Echoes of Despair [Tento | Henry ]

Tento stood before the swirling void of the Garganta in Soul Society, its featureless black expanse connecting the worlds in one of few ways possible. He took a short deep breath, steeling himself for the journey ahead. Why did it always make him nervous? He hadn't encountered a hollow using this. He hadn't felt weakness in control. Yet still, a sensation was stiff within him.
Today, he was tasked with transporting money and essential supplies to Africa, a nation that had recently been decimated by a hollow attack. The destruction had left countless people as refugees, and their plight weighed heavily on his heart. How could he fail so much. How could they fail so much? Despite grabbing victory by its nail in the end, the cost was far too deep to not leave a sour taste in his mouth. With a resolute step, Tento entered the abyss. The transition through the Garganta was disorienting, the dark void pressing in on all sides. Yet, he moved forward with unwavering determination as he moved closer to his destination.
As he emerged on the other side, the sight that greeted him was far worse than he had anticipated. Africa, already scarred by previous attacks, was now under siege by a large number of hollows! The monstrous creatures wreaked havoc across various refugee camps, their malevolent presence spreading fear and chaos.Tento's eyes widened in horror as he took in the scene before him. Seeing the chaos unfolding before him, Tento's instincts kicked in. He didn't have time to dwell on the shock; he had to act. With a determined expression, he drew his zanpakuto, ready to defend the innocent and bring order to the chaos.

In the center of this small village, a commotion was sure to get Tento's attention. Near one of the main buildings that housed many of the afflicted and wounded, a man stood guarding the doorway, blood trickling down his brow. Before him, a towering hollow loomed ever closer, in an obvious altercation that had been going on for an unknown time. The man, bloodied and battered, did not seem to break a grin on his face, one eye squinted closed as the dribbles of crimson got in the way. With a chuckle of what could only be seen as desperation, he called out to the beast, "You sure are one tough sucker, big guy. You won't go down without a fight..." His shirt was torn off of him and balled up around his fists, almost like bloodied and ragged make-shift boxing gloves, and he was covered in grit and grime from their brawl. With a kick, he launched himself forward at the hollow, cocking back a punch and loosing it, only for the hulking beast to step to the side and send a kick careening into the man's side and launching him tumbling down the street like a ragdoll, kicking up dust as he cartwheeled all the way up until he skidded to a halt with a huff. Dragging himself up to his feet, he winced, the side of his ribs dented in and his arm bent in a way that didn't seem like it should be. "Yeah... yep... shoulda seen that coming..." He jested, feigning a laugh through gritted teeth. With a deep breath, he slapped his hands to his cheeks, as if waking himself up. A golden light glittered to life as he rose to his feet, his ribs seeming to reform beneath his skin, his arm creaking back into place, and the wounds that littered his skin slowly but surely sealing back up, leaving him good as new... well, not exactly, but considering the situation...
Henry Goldringer had flown out to the crater-front of Africa to offer aid where he could, he had a healing factor that could hopefully patch some people up and help in any other way he would be able to. He knew that it wasn't exactly a safe place, but nothing could have truly prepared him for the war zone that he would soon find himself in, and right now he was in full on crisis mode. The camp had been raided by these monsters, and if they were short handed before, they were a skeleton crew at this point. There just wasn't enough personnel to go around, and it was obvious the relief efforts were spread too thin. But all that meant to him was that he needed to really step up to the plate and take on more if that's what they needed him to do. And right now there was a building full of incapacitated people and he was the only thing between them and this hungry monster that had no signs of quitting.
As he got himself back rearing to go, Henry could already see that this monsters attention was beginning to move toward the patient ward, to which Henry grit his teeth. With a deep breath, he brought his fingers to his lips and let rip an ear piercing whistle, then a powerful shout, beating his hand against his chest. "Hey ugly, you thinking of seconds when you haven't even finished the main course?! I'm not through with you yet!" With an exhausted jog, he began running back up the road headlong toward this monster. He wasn't sure how in the world he was going to take this thing down, he just knew he had to do it quick.

For a human, he wasn't doing terrible against a hollow that far outclassed him. Just somewhere from bad to worse. It was like the hollow was picking at him like a toy playing some game. But perhaps it was this special power the young adult had that kept him going. whatever he did, when he touched his body the grim sight of his body improved. Nothing completely healed but certainly managed. A golden light shined around him, his broken arm creaking and snapping back into place. Minor injuries sealing slowly, their bleeding stopping fully and perhaps not even leaving scars.
Tento's eyes narrowed as he took in the scene before him. The bloodied man, standing defiantly against the towering hollow, was a testament to human resilience. The man was definitely giving a valiant but desperate struggle. He admired the sheer will and determination, but he knew that if this continued he would be dead and the hollow would go on to eat the defenseless. Making his actions all for nothing. His energy was dropping while the hollow's malevolent presence loomed larger with each passing moment.
Tento sprang into action, his zanpakuto gleaming in the light as he moved with lightning speed. Slashing the hollow's arm as he made a move to swipe at Henry before quickly turning around and unleashing a vertical slash from the ground that split the hollow's mask in two. Tento turned towards the man giving a respectful nod as he gave a quick look over at him. "I'll take it from here," he called out, his voice commanding and firm. "You've done more than enough. Get some rest a little, you'll have to fight more later."
It was easy to see that that was only one of many hollows. For after Tenti finished speaking a crack in the air would be felt as the spiritual pressure of several more hollows shook the air. Turning on his heel, Tento faced another towering hollow, its grotesque form towering over him like a nightmarish monument as it slithered out of the shadows. The air was thick with tension, every second feeling like an eternity. Drawing upon the depths of his spiritual energy, Tento infused his zanpakuto with a fierce determination that shook the air in a tense battle against the hollows before beating back its energy.
With a roar, the hollow charged at him, but Tento was ready. He dodged to the side, his blade slashing through the air with precision and force. The hollow howled in pain, its form wavering under the onslaught as Tento stabbed and cut all around its body. It was faster than the last hollow and seemed to put a focus on protecting its mask. But all the same Tento pressed the attack, each strike fueled by his unwavering resolve to protect the people behind him.

Henry watched as this unexpected visitor tore through the monster like butter, immediately feeling a weight lifted off of his shoulders. With his iconic grin and thumbs up, Henry offered his wordless thanks to the man as he attempted to get out of his way. His lights flickered briefly for a moment, stumbling and nearly face planting before catching himself. Maybe he had alittle more taken out of him than he had expected, as much as he would love to hang out and chat, maybe he did need to take a minute or two to rest. Stumbling into the doorway of the hostel he had been so desperately trying to protect, he collapsed down onto his ass and leaned his back against the wall, breathing heavily and running his hand back through his sweat sodden hair. He really was running on fumes, he could surely go for a cold glass of milk right now. Scooching around closer to the doorway, he peered outside onto the street to see the action, wiping the remnants of blood and grime from his face as he did.

For a moment Tento had a moment of concern as he watched the man's body stumbled as he nearly face planted, an act the hollow used to swipe at Tento, landing a bash to his side. A mild groan came from the impact as Tento's feet slid against the ground. With its follow up attack Tento met it with a slash of his blade. He got caught off guard once, the hollow wouldn't get another chance.
Tento's eyes focused on the hollow before him, now that Henry had managed to find some respite. A soft smirk on his face from a bright smile and thumbs up was given. He had that much of a positive look in times like this? Was he one of those ‘smile even through the darkest of nights’ type of guy? Seeing the human's determination and resilience fueled Tento's resolve even further. Tento told him to rest up, he really couldn't do that if Tento was going to mess up and let this hollow pressure him!
With a swift motion Tento dodged another attack from the hollow, his zanpakuto slicing through the air with deadly precision as he pivoted toward the twisted soul. Each strike was calculated, aimed at weakening the hollow and protecting the people behind him. The air crackled with spiritual energy as Tento infused his strikes with his spiritual pressure, cutting into each limb tossed his way in their relentless barrage. The hollow howled in pain, its form wavering under the onslaught. Tento pressed his advantage, his movements a blur of speed and power. He was a whirlwind of focused energy, each strike bringing him closer to victory.
But the hollow wasn't going down without a fight. It lashed out with surprising speed, its claws slicing through the air just inches from Tento's face. He narrowly dodged his movements fluidity as he took a deep breath, but the close call served as a stark reminder of the danger he was facing. Tento's eyes narrowed in concentration, his breath steady as he circled the hollow in a burst of speed. The creature was faster and more cunning than he had anticipated, using its size and speed to keep him on the defensive. But Tento was relentless. He parried a series of rapid strikes, his blade moving with a speed that seemed supernatural. "Tough bastard aren't yea!?".

Catching his breath and watching the incredible display that this guy was giving fighting off these monsters, Henry felt the lightning once again coursing through his veins. He was already recovering from his tussle, and before long was feeling back to tip top shape. Well, not exactly but... considering the circumstance, he could be much worse off. And good timing, because bad timing had reared its ugly head. Above him, Henry felt crumbles of stone and concrete trickle down, a prelude to the chaos that would follow. One of those beasts hooked its claws in through the roof like a can opener and peeled it up to create an opening, the rubble already beginning to rain down and crush the tables and dividers scattered about the impromptu recovery ward. Dropping down with an earth shaking thud, the hulking freak landed in the middle of the room, greedily looking about at the buffet that laid before him.
Henry dragged himself up to his feet as quickly as he could muster, picking up a hunk of rubble and hurling it at the back of the things head. "Oh no you don't, buddy. They're off limits!" Rolling his shoulders and shaking loose his hands, he curled them once again into tight fists, wrapping the tatters of his shirt around his knuckles as he approached. The monster swung its head around to face him, gurgling in confusion, before roaring in response and charging Henry with the swipe of a claw. Bracing himself, Henry ducked and weaved the strike, brushing the side of his fist against the monsters claws to bump it to the side just enough to get in close, letting loose an uppercut with every ounce of strength he could. The roar was stopped short as its jaw clacked closed, the punch enough to lift him up off of his feet and tumbling backward through the building, his weighty build rattling the walls as he skidded to a halt. Henry lit up the room with a grin as he his chest heaved. That'll show ya.
But his triumph was short lived. This brute had barely been scratched it seemed, and all he really did was make it mad. Red gleaming eyes looked back at him from the dim medbay, before a blue light tore through the building, Henry's eyes growing wide. Ducking and grabbing one of the tables that had been snapped in half, he braced himself as the Cero blasted him. The energy singed and incinerated the wood as it sent him skidding backward out of the doorway back onto the street. All Henry held in his hands now was a smoldering hunk of charcoal, looking down to see streaks of burns covering his body, blood beginning to well up in all of the freshly sizzling wounds. Dropping down to a knee, Henry's wounds once again glowed with glittery golden light as they began to slowly seal back up. Looking to the man that had come to the rescue, he flashed another grin and thumbs up, sweat dripping down his forehead as he called out, "All good! No worries... we got this..." His words trailed off as if trying to convince himself. Rising back to his feet, the man charged back in through the darkened doorway, ready for Round 2.

As Tento kept up the engagement with the hollow, a pulse of energy gave him the terrible realization that these hollows were smarter than they let on. He had hoped that his high spiritual energy would make him a better snack target, but the injured were easy prey. And the hunters moved in. As Tento stepped under and cut the hollow's right arm off, he gleamed out the corner of his eye to spot a hollow on top of the roof. Hooking irs clash in before peeling it back like it was an orange. The stone and earth flipping into the air with a lack of care as the debris came down like a meteor shower, forcing Tento to flash step away from the hollow he was facing as it let out a hollowing wale.
Tento took a step forward to give Henry aid but the hollow split opened the ground where he stood, trying to cause Tento to fall into the earth's crust. With a hop away Tento gave an annoyed, “tch”. Alright then. If he had to finish him off first he would have to make it quick then. Thankfully he could sense Henry's energy still going strong. As much of a strugglenhe was going through he seemed to give each hollow that faced him a heck of a fight.
As the hollow charged again, its grotesque form looming over Tento like a nightmarish monument, he channeled his spiritual energy into his left hand. A bundle of energy quickly built up before being fired from his index fingertip. His eyes locked onto the hollow charging head-on toward him, its jaws wide open, ready to bite. The air around him crackled with raw power as it was unleashed. In a wordless incantation, a slim Hadō #4 shot forward as a concentrated bolt of lightning. The bolt pierced through the hollow's mask, shattering it into fragments. The hollow let out a final, anguished roar as the lightning bolt erupted from the back of its head, in that moment of pause Tento lunged forward cleaving through the hollow's mask as he ran forward towards Henry as he re-entered.
Tough dude managing to brace through a cero. But this situation was starting to escalate more and more. He had to plan and do something.

With ragged breathing and sweat streaming down his brow, Henry re-entered the darkened building to try and knock alittle more sense into the monster that lurked inside. As his eyes adjusted, he saw the looming figure in the shadows, hunched over one of the beds and already plucking at the person that laid atop it, picking them up by their shirt like a bag of apples in the grocery store. Henry's expression dropped as he sprinted toward the monster headlong, thought slipping from his brain as he ran on instinct and adrenaline. As he ran, he felt the sword fella entering the doorway behind him, feeling a sense of relief. Now they just needed to get this guy the heck out of here and away from these people. They were like sitting ducks to these hungering wolves, and he already felt them getting overrun. As Henry ran toward the monster, his squeeking sneakers and stomping feet made his approach obvious, the Hollow swiveling its head around and roaring once again, hooking a claw into the now empty gurney and flinging it at him like it was a paperclip. Tensing up and skidding on the ground, Henry was barely able to slide under the tumbling bed, closing the distance now finally enough to leap through the air to grapple onto the limply hanging individual this monster had chosen to snack on first, ripping it out of his claws and careening onto the floor behind him, skidding to a halt on his back as he braced the patient on his chest with a grunt and a thud.
This was close quarters madness, but he wasn't going to let this guy touch another one of these people without getting through him first. Glimmering from the darkness, Henry's eyes pierced through to look to the man that had come to give them backup. He was going to need some help now..
