Helle Armstrong | The Grand Savant
I. Basic Information
» Name: Helle Armstong
» Alias:
» Age: 22
» Gender: Female
» Association: The World
» Appearance Written:
Helle has long gold hair which reaches down to the small of her back. Though, she usually braids her hair and forms it into a tight bun on the back of her head. Down either side of her face is a lock of her hair forming bangs across her forehead. Sometimes a strand or two get displaced over her eyes. She has slanted eyes, full lips, and a thin face with a pointed jaw and soft cheekbones resembling a heart shape. Her looks may make some think of her as having Asian genes, but she is European completely with fair skin milky skin. She has emerald, green eyes that sometimes appear sea green in the correct light. Though, recent events have given her gaze a sickly yellow hue. Her nose is small but pointed at the end. Some may think her gaze somewhat difficult to keep prolonged contact with for long due to her regal expressions and lack of expression.
Built like a true Armstrong, Helle has a strong body from years of working out since she was little. Though, her physique is not overly exaggerated. She is more on the lean side than the muscular side, but her muscles are taut and tight. Helle stands at a height of 5 feet and 10 inches. Though, heels make her seem at least 2 inches taller. Her bust is fairly large (D cup) with her body in a slightly buff hourglass shape due to her training. Her height seems mostly supported by her leg length having long slender legs that end around her thighs with a nice amount of muscle nearing her waste. Her body is covered with minor scarring from fighting and accidents; the most notable being a thin line running down her right thigh. Now, Helle sports more scars, mostly on the left side of her body.

I. Personality
>A Harsh Compassion: If anything, no one can deny Helle’s passion for the cause she strives for. The way she dangerusly continues forward despite the opposition to complete a goal is truly admirable. Though, it’s not only her goals that moves her. It is also the goals of her brethren. Through her own trials, she has gained an understanding towards others who walk a path just as she does. This does not mean she agrees with every step they take, but she understands how difficult it can be, and she is not one to keep her hand closed to those who outstretched theirs to her. In fact, she shows all respect when respect is due. Even her opponent’s unwavering desire moves her heart despite how she must cut them down. She is a person who is always there when needed, always ready to lend a hand, an ear, or even words of advice to all who request or require it. However, she is not one to hold her tongue in giving advice. She will reprimand out of love, she will scold because she cares, she will punish to teach a lesson. All of it is because she cares for those and wants all to succeed, but succeeding is a long and cruel task that requires lessons of all kinds, good and bad, for she had to learn herself through trial and error. Do not take her demeanor or roughness for cruelty because it is all for the betterment of those around.
>Tired and Aged: Helle, for her lack of care for herself, has deteriorated greatly from physical and mental trauma. No longer does she shine brightly, a beacon of hope for the world. She is now but a lonely flicker that lays bare the truths of reality. Losing much of her joyous aptitude, there hangs an eternal dread about the woman. She can smile, laugh, enjoy herself and act as good company, but everyone will undoubtedly feel the weight of her sadness, eternally at her side. Maybe that’s simply her becoming more mature, accepting that this is how things are and growing from it. It is undeniable that there is just an overall tiredness about her that seems non removable and powerful.
>Overworking Guardian: Helle loved her fellow Quincy. However, she finds herself seeing them as she sees every other person that exists, a simple fact of the world. She will work to protect them as she does every other person because that is her duty. People who find themselves on the brink of destruction, their hope smashed and broken; those are the ones Helle shall work tirelessly to save. She understands what it means to no longer have a light to show the way, and it’s her duty to make sure no one has to suffer through any pain as she has. The opinions of those around her matter little when it is time to mobilize.
>Sullen Prodigy: Helle’s mental ability was one of her best qualities. She still boasts the mental ability she’s held since young, but there’s a more malicious air about it. As much as she can see the correct answers, she can see the wrong ones just as vividly. Maybe it’s for the best that she can now order cruel tactics with ease. Her mind is still never faltering, only broken by the nightmares that come to her when she sleeps and during the day. Even then, when she is broken, she knows no other salvation than to force herself to continue forward.
>Gentle and Cruel: A woman, transformed, Helle still carries her gentleness, but she has now become extraordinarily harsh when she deems fit. Her strong hand has become something otherworldly. Just as quickly as she’ll encourage a person, she’ll tell them off. Her form of helping others has shifted to match her duties.
>Headstrong: One can see that Helle believes in herself and her abilities, but some will learn that she may think herself a bit too highly for her own good. Her thoughts come out with little filter at times even if correct. Sometimes she may speak words that were better kept unspoken. Advice is taken, but her feelings are sure to rear their ugly heads at times when she feels the wrong decision has been made. She is the first to raise her voice. She is the first to enter the battlefield. She is the last to leave. Sometimes she moves disobeying orders believing her thoughts better at the time. Though, despite how unreasonable she can be at times, she does attempt to understand the way others see things and fight against her own stubborn nature, but half the time, she finds herself unable to bend.
I. History
>>Birth<<
During the year 2399, a baby was born. However, this child’s birth was brought forth by necessity rather than natural means. On October 3rd, the last two Armstrongs were killed cruelly by a Vaste Lorde and its gaggle of Hollow while the two were on vacation in Karelia, Russia. Tragedy after tragedy has continued to befall this once esteemed Quincy family. From being considered one of the strongest families for being part of the firsts to be bestowed the ability to defend their realm by Nozomi, the original Quincy, the Armstrongs slowly decayed into nothing more than a common name, and even after that, they descended further into irrelevance due to the many tragedies that befell the Quincy time after time. Only one remained after the tests of time that married another True Blooded Quincy, and on this day, even his journey ended in bloodshed. Though, by the grace of whatever God that watches this lowly Earth, the sole dying female was able to force herself into labor to save their child, the true final Armstrong.
Her name is Helle Armstrong. She was discovered by other Quincy after the massacre on that day thanks to Helle’s mother sending out a distress call during the attack. Her father was discovered dead surrounded by craters and destroyed homes full of death. It seems that he was successful in deterring the attack, but he was forced to sacrifice himself, and even then, it wasn’t enough to defeat the Vaste Lorde. Helle’s mother had suffered a serious wound to her stomach due to coercing the Vaste Lord to come for her in a one on one engagement that ended with her suffering a fatal blow to her chest while delivering one herself, an arrow through the Vaste Lorde’s face. Helle was born right after due to her mother using her Reishi Manipulation to coax Helle into arriving early by opening her own stomach. Helle’s mother could not allow her only child to suffer such a fate similar to her parents, and the Armstrong bloodline had to continue if all else failed. Helle was rescued from her dead mother’s arms bloodied and crying.
Taken to the base of the Vandenreich located in Antarctica, Helle was treated like a rare gem. Due to her lineage, only the most qualified were allowed to handle her. Helle being the last of her family meant much to the already heavily damaged race. Despite her namesake being nothing more but a relic at this time and age, the potential of what she could become if groomed correctly dismantled any argument pertaining to allowing her the chance to decide between a normal life or a life dedicated to the Vandenreich’s cause. Helle’s life was ordained before she even had the ability to choose her own fate. However, life is rarely truly stagnant or linear, and as Helle experienced life for herself, her destiny became something she decided to control, and even as a young girl, she held fast to her own ideals.
>>1-5<<
Helle’s early youth was nothing spectacular. There is little one could do with a child at the young age of one. However, it was agreed upon that one of the female Quincy of a noble family shall be used as a Godmother. The Quincy chosen was a woman who had lost her child at birth due to complications. Her duty was simply to nurse Helle until the child was of adequate age to begin her studies, where then, Helle would be placed in a more suitable home within the Vandenreich with a personal tutor to test and groom her abilities while also teaching her of the Quincy way. It was also agreed upon that knowledge of her lineage and the demise of her parents would be kept secret until she is of an appropriate age.
Helle’s transfer did not occur until she was three. At this point, she had learned how to walk and had a basic understanding of languages spoken around her to form small words and adequately follow speech if need be. Normally, separating a child from their mother, even if the individual is not their true mother, would be met with protests from the child. However, Helle showed little concern for the separation. Maybe she could tell that the woman watching over her wasn’t her real mother or maybe she simply thought nothing wrong of her situation.
This is around the time her early childhood training began. First, she was tasked with perfecting her ability to read, write, and talk. With her instructor guiding her everyday with many nights of practice, Helle was able to grow in such skills easily showing a unique ability for learning that few children actually show. By the age of four, she had shown that she had an intelligence that far surpassed any other child around her age besides gifted children similar to herself. This simply meant that she breezed through her studies without qualm or worry and, once at the age of five, it was determined that she’d begin her official Quincy training. Surely, a girl as gifted as Helle, blessed by her ancestry and powerful bloodline, will have no troubles in perfecting the art of her brethren.
>>5-10<<
Some expressed a concern for training a child so young in the arts of the Quincy, but many also felt that Helle had the ability to prosper at her young age and grow into a splendid Quincy capable of much. And, so, her training commenced. The first part of her training was to test her affinity for manipulating Reishi. This was done simply by giving her specialized toys to play with: dolls, building blocks, and fake weapons. These toys had two functions that made them special. The toys had the ability to stimulate Reishi in the area much like other technology used to invoke and wield Reishi with the idea that it would passively coax Helle’s Reiryoku into becoming more reactive to the Spiritual Particles around her. Their second function is to train Helle’s ability to control Reishi. Simple interaction with the toys required for one to have the ability to control the flow of Reishi: to lift the doll’s arms up needed one to force the Reishi around the doll to move, the blocks would never sit on one another with the Reishi around them stabilized, and the weapons were glued to the floor with Reishi until Helle unstuck them. All this was for the sole purpose to nurture her energy and slowly, Helle’s mind subconsciously began controlling the Reishi around her so she could better play with the toys she had never had in her life. It used the childlike interest in interactive items to mold them to do certain tasks for what they desired. Children are determined, and Helle showed an unnatural determination which was expected due to the headstrong nature of the Armstrong family.
The Elders did not expect for Helle to exert such power at her age, but in only five months, she was easily able to manipulate all objects given to her with complete ease. This surprised everyone. There have been few with such an affinity to Reishi to be able to manipulate it at the age of five, and Helle was held in high esteem for such a feat. It was decided immediately that the would be propelled through lessons to achieve greater heights. For two years, she was subjected to Reishi Manipulation training and general studies such as history, math, reading comprehension, and science. It was a tiring childhood for Helle filled with barely any free time for herself to be a kid. Though, near the end of her initial training, Helle had become rather adept at applying the main Quincy ability to whatever she wished. In fact, she had an abnormal ability to manipulate Reishi, showing an ability to not only use basic Blut but also showing the ability to use it for mundane tasks such as lifting small objects by using the Reishi around it as a medium. Before even reaching the age of ten, Helle was given her Quincy Cross to train with. Her excellency and work ethics were simply too brilliant for any to consider not pushing her to her limits and test boundaries.
Now, at this time, Helle found a bit of difficulty at the task given to her. Create a Quincy bow. Unlike before, she couldn’t just concentrate on an object and watch as the Reishi simply bent to her will at ease. Here, she had to actually form it together into a cohesive object and then infuse it with her own Reiryoku to form fireable arrows. Of course, at first, Helle was unable to accomplish this task. In fact, it seemed her ability to control Reishi in her environment didn’t correlate with her ability to manipulate it in quite the manner required to form a Quincy bow. With that in mind, Helle became obsessed on furthering her progress. She showed an obsession that was similar to when she wished to play with the toys given to her. Everyday she would simply sit and focus on the Cross given to her straining her mind and Reiryoku to try and form her spiritual weapon. It came to such a dire point, that she was forced to stay in bed and stop straining for it became a deterrent to her health. She would get nosebleeds and headaches from overexertion, her body would be sore and tired, and her energy reserves were always low. It was then, that it was decided that she would be given an item to help her for she lashed out ferociously whenever the Elders tried to stop her and take the Cross away. In an attempt to keep Helle from killing herself, she was given a Quincy Bangle, a tool designed to mitigate the stress of gathering Reishi to form a bow for weak or powerless Quincy.
Helle hated it. The bracelet took away the challenge of forming a bow, but she at least understood its function. With it, she was able to actually form a bow, but it was small and took the form of a basic bow that most low leveled Quincy are capable of making. This only made her strive harder for perfection. For a nine year old, she showed admirable dedication to her own cause. Even with the Bangle, she spent every day working on her own personal growth. She gave up on lessons that did not pertain to growing her spiritual prowess and energy. Everything she did while training was geared towards forming a Quincy bow with her own abilities and not a tool. Slowly, but surely, Helle became able to rely less and less on the Bangle as her own ability grew. Through sheer dedication and guts, one day, she removed the device. After a whole year of constant training, she became able to form a bow using only the Quincy Cross. It wasn’t the best bow, but the fact she had accomplished something she, herself, wished to achieve was all that mattered. She was proud of her blue blow, but it was far from adequate to be used in any other situation besides practice. She had a lot of room to grow, but like everyone said. She’s a hard-working genius. She was able to grow tremendously in strength. The next tasks set before her will be nothing compared to her insurmountable will.
>>10-15<<
There was little to do besides continue training. At this point, Helle decided on her own to congregate with other young Quincy like herself. When she was younger, she was alienated from others because of her unique bloodline. There was fear that something may occur, and if the Armstrong name was extinguished due to negligence, then all would feel liable for such and none wished for that. This is why Helle was groomed at such a young age to be capable to handle herself. Due to her rapid progression, she was able to save herself from a life of solitude. Though, being around others had its own unhelpful stipulation. The others were usually older than her, and kids her age didn’t have the skills she did. Due to this, Helle found herself alone in a new way she’s never experienced: rejection. She didn’t exactly fit with anyone else due to her gifted skills and youth. It made life a bit difficult for her and caused her to feel depressed whenever she’d try to include herself and be left out. However, this experience made her more determined.
The Elders liked her ability, and everyone else was jealous. That’s what she concluded. She was better than them is all. That’s why they didn’t care much for her, and with that in mind, she decided to care little for them as well. She will simply grow stronger for her own recognition. She doesn’t need anyone to tell her anything about herself. As long as she is happy with her own growth, that is all that matters. Those were her initial thoughts anyhow at the time. Day after day after studies, Helle would find herself on her own training with her bow creating arrow after arrow, flexing her ability to control Reishi to its absolute limit until exhaustion forced her to stop. Helle was unrelenting in her quest to the point that she began to excel past her fellow Quincy near her age. She had to gain their respect. No. She wanted to grow stronger for herself. At some point, the line between self improvement and wanting to show how much better she is than everyone else began to mix. It merged until not even Helle knew what she was training for. She simply did because it was all she knew how to do.
Though, it was at the age of 13 that she made an almost fatal mistake. She was told that she was not ready for the Sanrei Glove. Despite her progress and extraordinary growth, such a taxing training tool would surely be too difficult for her. Yet, she desired it; her greediness to grow shrouding her better judgement. It was decided that her young body couldn’t handle it just yet, but she decided to go against what she was told and took a glove for herself. That day ended with her being taken to critical care. The immense stress that Glove caused her, along with her already bad health style, turned out to be too much for Helle to handle causing her heart to give out on her. She barely survived, and it was then declared that she would stay out of any training for the whole year. Her lifestyle had become too severe and dangerous for a girl her age. She was forced to accept learning simpler things instead of training such as Quincy history. Though, she only wanted to learn one thing seeing how she was forced to remain in general care: the name Armstrong.
For a year, she was told stories about her surname. Legends, fables, historical facts about the Armstrongs were told to her. She spent her year reading up on them in an attempt to understand where she came from. She learned that her general aggressiveness was a common trait of Armstrongs. Her family was always at the forefront of every conflict and dated back to even the beginning when the one known as Nozomi came and first blessed the Quincy. Her family fought alongside Ywach against the Shinigami. Her family were people who never faltered and usually ended up dying in battle. It was expressed to her that she should avoid following in such footsteps. She was told the Quincy required scholars instead of warriors during these times where existence was threatened by Demons, Vastime, and the Gotei. However, she took such advice differently than she should.
A year had past, and she was allowed to continue training, albeit at a slower pace to ensure her heart does not get overworked again, but she did not continue training. Instead, she asked to travel. She did not exactly specify where she wanted to go, but she did clarify that the location of where she wished to travel was somewhere in Russia. At first, people were hesitant about letting her go, but she had already packed up all her things and was already heading out the door with or without their blessings when the news was brought to her that her trip would be funded. It didn’t take long for her to reach her destination though. From the stories of her lineage, she learned of some special area that used to be the base of the Armstrongs like a secret fortress. However, none knew of this area. The only reason Helle knew was because of the hidden text that was only readable by those of Armstrong blood. With her smarts, she deciphered the text and eventually stumbled upon an old temple located deep within some icy tundra within Russia.
Stumbling through darkness within the ancient walls around her, Helle found herself within a large tomb. The tomb was obviously ancient due to the wear of the place and infective vegetation all about, but it still held a solemn regalness about it. Through small wondering, Helle found herself within the middle of the ancient sanctuary where an object that looked like an elaborate rapier lied. Curious, she grabbed hold of the item which caused a chain reaction. Helle could feel the Reishi within the area accumulate rapidly all around freaking her out and causing her to panic. The rapier in her hand, then suddenly bloomed like a flower; its guard and edge spiraling outward before forming a large lance in her hand. She could hear voices now all around her, whispers and songs that she couldn’t understand. In shock, she dropped the lance and began to retreat back where she came, but before she could make any good progress, the entrance to the tomb sealed shut and behind her she felt the Reishi in the area gather causing her to turn and see the mass of energy form into a ghostly old man.
Helle then discovered that this ghost is one of her ancestors, and he has appeared before her due to connecting his soul to the temple which reacted to Helle and caused the Reishi and his soul to form together into a Reishi ghost. Helle spent a good while from this ghost learning even more about eh Armstrongs and learning about the history of the Quincy from the very beginning form a being who existed since then. It was an enlightening moment for Helle, and it only got better when the ghost decided to teach her. That was his duty anyhow, to teach the newer generation of Quincy the secrets of the old. Besides, it was revealed to Helle that she had a special affinity for Reishi Manipulation passed down by her Armstrong blood that is unique to her peers. She has the ability to do more than just gather Reishi. She has the ability to control it in a plethora of ways that none have. And thus, her training began.
>>15-20<<
This began Helle’s grueling training regiment. Unlike what she was told back home, Helle found herself training harder than ever before. Much like with a Sanrei Glove, the Reishi ghost had the ability to control the flow of Reishi in the environment making it extremely difficult for Helle to gather it to use to create her bow which became her first task to complete. It was extremely difficult, especially due to Helle’s heart being weakened from the overexertion from her past, but the ghost kept her body stable throughout her training using his Reishi ghost tricks. Day after day, Helle would train to form a bow in her hand by collecting limited Reishi, and as she succeeded, the ghost would task her even more by limiting the Reishi she is allowed to use further and further naturally forcing her body to grow in its own Reiryoku and need less and less Reishi to be capable of performing the tasks assigned. This conditioned her body into not requiring loads of Reishi and when she does gather more than needed, it exponentially increases the power of her arrows. With her growth becoming evident each and every week, she soon was moved to a more grueling task, controlling Reishi not to empower herself but to affect the world around her.
Much like how the ghost was able to use Reishi to move objects and keep Helle’s body stable, Helle could do the same with training. It began slowly with Helle focusing on the Reishi around her and commanding it to not just come to her but to go to other objects around her. To be honest, it was simple to direct its flow, but it was an entire new thing to get it to affect objects other than herself. At first, she learned how to gather Reishi in a mass around something like a block of wood or a fallen pillar. With that done, she then was tasked with commanding the Reishi to move said object upwards or side to side which was difficult with how heavy the object was and how it resisted movement. Many times, the Reishi would just disperse if she strained herself. Much like everything Helle commits to, she spends every day training as months pass until she finally succeeds at moving objects within the area with ease. And with that done, the ghost decided to teach Helle about the weapon she had picked up when she first arrived.
Serathiel. It was named after the Quincy who created it so long ago. The rapier is an extremely powerful weapon used by only the strongest of Quincy who was esteemed as an outstanding general during the true beginning of the Quincy race. Helle would learn to weild it. Thankfully, it functioned as any rapier would. Helle was told she was not ready to learn how to truly use it and would require more training. Though, it is around this time that the Reishi ghost noticed something about the outside world. He could feel the deaths of many Quincy. Of course, he did not tell Helle knowing the girl would rush off to try and save her brethren, but he knew she would end up dead if she did, so he kept her there training and grooming her skills until one day, he had nothing else for her to learn.
She was 19 at the time when the ghost brought her to a spot and told her to lie down and close her eyes. Helle didn’t quite understand what the plan here was. She was rather ready to head back home after training for so long. She exclaimed her joy at growing so strong in such a short amount of time. How long had it been? A few months? Though, that was when she is told that she’s been in the tomb for years and that the ghost manipulating the space around the area to make time seem different than with the outside world. What was only four months, was actually four years. Helle couldn’t believe what she was told and argued to be released but was refused being told she had one task left to complete before being ready to return. She was told that she will inherit the ghost’s memories and thoughts. She will see the history of the Quincy from his eyes and gain a power beyond anything she could think possible for her.
It didn’t take long for Helle to agree sympathizing with the ghost’s wishes to leave the temple with her as his host, but before she slept, she asked for the ghost’s name. He told her it was Mikhael. And, so, Helle slept. Her body entered into a deep sleep sustained by the Reishi in the area. In fact, Mihhael began merging her body with the temple’s energy slowly accustoming her body to the large amount of Reishi being infused into her which also meant his soul would become one with hers. His thoughts, dreams, and ideas merged with her own as the past zoomed before her closed eyes.
When she did awaken, a whole year had passed. She knew this. Could feel it. In fact, she could feel the world around her as her own energy began to expand from her person outward stretching out from the temple and mingled with life itself. There was a boom of energy from the temple as she rose with Reishi and Reiryoku dancing around her in harmony. She could hear the disturbance as Hollow began filing in the area attracted by the sudden spike. Helle moved slowly gathering the armor that was left for her by Mihkael and took hold of Serathiel. Slowly, the blade in her hand unfurled into its spear form as she held it up towards the ceiling. Those next moments, two things occurred: all Reishi in the area suddenly vanished without a trace, and moments later, it was released upwards into the sky melting the air itself with raw raging Reishi energy manipulated to eradicate all around killing the Hollow that had spawned and leaving a crater that had devoured the temple. All that remained stepping out from that hole was Helle Armstrong.
>>20-22<<
A lot has happened to the once proud Director. She has watched her men fall in battle, understood and lost love. Now, all that remains of her is but a shadow of the powerful savant. Reduced to a wheelchair with her body barely capable of movement, Helle finds herself trying to understand her place in a world that has left her to rot, not once, but twice. The cries of her brethren stir her little from her sullen state, but since she still breathes, she has yet to simply allow her life to be smothered. Maybe there's something left for her but finding that cause for her continued existence may just lead her to an unsavory end.
And, that savory end came upon her after the startling traumatic events of Ichigo's invasion. Her home left in ruins, Helle found herself at a truly awful place, mentally and physically. In the end, she almost took the very last thing she truly owned: her life, but thanks to the efforts of those who care about her, she made it out of that scary situation. Now, with an experimental surgery underway to restore her body to its previous physical state and repurpose her damaged soul, the Director looks to become the protector she once was. Though, she now comes with a new conviction, a drive to overcome an obstacle that threatens her peace of mind and the things she's come to love. Let it be Demons, Arrancar, or Shinigami, Helle no longer has mercy for life after her own had been threatened so by the cruelty of existing. Now, she walks, alone if she must, against the ever-damning fates before her.
