Test the Limits [Laskt/Sol/Dragon]
Mon Jan 31, 2022 12:26 am
A Dragon | Nothing More, Nothing Less
The modern human realm was strange, especially to she who had just woken up for the first time in centuries. It felt as if The Dragon had been freshly born into a whole new world after the cities she had witnessed. Everything was more... advanced? Developed? She kept on thinking about all the things she had seen as she casually flew through the skies. Humans relied so much on technology now, though. She couldn't help but feel like that would play into her favor, hubris be damned. Time would pass and surely her arrogance would get her in trouble, but for the time being she was content to relish in her freshly empowered body. It felt like nothing could stop her. Now if only there was something for her to combat so that she could prove this...
And sure enough, there was. Two beings actually, a fairly strong presence and one fairly less strong but still potentially worth eating. The Dragon felt how good of an opportunity this was and took it without hesitation or second thought. There was nothing that could stop her anyways. She was sure of it.
With a flap of her wings, The Dragon came to a stop in the air and peered down at the two presences she could distinctly feel. Standing on her own spirit energies was nothing new to her, it was how she flew with her fucked up wings anyways. Once she was firmly planted in place, she rose her wings, and from the gaps in her old destroyed nerves formed small balls of energy. No doubt the other two could feel her charging up this barrage of cero. She wasn't here to kill, she was here to test her limits at the expense of these two unfortunate souls. Ten beams seemed to be the highest amount she could power at once, but that was much more than she used to be capable of charging up. And after several seconds worth of charging, they were let loose upon these two poor souls. Ten gray cero screamed through the air loudly, most aimed directly at her targets and a few around just to give them more to handle. The Dragon greatly anticipated their response, wanting oh so desperately to see how the powers of the modern world could handle her newfound strength.

Solhammond Palliser | GROWTH
“Yeah so I’ve been training with Captain Liana, fun stuff that. Terrifying.”
Solhammond would be talking to his temporary patrol partner, a man whom he hadn’t spoken too much. This was some type of joint-division patrol to try to foster new connections among the Gotei, one of the many initiatives undertaken under the Abalia regime. This guy was definitely a foreigner like Sol, and french actually! It was refreshing to practice the language.
Fun fact, about Solhammond Palliser, he was fluent in a handful of languages. Having grown up in a multicultural nation within Africa, now Vastime, the man could speak certain dialects of Arabic, French, and English at a fluent level. His acquirement of Japanese was passable, but he really didn’t focus on it until he got with the Gotei.
“Anyway, how do you-”
He went silent, his mid sentence. His head turned with a degree of alacrity and sharpness which betrayed the relaxed demeanor of the fighter. Then he saw it, his eyes widened. A fucking dragon. Oh no, not any dragon. A hollow one which seemed intent on charging up some attack against them, which Sol and Laskt would need to deal with. Thankfully they appeared to be charging it, as Sol wake took the initiative to start moving.
Sol didn’t have much to actively help him, but what he did have was his wits. He took three large steps forward, before he brought his foot downward into the earth with surprising strength. A large chunk of the earth would be kicked upwards, like a flat shield, his hands pressing against the giant chunk of concrete. He hoped Laskt might have something to lessen the burden, using these last few seconds to begin to empower the concrete wall with a generic barrier kido.
Wouldn’t do much but every little bit counted.

PREPARE TO ENTER THE VIZARD'S POST
Meeting in the Snow
"I feel for you my friend. Still, there is no better teacher for the healing arts."
A year had passed since Laskt's last earth-side assignment during the Battle of Karakura Central, and yet the Vizard Knight seemed much the same as ever. The same clothes still cloaked him from head to toe, his crop of blonde hair still hung messily from his head. However, unlike a year ago Laskt seemed more...relaxed, even a little more open. The surge of confidence he had gained during his defense of the city had done much to pull him out of his rut of blame and introvertedness, although the essential problems were still present. Most frustrating was the stalling in the progression of his powers, something that had only recently been overcome...
Someone seems to be getting quite full of zemselves no? You may have contrived some method to keep me restrained, but don't zink zat makes you ze second coming of Ulv Auber. Ze second you lapse in concentration is ze second I take my throne.
Grimacing, Laskt shook his head like a dog trying to shake water from its body. "Apologies, it gets noisy upstairs sometimes." He said, tapping the side of his head. While his newfound resolve had leashed Tozat somewhat, preventing the rampages that had plagued the early days of his resurgence, the Hollow was still far from benign. Every time he donned the mask, he could feel the bonds he had placed on the Hollow slip ever so slightly. Soon, he would need to have the discussion that Ulv had always said he would need, before her untimely passing.
The thoughts of Ulv saddened the Vizard, his expression darkening for a moment. Never again would the strange yet kind woman be there to assist him, never again could he seek reassurance in her absolute power. It was up to him now to master his abilities, carrying forth the gift she had given him. Still, he had to move foward, and the inter-division patrols that Abalia had set up had kept his mind occupied since Ulv's passing. If nothing else, talking to Sol had been an enjoyable distraction from the monotony of patrol.
Unfortunately, it seemed that peacetime would soon come to a close.
Laskt detected the energy buildup just as Sol did, Ceros if the energy signiature was anything to judge by. Laskt grimaced, ripping his Zanpaktou from its sheath and marshalling his powers. Whoever had ambushed them, they had some serious power: the Vizard Knight had only felt Ceros of this magnitude a few times in his life. Back in the Madness City, he had been helpless against them, and could only resort to his own Hollow powers to resist the fallen Vizard's blasts. He had been weak, cowardly, and unable to discharge his duty as a member of the Shinigami. Now however, it was different. Laskt was no longer a weakling that needed protection. The Shinigami raised the blade above his head, clasping it with both hands. A moment's hesitation, and then:
"Protect them, Junkyomaru."
An ancient Reiatsu of both Hollow and Shinigami erupted forth, carrying with it the feeling of ages long past. White flames that seemed to outshine the sun itself in their brilliance burst forth in a mighty wave, blowing past Sol and directly clashing against the oncoming Cero blasts. Sol himself would feel no pain from the fires that licked at his flesh, but instead a sort of peace, a clarity of body and soul even as the fires raged and spun around him. The massive blast punched a hole in the wave of corrupted reishi, forming a small pocket of safety from within the bombardment, leaving the Shinigami standing on a small plateau in the midst of a smoking crater. Of course, he was not alone. Within the blaze of white stood Laskt Matiche, the Vizard Knight, clad in the aura of his true power.
Laskt's Zanpaktou, the sword that had been with him for a thousand years of isolation, was no more. In its place was a massive broadsword, nicked and bloody but still razor sharp. The Vizard Knight's body was clad in a blue gambeson, breeches and heavy boots, with ornate, expertly crafted armor adorning the lower half of his body. Even as the Vizard Knight turned to face the oncoming threat, the armor would slowly creep up his body, becoming more and more complete even as his Reiatsu continued to climb.
"Come Sol, let's kick its ass." The Vizard Knight growled, raising his massive blade in a two handed grip and charging headlong at the Hollow Dragon with a flash-step. The power of his Shikai surged like a river within Laskt''s soul, and the sheer delight of finally letting go almost made him laugh aloud. Contrary to what one might expect, the armor seemed to magnify his speed even further, making him naught but a blue and silver streak, charging across the battlefield. Flames spilled from every pore as he launched another massive blast of Purity Flame to tear away at the Hollow's very essence....

A Dragon | Nothing More, Nothing Less
The Dragon blinked as her cero were dispersed by a strong blast of... flame? This white flamed man had released his true strength, transforming himself into a knight of fire, or at least partially. Only his lower half was armored? That seemed strange, but regardless that was fine. The other man though simply seemed fit to protect himself with the earth beneath him and some kind of kido. She knew not how it worked, but this was not the first time she had seen it. A sort of spiritual magic that Shinigami could use in battle, either to destroy or seal. That meant this other man was at least somewhat competent. And yet still, her attention was focused on the one immediately charging her.
While the one ran her down with his oddly colored fire, the remnants of her cero rained down around Sol. Most of it had been blasted away, leaving him and his barrier untouched, but some of them still crashed into the surrounding earth with loud, violent explosions. Bursts of flame and destroyed earth ruptured forth and threatened to pelt Sol if he didn't move, and if he had half a brain he would understand blocking was not an option here. Those cero would have torn right through both the earth and his barrier combined.
That occurred while The Dragon kept her attention on the more immediate problem of fire flying towards her. This man and his flames were fast, but so was she. Given the distance between them, she had plenty of time to fly up and over the flames, then dive back down towards her target. Maybe the flames would be an issue, but she had yet to find a Zanpakutou sharp enough to cleave her scales. And so as she ascended upwards, she curled her body and took a deep breath. A sudden burst of energy sprung outwards behind her as she leapt off of an invisible wall of her own energies, rocketing herself at the speed of sound towards her new assailant.
The Dragon let out a horrible, ear piercing shriek as she flew towards Laskt, her multiple jaws opened wide and her grisly teeth primed to snap shut the moment he was in range. She was not strong, but her teeth were more than sharp enough to pierce through any particularly unarmored flesh. Once she was close enough she would bite at him, and if she missed... well, she would simply turn, roar, and attempt to fly at and then bit the man again. And again, and again. Every time making some maneuver to dodge the flames and bite down on the man. What few flames that surrounded him would surely be snuffed out in moments. Right?

Solhammond Palliser | GROWTH
It was moments like this where Solhammond Palliser cursed his lack of shinigami skills, the fact he was still new to this life was a handicap in a world of super powers. While he was a top rate fighter, a brawler, he was not anywhere near proficient enough to have a shikai. The Katana which hung at his side was secured firmly by a white sash. It would be his ally in this moment, and hopefully his saving grace.
It appeared his senior had taken the initiative launching a counter-offensive. Unfortunately, Sol would still need to deal with the scattering of fire balls. Very well then. Instead of utilizing the raised earth as a barrier, he would instead use it as a platform to launch himself into the air. Jumping onto it, he squated down with enough force to create visible marks in the earth before pushing off. A loud ‘boom’ echoing as he did so, utilizing raw speed and strength that was definitely higher than expected of his reiatsu level.
Although he lacked the raw energy of some, he was by far one of the most physically balanced of fighters. And the Dragon might find the speeding form of Sol heading for them. The issue with this was that Sol was currently aiming to catch the side of her massive neck, intending to strike her when she went in for his senior, utilizing his now drawn blade. She might not have expected such an action, particularly because his speed was definitely not equal to his supposed raw power.
The benefit of being a physical fighter. With Laskt’s supposed help, they might be able to turn this battle.

LASKT
This Hollow was no run of the mil cannon fodder, that much was for certain.
Laskt grimaced as his attack went wide, the dragon dodging and ducking to avoid the Flames of Purity. His experience with this form was too little, leaving him with more of a blunt instrument rather than the finely honed weapons of war he knew other Shinigami possessed. Still, the Shikai of a thousand-year-old Shinigami was nothing to scoff at, and the Vizard felt a surge of pride as his powers clashed directly with that of the dragon, matching it strength for strength. His teachers had not instructed him in vain: today, the spirits of Ulv, Takehiko, Jaden and so many other were with him.
Despite being such a massive beast, the dragon hollow was terrifyingly fast, even faster than himself with his Shikai firing on all cylinders. Desperately, Laskt poured his spiritual pressure into his left foot, forming a foothold in the air and shoving himself aside as the dragon's teeth slammed shut. Even then, the dragon's razor-sharp fangs still opened a gash along his left arm, the blood scattering into the air as the two combatants blurred around at inhuman speeds. The following few moments were wrought with danger, as Laskt barely managed to avoid critical injury each time. Thankfully, Junkyomaru still had more power to give.
With a flash of white light, an ornate chestplate manifested on Laskt, causing his spiritual pressure to spike moderately upwards once more. When the dragon struck at him once again, some of the force of the attack seemed to mysteriously dissipate before it even reached the Vizard Knight's body. Laskt grinned, the superior durability and damage reduction two pieces of his armor granted him was certainly a significant advantage. This was not to say he was safe: the damage the dragon was inflicting was still significant even with the effects of his Shikai, but now he could better handle it.
It was at this moment that Sol arrived, moving far faster than Laskt could have dreamed given his energy reserves. Kicking off the dragon's snout, Laskt pointed the tip of his broadsword at the man, focusing. A soft yellow light would envelop the Shinigami, strengthening his morale and will. Additionally, some of Laskt's Purity Flames would envelop the man's sword, increasing it's cutting power and granting it the same anti-Hollow abilities as Laskt's own abilities.
"I'll keep eets attention! Strike from ze flanks, don't let eet get us both in front of anozer Cero barrage!" Laskt called over the awful noise of battle. Eyes locked on the dragon, the Vizard waited for it to come around for another biting attempt, then thrust his sword forward, attempting to launch a narrow beam of Purity Flames down the beast's throat. The dragon was durable to be sure, the pitiful effect the few slashes he had been able to get through proved that. However, would its internal organs prove to be similarly durable, especially considering the purifying power of the Purity Flame? Only time would tell.
- Info:
TLDR: Laskt takes damage from some dragon bites but avoids any crippling injuries. His chesplate manifests, activating his damage reduction and boosting his durability to allow him to take attacks on more even terms. Boosts Sol via Lionheart and cloaks his Zan in Purity Flames, and attempts to shoot a blast down the Dragon's Throat.- Abilities Used:
Lionheart: Upon acquisition of this stage, a soft golden glow begins to emanate from Laskt's body, encompassing himself and any other allies he has on the battlefield. This aura strengthens the will of anyone it comes into contact with, raising the morale of allies and purging outside mental influences and disrupting external control over emotions. The number of targets increases by one every tier Laskt is above 6-0. Unnatural fears and induced nightmares will vanish from the affected's mind, leaving behind courage and resolve. As Laskt's Shikai continues to evolve, this aura will only grow denser and denser, making it harder and harder to reliably puncture through the bulwark.
The effects of Lionheart work generally based upon Laskt's Focus versus his opponent's. If the being attempting to breach the protection is vastly more powerful than him, then Lionheart will serve little more than a stopgap. Additionally, Lionheart solely prevents internal mental interference. Illusions in particular are extremely effective, as they can completely bypass the effects of the ability.
Purity Flame: As the right arm manifests, Laskt's Sealed powers truly come into their own, losing a lot of restrictions that made them at best a hindrance for powerful foes. To begin with, the size restriction of the flames is greatly loosened, allowing him much more freedom to pressure foes from long distances without running out of firepower. In addition, as one might expect of Laskt's Shikai, the raw power of the ability is greatly heightened, making it extremely dangerous for most Hollows or Demons to come into contact with. The flames will tear away at the very essence of their being much like a Zanpaktou would, making it a good matchup against any attack or ability that utilizes the energy of said races.
The true power of the Purity Flame, however, is in the growth of it's purging ability. When the flame comes into contact with impure substances, such as poison, it begins to purify whatever it comes in contact with. This is by no means an absolute purification, as Laskt has not practiced this aspect of powers that much. Nevertheless, the raw Spiritual Power of the Shikai allows the Purity Flame to burn out most impurities if given enough energy. Most mortal impurities can be burned out with a post or two of exposure, while more powerful impurities (such as poison from a Shinigami's Shikai) can require much more expenditure of power. If potent enough, the flames might not be powerful enough to stop it.
However, the growth of this ability does not come without risk. Laskt's control over who the flames burn is weakened by Junkyomaru's influence, and it is no longer safe for allies who may be classified as 'evil' to encounter them (i.e. a friendly Arrancar)

A Dragon | Nothing More, Nothing Less
The dragon screeched in triumphant joy as she wounded the armored one, continuing her assault with renewed vigor knowing full well that she could wound this man. He was frail in comparison to her, impossible to not maim with how pathetic he was. But now that he was closer, she could see the quite literally growing problem. His armor was slowly covering more of his body, and now the very parts she had been snapping at were covered by protection. It angered her that this man hid away his body behind some pitiful armor. Her jaw opened and a horrible screech erupted from her scaly throat, piercing the air and vibrating both Laskt and Sol to the core.
And all she got in return was a sword to the neck and some flames in her mouth. But that was also the problem for her assailants.
Sol striking her neck would be met with an abrupt burst of some pale white vapor erupting forth in a several meter wide area. It would cover his whole body, and if he was any less durable he would have died then and there. Reacting fast enough would get him out of there before any serious damage was done, but his skin and clothes would be rapidly digested every moment he stood in her Effluvia. Laskt's flames in the meantime were met with a similar fate, though she didn't have Effluvia stored in her mouth. Instead she had to take the time to conjure it up in her throat, welling it up before roaring upwards to the sky and letting out a strong breath of pale effluvia that dispersed those pure flames just like they had done to her cero just moments before.
The dragon's scales had barely been chipped by Sol's blow even with his blade being wreathed in fire. Slashing strikes did little to her and if the two didn't realize it now, they would with a few more blows. Her mouth felt like it was still on fire though, but she would endure. It wasn't the end of the world, but why did it hurt so much? It's like it was made just to hurt her specifically or something. If she was smarter she'd realize it was some kind of anti-hollow attack, but she had no idea how powers like this worked.
"Pitiful." She grumbled to the two in front of her. Snapping her jaws shut with a menacing snarl, The Dragon turned her head to stare at her assailants with one glowing golden eye. "One of you can't cleave my scales and the other is holding back. Are you mocking me?" Her voice was gravelly and deep but otherwise effeminate; the only indicator that she was even female. "I came here to test my limits and so far all I've discovered about anything is the sheer audacity of two pathetic reapers who think they can kill me. Keep boring me like this and I'll put you out of your misery before you even reach your full power."
A deep, provoking chuckle rumbled through the air as she radiated arrogance in the general direction of Laskt and Sol. They were nothing to her, and they never would be.

Solhammond Palliser | GROWTH
When Sol landed his strike, it was true. However despite it being a clean empowered strike, he found the scales of this dragon to be hardened to a level he would need repeated strikes. Furthermore, it seemed she had some weird offensive-defensive measures which might prove difficult to overcome. As the acidic substance sprayed into the air, it forced Sol to close his eyes and grimace. As it touched his skin, it felt as if he was submerged in the hottest bath he had ever taken.
But surprisingly, he was no chump. His high grade durability was enough to allow him to sustain some contact, but being in it for any long amount of time would begin to do some serious damage to him. He would perhaps have the time to do one more action before he had to move away. So he reacted only way one he could: with audacity and creativity.
As began to push off of her neck, he utilized this time to cast a single minor kido spell. Bakudo #4. Hainawa. A golden tendril of energy would form from his hand, wrapping around the dragon’s neck with no real effect. The reason being this spell was usually utilized to bind an opponent, and clearly this might at most provide a minor discomfort around their throat as they roared and spoke.
As Sol was falling backwards, propelled by kicking her neck, he would close his eyes briefly. His focus on casting this next spell would mean a lot, least he fuck it up. Yes, he could feel it. He could see it, as his grey irises opened while falling downward.
“Great Raijin, travel the current of this body and express your will unto this meek form! Hadō #11. Tsuzuri Raiden!”
It was a well known fact that any Kido that was spoken with the full incantation was casted at it’s full, tremendous power. This particular kido spell sent a current of raw electricity through a connection to electrocute someone. A rather useful, and powerful spell for this moment. But it was not without it’s straining effects, as Sol poured a substantial amount of his focus and energy into it. His hand searing itself as he held onto the energy rope which was now growing unstable.
But as he fell downward, it might provide Laskt a true opening.

LASKT
This was perhaps the most infuriating battle Laskt had experienced so far.
He was used to being outgunned, out-sped and in general outpowered. But Laskt had never met an opponent that could simply ignore his attacks like a human would a fleabite. Even with his Shikai, it was all that he could do to merely annoy the giant dragon, let alone land a telling blow. And that wasn't even considering the Hollow's offense, which somehow had the potency to overcome his Purity Flame. Thankfully it seemed his flames prevented him from experiencing the same fate as Sol, but he was rapidly running out of offensive options. The dragon, however, didn't seem to have the same issues.
The Vizard absently flicked his greatsword, forming a cloak of Purity Flame around him, protecting him from the remnants of the effluvia, the poison crackling and popping as it ran headlong into the ability's purifying influence. The Hollow's piercing scream had telegraphed its emotions far before its horrible voice had sounded out across the empty air. Unlike the animalistic tendencies of other Hollows, this one seemed to be arrogant and prideful, and Laskt suspected it was those two emotions that had prevented the beast from killing them sooner. Laskt didn't bother responding to the dragon's little monologue, instead spotting Sol as the man began initializing his kido. Whatever his companion was planning, he had to take advantage of the slight opening, immediately. With a deep breath and a prayer to whatever god was listening, Laskt brought his free hand to his face.
It was pain. It was agony. It was every contradiction that Laskt had ever struggled with given life and form. Tendrils of Hollow energy crept down Laskt's armored form, turning the originally ornate steel into a dark, rusted black. From behind the horned helmet, Laskt's eyes glowed a red, and a low perpetual growl sounded from behind the mouthpiece. Combined with the left arm of his armor manifesting, Laskt's power surged forth once again, his Reiatsu slamming directly against that of the dragon.
With a scream of incoherent rage, Laskt brought down his sword in a sweeping blow, launching yet another wave of flame at the dragon. Unlike previously, however, this was no probing strike made of holy, purifying fire. The Vizard couldn't truly cut loose with Sol in the line of fire (nor did he dare to with the enraged spirits knocking at the edges of his mind), but it was clear that this attack was incomparable to the strength of his previous ones. In addition, if it the dragon was foolish enough to try and tank the blast, it would likely experience extreme amounts of pain as the Agonyflame sent thousands of pain signals screaming to its brain.
The Vizard wasn't done yet either, and, with a flash-step, charged headlong at the dragon, his speed and strength augmented by both his Shikai and Mask. Taking full advantage of his increased momentum, Laskt thrust his Agonyflame-coated blade forward with both hands, attempting to stab the weapon deep into the beast's glowing eye. However, the Vizard knight wasn't done, as several portals would open behind him, discharging four clanking chains that stretched around the beast's snout to stab at the dragon's other eye. With any luck, the Vizard could cripple the beast's vision, allowing the pair a chance in this battle.

The Dragon snarled in amusement as the weaker one disengaged immediately once he realized striking her was no longer an option. No matter how durable he was, The Dragon had yet to find someone able to completely withstand her effluvia. The whole world decomposed before her, and as far as she was aware, that was not subject to change here and now. What she hadn't expected however, was the rope that attempted to bind her, nor the electricity that coursed through it. Right, Shinigami and their Kido. This wasn't her first experience with it, but it had been so long since she last encountered a practitioner that it hadn't even come to mind as an option.
So not only was she bound now, she was being assaulted by... wait. What was this sensation? Was that a Hollow? Her golden reptilian eye peered down towards the armored man once more just in time for her to see the darkness crawling along Laskt's body. It reeked of Hollow, and yet this man was still a man. Shinigami had learned to use Hollow powers? The synapses in her brain fired a rageful red, her body overflowing with fury. This was an insult to the highest degree, for so many reasons, and she would not allow it to stand.
Her wings flared suddenly as effluvia flew outwards in every direction. The Dragon struggled violently against her binds, rageful adrenaline fueling her body through the paralyzing electricity pumping through it. Or at least, partially. Her muscles were on fire and she couldn't move more than a few inches, leaving her to withstand the agonyflame's assault on her body. Pain seared through her body, but still she let loose a mist of effluvia from her scales. This was just a natural reaction, her scales loosing the acid as she shook and flailed as wildly as she could while electricity was pumping through her scales, her skin, and into her muscles directly.
"You would mock me so?!" She boomed in furious confusion. "Your Shinigami powers are not enough, so you would stoop so low as to use a Hollow's instead?!"
The Dragon couldn't fucking believe this. She was pissed. But the magical rope and electricity were keeping her too out of focus to unleash her true power. And with Laskt rushing down her eyes, all she could do was try and defend. Even with the limits on her body, she was able to flail herself into a position where her eyes couldn't be hit. Instead, she took the hit to her snout and roared in agony as those flames caused immense pain the likes of which she'd never felt. The chains that were shot out buried into her jaw and cheek and Laskt's blade buried into her snout at least a third of the way, but her eyes were untouched still.
And with him so close The Dragon screeched and loosed a torrent of Effluvia from between its bared teeth. White misty vapor rushing forth from the gaps in her razor sharp teeth and expanded outwards all around her face. The chains that Laskt made, as long as they were covered in flames, would be fine. But the moment that went away, they would decompose. As for Laskt himself, being so close to her meant that he would be covered in Effluvial mist just a second after landing his blow. Of course standing in it would be dangerous, as any gaps in his flames would leave him vulnerable to being digested alive. The ropes binding her would also be weakened as they decomposed from the effluvia as well. All it would take is a few seconds and she would be free. Both Laskt and Sol would see it weakening. That left them three seconds to make one final attack before she was free. After that, they would be at her mercy, and she was going to make them pay.
