Snow Miser, Fire Miser Sing-a-long (Shishiyuki/Elyss)
Fri Nov 24, 2023 9:14 am
Elyss Kishimoto | Red
"Shishiyuki. Come with me."
As casual as it came, it'd feel more like an order than a suggestion, but Shishiyuki wouldn't find herself able to question the command as it came. As quickly as the redhead flashed her presence before the Vice-Captain, she had left just the same. Already the situation is spotty, especially considering that Elyss had gave no word that she'd be returning. In fact, none would even know of her return outside of her Division and those who must, but there's no reason for worry in that regard. There are more important things to question.
Either way, Shishiyuki, after following after Elyss, would find herself on the training grounds of their Division, the area clear of life. She'd find Elyss there, hands in her pocket, eyes devoid of anything casual. If anything, the air proved thick and dangerous, a looming weight threatening to crush someone. However, Elyss didn't speak or address Shishiyuki, red eyes focused intently on something beyond the physical form.

"Certainly."
Shishiyuki wasn't one to question a command from her Captain, though not out of any intrinsic subservience. She lacked that rigidity of her significant other, after all. When she followed Elyss, it was out of respect, nothing more, and as she looked on the transparently looming presence that her captain exuded upon the training grounds, she simply waited patiently, arms crossed.
"A bout, then?"
The alternative, she supposed, was a conversation, but those two things weren't especially unrelated when it came to the two of them.

"What is Shunko?" Elyss asked, slowly removing her jacket before snapping it to the side.
Bandaged arms hid a story of harsh trainings, but who cared about Elyss' everyday doings. The redhead clearly didn't as she removed her shirt next, leaving her in but a sports bra. With actions alone, a messy battle is foretold. However, even as she bore her body, the dangers her taunt skin shared hinted enough at what's next.
"...Begin-"
Ground erupted, the Seireitei livid with the flex of Reiatsu alone. In mere seconds, Elyss met Shishiyuki. In mere seconds, fists flew. Words are shared in a multitude of ways. Lessons are taught in fashions one language could not handle. Bonds are forged through mettle and grit. From this bout, Elyss hopes Shishiyuki will prove as good of a teacher as she had in the Academy.

KOIZUMI SHISHIYUKI | FOUR-DEATH SNOW
As the question was asked, Shishiyuki's expression grew more serious, fully understanding the gravity of such mastery, particularly from her captain. She allowed the top half of her shihakusho to fall, tying it around her waist and leaving her torso covered only by the tightly-maintained sarashi that wound around it. Her body, scarred and worn from countless battles, was by now a sight many had seen. Idly, she considered that perhaps she ought to begin covering them once again, but just as quickly she returned her focus fully to the match she had found herself in.
Her own reiatsu clashed against her captain's as it burst outward, the vortex of spiritual pressure having only grown more refined as she had honed herself since their previous match. Her captain had asked for answers, and words were not half as meaningful without a demonstration to accompany them. Shishiyuki unleashed her shunko without a word, unconcerned with the extreme power that such a technique added to her every action. Elyss would not learn through coddling, after all.
"Hakuda is the reinforcement of the body through brief, momentary uses of one's reiryoku, in service of technique to optimize their efficiency."
No sooner had she spoken than her fist rocketed out multiple times in the blink of an eye, intend on not simply clashing against Elyss' blows but crushing them with the intensity of both her mastery of hakuda and the shearing power of her shunko. With each punch, watery reiryoku blasted forward like a jet. Each and every punch may as well have been two.
"Kido, by contrast, is the channeling of one's reiryoku into constructs, long-term effects which vary and carry with them much more mystical effects. Shunko is not so complex as one would imagine; it is utilization of the principles of kido, understanding of the maintenance and construction of such spells, and applying them to the nature of hakuda. A spell upon one's own body, to bring forward an enhanced form. The elemental nature of it is simply the reflection of one's basest nature."
Even as she delivered a flurry of blows that all could have turned a normal shinigami into little more than a fine red mist, Shishiyuki spoke with composure, confidence, the sort of voice that one expected from any master when speaking of their craft. This was who she was, after all; she would never think to fail in teaching a friend.

Elyss Kishimoto | Red
Her body hissed, bandages torn away as her fists revealed the multitude of bruises sketched on reddened skin. Each blow against her felt overwhelming, drowning out any attempt at a rebuttal. Elyss felt herself wonder if she could even swim, but any resistance to this torrential current wouldn't help as she found her offense forced defensive.
"Tch. Principles?"
Allowing one of those punches to send her flying back, Elyss found her footing in peril, her whole body already spent from their short exchange of words and fists. Though, it felt more like a lesson than anything else. All she could do was listen and try not to die, barely any room for anything she had to say to get through, but if Shunko is just that, then isn't she already on the path of unlocking it?
Red energy formed in the palm of her hands, the technique she had been practicing over and over again finally utilized against a real opponent. Shakkahō. Her voice barely called out the spell's name before she's charging Shishiyuki again. If she needs to utilize Hakuda and Kido at the same time, then her energy filled punches are a mimicry of what she's aiming for, but mimicking against a real opponent should help her understand this whole thing better.

KOIZUMI SHISHIYUKI | FOUR-DEATH SNOW
"Principles. Yes. Do you think shunko's complexity comes simply due to difficulty in its own right? Understanding of its composite parts is vital precisely because of that complexity."
Utilizing a shakkaho at the same moment as a blow was, Shishiyuki supposed, not completely dissimilar to what was being sought, but there was more to it than that. Her expression did not shift to one of approval or disapproval as she stepped forward to once again meet Elyss, but this time choosing not to simply clash against her fist.
"Conceptually, your idea is sound. But hakuda is not simply throwing blows, and shunko does not simply empower one's fists."
No sooner had she spoken than Shishiyuki rapidly turned her body and lowered her center of gravity, her shoulder and back now facing Elyss and intent on making the shakkaho-enhanced blow fly over and past her. At the same moment, the impact of her tetsuzanko was only further strengthened by her shunko, her back a veritable caldera of highly-pressurized water that would simply crush the woman in front of her.
Elyss was a near-indomitable force, that much Shishiyuki was willing to concede. But her thousand years of mastery had not made her so weak as to allow even an immovable object to stand in her way without being worn down.

Then what the Hell do they do? What makes Shunko not as complex but harder to accomplish?
Elyss is little more than annoyed at the ease she's sent flying back then anything else. Beating Shishiyuki with raw strength isn't going to work. Elyss' Shinigami arts are clearly weaker, and the pressure of that Shunko is enough to strain her ability to take a hit. Getting wet also sucks.
"Construction, maintenance..., and body..."
She could try another spell, but that'll just end the same as before: her thrown back to the beginning with nothing accomplished. Looking at her hand, Elyss thought about things for a second, forcing her body to try and do what she's visualizing. If she focused on channeling her Reiryoku, let the energy build in her arm, but then focus on maintaining it there instead of casting a spell...
Though, her inexperience brought her sudden pain, as she found her control lacking. Forced to grab her forearm, her teeth gritted as she kept forcing her energy and body to interact ignoring her own discomfort. Too much energy flowed through her arm which she'd then try to reel back, but that fizzle out what she's trying to do, making her reattempt to funnel her own energy again, repeating the same cycle of too hot and too cold that made her attempt unbearable to sustain.
However, her stubbornness prevailed as her arm seemed to start burning a bit, the constant movement of energy generating a large amount of heat. As if trying to escape her body, despite her attempts to keep it in control, her Reiryoku poured out of her pours like an engines exhaust, seemingly burning her skin and turning it black.

KOIZUMI SHISHIYUKI | FOUR-DEATH SNOW
Shishiyuki took a breath inward as she returned to a more centered stance, hands one more at the ready as she watched Elyss prepare herself. She was at least learning, but it was rather obvious that her intention was on a smaller area than was the purpose of shunko. The vice captain stepped forward, hand drawn up above her hand as water shot from her hand like a jet, the impending downward slice far more akin to a blade than a mere chop.
"Think. If shunko filled only your arm, your fist, the moment of use, why would it always be marked by these wings bursting from one's center of mass?"
It was, of course, because shunko was a full-body effort. Utilizing it demanded the entire body be working perfectly in tandem, and that was why it was such an extreme effort on one's behalf. Shishiyuki's hand cut downward, fully intent on doing whatever damage might be caused if her captain didn't defend. The two of them weren't the sort of women who held back in moments of importance; it would be disrespectful for her to do so now.

Eh?
Elyss pulled her arm up, blocking the sickle of water heading her way, but with her arm already strained, the liquid blade sunk deep. Then the rest of her body felt pain, like cold steel digging through her being. Feeling split, a thin trail of blood suddenly sprouting along her body, Elyss took a knee. Half her vision went bloody as the spliced part of her face bled and dripped to the ground. Any energy she had started to take control of had left, leaving her arm splotchy and bloody.
"I don't fucking know... I'm trying..."
Ugh. Her lip is cut, making every word drip and taste like iron. But, resilient as always, Elyss rose. She'd rather not eat another attack like that, but Shishiyuki's lesson is cutting right through her, and she hasn't figured out how to deal with it yet. That's just the difference between her and the others. They all have more than themselves at their fists at their disposal, and that fact is why she has to suffer to somehow reach that next level.
"I can't just make it listen. It only knows how to go one way when I need it to."

"Then you have two paths before you, captain. Either you train until it listens, or you take a different road. Operate using what your energy does naturally. There is nothing wrong with ignoring orthodoxy for the sake of oneself."
That was a lesson Shishiyuki had taken more than a thousand years to learn, and she would not let someone else fall into such an error if she could help it. She didn't continue the bout just yet, simply watching to see what her superior chose, how she replied. Despite her inaction, Shishiyuki was obviously tensed and ready to continue the bout at a moment's notice.
"So? What will you do?"
