Psychological Analysis
Wellgunde can be best described in a single word as “overbearing.” She treats everyone with a kind smile and a warm affection, but is so forward in her insistence of being helpful that it comes across quite transparently as neediness rather than kindness. While she is all too happy to provide her friends and allies with whatever they might ask of her, Wellgunde is always quite visibly saddened when her attentions are declined, and will typically ask if the intended recipient is sure they don’t want her help or attention.RELATIONSHIPS
○ Klein: Her darling, who showed her a new life filled with attention. She would do anything for him as thanks, and considers all of his friends and underlings to be thoroughly dear to her by extension.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Wellgunde’s history is a long one, and of all the Arrancar who work under Klein, she is by far the oldest. She spent centuries as a Hollow that at one point terrorized no small portion of Hueco Mundo's endless desert, living under the sands and simply consuming whatever weaker creatures came into her domain. It was only when Sosuke Aizen took over Hueco Mundo that she was dragged into service, her mask forcibly removed as she was pressed into her role as a Numeros. She served well enough, and had she been so inclined, she might even have had some potential to be among those earliest incarnations of the Espada. However, the woman who would one day be known as Wellgunde didn't care about that. Rather, she seemed overeager in her desire to help others, pushing them along and offering them assistance and training to a degree that most would find offputting. For her, it was simply a way of drawing them close, of finding affection however necessary.
In the wake of Aizen's fall, however, she found herself once again without anyone to rely upon her. She wandered, seeking out those she could perhaps nurture, but her presence was sufficient to crush many of the Hollows she would have tried to bring up. It was only upon meeting the Arrancar called Klein that she found one who not only tolerated her presence, but actively enjoyed it, and that was all she needed to stay at his side, to work for him and do whatever it was that she could for him. However, there was still a distance between the two of them that she tried desperately to close, only to be told something that struck to the very depths of her core;
"There's just so much about you that I don't know."
Was that all? That wasn't something that mattered to her. Nothing about her mattered if it wasn't something Klein knew, after all. So she willingly gave herself over to him, offering to be whatever and whoever he wanted if it meant that she could be that much closer to him.
So it was that she, in many respects, died, and was reborn as Wellgunde. Memories of her life before were erased, her body and form modified extensively to suit Klein's purposes and tastes. Most would have assuredly thought of such a thing as some sort of prison, a horrid existence, but Wellgunde seems to take pride in knowing how totally she has given herself over to him.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
○ Rhinemaiden: The title of Rhinemaiden is not simply a cute name that Klein gives to his prettiest underlings. Rather, the status of Rhinemaiden is a drastic modification made to Wellgunde (and any other Rhinemaiden) which turns them into a well of reiryoku. Their spiritual reserves, compared to other entities, are fairly high, and such a degree of energy would likely be enough to crush the average person under the weight of its pressure if it were contained in a normal Arrancar.
The purpose of this modification, however, is not necessarily for her own usage, but rather to assist Klein as necessary The Rhinemaiden’s stores of reiryoku can be released from their body in a consistent and manageable flow, in a form called Weihwasser that Klein is able to easily draw into his own body. This process relies on a highly modified version of the typical reishi vents in any spiritual entity’s body, as well as on physical contact between Klein and the Rhinemaiden. While these vents are significantly removed from their usual place on the body, anyone who knows Klein well can likely find them, and in theory could also be given Weihwasser from a willing Rhinemaiden if Klein allowed it.
Wellgunde, in particular, is the Rhinemaiden designed to spend the most time on the frontlines, to offer assistance to those Klein deems allies and to be able to fight on her own. Because of this, her stores of Weihwasser are quite decidedly the largest of any Rhinemaiden’s, and rather than operating solely as a vessel for storage and distribution of this energy, she is capable of using it for her own purposes in battle, like any typical Arrancar.
○ Brunnhilde: As she is designed to maintain battlefield supremacy, Wellgunde has been modified with a reinforced, permanent version of Klein’s own Walküre technique. Her hierro functions not simply as a defensive shell, but in many ways could be considered closer to a spiritual form of powered armor. So long as Brunnhilde is not killed or knocked unconscious, she is able to force her body to move precisely as she intends, regardless of the severity of her wounds.
○ Kalterfisch: While many would consider Sonido as an art to be one of high-speed movement, Wellgunde’s mastery over it has led to her developing what could only be called “low-speed movement.” Even if she is not moving particularly far, or particularly quickly, Wellgunde can still make each step quite purposeful, an application of sonido that makes tracking her extremely difficult. Even at the pace of a leisurely stroll, Wellgunde is capable of making each step mask her presence until her foot hits the ground again. In a battle, this means that she is nothing short of a terror to maintain awareness of, as every time her foot leaves the ground to reposition, she is yet again disappearing from both sight and spiritual presence. Only those with Focus, Speed, or a racial movement skill equal to or higher than her Sonido are capable of keeping awareness of her battlefield steps.
○ Grätigerfisch: A technique which requires fairly intensive skill in sonido, as well as a developed knowledge of one’s own hierro. Grätigerfisch is a technique which involves, in effect, “throwing” one’s hierro by way of the speed of one’s step, allowing a shell of Wellgunde’s reiryoku to stop well beyond where Wellgunde herself does. This allows one to create the illusion of having dashed past the opponent, when in fact, one may well be taking an incredibly short step. Because the step itself need not be long, someone such as Wellgunde, who is well-practiced in the technique, can often throw upwards of a dozen false selves toward her opponent without moving much more than a few feet.
○ Wogenschwall: A highly intense form of sonido, Wogenschwall functions by utilizing the one’s hierro in a similar manner to a solid-fuel rocket booster, detonating it in a directed manner in order to achieve explosive movement. This explosion not only creates a sonido far faster and far more sudden than would normally be possible, but naturally also creates a fairly major danger to anyone in the immediate vicinity of Wellgunde when she uses this technique. Naturally, detonating one’s own hierro in such a manner has the significant downside of leaving one without the hierro around their legs, and as such this can only be used once before leaving her legs without any hierro for a post.
ZANPAKUTO
○ Zanpakuto Name: Ostra (握殻独房, "Clasping Shell Isolation Cell")
○ Zanpakuto Appearance: Wellgunde’s zanpakuto takes the form of an exceedingly long polearm, to the point that most would probably find it unreasonable to use. Wellgunde, however, is quite adept with it.
○ Sealed Abilities: When sealed, Ostra allows Wellgunde to form “pools” of water with a stab of her zanpakuto. If stabbed into a solid surface, these “pools” will look like a small circular puddle of no particular depth, though the pools will remain in place regardless of what it might seem they should do according to the laws of gravity. These pools can also be formed mid-air, though in this case, they will be shaped more akin to “bubbles.” She may form up to 5 of these “pools” at any one time, and can form 1 pool per post.
If Wellgunde touches one of her “pools,” she may teleport herself from that pool to any of the other pools. This consumes both pools, meaning she cannot utilize them again. Additionally, if an opponent touches one of these pools, Wellgunde may attempt to relocate them to another of the pools. Those with a Speed or racial movement skill higher than Wellgunde’s Nucleo skill are capable of simply stepping away before the teleportation affects them. If Wellgunde moves far enough away from a pool that it is no longer within the scope of her SC’s area of influence, it will dissipate immediately.
RESURRECCION
○ Release: “Snap, Ostra.”
○ Appearance:
○ Abilities: Upon entering into her resurreccion, Wellgunde's hollow powers are brought to the forefront. Her domain of water, space, and her aspect of death are all revealed in their full form. Rather than relocation, as she demonstrates in her sealed form, it finds its roots in trapping the target within her clutches.
Through her hands she is able to generate a "pool" and launch it to float anywhere in her surroundings, firing it off akin to a bala with a set travel distance. Rather than allow for relocation though, should a target come into contact with the pool of water - whether she's pressured them into it or they've made an error in judgment - it will wrap around them and harden. This functions as a prison, requiring an individual to have remarkable means to overpower their bindings, whether that comes in the form of power that is of greater potency than her own, spiritual or physical, or the intervention of another individual.
These pools are not just for entrapment purposes, but derived from her original hollow power where after the fighting is completed, or if there is a window of opportunity, she is able to place her hands on each side of the pool and compress the victim down to the size of a pearl. This process can outright kill a normal human but a spiritual entity would likely survive this initial process as it is altering the space within the pool of water.
Wellgunde may then store the pearl inside of her hollow hole, where the target is consumed as if eaten by a typical hollow, a peculiar form of execution to give her a momentary feeling where two souls are intimately connected and neither experiences the feeling of abandonment.
