First Division Ferocity! [Kei/Igen]
Sun Aug 06, 2023 3:03 am
KEI SAIONJI
This whole provisional third seat thing thankfully did not have Kei and Igen sharing an office. Although Igen was a pleasant person to be around, Kei did not think she could stand doing paperwork with him around. His energy was... distracting to say the least. This also meant that she would have to track him down for this. Thankfully, the sight of the almost-familiar big cat showed Kei where he would be. As luck would have it, it was in the same destination as her ultimate goal.
"Igendai—how good to see you." Kei called out once she spotted the pink-haired man's figure. She didn't bother with pleasantries on how he was or anything like that. Kei got straight to the point. "Do you remember when we first met, how you had expressed an interest in learning more Kidō skills?" Whether or not he remembered wasn't an issue. Hell, she might be remembering wrong. "Well, with the recent happenings, I'd like to make sure my combat skills aren't dulling. I have a bad feeling about what all is going on. I'm feeling the same tension that happened during the Winter War... Anyway, enough depressing talk. How about a friendly spar? If nothing else, knowing what one another can do will help with combat strategies."

IT wasn't hard to find Ko skulking around, of course it depended on if you recognized whatever form she had chosen to waltz around in, but Kei had been lucky and wound up spotting Ko on one of her idle strolls through the division. The tiger not seeming to pay the tag-along much mind, and just like clockwork, the co-third seat would find herself led straight to Igen's Office.
And of course, once she barged in, she'd find the young man jolting slightly, a soft "Buh." Escaping him as he was jarred from his nap. Something he'd found himself needing to do a bit more often these days. Between the work down on earth at the Africa pit. Keeping up with operations in the City of Lights. And of course, checking in on the Sixth Division to ensure that they had everything they need to proceed with their investigations. It had been an eventful span of time, and so Igen had somewhat....deferred some of his sleep schedule. He would stay up a bit later to check up on the officers in their division. Not quite paperwork, but mostly just management. Ensuring that everything was running smoothly, that no issues got lost between divisions or teams, and of course, sorting out any issues or errors that accrued over the course of the day. Double checking on incomplete reports, reviewing the inspections and obligations that came with the reconstruction that was going on.
On one hand, he was moving things around a bit. But well, he didn't allow his work to suffer. Rather he instead cut into his training time a bit. He could have cut a bit into his own personal time, which he certaiinly had a fair ammount. But he still needed to make sure he had time for ...ahem. Rio. And certainly, now that they were dating, he found himself needing the extra rest a lot more than he needed downtime. They had been on...two dates now? And frankly, it had been exhausting, but in a good way!
So when Kei suddenly barged into his office, there was something of a dazed look on his features as he bolted upright.
"Uh.. oh. Third Seat Saionji. You uh.... oh alright." He blinked a few times as she went straight into why she was here. Kido help? Oh yea he supposed he HAD asked for that hadn't he. He rubbed his eyes for a few seconds and looked at his phone, checking the time. Well, he only lost like, half an hour of his nap. That should be fine. "A ...friendly spar? That sounds good! Just uh, buh... uhhhh.. Ko are you good for a spar?" He asked his Zanpaku'to, which promptly gave a little rumble. Prompting a smile on Igen's face.
"Ko says she's good, so sounds like we're all set! Uh, got a place in mind?" He asked with a yawn, sloooowly standing up and stretching that slim, lanky body of his as he stood up to his full height, a little tension before he lowered his arms.

KEI SAIONJI
Kei was slightly worried about her co-third-seat after seeing his state. Middle of the day and almost-asleep? Maybe this wasn't the best time. But, as her brother would say "The enemy doesn't wait for you to be wide-awake and with a full stomach." ...or something like that. It was one of those lessons she kind-of just let go in one ear and out the other. "I feel like the Division's training grounds would suffice." There was a bit of small-talk on the way there—not much, as Kei wanted Igen to focus in a bit more before the spar.
Once they arrived, Kei began stretching. "Are there any restrictions you want? So long as we don't go for the head, I don't have any preferences." Kei simply didn't want to have to completely redo her hair—or risk serious accidental injury. After getting his restrictions—if any—she reached into her sleeve and produced a slim, purple rod. She seemed to focus on it. Irritation grew on her face. "It's been a while since I've pulled her out. She's just moody." With a mild shake, the pole extended and a blade rotated out much like a pocketknife. Kei's Zanpakutō's natural shape was not a katana, but a far more feminine naginata.
"What I've heard about most of the Kidō prodigies nowadays is that they go beyond the rules and standards—they break them." Kei swung her Zanpakutō around, giving it a few test swings before letting it rest near her side. "I find that crude. Kidō is an art, and freeform art can only take you so far before it becomes its own category. I find ones who make do within the boundaries of the artform to be far more worthy of praise. So I may not provide as much of a unique experience as some of the Second Division members, but I do hope that you learn something from this." Kei raised one hand. "Begin at your leisure."

Igen smiled a bit and chuckled at the comment in regards to restrictions and the like. "Well if you're worried about getting Rusty, that's mostly up to you. I don't mind getting a little serious if need be." He chimed with a warm smile, rolling his shoulders a little as they arrived at the training grounds themselves. A nice spacious clearing. There was of course the area with practice dummies and the like, but there were also a number of set-aside clearings. Wide open spaces with plenty of room to buffer between a spar and the nearby structures. Not to mention a few shinigami nearby who could put up barriers if need be.
Still, he raised his brows. A little intrigued as he noticed the production of what he presumed was her...zanpaku'to? His head canting a bit to the side as he eyed the purple rod. Ah, so her zan was a bigger sword. Interesting. "Oh wow that's pretty cool. She folds up and stuff. Never seen a Zanpaku'to like that." He chuckled, pausing for a moment as he considered her opinion on Kido. "I guess I never really thought about it like that. The rules weren't exactly something I thought a lot about when I learned Kido." He mused, holding his hand out as Ko's tigress form promptly dissolved, leaving behind her stripes which lashed out and locked onto Igen's frame, snaking across his skin and slowly covering him in those dark stripes as he talked. Turning to his fellow Third seat, he offered a warm smile.
"Then again, most of my Experience when I first learned kido was with Kaido, so I guess I don't exactly have the best foundation when it comes to knowing the limits." He chuckled, and sighed, rolling his shoulders. "Aaanywho, alright! We're both set. Let's get this party started!" He chimed, that big, bright smile of his in evidence as he promptly sped towards her. A sudden and aggressive closing of the distance between them, ducking as he brought his shoulder to bear and aimed to thrust into the center of the woman's chest with enough force to throw her across the training field. Sharp and simple.

KEI SAIONJI
Kei thought she was prepared for the initial strike. She was expecting a punch or kick. Standard things for hand-to-hand fighters. She wasn't expecting to get shoulder-checked like an NFL player. The incantation-less Seki she cast was incomplete by the time Igen collided with her. It didn't send Igen flying like she hoped it would, but did push both away from one another. "My, you are quick." Kei adjusted her stance.
"When I was in the Kidōshū, there were two schools of thought on how to deal with an opponent who favored close-quarters-combat. Let me demonstrate the first." Kei began levitating. Rippling puffs of dust from the training ground floor rose at regular intervals beneath her. With her free hand, she began tracking Igen's movements. "Byakurai." She would repeat the spell up to three times if Igen attempted to dodge. Her aim was slightly off. Although it may hit him—which, of course, was the goal—if it did miss, it would likely land in front of him—keeping Igen at a distance.

Seki.
Though she'd skipped the incantation he DID perk up when the words left her mouth unleashing the spell. And as that force connected, his shoulder slammed into the energy she'd used to protect herself and the pair of them pulled back from eachother, skidding along the ground for a few feet before he chuckled softly and flashed a big smile. "Nice reflexes!" He chimed, raising his arms for a moment and tilting his head as she collected energy at her fingertip. Oh? The thunder of a Byakurai lancing toward him certainly caught his attention. But he didn't dodge, and rather he lowered his stance, and crouched ever so slightly. Eyes glowing as reiryoku pumped through his frame.
Koōmetsubō 虎王滅亡 (Tiger King Collapse)
Those black stripes coiled along his body, moving away from his frame and bunching up along his right arm as he raised his hand and then STRUCK downward, his hand and arm turned black like raw iron as that dark mess of blade-like lines erupted from his palm and slashed downward, clamming into the incoming Byakurai and splitting the Kido into twin lines that crackled along the ground, a blistering feat of Hakuda and Zanjutsu. As the rest of that slash lunged forward at blinding speed, streaking FAR faster than Igen himself would have been able to move, aiming to cleave the ground between them as that flurry of black blades aimed to cut along the woman's left side. But of course, those blades were dulled, the young man intentionally loosening his spiritual pressure so that even if those blades lanced down her body, they would at most rip her uniform, but would not be able to do more than scratch her. Though those blades at most only extended a full 10 meters from his body, if she decided to try and back away from the incoming strike.
All the same, following the strike, those stripes would rapidly retract, returning to Igen's body and spreading out along his frame as if to reset. Though there wasn't any shift. Kei might have noticed that even though those stripes had wrapped around Igen's frame, and even came into use, that there had been no change in his spiritual pressure. As if he had never released to begin with, despite obviously being in his released state.
"I think I have an idea for the Second School of though.Would that be using Bakudo to hold me in place?" He ventured, adjusting his stance as if preparing for her to throw out one such spell at him. That smile never faltering. Clearly the young man was very much enjoying getting to see his fellow officer in action.

KEI SAIONJI
If there was one thing that Kei realized, it was that she had underestimated Igendai. She'd have to take this more seriously than the weak single-digit spells she had been slinging. But that schooling would come soon. Right now, it was time to defend. Kei let loose two more Byakurai at the incoming attacks, destroying—or at least diverting—the two that would most likely make contact. It was a narrow miss, and she had to take a moment to realign herself. The regular puffing of air beneath her stopped and she was back on the ground.
"Your Zanpakutō is fairly interesting. I may have to release mine first if things keep going like this." As she hadn't noticed the increase in capabilities or change in Reiatsu common to Shikai releases, Kei had incorrectly assumed that this was just a sealed ability of Igendai's Zanpakutō. As Igendai made a guess at the 2nd school of thought, Kei smiled. "Most people think that."
Kei began the incantation to a Kidō—it had to have been a weak one, but certain words were missing. But from such a distance, it would likely miss. That's why Kei introduced Igen to the second school of thought. With a sudden Shunpō, Kei was mere inches front of Igendai—her first two left fingers pointed at him at almost chest-level. "Shō." She had specifically chosen this one so as not to harm him. The whole point of the spell was to push the target away. What was odd was the removal of words within the incantation. Although clearly not as strong as the full incantation, it wasn't as weak as neglecting the incantation entirely.
"The second school of thought is to get to a range where your opponent cannot dodge. It's riskier, but most people expect the Kidō specialists to fight in the back." Kei popped her neck in a very unladylike fashion and let out a sigh. "The use of Bakudō to restrain isn't a school of thought, but rather the means to a goal. I could stand back and rain Hyapporankan on you, or I can get close and pin you immediately with Shitotsu Sansen. It all depends on how much risk you wish to take."

As those quick Byakurai fired out into the incoming blades, Kei might be surprised to find the utter lack of compromise from them. Those blades ripping through the incoming spells and hardly even losing any momentum as they surged at high speeds and slashed, not even a hint of damage showing on those black extensions. Those blades plowing through the spells with ease, aiming to snare the Third seat.
All the same, as Kei realigned herself, Igen raised his brows and tilted his head. First? "Ahah, I'm already released actually. I think I spoke with you before. My Shikai is always active." He pointed out with a bit of a proud smile on his face. Though as the woman suddenly flashed in with a Shunpo, he raised his brows, and in the very same motion that she pointed her finger toward his chest, black blades erupted from his chest, aiming to slam into her wrist and elbow from opposite sides as that spell connected with his chest. But Igen didn't skid, as that force hit him, the ground beneath him crunched softly, but he was....obnoxiously sturdy, even without those dark stripes protecting him. Even so, the Explanation caused him to raise his brows in intrigue. "Huh, I guess that can catch them off guard." He noted, reaching up to rub the spot where the spell had impacted before flashing a lopsided grin towards her. Not seeming at all bothered by the cracking of their neck.
"Still, I guess it makes sense that you're a Kido specialist and all, but do you have any hand to hand skill?" He ventured with a tilt of his head, a hand resting on his hip as he let his head tilt a bit to the side, brushing a bit of dirt off his bare shoulder and back.

KEI SAIONJI
Already released? That... explained quite a bit now. She'd have to up her game if things continued. But he had "requested" a demonstration of the second school of thought. Who was she to deny such a request? Well, to be fair, it was more that he needed schooling and she was the best tutor right now. Anyone else might try to confuse him with some newfangled method of casting. This was just easier to teach with.
Kei was surprised that Igen didn't move with her next attack. It also frustrated her. She was supposed to be teaching him something! She kept the same smile and backed away from Igen further, using Kaidō to help her now-sprained wrist. "Truly, no. It's not my strong suit, and I don't plan on getting much better at it. Honestly, I may have high skill in Kidō, but my skill lies less in direct combat and more in the realm of defenses and traps. Barriers are what I excel at... but they take much longer to prepare."
Kei moved near to the edge. "So I've been hitting you with some lower-level spells, but I think I have been underestimating you. I do apologize for that, and what's about to come next." Kei began chanting. The two chants did not flow together well, and anyone with proper Kidō knowledge would know it was a twofold incantation. She held one hand out to her side, and the other, holding her Zanpakutō, was brought close to her chest, her knuckles still pointing towards Igen. "Hyapporankan."
The single rod of Hyapporankan appeared with the end of one chant. She threw it upwards where it soon began to rain around Igen. The second incantation was not one that Igen would recognize. This was Kei's own Kidō—a spell based around the Arrancar Bala and Haien. "Ryūseigun." Kei kept her feet planted as dozens upon dozens of golf ball-sized spheres of Reiryoku shot out with incredible velocity. That wasn't the scary part of this Kidō. It just didn't stop. For every second she kept the fire up, she was moved back about half an inch. Her aim with the Hyapporankan also became apparent. She had clearly not aimed at Igen—she had aimed around him. He would have two choices—charge through the storm of igniting balls of energy or risk getting impaled with Hyapporankan.

Igen blinked a bit at that and raised his head slightly as he made note of her response, eyes shifting to her wrist for a moment before then glancing back toward her. A soft smile forming across his lips as a chuckle left his throat. "Oh you don't have to apologize. I'm still having fun and learning!" He pointed out, before pausing as he realized that she was performing a layered chant. His expression contorting for a moment before growing suddenly tense. A sudden burst of energy coursing through him as he spotted that sudden barrage. His pupils dilating just ever so slightly at the incoming swarm of attacks. And in that moment, he promptly vanished, a sudden blur of motion as he sped to the side, shooting out of the path of those staves of reiryoku and weaving through those explosive bursts of burning energy, several crackling off his frame, those black stripes twisting to stab into the incoming balls, causing them to explode before contact, but still not sparing him the scorching heat.
Still he shot around that barrage, and then closed in, rushing toward the woman and then ljeaping up and into the air. Several holes burned into his shihakusho, though she'd note that there didn't seem to be a scratch on him. And the most recent burns, light scorches, seemed to be vanishing from his frame just as quickly as they had been put there. A preemptive KAido from Igen. His very own Jinjashō. Pumping energy into his body to automatically heal the instant that damage was dealt. He was already incredibly durable on his own, and his Zanpaku'to further added to that. That ontop of his skill in kaido? He was QUITe difficult to take down!
"But if holding back could be taken as an insult, I don't wanna disappoint you either."
And as he closed the distance between himself and Kei, he cocked his arm back, as bright pink flames coursed around his frame. Or at least what looked like flames. But in actuality, was pure reiryoku tinted with Igen's own personal element. One that caused a sudden, vicious drop in tamperature. The grass around them suddenly going rigid as it froze on the spot. That sudden gush of pink energy flooded forward, aiming to freeze Kei to the ground with that burst of pink Ice.
And just like that that howling shroud was gone. A brief, short-term release of Shunko before her executed a STRONG kick to the center of the woman's chest. Nothing devastating, as he had intentionally turned of Shunko before striking, after all he didn't want to hurt her. But it would be just enough to knock the wind out of the woman. shatter the ice that had formed along her lower body, presuming she hadn't protected herself from it, and send her flying into the nearest wall. Of course, for a Seated officer, it wouldn't be too terrifying, a bit of winding, and perhaps a bruise on her sternum. But nothing that would seriously injure someone of Kei's level. After all, this was just a friendly spar!
