Return To Train? [HIME and OKUDA]
Wed Dec 29, 2021 12:17 pm
Inactivity Makes Weak Glass
Okuda slowly got out of his bed, it had been a while since he woke up from his coma, he was still quite stiff and feeling relatively weak. He knew it had been quite some time since he had fallen into the coma, he couldn’t even remember what was happening when he had fallen into the deep sleep nor how much time truly had passed. The young-looking Shinigami pulled his Shihakushō making sure it was properly tied shut and slowly, almost gingerly placed his Zanpakutō into the Obi belt of his Shihakushō. He decided that this would make as good a time as any to test his body a bit.
Okuda would make his way towards the training grounds for the Fourth Division, he was going to try to do some basic Zanjutsu drills on his own, bring himself up to speed a bit, maybe try to have a proper conversation with his Zanpakutō and his Inner Hollow. He could feel the chill of the air, it was strange that the Soul Society always seemed to match the time of year in the world of the living, or at least it did to him for some reason.
Once he got to the training grounds, he bowed at the entry way as was proper etiquette and removed his straw tabi and went to the middle of the room, since no one was here right now it made a good time for him to practice a bit. He slowly pulled Asahi from its sheathe and entered the traditional stance of the blade held in front of him in both hands and out at a slight angle, roughly forty-five degrees, he then spread his legs a bit and bent them to maximize his balance. He then let out a slight breathe, one that showed just how rusty he truly was as the old him would never have done this.
The breath wasn’t of exhaustion but instead a certain degree of shakiness in his skills not having been atrophied. However, once that breath had been exhaled, he closed his eyes, steadied himself and began to run through some basic sword maneuvers with his blade. It felt good to him at least, to have Asahi back in his hands and moving through the motions. Even after he had woken, he still took quite a few weeks to really be ready to even try to get back into the swing of things.
In that time, not once had he been able to reach the spirits of his Inner Hollow or even his Zanpakutō, they must have been ignoring him for having been so inattentive to them for so long. Despite how they tended to treat him, he knew deep down they knew they could not do anything without him – at least they could not do anything without him for now – and now the man knew that his body was weak, so trying to do battle with even a Hollow would be almost pointless…

HIME
Hime rarely ever visited the training grounds of the Seiretei but she also knew nothing good would come of stagnation. To truly reach her former glory as a Shinigami, the graceful woman knew she needed to continue tapping into the skill she had lost and eventually at some point, even relearn the Bankai she had lost as a result of being locked away in a cell for so long, of allowing herself to fall into such despicable state that her zanpakuto locked away her Bankai.
To be certain, she was still a capable warrior who could use her other skills to win many battles without the need of such power but she remained unsatisfied with simply being capable of answering threats. Her aim was to be prepared in all avenues, regardless of the threat or it's level of power compared to her own.
She bowed at the entry way before walking in, with the belief that she'd be able to train in secret... until she found her gazed locked on another man swinging his sword, executing several techniques.
As one who was very familiar with swordsmanship, his technique seemed unsteady. Something about his movements definitely spoke to either a lack of technique or rust. She quietly observed him as she walked across the training grounds in silence.
After all, she had walked in on him... it would be rude to tell him his technique was lacking. If the young man inquired about advice, perhaps that would be a more fitting way of giving him advice without crushing his spirits...

This Is A Participation Game!
The Shinigami could feel the spiritual presence of the woman enter the room; he could practically feel her eyes upon him. The man knew that she was strong, though he could not quite quantify the strength that she had, at least not in a way that anyone could verify, all he knew was that this woman was strong. The man had not yet even broken a sweat when he suddenly stopped moving through the drills, his muscles still tense from the exertion. He then gripped his sheathe pulling it ever so slightly forwards from his Obi belt before dragging the side of the blade against the opening and then sheathing the blade by moving both scabbard and blade towards one another.
He finished the move by pulling the sheathe back to its normal resting position in his Obi belt. “Hello Miss, I’m sorry, I don’t know if you had reserved the Dojo at this time or not. If so, I’ll go ahead and leave, but…as you can tell I am quite rusty, I was in a coma for some time and my skills with the blade have shamefully become unused in that time, quite a predicament for someone in the Fourth Division.”
He then finally turned his gaze fully upon the woman, feeling like he had seen her near the Captain Commander’s side, but not sure nor did he remember her name at the moment, the man gave her a bow and then gave a gesture with his right hand, keeping his left upon his scabbard. “Would you care to join me? We could have a spar, actual combat in some fashion will always be best for shaking the rust off a blade as it were.” Okuda then smiled gently and warmly at the woman. He wondered if he took her being in the dojo incorrectly, as it stood, he was taking it as a sign of her wanting to train or perhaps she was just wanting to see who was using the Dojo at this early time of day.
He then stepped a few steps back, allowing her the chance to take whatever stance she pleased on the Dojo mat if she should choose to come and accept his offer of a sparring match with him. The whole time he spoke, he kept his left hand wrapped around his scabbard, the pad of his left thumb casually rested against the hilt, giving away a hint of the lifetime of training he had done.
One thing was certain, if he gave of rust when he was going through the Zanjutsu drills that all Shinigami knew, then this man’s current posture showed a familiarity with the blade that belied that early look. He was definitely someone who could fight, likely from his time in the world of the living prior to his death. His training having drilled certain things into his very soul from how much he performed the very act of swordsmanship. His eyes also had in them the look of a man who had once slain many a person, though he has long since forgotten them, something at the back of his mind would always remember this.
Would always remember that he took lives of other humans once. He knew he did. He knew many a thing about himself, things that weighed down on his soul, that kept him from fully communicating with his Zanpakutō and Inner Hollow properly. One day though, one day he hoped to move past this block in some fashion, but like many things time erodes all. Even the very memories that he once had burned into him.

HIME
Hime gave Noboyuki a reassuring smile as she softly waved her hand, dispelling any worry he may have had towards interrupting her. She did not place any reservations towards this area beforehand and would wholeheartedly admit she pursued this area to train and temper her own technique. If she could be of assistance to her fellow soul reapers, Hime held no qualms towards the prospect of engaging the young man in a spar.
There was a concept in battle - the idea that one could learn the type individual his or her opponent was through their blade or their fists. Even if there was some rust, Hime was curious to see what type of promise this boy held towards the Gotei United and to learn more about his current dilemma. How he had even ended up in a coma to begin with? He was a mystery, to be certain. Even so, she would happily oblige him in his training.
"Worry not, young man. Rust is simply another aspect of tempering one's skill. Once you work it off and learn the proper techniques that yielded you so much success, that familiarity becomes second nature and you rarely lose sight of your form or posture again. I'd gladly engage you in a spar if you so desire. A training session between two is just as helpful as one spent alone. To get a proper observation of your technique... I'll let you make the first strike."
Even as Hime observed Nobuyoki settling into a stance, Hime kept her sword sheathed, although her thumb and pointer finger were placed neatly around the hilt. A central tenet in swordsmanship was to wait for the opportune moment to strike one's enemy in their moment of vulnerability.
Biding her time, she'd test the man's patience as she slowly shifted her feet a few paces to left, feigning an opening or two in her posture to see if the man would strike first or turn their spar into a duel of attrition.

ROUND 1. FIGHT!
Okuda watched the woman settle into her own stance, as he did, he slowly took up the full form of his initial stance, making sure that his right hand hovered just over the hilt of his Zanpakutō. His left fully grasped his sheathe and pressed his thumb against the hand guard, pushing the blade down towards the sheathe and out a little bit. Battōjutsu was one of the things he was best at. His eyes tracked the woman, he knew that she was purposefully testing his patience, to see how long he could wait before striking out at her.
He indulged her a bit, knowing that she wanted to test him, he passed on her obvious openings, the ones that were traps. He was experienced with the blade and knew that this woman had no openings that he would be able to exploit most likely. Without her even fully releasing her spiritual pressure, he knew that she would be much stronger than him. He held very little expectations of being able to overcome her in the sparring match that he himself had requested of her. No, he was merely using this match as a measuring stick for himself, a chance to test his mettle in battle.
His eyes would narrow slightly as he pushed his right foot forwards a bit, bending more at the waist ever so slightly that it seemed natural. He slowly sidled himself to within two steps of the woman, once he was within range he struck with the basic Battōjutsu technique of Sōryūsen. Suddenly the blade of his Zanpakuto shot out from its scabbard in his right hand being drawn basically by both his hands. His right hand pulling while his left thumb pushed the blade out by fully extending out. The speed was something to admire in the human world, but he had not much chance to test it against those trained with spiritual powers such as Shinigami.
As he moved though, he had pulled his sheathe from the belt almost as fast as his main hand moved with his blade, following just behind the blade. It was a trap, if she caught his blade with hers then the sheathe would follow up and smash into her nearest arm. The blow would move with enough strength that in the world of the living could crush and pulverize bones. He was testing himself though, preparing for stronger techniques.
The only hope the woman would have would be to outright dodge his attack. He knew she could do it, the question was whether she saw the trap attack coming or not. The attack was quite the dangerous combination, since if she didn’t catch the blade with her own she could be cut, but if she did she would then receive a hard smash from the sheathe. The only option was to dodge it fully, but he expected that and knew that she likely would dodge the attack wholly, the only question was where she would dodge to…
