[Spirit Class 9] Morikawa Mika

Mika is a confident young woman, bordering on arrogant. Having been propped up as the savior and jewel of her family's name, she has been showered with compliments and positive reinforcement from a very young age. She understands her strengths and is unafraid to show them off in appropriate situations. As things have come easy to her through her entire life, Mika often takes her natural born abilities for granted and doesn't like being bogged down or surrounded by less talented individuals.

At the same time, Mika is not as driven as her family may want. She doesn't have much interest in being a shining mascot for the Morikawa clan and more often than not pursues her own interests. In the same vein she doesn't care much about being a bigwig in the Gotei United, and is far more interested in being strong enough to be able to do as she pleases. To Mika her less talented, but far more ambitious older sister Mizu is the one who can be bothered with familial expectations, not her.

In conversation Mika can often seem uninterested and rude. Believing herself to be better than those around her, what others prattle on about is of little concern to Mika. At the same time, she doesn't necessarily condescend much to others. Though she may tell someone to their face they're boring her, she does not mean to hurt their feelings. That's just how she feels, and she has no problem sharing her thoughts with other people. This has been an issue for her in the Shin'o Academy as Mika will often tell fellow students who are struggling to just give up, drop out, and go home.

Though she respects authority, and would not repeatedly openly disrespect someone she holds in high esteem, Mika has been called discourteous or insubordinate due to her lack of use of honorifics for most people. To her unless someone proves it, they aren't any better than she is and don't deserve any special treatment as a result. On the flip side, one thing that can for sure draw her ire is mocking her size; Mika will typically go off on a tirade about how she is a perfectly reasonable size for someone her age, that she is just a late bloomer, or that she can beat up whoever is pointing out how small she is. The absolute worst mistake someone can make with Mika is mistaking her for a child.

Despite her blasé attitude when dealing with people, her mind is constantly taking in information and making deductions. Perhaps the biggest reason she develops skills so easily is her great intelligence, which was apparent to her family from a very young age. Mika was always ahead of her peers. As a toddler she was solving complex puzzles, as a child she was mastering arts like calligraphy and various instruments, and as a teenager she took to all four pillars of Zankensoki like a true prodigy.

In winter 2104 the youngest Morikawa daughter was born. Mika's family was affluent to say the least, and resided in the Hokutan District of the Rukongai. This last fact continued to trouble her parents who sought to become true Soul Society nobles so they could move into Seireitei and grow their wealth and esteem. Though not power hungry, the Morikawa clan sought to improve their standing to make life easier for it's members and to bring pride to their family name. This placed a lot of pressure on Mika from birth as she would be expected to contribute significantly to the family's acclaim and recognition.

From a young age these expectations would only increase as Mika revealed herself to be a natural born prodigy, far exceeding the benchmarks set by her older siblings. Her rapidly progressing skills and intelligence were in stark contrast to her older sister Mizu who struggled with the simplest of tasks. While Mizu had spent her childhood being encouraged by her parents to give up on her ambitions and being civil service worker or technician, Mika was told she would be the greatest Morikawa ever.

Mika never held her sister's weaknesses against her and, likely due to their significant age gap, still looked up to her as a younger sibling should. One of only times she cried as a child was when Mizu left to join the Shin'o Academy, knowing she would not see much of her, if at all, for quite some time. The other time was shortly before this when their older brother Kaiyō perished in the line of duty during a mission. The Hollow that had killed him was a particularly nasty menace, and though the news of it's death gave peace of mind to her parents, Mika didn't care. All she cared about was the fact her brother was gone forever.

Starting at age 3 Mika was taught by private tutors from Seireitei and the Gotei, handpicked by her parents to provide the best possible education one could get without being a member of a Great Noble House. Through her formative years these tutors would keep her learning and growing as an individual, but she did not spend much time outside of her family's estate and as a result did not interact with other kids her own age.

Over the course of the next half dozen or so years Mika experienced little outside of tutor sessions and family matters. With an incredibly sheltered childhood behind her she eventually applied for the Shin'o Academy at age 17, passed the entrance exam with perfect grades, and was immediately placed into the special accelerated class due to her heightened Reiatsu for her age and already-developed diverse skill set. Mika immediately excelled in the Academy, having had a leg up on even her most talented peers due to her tutoring.

Still just a year 1 student Mika has a long way to go, but with every aced class and exam that distance becomes just a little bit shorter. She hasn't made much of an effort to learn about or befriend any of her classmates. One of her only interactions with a peer was after a Kidō class when she walked up to a student who had been struggling to even cast a pretty rudimentary spell. Mika told the student she did not understand how she could also be in the special accelerated class, that she wouldn't even make it in the bottom class, and that if she is going to struggle so much with Kidō she should just drop out and reapply in a few years. Though she was only intending to paint a realistic picture for the girl, she still came across as purposefully hurtful and was promptly slapped in response. From the on Mika vowed to not take any interest in her classmates.


» Well-rounded Fighter: With 15 years of premium tutoring at her back, and a natural proclivity to developing new skills, Mika has become a well-rounded Shinigami-in-training with a diverse repertoire of talents and abilities. She is already more knowledgeable in all four aspects of Zankensoki than even some low ranked Gotei officers, and is still rapidly improving. She doesn't favor any particular method or style and is developing in all areas equally, resulting in a fighter capable of using and mixing hand to hand fighting, sword fighting, and Kidō with little trouble.

» Strategic Mind: Mika possesses an intelligence far beyond her years and is capable of understanding complex situations and problems at a moment's notice. She is particularly adept at breaking down the functionalities, strengths, and even weaknesses of allies and enemies alike. Using her great mind and advanced education Mika is able to come up with battle strategies on the fly, including developing feints and optimal solutions without giving away her true plans.
