Re: Inter-Division Mingling [Mizu, Asami]

Furukawa Asami | OFFICER OF THE 5TH
Asami's lips curled into a welcome grin as Mizu reached out with her left hand, welcoming the contest of strength, but she faltered as she began to cast her spell. Her arm continued to fall in spite of the attack, for she was too committed to back down, but she gritted her teeth and prepared to endure the shock. And she was shocked, though not really in the way that she had expected, as Mizu's hand exploded with a little force. Not enough to knock Asami's stance but certainly enough to do what the girl had intended and propel her to relative safety.
Now things were getting interesting, Mizu was beginning to cut loose a little so she probably should as well. With a sudden blur, Asami flash-stepped behind the recovering Mizu and reached out to grab her. Having happened in the blink of an eye, her Tanto was back in its sheath allowing her to reach out with one arm whilst the katana served as a deterrent to any counterattacks. Were she able to get ahold of her target then it would swiftly lead into a Taketonbo as Asami moved to toss her back into the dirt with a simple toss. But perhaps Mizu would have another tactic up her sleeve, this was a battle of minds and much as skill after all.

There had been some surprise at Mizu's prior use of Kido, given that Asami had naively assumed this was a traditionally martial bout, but she was not one to call a stop to a fight based on rules they had not specified. So, she adapted to the change and accepted that they were playing to their strengths. It was not like this made their contest particularly unfair anyway.
The Sho connected with Asami's shoulder as she was rushing in to press her advantage, the speed of her casting was impressive certainly, and sent the Furukawa tumbling backwards as pain shot down her sword arm. But she did not travel as far as she expected, colliding with a barrier of some kind that bounced her forwards and up into the air. Hearing another spell being cast though, she could not simply continue to let Mizu have her way with her.
As the rope flew out, Asami twisted her body to keep one arm free from the binding for a precious few moments. In a flash, the temporarily free arm snapped downward, grabbing at the binding spell itself to pull her in towards Mizu again before finally submitting to the magic. Her movement might now be restricted but she was still more than able to work with what she had whilst the rest of her strained against the energy that bound her. One leg rose high above her as she went to deliver a crushing axe kick aided now by her height advantage, whilst the other went to steady her form. The strike was certainly dangerous by itself, but Asami had also left herself rather open, her arms and body being affixed as they were.

Asami's leg came crashing down, missing the fleeing Mizu by the slightest of margins and instead found only air. She twisted a little, attempting to adjust for her descent, but instead found herself increasing in velocity as the rope that was wrapped around her was suddenly yanked downwards. Struggle as she might against the binding spell, there was nothing to stop her as she crashed into the floor with a similar grace to that which Mizu had previously shown.
The impact at least gave her the push needed to break free from the Hainawa spell, her arms bursting apart as the golden rope was reduced to shreds of energy. Asami was not without injury from the rough and tumble, sporting a few fresh cuts and scrapes as she bounced back to her feet.
Now that was more like it.
Darting forwards again, Asami was more than happy to trade flash steps with her opponent as she bore down upon them. Feinting left then right, her Katana came sweeping across from low on the right in an attempt to force Mizu’s weapon aside as they traded blows. But that would only serve to pave the way for her follow up as, regardless of this attack’s success, she stepped closer still and went for a punch straight to Mizu’s gut. If this landed, though, she would not hesitate to go for a grapple on her opponent and properly pin her down. As dangerous and she was with her swords, her fists were no less effective when it came down to it.

Her fist connected cleanly with Mizu's chest, the strategy having been well executed, but it was still not enough to put the blonde down. Having her attempt at a grapple evaded, Asami soon found herself being pulled further forward by a burst of exertion from her opponent. She could have resisted it, dug her heels into the dirt and made it a contest of strength that she might well have won, but a different choice came to mind.
Kicking off the ground, Asami flung her entire weight into the toss rather than fight against it. Her sword arm, free now from its struggle against the steel of her opponent, would then go to wrap around Mizu's body and eventually drag her along for the ride. As she was being thrown, she would try to take Mizu over with her and then prevent her from escaping to a distance with further grappling once they were both back on the ground. Had this been a real fight, she might have tried to go for the neck trying to choke the woman out, but that was a little too far for a friendly match.

The fight grew desperate as both Asami and Mizu contested for who would hold dominion over the grapple, but there was a difference in their physical abilities. Asami had known this going into this line of attack, it had been one of her chief reasons for doing so, and so she did continue to press her advantage when Mizu started to falter. It wasn't like an immediate sweep, the progress was slow enough for her to believe that it was genuine. And if it wasn't then she would simply have to capitalise upon the edge she had been given.
Her legs were quick to get in on the action too, moving to restrict Mizu's own between her thighs, as she tried to get on top of the slighter woman and weigh her down too. Succeeding in that, she could go for her zanpakuto and probably call this an end to their little bout. She did not want to be overconfident, but there was little room for doubt. This girl was more than capable of making an escape if given the chance, or so Asami had gauged from their match so far.
