninas blew his mind all over the mat floor, as well as causing over half of the audience to gasp as she… flew around the fucking arena. The masses could barely recognize the surfing aspect of her technique, she was actually just riding the air to them!!! “… MASTER! HOW COME YOU NEVER TAUGHT US ANY OF THAT?!” Mura had to protest in the midst of it all, receiving a quick, surprised response from the old dojo head, “I-I don’t know how to do that! Don’t look at me!”

Ah, screw it all. If anything, if Mura could leap such long distances with the help of manipulating his Reiryoku, then… he guessed that something such as flight or hovering would be possible, too. He wanted to get a win for the dojo, regardless – for their pride, and for his own. But in spite of his vitality, he’d endured some good hits from her, and he was running out of tricks…

… Oh shit, arrows! She could also spawn a bow and arrows with just her Reishi?! Okay, these Vandenreich guys really were efficient – then again, every person he’d met after fucking up in China had been nothing short of amazing. Akira’s blinding speed and healing powers, Veralia’s unforgiving flames, and now Meninas’ playdoh weapons-crafting.

He’d taken an arrow to the shoulder before he even noticed the aching pain running down his inexistent left arm. His damn fault for losing focus in a time like this – aww, Kyūken was going to chew him out for it – but Mura wasn’t such a fragile guy. Immediately triggered to move, he leapt to the side and moving almost in sync with Meninas, grabbing and yanking the Reishi arrow off his shoulder with droplets of blood tainting his haori. Even when he’d almost taken a lethal wound there, he showed no signs of stopping… but all he could do was get up and close – he had no means of attacking her from a long range.

DAMN IT! IF IT’S ALL REISHI, THEN I CAN, TOO! I JUST GOTTA TRY! I CAN AT LEAST TRY!

A last, desperate attempt at stepping into a territory he hadn’t touched before, Mura pointed his palm towards her, all five fingers spread out, and focused on what exactly he desired to manifest… a sort of ‘blast’ of Reishi, an energy cannon of some sorts. Just something he could attack Meninas with from a range, akin to the punch energy blast she used like twice before. He knew how Reishi worked, right? Fa Jin allowed him to control its flow inside of his body, so if he just… forced it out-

!

Nothing launched out of his hand. Instead, his Reishi gathered at his palm, and he saw to grabbing an incoming arrow directly, right before the arrowhead could pierce him again. The arrow was hot, but he was more amazed by its solidness – it was like an actual, steel arrow in the making, and she manifested those just from her Reishi. Like laser beams and stuff.

“I’m borrowing this one!” he roared, continuing to slap the other arrows coming his way with one of her own. Quickly after, he turned the arrowhead 180 degrees and fired it off like a spear towards Meninas’ position.

MENINAS MCALLON

At least one of her arrows had struck him, giving the Sternritter a solid target for her to aim at. Yet, it didn’t seem to faze him all that much and soon enough, he came up with the idea of hurling one of her arrows back towards her. Eyebrows raised, Meninas had to compliment him on his reflexes but such things shouldn’t be said during combat, that could work until after. For now, she had something else to worry about and as she changed direction, she’d travel upwards, dodging the arrow that was hurled towards her.

It gave her pause for thought about whether she should keep firing at him though, assuming that his counter wasn’t a complete fluke and the pink haired warrior mused that maybe she should go back in close again. Yet, since she was already in motion, it seemed slightly daft not to take advantage while she could and so she instead raised her bow to fire at him again. Her target would be his injured spot, focusing all her power into one arrow rather than a flurry. It wasn’t something she’d tried before but felt it was worth a go.

The response from her bow was unexpected, beginning to shake in her arms, much to her bemusement but she held on tight and finally unleashed. To her amazement, rather than an arrow, she released a projectile version of her fist, travelling quickly towards her foe. That was new to her and she blinked in surprise. Was that the true ability of her bow?

How curious.

MURA EKASHIBA

It felt thrilling to wield her arrow, for some reason. Energy like that… it looked like she’d manifested her Reiryoku as some sort of solid light energy, something he was unable to do himself… even after trying it before. It felt a little more complex than just flexing one’s muscles, a little more intricate than just swinging a metal sword.

She responded by firing off another arrow, but even if she dodged the first one, if Mura was vigilant enough, he could try and grab this arrow too… really make her realize that he wouldn’t be hit by her arrows anymore. He already got a feel for it a moment earlier – his hand felt increasingly stronger and stronger with the more Reiryoku that poured through it. He wished that he could fire a sort of energy blast of his own at her, but without that ability, his long-range capabilities were compromised.

So he sharpened his eyes and watched her arrow trave- huh, it looked a bit wider than before-

*SLAM!*

Mura grabbed the arrow, but he’d made a grand error – it had some sort of boxing glove on its head and was, like, a couple inches longer! It punched him square in the cheek, turning his head almost 100 degrees back with a deep imprint. “T-… T-T-… T-…” he stuttered, tiptoeing back from her in order to recover his posture. He had ducks flying around his head, stars racing in orbit, and was a tidbit lightheaded from that surprising attack. Shockingly, he still held onto her arrow – at least, he succeeded in that.

“Mura! You’re open!”

“H-Huuuuuuuh…?”

MENINAS MCALLON

The effect of her new type of arrow surprised Meninas a little but the shock soon wore off, knowing that the time to strike was now. He was staggered and wide open, which was all she needed to know. For just a few moments, she forgot that she was in a spar, her mind reverting back to what her father had tried to instill in her. To fight without mercy and to make sure that when she struck, she struck with all her power, to never hold back. As his words reverberated around her mind, her spiritual energy would rise, her eyes blazing with power, motivated by what she was hearing.

Drawing back her bow again, she’d try and recall what she’d just done, in order to summon that fist shaped arrow. Meninas focused on her frustration at having to fight from distance, her desire to throw a punch and her wish to discover more about her bow. Her power had always been in her fists and it appeared that her bow now began to understand that. No matter where her target was, her fist would strike them, whether from short range or long.

Her bow began to shake again, energy building up fast as she pulled back the string, putting her full strength into the attack. The arms of the woman would turn red again as her Blut activated, increasing the strength which she pulled back even further. Meninas would not be timid this time and as she locked onto her target and fired, the arrow would sound like a rocket as it was hurtled toward her foe, taking on the shape of her fist again.

This time she was in control.

MURA EKASHIBA

Yeah, it was fun while it lasted. Ultimately, Meninas’ long-range capabilities – not to mention Mura’s handicap- no, not his arm, the fact he didn’t carry a sword anymore – and the sheer destructive force behind Meninas’ approach led to Mura getting gut-checked by another boxing arrow with more than twice the impact as before. Even the Head Master sweated profusely at the sight, almost intent to jump in and call the match off before his pupil got too hu-

Too late. Mura was dug across the mat floor like a sliding meteor hitting the earth, splinters traveling everywhere and causing the audience to step and fall back in fear. Too close for comfort. The Head Master quickly ran up to the poor swordsman and beckoned: “M-Mura! Mura, you there?!”

“Urgghhhh…”

Kyūken pinched his nose in disapproval at the sight, for technically, his martial art lost to Meninas. Damn the burdens on Mura’s shoulders, Kyūken’s stubbornness knew no bounds. “A damn bamboo sword… that’s on you.”

Slowly helped up on his feet again by the Head Master, people figured that the match was over… and began clapping. A shitton of marvel had unfolded inside of this dojo, props to the practitioners for setting this event up for them. “… Let’s congratulate her. She was incredible,” the Head Master suggested, helping Mura towards Meninas where he could properly bow and raise a palm in a half-prayer.

“S-Sorry… if I didn’t challenge you hard enough. Next time, I’ll be better,” he apologized, still half-hazed from the last attack.

It didn’t matter that he didn’t use Harukami here – if anything, it was a testament to his own cockiness. Safe to say, he underestimated her – even if just a little bit. She beat him.

MENINAS MCALLON

Nuts. She’d clearly overdone in that time and once Meninas saw Mura go down, the Sternritter snapped out of the battle ready mode that she’d gotten herself in. The pink haired woman actually started to feel bad about it after a few seconds passed and a look of concern crossed her features, he’d hit the mat pretty hard there and she hadn’t meant to hurt him that badly during the spar. It definitely seemed that there was more work for her to do when it came to telling the difference between a spar and a fight, one that today had brought to light.

Descending to the ground and coming to a graceful landing, Meninas would deactivate her bow and approach, bowing her head respectively as both the Headmaster and Mura congratulated her on her victory. Honestly, it didn’t feel like something to celebrate at that point and those large of hers would show nothing but concern for him. So much so that she’d wrap a large arm around him in order to help him stay on his feet, using her great strength to help him. They may have been opponents moments before but that was all said and done now.

”Are you all right?” She asked with genuine worry. ”I’m sorry that I hit you so hard there. I’d never used that technique before today and I got a little overexcited about using it. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
