Personality: Kai is a very upbeat person. He is cheerful, often even slightly hyper - you could call him childish. Although he turned 18 this year, he's still a kid at heart. It is easy to exite him about something, but he also quickly loses interest again. This makes him easily guiliable, by simply distracting him from whatever questions he is asking or things he's trying to find out. Once he finds out that he was victim to such a tactic for the tenth time that day, he'll most likely be grumpy - for two seconds.
He also is a very kind boy, though. He often helps strangers without expecting a reward, if he can, that is. He also has a very high amount of courage, doing things others would call stupid or outright suicidal without a second thought - this also leads to him being very reckless and not tactical, though, which can prove problematic in his dealings as a Sentai.
Besides being reckless and protective in combat, he is a loyal individual, and will trust his companions with his life if the situation calls for it. Being the one to call for the 'finisher' if needed, he is also the one providing the final kick - literally.
His childlike nature also makes him seem very innocent and likeable, which makes it incredibly hard to hold grudges against him or to be angry at his pranks for more than a few minutes. In school, he is rather popular amongst his friends, but doesn't give much at hanging out with people he doesn't actually know. Even though he seems to be the center of much attention, only very few people actually know him. He is the captain of the soccer team of Karakura High, too.

Kai is not a very tall young man, but makes up for that with his energy and nearly never standing still. In school, he wears the usual uniform of Karakura High, even though he is known for letting many things slide away, like closing up his grey overshirt completely. Power Development Stage 1 Abilities: While un-morphed, Kais cellphone is only able to perform a small anti-gravity magic that can make small objects float, which has no practical combat use. However, he can use it to morph into the form seen on the picture - he can change into Mahou Sentai MagiRed. To perform this, he enters a numeric code into the phone before pressing the 'call' button, while speaking his spell to transform:
"Heavenly saints, grant me the miracle of magic! Magi Magi, Magiiro!"
A red magic circle appears underneath him, as Kai dons the armor. While armored, he uses the wand-sword, which normally looks like a magic wand or weapon hilt with 'wings' on one end in gold, while the wand itself is red. In wand-form, it can conjure fire out of Reiatsu, which is always burning red, even if it's hot enough that natural fire would turn white in an instance where it is strengthened.
However, with a flick of his wrist and will, MagiRed can change the wand into the MagiSword, the sword mode of the weapon, where a golden sword blade is exterted from the 'winged' part of the wand. The blade is scorching hot, and as strong as tempered steel.
As per usual for the Rangers and Sentai, he can see spirits while morphed, but not un-morphed.
To use his flames in special shapes and attacks, MagiRed utilizes spells to make the red fire do as he says. However, his fire is wild - should he not have his courageous heart, the fire will backfire at him and hurt him, even through his normally flame-resistant armor. This is the main reason why Kai is the only one able to use MagiReds powers.
"Magi Magi, Magicka!" A basic spell to conjure fire in close range to the wand for a closer range attack by slashing it like a whip or sword.
"Magi Magi, Girujinga!" This spell fires a ball of flames from the wand to explode onto the enemy.
"Magi Magi Galungujin!" This creates a constant 'lance' or whirl of flames from the wand at the enemy.
Finally, the protective magician suit also has a finishing move called 'Phoenix Fire'. Conjuring the fire around the own body, before crashing it into the enemy and cutting away with the sword. This move is generally weaker than the combined finisher, of course, and usually can't finish off a stronger enemy alone. Weaker Hollows and Demons are a different story.

His suit is equipped with a special shield that protects the wearer from spiritually energetic attacks from Hollows, Arrancars, and Demons alike. However, some attacks can decimate that shield like Gran Ray Cero (Example: Grimmjow) and Azure-Flame (Example: Vohlis.) Physical attacks from Hollows, Arrancars and Demons are also blocked by the shield, despite the visual depiction that he has taken a hard hit. Fortunately, taking a hit from a spirit does not immediately kill the wearer; instead, he can stand back up after recovering shortly after taking a hit.
While he lacked any combat experience or talent before becoming a Ranger, the armor grants him combat experience worth multiple years, which makes him able to fight in the first place.

Background: Kai was born in Karakura City, one of the largest centers of spiritual power in the real world - however, he had the spiritual senses of a rock right from the start, unable to see spirits. Living oblivious to all spirits, he knew of the Shinigami and Hollow thanks to the open policy about informations, but unable to see them, he never saw them in any connection to his life, although he was fascinated by the invisible as a small child.
That faded with time, as he found his love for sports during middle school, not caring for the spiritual world anymore. He quickly became an apparent star player of his soccer team, and the formerly timid boy became a popular, but still childish guy.
His parents are both still alive and well, his father working as a salesman for insurances, and his wife actually being his boss at the bank - talk about a work affair working out perfectly. Still, as they are often working, he doesn't have the strongest bond with them, and dislikes going home early after school, or staying at home during the weekend, since he is pretty much alone at his house at all times. Still, even though he hangs around Karakura City very often, and is a rather popular guy, he doesn't seem to have many friends.
His curiosity is the main reason why he will be/was selected as MagiRed - sneaking behind the other Rangers and Sentai and claiming the red MagiPhone with his courage instead of approval by the maker of them. Before becoming MagiRed, he didn't know the other Rangers more than any other student of Karakura High - maybe seeing them once or twice, saying hi or the similliar, but nothing else. This will obviously change now.
