The Welcoming Era
Sun Jan 15, 2023 2:33 pm
Natures' singing echoed across the open sky with the sun shining down on the Seireitei. Wind was gently breezing through and past each of the buildings like a careful touch. Naxel, the 5th Divisions' newest recruit, lied in his cramped space when he felt the wind grace his face. Light also shown through the window to cause his eyes to open from a deep slumber. This was considered to be a peaceful way for one to wake up in the Kashōshikas' eyes. "Ehhherm!" The sound from his body stretching from his slumber.
"It is already daylight out? I must have overslept..." Realization not hitting him like a normal persons' would. It wouldn't be but a few seconds later before everything to become reality. "Wait... Oh shit! I must have overslept!" Naxel realized while his body flailed around in his bunk, trying to get off but can't from the bedding itself. "Shi... Grr... Ug... Com... On...!" Frustration built with every passing second he couldn't escape the grasps of something such as his bedding. Someone who was trained, extensively, in the martial arts and art of assassination couldn't remove himself from bedding was such an embarrassment!
"My my my." A faint, familiar voice flew the empty room towards the new 5th Division Shinigami. Naxel managed to hear this voice and stopped to feel an uneasy feeling surge through his body. "I guess the great next head of the Kashōshika Clan has reached a point that bedding can easily defeat him." The voice spoke out with each word getting louder as they approached closer. "I am not being defeated by bedding Chiharu. This bedding just got tangled with my body during the night is all." Chiharu burst into laughter from Naxels' response. If this was any other time Chiharu would have immediately respond with a counter joke. However, Naxel was late, very late, and needed to get to the meeting room for his assignment.
Chiharu swiftly slung his leg out to kick Naxel out of his bed; sending the unseated shinigami over two bunks to smash into the floor. The bedding was now easy to depart from and allowed for Naxel to stand up off the floor. "That hurt you know..." Rubbing his head before making his way towards the door. "I will get you back for that later, Chiharu. Even though you did it to help me escape those sheets." Speaking once again before exiting the room and leaving Chiharu behind in the Bunks.
Naxel made his way through the buildings of the 5th Division towards the meeting area. This place was still relatively new to him, despite doing his best to learn the area as soon as he entered the headquarters. Every turn and corner he made only led him to another hallway that seemed to go on forever and ever. Yet, it was his lucky day when he saw a familiar door that he was seventy-five percent certain was to the meeting area. When he approached the door, Naxel jumped up and landed on the door in a bowing position on his knees. Sliding across the hall, busting through the door, and making his way into the meeting room with dust flying everywhere. Once the dust cleared, there was no one to be seen anywhere. Causing Naxel to drop his head onto the floor in disappointment for himself.

Shuten may not be the Vice Captain anymore, but she kiiinda sorta made Henrex accept help from his other subordinates until the day he DID get a vice Captain; and also insisted that he was not allowed to choose her. Of course... Henrex likely already knew such a thing as Shuten had not been made the Lieutenant. Regardless, Shuten still kept careful track of new recruits, what they were to do for their daily chores, and so on. However, one new recruit in particular seems to be quite late, and on their first day no less, to a meeting to introduce new recruits to their officers. As everyone else had work to do, and Shuten was more than glad to wait for the Shinigami to come, she did nothing but wait in a dark corner of the room, calmly sipping sake.
After an uncounted amount of time, a Shinigami burst through the door, sliding across the floor on his knees; his head eventually slumping to the floor once he realized that no one was in the room. At least... he thought no one was in the room. Unheard foot steps padded across the floor before Shuten had swiftly appeared in front of Naxel with a rather silent shunpo; crouching down to tap him on the head carefully.
"You know... Recruits wanting to make a good first impression should try to make it to meetings on time; if not five minutes early. Raise your head and stand, there is no one of official consequence you need to bow to. Not right now at least. Tell me your name, please. Just because I have the name and picture of the new recruits doesn't mean I have memorized them... so please, stand and let us converse as squad-mates."
Shuten stood before Naxel did, likely allowing the only sight for Naxel to see was that of her basically bare feet, and lower legs; a rather petite body at that. However, he may become quite dumbfounded when he stood; to see the purple eyes and hair, and the horns that sprouted from Shuten's head. Indeed... Most Suika had them, the horns that is. Shuten was simply young, all things considered. So yes, she was short. However, sadly, not everyone in the Soul Society knew of the Suika; the Oni of the rukongai.
"I'm Shuten Suika, Fourth Seat and Sake Oni; it's a pleasure, young Shinigami."

Disappointment flowing through the body wasn't the greatest feeling for one to experience. Naxel has never been one to slack when it comes to being punctual. Training from his father and time at the Shino Academy disciplined him to the point that this shouldn't have happened. If his father was the one waiting then things would have already become extremely ugly in this room. Yet, things were just very quiet while Naxel shamefully kept his head touching the ground. Maybe once his superior entered the room they would instantly see how ashamed he was for being late. Even though it felt like being late this time was the only chance he was going to get...
Knowing how much time has past was never relevant to the Shinigami since entering the room. There wasn't a single way of telling how much time has or hasn't passed due to the room he was in. Doors only sheltered the light from the room and windows seemed to be scarce as well. However, the only thing he did know was that his soul would quickly leave his body once a voice covered over the silence. His head quickly shot up to see a woman was steadily talking while he had not a single clue what was being said.
Following the first attempt of the female Shinigami, Naxel was slung backwards from an unknown occurrence that couldn't even register in his mind. Those other than him knew that he was scared shitless from being out assassined by a complete stranger who appeared from the depths of darkness itself.
To make matters worse, Naxel managed to hear the second attempt from the woman who addressed herself as Shuten Suika... 4TH SEAT of the 5th Division. His body began shaking under the rubble from his collision with whatever breakable thing he landed on. Sweat was pouring all over his body like a waterfall falling off the side of a cliff. Naxel not only disappointed the higher ups of the squad by being late, but him being late to meeting the 4th Seat of his very own division! He might has well have been late to seeing the Captain and should just commit seppuku instead of experiencing the possible punishment that was surely to follow.
Naxel had kept the 4th Seat waiting for far too long, even the quick moment passing from his own fear flinging him. So, he quickly crawled through the rubble and over towards the 4th Seat to intentionally smack his head on the ground while bowing. "4th Seat Suika, I deeply apologize for being late to the meeting. Especially since it was my first official day in the 5th Division. Please allow me to commit seppuku if my lateness has made you disappointed in me!" Quickly undoing his top to his uniform, exposing his bare chest. His sword quickly unsheathed and pointing at his chest in a very dramatic way that was actually overly dramatic for a Kashoshika.

A quick smack to the top of the overreacting Shinigami's head was all that was presented before Shuten swiftly yanked his Zanpakuto out of his hands and glowered at him somewhat, putting her sake dish on a platform of hardened reishi in the process. Even if she was short, intimidation appeared to be one of her strong suits; the horns likely helped a tiny bit. She held the Zanpakuto flat in her hands, with obvious respect despite the fact that she yanked the blade away from him with little care; but she was in a position where she needed to teach a subordinate a bit of a lesson... even if she was no longer a Captain nor a Vice Captain.
"Calm yourself now, seppuku is not a viable option to relief yourself of shame and disappointment; and nor will it ever be. You shall redeem yourself with action, and not retreat to death. Tell me your name, young Shinigami and stop groveling on the ground... It's heavily unbecoming. Stand up straight, and take your Zanpakuto and return it to it's sheath; I forbid you from suggesting to kill yourself again, got it? The next time you report late to a meeting, of any kind, you will be cleaning the barracks. Understood? And please, relax a bit... you're not on pins and needles."
After waiting a short period for the new recruit to stand, take his Zanpakuto, and return it to its sheath, Shuten would take a long drink from the sake dish she had picked up after Naxel had retrieved his Zanpakuto from her; and Naxel would likely be able to take in more of Shuten's now that he wasn't blubbering like a fish out of water. Short, at least compared to him most likely, with a Zanpakuto, or at least it would be best to assume it was one, upon her back; a blue spiked sake gourd affixed to the pommel. There was also a larger, matching, gourd in a corner, filled to the brim with Sake. After Naxel had composed himself a bit, Shuten would speak again.
"So... If you've composed yourself a little bit, how about we go over what you may remember about the purposes of this meeting? Aside from the obvious ones of introducing yourself to your officers. We may have to reschedule such a thing for another time... however, I do believe your absence for this first one will be overlooked on account of how new you are. So, what do you have to say?"

What appears to be out of no where to Naxel, Shuten wound up smacking the unseated shinigami and snatched away his own zanpaktou. Having been disarmed by someone of her size was the least of his problems at the moment. Following her smack, pain began to surge through Naxels' body from head to toe. Leaving behind a large goose egg that was almost the size of his own head. Tears began pouring out of his eyes in a continued dramatic way to where he was just looking pitiful at this point. His hands grasped his head, body still in a bowing position, and his elbows supporting his upper body on the floor."What the hell is wrong with this woman??" The thought crossed his mind, just as dramatic as his reactions.
Shuten wound up giving Naxel a speech about his actions, but felt like a scolding. The unseated Shinigami wound up getting off the floor during the middle of the speech. When he was fully on his feet would be when his eyes finally view the 4th Seats appearance. Before he didn't get a chance to really see what she looked like, but he was kind of happy that he did now. "I can see why she is mean... They let a hellian from hell join the gotei 8, hehehehe" His thoughts quickly shifted to being comedic out of no where.
Following the speech felt scolding, Naxel retrieved his zanpaktou back from his superior. Now was the time that he was feeling ashamed for letting someone of her stature manage to disarm him so easily. Naxel understand that Shuten was his superior and the 4th Seat of the entire 5th Division, but the thought of her doing what she did boggled his mind. He was honestly not sure if he was weaker than he thought or someone screwed him over somewhere from his birth until now. The mystery will continue on as unknown for the time being.
Before Naxel could give a response to Shutens' speech she began to speak once again. Giving off hints that she was apparently waiting for him to quit being overly dramatic like he was. Which it was quite strange to him as well that he did what he did. This type of occurrence has never happened to him before. Is it because of him being new to the Gotei 8? His superior seems to be quite mean? Or maybe it could be the fact that she scared him and possessing an overly compensated weapon on her back.... The world may never know.
"Sorry Ma'am!" He quickly shouted following her last response to him. Snapping into a parade rest type stance with his hands behind his back. "I am Naxel Kashoshika of the Kashoshika Clan! My clan is a family that trains it's members specifically for the Stealth Force of the Gotei 8. I am also an unseated member who just recently graduated from the academy, ma'am!" Taking a moment to catch a breath before continuing. "New members of the 5th Division were required to meet here this morning for us to meet the squad, our officers, and obtain our assignments for the squad. The meeting also entailed that we were to be given training officers as well, ma'am! That is all I am aware of what the meeting was about." Finishing off his response by looking directly at Shuten with a newly reserved and serious look on his face.

He really was quite dramatic, wasn't he? That bap wasn't even hard enough to raise a proper bump, yet he was holding his head and crying like she had just smacked him with a stick really hard. Shuten simply observed silently as the Shinigami went from dramatic, to completely misunderstanding what she was, and then to a more relaxed position. Indeed, she was shorter than him, as Shuten had honestly predicted. Frankly speaking, Shuten wasn't so old herself... and her body certainly showed that. To say the least, she was probably a bit of a late bloomer as far as her family was concerned. She gently drank a bit more sake as Naxel began to explain himself to her. Frankly speaking, she was interested to find he was so disciplined despite his previous dramatic outburst. Shuten decided to let that pass without comment as she looked at the man before her; taking in his words. His report about what the meeting was about was quite true indeed, which Shuten was glad he remembered the purpose of the meeting. Not to mention, she recognized his name from the list of new recruits, and had some recollection of the name of his family; even if she was a little irritated that he knew nothing of her family. Then again, the Suika were mostly popular in the Rukongai, where they had a reputation for being oni in their own right; and for good reason.
Shuten took one more drink as she studied Naxel, letting the silence grow between them. Frankly speaking, she wasn't trying to unnerve or scare him. She was simply stalling a tiny bit, testing his nerve on accident, as she let her purple eyes study him silently before that same silence would be eventually broken by Shuten's silken tones; lubricated efficiently by the alcohol she had just drank a healthy amount of. However, it would be obvious to Naxel that Shuten wasn't tipsy or feeling the effects at all. Being a Suika, holding her liquor so well was just natural.
"Well... I'm glad you remember the purpose of the meeting well enough. We'll have to reschedule another one, because meeting just me is not enough, I'm afraid... But it's nice to meet one of our new recruits. As I already said before, I'm Shuten Suika. Nice to meet you, Naxel. Now... Do you have any questions at all? I can at least try to answer some of them... But I'm afraid some may have to wait until you meet He-- Captain Henrex. Regardless, ask away."

Following his report on the report of the meeting, silence began to cover the entire room with Shuten not immediately responding to what she heard. Naxel wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but started to feel a little awkward just standing in the parade rest type position he was in. The silence felt harder and harder on his mind that he wasn't entirely sure what he should do or say to remove the awkwardness. His eyes would break away from the position to look at Shuten and then move back into the position. This would begin to repeat and gradually increase in speed until he heard the 4th begin to speak, and then stop. Being very thankful that he didn't have to be the one to do something.
Everything was still a little bit on the unknown side when Shuten finished her response. Naxel wasn't entirely sure what she all knew, or if she was quite busy to keep up with everything going on. In the report, Naxel remembers that he was assigned to the command of the 4th Seat of the Division, Shuten Suika. The Unseated Shinigami knew that there was a highly, unlikely chance of two people sharing the same name and even more of them both being in the same Division. So the person standing in front of him was actually his superior that he was assigned too.
"Hopefully she doesn't smack me for saying this..." The thought crossed his mind before he began to give his response. "Fourth Seat Suika, I don't mean to question your knowledge on things within the division, but I was assigned to your command. According to the report that all of us new members were given to memorize." He said before breaking his head away from parade rest to look down at the 4th seat with his reserved look. "Some questions I have can wait, as you have stated. The questions I do have, however, revolve around the assignments and tasks that those of us under your command are to do? Given I did not have a great first impression on you, but I was trained and disciplined to strive for excellence. Working hard to where I have achieved the goal of becoming a member of the Gotei 8. I will show you just how hard working I am by not failing you, Ma'am." Finishing off with anxiousness to know what her response will be.

"I know you were, Naxel. Why else would I still be here if you weren't? And it's the Gotei United, Naxel. Not Gotei eight. And please, relax a little bit... you're not going to be bonked, stabbed, or killed if you just relax a modicum or two. I swear, a broom is welded to your spine."
The Suika took a long drink of her sake, letting out quite the refreshing sigh as she took a sharp look at the new recruit that was now under her care, and judged him quietly. Eventually, Shuten simply shrugged and gestured to Naxel, asking for him to follow her as she walked out of the meeting room, humming a particular tune. She was simply walking and talking, greeting members with cheer; a slight pep to her step. However, she did make sure that Naxel was following her.
"Our tasks and assignments do not differ from those of the entire stealth division unless our captain personally asks me to handle something; which is a very case by case basis. Otherwise, we participate in the regular recon routines, assassinations, secret missions, and assisting the first in stabilization of the Gotei. We'll figure out what suits you best after a bit. I find it best to judge those put under my care personally."
Shuten continued to walk, eventually arriving to a training ground that appeared to be intended not for sparring, but for the honing of skills. In this case, it would be for Naxel to demonstrate his capabilities to Shuten. She gestured to the training area with a warm smile before she pulled the blue gourd on her hip off, popped the top a bit too casually, and filled the same sake dish she had been drinking from; taking a quick swig before she corked the gourd. After taking a seat upon the large gourd, seemingly on a spot where it was quite comfortable to sit on.
"Show me what you can do, Naxel. I wish to know your capabilities before we move forward with assignment. We can contemplate sparring at a later date, after you have met the captain I expect."

Hearing the first thing that came out of her mouth made Naxel realized that she certainly knew what his assignment was. He forgets that he was raised in a completely different environment where stuff was kept from others, mainly the elders and his father. The Gotei United was a remarkable organization that has been tested over and over again to the point that they will never falter. Being apart of a group like this was the biggest honor someone in his family could have, even if he blundered up and misworded the organizations very own name. Yet, he was going to take his superiors advice and calm down. Along with taking his leave with her after seeing her gesture for them to leave.
The Fourth Seat was an interesting person for Naxel to observe. Her casual behavior of whistling and greeting members of the division didn't seem like it would fit her. Not saying that she couldn't be capable of such behavior, but it was just an odd thing to see after the meeting they had. Nonetheless, Naxel would then begin to hear her response of the assignments that he was now responsible for executing. It was quite disappointing that all members of the division did the same thing, excluding special assignments from the captain, but he guessed it wouldn't be too bad.
Finally, The two would continue on until they made their way to an area that begun to excite the Unseated Shinigami. Naxel didn't have to hear anyone tell him what the purpose of this area was, because it was an area that was all too familiar to him. It was a training area that seemed to be spacious enough for even a destructive fighter to have room to play around a bit. Naxel didn't possess that sort of power, but the space was big enough for him to flaunt off the skills he did have to show off.
"Show you what I can do, eh? Hmm..." Each word coming out of his mouth in almost a hush tone, inaudible almost. There wasn't a lot of overly compensating skill that the unseated member have to show off. The only thing he could think of wouldn't be too impressive to the Fourth Seat. However, it was the only thing he could think of starting out with. So, Naxel quickly disappeared into a Shunpo over to grab a stick at a nearby tree. His movements didn't falter or halt upon grabbing the stick and just continued on. The next move he made was him moving behind Suika and jumping upwards into a summersault. Appearing out of the Shunpo with his stick coming down to attempt a tab on the back of her neck. Simulating a quick kill on the back of ones' neck.

Indeed, Shuten had desired for Naxel to show her what she could do. In the time it took him to prepare, Shuten had set her Zanpakuto against a wall, her Zanpakuto spirit briefly materializing to assist Shuten in refilling her gourd of healing sake, and normal sake, before she Suika picked up a bokken. She took a long drink from her sake, handing the dish to her Zanpakuto spirit, who set it down and smiled at Shuten before she disappeared. With that, Shuten waited patiently for Naxel to make his move; and so he did.
His motions, even if they were slower than Shuten's own, were well practiced and obviously that of one who knew what they were doing. Clearly, his family's rigorous training had paid off. She hummed slightly, tilting her head as he moved around the room with his Shunpo. Eventually, the man appeared behind the Suika with a well done Shunpo, however, Shuten was ready for him. With a flash of her arm, Shuten threw a concealed Kunai; which would impale in the stick. The action was fully intended to distract him as he made his strike. Soon came a feint, meant to make him guard his upper body before Shuten's bokken moved to her intended target; striking him smartly on the ribs. Afterwards, Shuten kicked Naxel away; erasing her energy in a brief instant as she used a swiftly executed Shunpo to move above Naxel; where she could stand or hang from the rafters or upon a wall that would conceal her physical presence.
The only thing Naxel might sense, unless he had far keener senses than Shuten was expecting, for a brief moment was sheer, undeniable, killing intent as Shuten grabbed his head from behind, and placed the "blade" of the bokken, the wooden practice sword, against his throat; smiling gently.
"You're good, Naxel; and I know you'll be come a great addition to the division. However, show me more... Techniques, combat. Come. Throw yourself at me like your life was at stake, Naxel."
Shuten disengaged herself from Naxel with a flourish and a surprising burst of speed; using a shunpo of her own once again. This time, however, she was right in front of him, grinning a tiny bit as she kept the bokken at her side; completely ready for whatever. Frankly speaking, it was good to have something like this to distract her, something like this to do. She needed to let go of more of her strict side and just have fun.
