An Independent Investigation
Ichigo was... missing? What? That didn't make any sense at all. How the hell was Ichigo, a neigh unstoppable individual, just missing? Fuu let out a soft sigh "Aye if he vanished awhile ago then the two are unlikely to be related... though that isn't to say this wouldn't of happened even had he been around. Still it is concerning that he just disappeared." She shook her head, so little of all of this made any kind of sense. "Has anyone been in, and subsequently returned from, the inside of the hole that you know of? If so was there anything else they could report about it? What other organizations are looking into the hole and have the Shinigami crossed paths or blades directly with them?"
Fuu had a reasonable suspicion as to the answer the man might have for her, but truth be told she wanted to get all the information that she possibly could before making any assumptions. The Gotei's strongest asset was missing, presumably dead and... well if that were the case there was only one other place she could think of that he might be, and it wasn't somewhere she could get to let alone wanted to get too. "And, apologies if this comes off as rude, but if this is an all hands on deck situation, what reason do the Taicho's have for NOT showing up? Are they that afraid of what might be down there?" She didn't WANT to imply that the Gotei United Taicho's seemed weak compared to the Gotei 13's but... well, if they weren't going then by all accounts they must be, since to her knowledge the Gotei 13 would've sent at least one Taicho if only to survey the scene and help keep the peace.

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
The Unrefined Paragon
The case of Ichigo was indeed hard to believe. Ichigio Kurosaki was a man held in high esteem in the history books of Shino. When it came to examples of what it meant to be a Shinigami in the line of duty; the hero of the Soul Society was THE example in his long history of duty. Such a man simply earned respect; and even though Tento had no connection to him. No battle earned string due to being on the same field countless times. No personal friendship that made people brothers and sisters in kinship. However, Tento had the tales written in the books. Of arrivals in dire times of need, of solemn stands against fate and perilous challenges. Issues that seemed to only crumble under his presence. As great that was, that was not why Tento appreciated this man. His heart. His tenacity. His drive to stand with and for his friends; to protect them and the people around them. THAT, was what Tento thought when he heard the name Ichigo Kurosaki. That...was why he had such a high level of respect for a figure he never met. It was the type of man believed in in his core. The type of human, he drove himself into attempting to be.
With such a man's character and famed power. It was deeply hard to believe the whispered words he had heard. Unknown disappearance suddenly. No response or real sight known after, or at least reported. It was...hard that none of his friends or close allies had some idea. There was little doubt in his mind that he suddenly died after all. "Yeah. Safe to say it would have still happened. No one knew this was going to happen after all. The panic and dash to respond would have still occurred and shocked Africa. Better outcome, but still". Even then when he thought about it. How long would it have taken Ichigo to arrive? Where was that guy even hanging out at before his disappearance??? Such a thing was suspicious and unnerving. And, although no reports of a battle involving Ichigo were had, thus giving majority creditability and likelihood that he was alive, but perhaps limited in availability the biggest footnote in people's minds. It did not stop the speculating thoughts.
Tento stretched his arms up, moving his chest out with a few pops and a soft grunt all before dropping them back over his chest. Hands nested comfortable in between his arm sleeves. "As best that I know. No one has been in it of yet. There priority and actions done have be observation of the hole, elimination of hollows, rescue of civilians, and attempts of establishing safety zones for survivors to live in. With this being a war really, security of stability and research of our enemies comes more than simply going in head first", he said with nod. "Although, IF anyone went in....there has been no reports of them yet given out. Which can mean it simply hasn't been attempted yet or...", he let that dark thought end there. Swiftly, he moved on. "There has been a joint effort. A string of combination with the local and national defensive forces of Africa of course. Beyond that, there have been operations alongside the Vandenreich. Cooperation with each and no conflict so far. Well, unless you count the Hollows".
Tento had said that withhis same old same old laidback expression and voice. Welcoming and helpful. However, at Fuu's next question Tento's face grew a slight scowl. His brows closing in on each other. His nose crinkling and his voice coming a little heavier. The disrespect..., "The Captains. Follow the orders of the Captain Commander. Officers of that level need to be used wisely. Information gathering and discretion, realm moral, order enforcement, combat. Covert operation and Earth's stability. Each division play a role in this, and each Captain has to command their troops to play their role as best as they can. Sometimes, leaders need to speak. Not fight. Guide. And not be seen. NO. Shinigami of the Gotei United allows fear to stop their line of duty. It is dishonorable to our past, and the superior strength we have cultivated up to now. As you must know if you been around long enough to know Ichigo and Aizen. Rushing in, WILL cause death and further lost. Mistakes. And when an entire continent has that happen to it, being rash. Is unacceptable", Tento said with a bit of a stern oomph to his vocal cords. His hands falling to the side now as he finished. "Besides....general high ranking seat officers now a-days have power equal to Vice Captains and some even Captains. Bankai, has become more of a common thing as well as vastly developed shikai. Not only that, with further knowledge of hoho, hakudo, kido, and martial skill...". Perhaps she did not want to imply this thought, but it was what was practically thrown at his face with her words. To think the leaders of the Gotei United would fear Hollows...no one. Not those symbols of the organization. And most certainty not wen so many lives were on the line!

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
An Independent Investigation
Thoughts circulated through Fuurinji's mind, about where Ichigo could be... why nobody had heard anything, why nobody had gone looking, and most importantly, how he had even vanished. While a standard Shinigami going missing might be noted and put aside for a time, Ichigo was on the level of importance equal to Yamamoto himself. Every Shinigami knew of him, Every Shinigami was taught about him. Something that was simply overwhelmingly powerful must've happened, and it couldn't of have happened within the World of the Living nor Soul Society because that WOULD have been noticed of that she had absolutely no hesitation in saying was fact. That left but two places, Hueco Mundo and Hell, and the Gates of Hell only opened when a Zanpakuto cleansed a hollow that had been wicked in life... which meant Hueco Mundo was the only logical conclusion as to his location. So why hadn't anyone gone? It wasn't like Urahara couldn't send people there, he did it for Ichigo and the Captain's of the Gotei 13 had also gone there to fight Aizen's Arrancarr.
Alas, the Shinigami before her wouldn't likely have knowledge of how to directly access Hueco Mundo so it wasn't pertinent to bring up. Even so he began to explain how unlikely it was that anyone had actually entered the hole, much less come out, meaning no information on what exactly was inside the hole. Given the number of hollows that seemed to be appearing, there were only two conclusions that Fuurinji could come too. It was either somehow a portal into Hueco Mundo, or another Hollow similar to the one Aizen employed was down there spitting them out. Alas with nobody having entered the hole, it was impossible to know which was true if either of them was actually true. As for the defenses, it seemed pretty standard. Shinigami, Local Defense forces, Quincy, all cooper- "QUINCY!?" Her thoughts were instantly interrupted as her head turned upwards out of its contemplative stance and towards Tento "The hell are they doing there?!" Her entire demeanor and tone did an extremely fast shift, from questioning to almost pure anger. No, she couldn't let anger take the better of her. She took a quick but deep breath and let it out slowly to calm herself down, if they were with the Shinigami, at the very least she could hope they weren't doing what they used to do... or if they were, that the Shinigami would quickly stop them from doing so. She didn't have the full story.
But with that Tento himself was clearly getting a bit frustrated with her questioning, his response said as much. Speak and not fight? Guide and not be seen? She couldn't hide the fact that the one hand that rested near her right Zanpakuto tightened into a fist "Tch..." The corner of her mouth raised into a grimace, her teeth gritted together and she found his response all-together lacking. Tento justified the lack of a Captain because of improved general skills, Bankai's becoming more prevalent, and superior Shikai's to the past. But all of these things were merely products of that which would be required. After Aizen every Shinigami began to train, bankai's were already becoming more common within the Gotei 13 and improved general skills weren't something she thought were surprising in the least since such a thing was expected of all Shinigami. "The Gotei United truly are... lackluster. You think more common Bankai's means Captain's aren't required on the front lines? That more competent users of Hoho, Hakuda, and Kido means that a standard Shinigami needs no direct communication with their Captain's on the battlefield? Don't make me laugh."
Fuurinji turned away from Tento now, roughly in the direction of Karakura Town somewhere far off in the distance. "I was around when Ichigo and Aizen were at the heights of their power, aye, and Ichigo didn't let Aizen stop him. He went to Hueco Mundo, he challenged the Arrancarr directly, and he saved his friends. He didn't wait, but he didn't rush in recklessly. He was powerful and he knew it, he had the strength to save his friends and he knew it. The Gotei 13 hesitated and lost battles as a result, they allowed Aizen's power to grow and manifest and when they challenged him they lost. Do you see the difference, Shinigami? I do not speak as if your Taicho's are scared of a hollow, I speak like your Taicho's are scared of taking risks. Lives WILL be lost, regardless of your action or inaction. That hole appearing should be able to make you see that pretty fucking clearly, and now Ichigo isn't here to help us out apparently. We don't have the luxury of just sitting around and waiting, YOU don't have that luxury. So what if all of you have Bankai if, to this day, nobody has deigned to enter the hole? How can you expect to ever learn anything from something you know nothing about if you refuse to engage it? Aizen's power was a complete unknown, so he won every battle until Ichigo put him down. Not the Gotei 13, Ichigo. But it wasn't like he simply attacked Aizen on his own, no the Gotei was there to help him in full force. All of the Taicho's, not just the seated officers or the Fukutaicho's. We ensured that he had a chance at victory, and we accepted that there were going to HAVE to be losses. There is no way around such a thing. To claim otherwise is to claim ignorance. Ichigo shook the very foundation of Soul Society, he broke millennia long traditions because he refused to just let injustice survive and thrive. He made Sotaicho Yamamoto himself change his ways, a feat that no other individual could do."
Did she revere Ichigo? Of course. Did she revere Yamamoto? Absolutely. But she knew the consequences of inaction, she lived through it. "When the Quincy Massacre happened it was because of the Gotei took inaction against the Quincy's at first, hoping they'd see reason and stop trying to disrupt the balance. Their inaction caused thousands upon thousands of souls to be erased from existence. Aizen got away and grew in power and nearly defeated the entirety of the Gotei 13 by himself, because of their inaction. " Finally she turned back to Tento "Do you understand now, Shinigami? Your inaction is leading to far more chaos and death than if you sent someone down into that hole to gain intel. I'm sure you know of Mayuri, and I'm likewise sure that there's probably been someone else who has replaced him by now. Does that individual not have the same mental fortitude as him? For all your new found power, you still refuse to do what is required of a Shinigami. For all your new found techniques, you refuse to employ them. A Bankai is useless if you refuse to use it, and technique is lost when you do not put to practice that which you've learned. If anything, I'd say having bankai's so prevalent now has made the Gotei United more meek and fragile than the Gotei 13 ever was."

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
What Ichigo once was was not certainly a hero. A warrior. A defender. Heck, sometimes a motivator and light in the darkness. But, it seemed that his light had been snuffed out. No longer a Shinigami. No longer a Vizard. But a Hollow; An Arrancar. He was not the same man that he was before. Such shown in the details known far in the Gotei United about his attack on the Vanderbich and apparently kidnapping of personal. A bit fuzzy on the details but, it was former allies he took? Either way, he was there for some reason. And he caused quite a bit of noise. The situation really know by even the smallest members of the organizations in some detail. Heck, it was such a mess that even a decent number of the world of the living knew good parts. But everyone heard about it at least. Where he was was unknown. Concealing his power in the world of the living. Or in Hueco Mundo. But Tento had his guesses. So. This shingami before him. Not knowing iAzen was dead or what had become of Ichigo. Well. It was impractical and suspicious. Worrisome. Former Shinigami or hero or not. He was not that anymore. He had fallen. Despair and standard.
He blinked. Well that was quite a response to him mentioning Quincy! Her perplexed look and...question made him lift an eyebrow. He. Literally just said why they were there. "Cooperating. Ya know....rescuing people. Stabilizing resources and panic. Handling and defeating hollows", he said giving her a very much. What do you think? Look. Her responses just continued and continued to egg him. She was hearing him speak but it was like she was not listening. She was missing the point! "Lackluster? How can an organization who fighters harder, be lackluster? Stronger? Wiser? More united, as a team and not flawed induvial trying to play heros. More bankias and further developed shikias do mean that. Hoho, Zanjustu, kido, healing, team organization, team efficiency. Spirit. Heart. Mind, Body", he rattled off putting up a finger for each. "Each a part of a proper Shingami. General members. Seated officers. Vice Captains. Captains. Each are a voice of the Gotei UNITED. We are warriors that stand together and are were we are needed. A military. Soldiers. We do not need our leaders to hold our hands. Or constantly fight for us. Especially against Hollows who aren't beyond Menos level", he continued to speak. Hiss voice growing firmer and yet calmer. At this point it was as if this was just an philosophical debate. Facts, twisted in with a bit of feeling. "Are Captain level people wanted. Yes. Are they always needed? No. The Gotei United is more than one man".
"Ie ie yeah, you were around when Aizen and Ichigo were at their height. But. What did YOU do? You stood to the side. Because you were not deemed worthy to be fighting. A liability", Tento said with full on annoyance now back in his spirit. "A captain may not be on the field. Maybe not even a vice captain. But seated officers are. The chain of command is more than the head. Communication tools aren't as weak as all those years ago nor is common field leadership". He sighed. "And for all honesty. We don't. Need actions like he did back then. He did go to Hueco Mundo. He did challenge the Arrancarr directly, but HE did not save his friends. If you remember, his actions were only possible because many of his friends came. They planned to be trapped in Hueco Mundo. Powerful assets were severely injured and stuck there. And Captains had to be lost in accessibility because they had to go in and rescue him! Worked together and thought. Made their actions when they needed to AND got lucky. He knew he was powerful but he knew they were stronger! He was a desperate man that got held in the hand of fate. He didn't know he had the power to do it, life is not a fairy tale. He chose actions knowing the heavy likelihood of failure and death. He was reckless and he almost died. His friends almost died. CIVILIANS, almost died. They may have succeeded, but even then they still fell into Aizen's trap. We are not Ichigo. And Ichigo is not us. Ichigo is not a fallback. A guarantee. Nothing is".
"And you know what comes and came again and again and again with those types of actions? Risks. Riskks that harmed things far before they came good. Risks, when it comes to war and military. Do not. Cannot be done carilessly. They need to be judged and deemed worthy. Lives will be lost. But risk jumping into enemy hands will only multiply it. Inaction causes unnecessary lost. Risk causes glorified unnecessary loss. It's the same thing. A weak mind does nothing with a strong body. And a weak body holding a strong mind only causes a dirty. Ugly path that is not worthy of what we are supposed to be. Balance. Not fragile. Not meek. Not rash. And not slow".

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
An Independent Investigation
There he goes again, prattling on about how great the Gotei United are, what a pain. At each turn she waved her hand dismissively at his words "Firstly all of those things are things that all Shinigami have been taught within the academy, prattling on about working together or training better and acting like that is the end all be all and what makes you so great is pointless and makes you look more pathetic than you otherwise already are." She said, shaking her head and sighing softly "Secondly, I stood off to the side because I would legitimately only be in the way of those who could've actually fought. My being there would've caused them to have to hesitate and think about things other than the fight, so I CHOSE to stay out of it." She once more waved her hand dismissively and sighed.
"As for Ichigo, I do recall CORRECTLY that he saved his friends. Notice, however, that I do not specify he saved them ALONE, because to do so would be an impossibility. I also stated that he HAD the help of the Gotei 13 because they were forced into a decision, they were forced to go when they otherwise would've stayed placid and done nothing. He also was anything but desperate, Ichigo, unlike most, never gave into such base desires or wanton urges such as desperation, hell I'd argue such a word wasn't even in his vocabulary. Additionally, civilians die every single day as a result of the failure of Shinigami, that's just a fact of life. Shinigami are there to ATTEMPT to save them, our entire JOB is to purify hollows not save all civilians. Innocent humans die to the hands of more vile humans, do you go after them? No. You go after Hollows as is your duty as a Shinigami." Her tone was very much entirely dismissive at this point.
"Thirdly, Risks are apart of the fucking job. We have to take risks if we want to get anything actually done and not just chase around those that are far more than we are. As you just said, inaction causes unnecessary losses. The Gotei 13 many times did nothing and caused a lot to be lost in the process, but the Gotei 13 you speak of and the one that I speak of are extremely different. You seem to think I refer to the Gotei 13 as they were when Ichigo lived, but that isn't the case. To remind you, I speak of the Gotei 13 that slaughtered the Quincy for trying to disrupt the balance. Ichigo was so pivitol because the Gotei 13 you think I mean was weak and failed to ever even make an attempt at stopping Aizen in earnest until he had already achieved his goals. Your Gotei 'United' can have all the strength you think they have, but it still has yet to measure up to the Shinigami that stopped the Quincy from destroying the cycle. They refuse to go into the hole, yet the Gotei 13 I refer too would've already sent in troops to assess what might be down there. Your communication can improve all you like, it's doesn't matter when you don't use it. Lives MUST be lost during war, it's an inevitability of war. Shinigami are SOLDIERS., we fight and do battle every single day. To deny this is to deny your own existence." Fumiri scoffed and shook her head, folding her arms across her chest as she leaned to the side slightly.
"I refused to rejoin your organization after they were restarted because it wasn't the Gotei 13 I admire, that I wanted to join. The ones that protected my family from the Quincy's. They were scraps, remnants of what had once been a great and powerful military force. To believe that you can live your life free of any risk is to think this is some kind of fucking utopia, which it factually is NOT. If you wish to continue never taking risks, more people WILL die as a DIRECT result of YOUR organization's inactions. End of story."

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
Speak speak and speak some more! That was what Tento do when speaking to this outsider. Indeed she was a former Shingami, her uniform and spiritual pressure gave some credit to that at least. But, the ideas; meaningless in the end in the two of them. Were sharp contrasts that held a bit of fire sparking in this talk. New blood and Old.
The Gotei United was great. It had pride, successes, and endurances far beyond the scope of a living human or fresh soul. Even as a former Shingami...exiled? She should know and acknowledge that. They were soldiers of balance and protection of souls natural flow after all. Jaded and separated from the Gotei, this woman must have memories and believes of this still at least? Ugh....that freaking dismissive wave... I am trying to have a conversation with you, do NOT just wave it off like whatever, he thought as one of his eyebrows went up in a short jerk. He thought to himself. With a sigh that was also like a deep breath, he continued to listen to the steadily increasing annoyingly words that he found twisted in some mental layers of disrespect and ego.
"All of those things are indeed taught. But as I am sure that you remember from your time in Shino and active duty. Not all Shinigami are good at everything that is taught. And even more so not all were as competent and effective as they needed to be. Flawed, no disrespect by it. But the unseated officers of old do not compare to our modern was", he said thinking of the many people who were worthy of being Vice Captains by power, skill, and merit of track record. The average solider was leagues better than 1000 years ago. And that meant the upper echelons were even MORE out of comparison. With better skills, power, and more importantly techniques, teamwork and individual efficacy. A Captain was just not as often needed. And the results of how well they handled that opening chaos. Bad, but no where near as anyone with logical thinking could have expected from previous wars or generation. Could have been. The current generation of Gotei would soon be known as the BEST. Tento was sure of that. The passing of knowledge and the Gotei torch demanded so!
He sounded with a tch. Working together and training better was not the end all be all. Not what made them great. It made them be what they needed to be in this trying time. "What...did you just say? Pathetic?...", he said with a bit of weight. "Pathetic. Is being weak and useless to the point that you can only stand to the side and watch. Don't talk down to me. And do not disrespect the warriors that can fight and succeed when they are called to battle", he said point a finger dead on at Fuurinji".
Calm down. Tento's spirit quickly called out to him. He heard it, but he kept on. "Instead of accepting of being in the way. You should have done actions to be of use. A Gotei warrior is more than a fighter. Surveillance, research, rescue, escortion, healing. The Gotei is a machine that flows with many parts. EACH that needs to be moving, not crawling to a stall...Fuurinji ".
As fired up as he was right now he had to say she was right at some points. She didn't say he saved his friends alone. But with her dawning and fawning of the man it was like he was shinning light that everyone had to cry and beg for to handle any situation. That he could do anything and everything alone. "Yes the Gotei accepted his help. A hesitating thing at first because he was not a natural and trained Shinigami. Why must their duty be pushed onto his soldiers? He was just a teen. A boy. He should have been living his life and not being a warrior on the battlefield. He deserved a normal life. Whether he wanted it or not", Tento said with a small hint of sadness with his upfront layer of aggravation. If they did...maybe he would be different right now? He did laugh though. Ichigo, not desperate? He was everything in desperate. Desperate to save lives, desperate to protect his friends. Desperate to not feel weak. Desperate to control the power of his hollow and that fear. That man had desperation in everything that was equaled in determination. And he gave into that and despair when he became a hollow. If only... he didn't succumb. God, it was like looking in a mirror when talking about this guy...
"I am glad you are no longer a part of the Gotei", he said sharply. "If you hold no weight of knowing that lives can and will end. That it is a fact but as the Gotei we are to protect them and protect the balance of souls. Then you are no Shinigami. They die due to the failure of Shinigami, and that is why we must pursue the ideology to reduce that as much as possible. Relying on 8 people and not 80000 is nothing but a fool's way of thinking. Our JOB is not about just purifying hollows. At least not the lawful and good Gotei that has surpassed yours". He then gave a dismissive wave of his own. "Humans are human. Hollows and other creatures are my domain. The afterlife does not mix with the living. They have their own cops and investigators", he said in response to her very flawed statement. His tone firm and a bit done with her at this point. His Zan siggggghed.
"Risks are a part of the job. Dumb risks are not. What is more of a waste or chance to cause a terrible cripple to an army...Sending skilled soldiers resulting a number dying that is at most a moderate loss of soldiers. Or sending generals. Longest to cultivate, train, and have as foundation to structures. To unknown war areas head first into grave and dangerous places where they are likely die or be crippled due to haste and a lack of preparation?? That. Would only further any pain caused", Tento said coldly. "Doing that. Is chasing more than we are, the previous is chasing what is in reach. Not unnecessary losses. NOT, the same".
Hmmmm. So she was speaking even more further back than Ichigio and in his friends beginning in their connection with the Soul Society eh? "I thought you were referring to the Gotei 13 as they were when Ichigo lived, because that is what you been on since the start. The Gotei before the Gotei of now. You carry on the 'honor' of slaughtering the Quincy before if you wish. Needed as it was but like you said. Their inaction and failure caused that needed action to happen in the first place. The fact that you discredit the current Gotei and the people in just because of time or grandiose event is immature. And insightful of its speaker. You forget world world 4 and that mess. Balance protected by the Gotei United. Lives. Society. Delay is not refusal. And I am not some elite member nor are you. If such operations were going on, we would have no disclosure yet. Rushing to die when it isn't needed", he scoffed and gave her a sharp look. If such a thing was possible it would be like he was looking and speaking to her soul. "Worthless". Just words of an outsider that knows not what she speaks.
He did have a spark of interest though. "Protected your family?". Hmmmm? What was this!

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
An Independent Investigation
It was like the past and present colliding, torrential forces never meant to connect yet here they were doing exactly that. An unstoppable force meeting an immoveable object as some might say, their ideals so starkly contrasted that it was something of a small miracle they hadn't already actually clashed with blades. Yet every word each spoke seemed only as if it were going to inevitably bring them together in a heated clash of more than just simply words. Perhaps to an outside observer their argument might simply seem like a pointless one, though they would likely be seriously wrong.
But, at least at first, his words made little sense, comparing those he'd never met before to those of his time. Though she was guilty of the same of course, having never sparred against any of the new Gotei United. But for Fuurinji that mattered little, she knew what the Gotei she admired was capable of... she'd seen and experienced it first hand. The track record of the Gotei 13 that came before him was spotty, it was weak and shallow. It was why they relied on Ichigo so heavily, and why she admired Ichigo more than them. Of course she admired Komamura as well, a kind yet powerful and unwavering soul unlike some within that very organization.
However his snapback at her comment of pathetic had her right hand immediately grab the hilt of her Zanpakuto and squeeze, her face twisting rather swiftly into a grimace of anger. "YOU THINK I JUST ACCEPTED IT?! THAT I CRAWLED TO A STALL AND LET MYSELF STAY THERE!?" This wasn't like Fuurinji normally, but like most she was easy to succumb to her emotions when challenged directly like this. "Your kind have no idea what the Seventh was like, what our duties were, what we could and did accomplish. But that's why your Gotei has changed, because it didn't understand. There were few even back then that could understand. Not that I'd expect someone like you to know that." She snapped. "And that boy, as you call him, was more of a Shinigami than most, was willing to do that which everyone else was adamantly AFRAID to do! That they REFUSED to do!"
"I know better than most that live now-a-days what hesitation and inaction cost, I'd wager I likely have experienced it far more times than you can count. You think I am no Shinigami, because of what? That I believe having the strongest of our kind be wiling to do that which no other is capable of? Just because they MIGHT be crippled or heavens for fucking bid die?! I have seen humans that surpass Shinigami in both strength and skill, yet you see them as nothing more than humans that should stay outta the way. You think their cops can handle that which happens in this world? Have you paid NO attention to how many of them are incapable of handling themselves!?"
She scoffed, turning her back to the man. By now her knuckles on the hand that gripped her Zanpakuto were as white as they could possibly get as she listened to him speak, speak as if she forgot tragedies. Who in their right mind could forget such events when they lived through them? It would be insane to do so at best and at worse? Ineptitude.
"Delay and hesitation go hand in hand, if you do not hesitate there is no delay. If you do not delay, there is no hesitation. Doing either means lives that shouldn't have been lost, are lost. Doing either means those that would have otherwise had entirely peaceful existences can never know such a thing. It turns otherwise innocent souls into victims of monsters that would rather see everything around them obliterated just because they CAN'T FOLLOW THE RULES!"
She took one long, deep breath before she spoke again. "The hesitation of the Gotei 13 to strike down those that would disrupt the balance cost the lives of friends and family that you never even knew once existed because all you Shinigami are the fucking same. Protectors of the Rukongai yet never there when it matters, protectors of the World of the Living yet always hesitating and delaying your actions because you fear someone might fucking die as a result of YOUR actions and never what your INACTION costs. We'll NEVER know and NEVER can know if what happened here could've been avoided, because we don't know what even fucking caused it to happen in the first place. The answers could be down there, but we'll never fucking know because those self proclaimed 'Gods of Death' are so god damn afraid of dying as if it wasn't apart of the fucking job. A god damn human cop has more willingness to die than a fucking god of it does. You're right, I wasn't useful when I was in the Gotei 13 when it came to fighting Aizen, but there weren't very fucking many that would've been capable of killing such a creature. You're right when you say our job isn't just about purifying hollows. But you fail to grasp the simplest of concepts, those that refuse to obey the ones in charge of the protection of the entirety of this reality do not deserve to dictate who lives and dies. We know this to be true because the Quincy's attempted it, and what happened to them? They were warned a single time to stop what they were doing because of the consequences, and yet they refused. So without mercy the war was brought, many hollows were obliterated that shouldn't have because they were offered a warning and given time to 'consider'. Tell me, 'Shinigami', have you ever lost someone because of that? Have you ever had your mother erased from the cycle because those ignorant bastards decided they wanted to challenge those that defended reality? I guarantee you haven't. You don't know the first thing about what it means to protect the souls that you're charged with. The Shinigami, the real Shinigami that defended the cycle died long ago, long before some of their actual deaths even. Because those Shinigami were the ones that protected my family when those damned Quincy sought to destroy it, and had it not been for them the Quincy would've ended all of our precious reality."
Fuurinji turned her head half back towards Tento and, in an eerily calm voice spoke once more "You say I am no Shinigami? Then allow me to explain to you as clearly as I can what I am speaking of, to ensure I leave you with no questions or wonderment about what I am. The Shinigami I speak of saved my family from the Quincy, I nearly lost my own life, my Sister, and my Father to them. But they ensured we lived, yet I will never again hear my Mother's voice, She cannot be reborn into the cycle. Because their artifacts remain and killed my Mother, erasing her from the cycle and resigning her innocent soul to oblivion. I am not afraid of death, 'Shinigami', for there is no death truer than the ones the Quincy deal in. You think that sending your strongest and best into dangerous situations is worthless and only serves to risk their lives, so what of it? Shinigami means God of Death, No death is worse than one at the hands of a Quincy for only their death ensures you will never know peace. Who better suited for the most dangerous situations than the most powerful among us? If they cannot prevail in such a situation then why bother even fighting against it? Why bother combating it and not just allowing it to take us? You send your best not because there is a risk of death, but because there is a risk that should they fail we have no hope. You do not send in the foot soldiers because their deaths ARE the meaningless ones. Their deaths serve no purpose other than to ensure the situation requires stronger and stronger Shinigami. The unknown deserves respect, and the only proper respect to be given to a powerful unknown is the most powerful of us. When we annihilated the Quincy for disrupting the balance we did so with unrelenting and overwhelming power and we didn't simply send the foot soldiers. We sent those that we knew would get the job done or ensure we would prevail. The hole is a threat, the hollows pouring from it are more powerful than the hollows that emerge from Hueco Mundo. That means it is a massive threat, that means it isn't something for an ordinary grunt like you or me. That means we would only be in the way. So you send in the best, because that's what they're here for. Ensuring that those we cannot deal with, can be dealt with."

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
Past and present. Both spearheaded by two stubborn individuals. Ideals may be different, but the harsh fires that threatened to create smoke where the two stood. It was a wonder how they haven't come to blows yet. Tento was more than happy to see the skill of this unaffiliated Shinigami. As well as to see if he could change her view of the current standard of the Gotei United Soul Reapers. But as enjoyable that could potentially be. He kinda wanted to focus on the larger task at hand. Who this person was, what value they could give or take in this time, and if they should be trusted or suspected. The fact she did not know so many public pieces of information or details, one who was once a part of the Gotei 13, was concerning. A fact that made Tento wonder if their identity and claims were true.
Should he bring her in for questioning? Should he have this interaction end with talking and delve into researching and affirming her military record? Try to see if there were any people still active or around that could vouch for her? Forgetful as could be if this was true. Fuurinji was sure a pain to talk to though! Such an annoyance to have an overabundance of obsession with the Gotei of old. Of Ichigo. It felt…shameful. Weak. Cloudy.
Words were edgy and tense, easy to flip perhaps with words to start action. A fact that happened as soon as her hand grabbed the hilt of her Zanpakuto, Tento's hand immediately went to grab his own. A soft swell of his energy stirring at the smell of contest and emotion. All from that little word hmmm? "I think what I think. The fact is you didn't fight. And yet you mock the ones that do. You may understand it, have been a part of it. But you are no warrior. No defender. No Shinigami. Just an audience on the sidelines. One that left because she hated change, small change. Change that was needed in time. An eternal system moves with eternal time. A stopped Geer doesn't turn. And an unadativpive Gotei fails to keep the cycle balanced and protect the world of the living. LIKE, you pointed out with inaction about the Quincy all those years ago". Tento said with a calm fierceness. Not stepping back one bit.
He laughed then. "My kind? What are you, a being beyond a Shinigami? Do not think better than you are. You are the same as everyone else. Nothing more nothing less. I can't believe a veteran of the Gotei 13 would act like this and talk like this. Disgraceful", it was true. It felt like such a…mockery. More and more he found it hard to believe that she was a former Shinigami. Former member of the Gotei 13. Your kind. Ha, like she was different or special…
"Oh ho ho ho. I do. Or do you think the challenges your superior faced just ENDED!? Battles against hollows. Or forces. Internal conflict and investigation. Management of the soul society. People who were in the Seventh are still present and active. Facing the same duties day in and day out. Of the changing leaders that come in progress. The faces of seated officers. Organization section leaders. Death. Life. Victory. Defeat. Each minute. Each year. Each centenary. Accomplishing things every day, while you ran away from your duties due to petty reasons like a simple reformation; with the people you claim to respect still there.. But where were you in those times once you left? Where is your sense of duty now? Disgusting. Simply disgusting and worthless. You're the one that failed to understand, and that is why you are alone to this day". He said with a twitching eyebrow. The gall of this woman to act as if the ones beside Ichigo. The Captains, Vice Captains, and other members of the Gotei were afraid to do what they needed to do. Time and again they faced those oppositions. Before and after Ichigo. And they would continue to. She. Just could not see because of her emotions and poor thinking in his eyes. Really? Overeagerness. Unclear thinking that showed a failure to be what a situation needed.
"Heh. You misunderstood. Might is might. But we have established cooperation between our worlds. Things of the dead stay out of the living and vice versa. I do not investigate mortal and mortal crimes. And they do not investigate the supernatural. Unless needed to, of course we lend aid if requested or drastically needed. But just because they CAN. Doesn't mean they should HAVE to. Mortals are mortals. They love their lives, and have their own challenges. Any spiritual challenges faced by their own hands. Allowed to have independence. Pride. A sense that they can provide and protect themselves. This only happens in the more extreme situations for peace sake. If humans surpass Shinigami in both strength and skill, they can and will handle it themselves. If they need aid we will come. If things threatened the world to such an extent as of ww4 and perhaps this.. we will work together. Everyone, work together. Not everyone can handle our world. But the ones that can will if need be. Balance of territory and duty require so. Don't you know this from the cooperation yet independence of the different divisions?? Have YOU been blinded by the powerful and steady growth of mortals over the centuries? There are those who can be used if the situation fits. And such placements need to be used because in war, everyone has use. I don't think nor see them as nothing more than humans that should stay outta the way".
Tento continued to listen to her. As hard as that was. Hesitation did cause more lives lost than needed. Unnecessary delay caused devastation. But sloppy action, rash unplanning. That could cause genocides and towns being destroyed. Countries. How could she not see that?? Rules needed to be followed. A mind and not a blinded heart needed to act. And once again, she spoke as if she was not one of them!
He sighed. "Rules need to be followed as their reasons exist. Adaption to hand situations as they come as well. Information and dutifulness in the times of adversity. But. Violence is not all the answer is. That is only a hurt heart slashing out at the world. Violence births more violence. Detag follows death, resentment and continued violence. Hollows yes, we kill them to cleanse their souls and continue on. But as you should know, not everything can or will be fixed by killing. Only worsened", he said, finding himself shifting from anger toward her to full pity. And a hint of sympathy.
"It's funny. What are you? Shinigami that chooses when to protect the Rukongai? Distance hands in the World of the Living? What do you even know of the current Gotei. And no. Not your memory of old. Your issues and trauma of the past. What have you interacted with to actually see what is done in the act of service? Waste not do. And if you wish to jump head first in that hole where there are more people to defend out here then by all means. But until it is requested that people go down and do some investigation. I will remain on the frontlines. Fighting hollows and rescuing people. Because that is what one can do right now that has the most meaning. Not, chasing the unknown without some planning. Or would you rather us not set up conditions that can favor us and the world of the living and limit any negative drawbacks?", Tento said in a strangely calm tone.
"Killing aizen is not the end all be all to do it. Do you forget the teaching of combat? When an ally fights you use the openings they give to apply pressure. If you are not strong enough to kill you weaken them. The Gotei are many, not one. You fight. You fight and you fight. If you don't fight you use your abilities and skills to be useful in other ways. Researching ways to handle them, healing, technology. Combat is only the barebones of the body".
He sighed once again. There was her mark. Her strain that made her so gun ho. From the teaching he remembered. The Quincies were always a tough spot for Shinigami. First it was their ambition to conquer the world due to their leader. His power rivaling the likes of God's. Humans with special abilities, a bloodline in a way. Wanting to reconnect the two worlds once again, breaking the change created by the Nobles by placing the soul king where he is now. It would destroy the world as they knew it and that is why the first war happened. The second, was due to tension. Hostility seemed to cause Shinigami to not come to Quincy aid during hollow attacks. And the Quincies felt that too many people were being killed by hollows due to the lackluster response time of Shinigami; causing them to take it into their own hands. A terrible outcome since they destroy souls, not cleans and push further into the cycle. Destruction of souls. Too slow of cleansing too fast creation would throw balance out of whack. And thus cause the worlds to crack. "Yes yes that is all true. One who causes a dangerous break in balance must be stopped. But you are wrong there. Lives are lives. Souls are souls. No one has a right to command who.lives and dies but we do it all the time. No right to but plenty who have the power and ability to. No matter what hate one holds. The different ideas. No one has an outright right to and one needs to remember that. A blade should only be drawn in duty, not in hate".
He wondered about that though. What.. would that even matter? Memories of the soul were erased when they became anew. Once they came back to the living world, the past lives would be meaningless. Any pain, love, development. Wiped away. Tentos eyes narrow at the woman. For once. His words spoke like they were venom. "Do not. Talk as if you know me. I have lost people just as anyone has. I may have more pain in this long life as a Shinigami. But don't you dare minimize any pain me or someone else can have because they are younger or have gone through different things than you have. You know not what I have seen. I have experienced. The challenges me or other people have had. We know, what it means to protect the souls we guard. You don't. You left that duty when you walked away from the Gotei. You spit on that continuously and for that I detest you. I have no respect for you. Your hatred of Quincy from personal reasons reeks off you like a toxic stench".
Now this, was interesting. Protection for her family when Quincy sought to destroy it? Whatever did she mean there? Quincy attacking her home? When she was alive or…in the after life? He was curious and desired to know more there but felt that he would never get a briefing of that information at the current tone of their conversation.
When she turned back and spoke in an eerily calm voice he nodded his head. Hand still on the hilt of his sword. He did say that she was no Shinigami in his eyes. She had the clothes, the sword, the spiritual pressure. But she was far from the idea. The spirit in his opinion. And he would be more than happy to her whatever she could say to leave no wonder to him. Only to shake his had slowly and sadly side to side when she finished. "You are no Shinigami. Just a vengeful spirit. A wounded. Their death is the true death. Worse than anything one could do truthly. At this point I find no point talking to you nor do I think any point in talking about what we disagree with. The most dangerous have the might to face the most dangerous situations. But that is not always what needs to be done to achieve victory and peace. Waiting to just die if they fall to allow it to take us. Ugh", he paused, true disgust in his voice and face. As if he would rather die than be near this woman any longer. "Such…such", he had no true words. Just a disappointment.

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
An Independent Investigation
In her eyes, he just simply didn't understand. He was neither old enough nor wise enough to be able too understand, but how could he be? A vengeful spirit she might've been by now... Perhaps being on her own, left to her own hateful thoughts had done this to her. But it mattered not to Fuurinji, for this man was a Shinigami of an age that no longer mattered, and he would learn that in time... just not right now. "Say what you will, for in the end it does not matter. You still have your loved ones, you still have those that you care for. You have things I can never again have, things I can only long for. No matter what you say, no matter what you experience, no matter what you do, until the Quincy have ripped them from you we will never be equals. You can be stronger, you can be faster, but you can never be my equal."
"I do not protect the Rukongai because it is, as you would say, simply not my duty. I do not protect the humans because, as you would say, it is not my duty. I do not do anything now because it is my duty, for I have no duty anymore. As you would say, I am a rogue going about my own path on my own terms in my own way. No longer am I bound to the constraints of your rules and regulations, I act as I desire and naught else. Vengeful? At least you're finally starting to see me for who I am. Perhaps I am no Shinigami, but then that is naught but a title bestowed upon you by someone who thinks themselves your superior. Yours do not desire change, yours desire power. Yours do not desire peace, yours desire conflict." She shook her head and let out a deep, slow sigh.
"If what you claim be true, then my blades shall never be drawn again for duty is not something I have known for longer than I care to recall at this moment. If your respect was something I cared for, our conversation would've never gotten to this point. The fact you feel the need to declare your lack of respect tells me more about you than you think." While her hand did leave her Zanpakuto, she wasn't without her readied stance. "The difference between us is that of the sun to the earth, you know only rebirth, while I only know death and loss. Your life experiences mean nothing, everyone you lose will be reborn and allowed to live and allowed peace. You have never had the Quincy erase someone you love from existence."
"If, by some miracle, you truly think you know more than me... Then come find me, Shinigami. If you truly think yours is so much better, perhaps then we will find who is truly in the right and who is in the wrong. Perhaps I am just waiting to die as you say, but if that were true it would not surprise me. As I have stated, the love and laughter of my Mother will never hearken to my ears. Never again shall she know the joy and gift of life and peace, and neither shall I."
By now she was walking away slowly, waving one arm meagerly in the air with that hand lazily drapped in front of it. "But even as violent as one of my Zanpakuto is, neither of them desire conflict with Shinigami. So I shall heed their words as I have always done, and you should heed yours. Go on back to your Master like a good little boy, perhaps when the Quincy have erased your families souls from the cycle you will be my equal, let us hope for their sakes I do not allow them that chance." Unless she was stopped, her form would soon vanish in a gust of wind kicked up by her Shunpo.

Re: An Independent Investigation (Ottozeo/Open)
On and on Tento listened. Finding more and more flaws that made him sick of her. No duty,, no honor. No HEART. She may hold the energy. The uniform. Fhe blade. But she was no warrior. Not even a person. Just an entity in form. Vengeance. One pitiful and only awaiting self destruction. Clouded. She went on and on about her mother bhr what of her other family? Blood and covenant. Did those Shinigami that served with her for centuries mean nothing. Did nothing? Mended and healed nothing?!?
Clouded and blind. "You may have no eyes. But that is not why you are blind....", was all Tento said before letting g her fade in the wind. If she could not allow a future to come. She would remain as she was. Stuck in the past.
...a reminder of himself. And he despised it.
