Recruitment Day [Alastair, Ehefra]
Mon Oct 04, 2021 6:57 pm
ALASTAIR EISFLUCH | STERNRITTER
Bringing in new recruits was a job that many members of the Vandenreich paid little heed to. Alastair himself had not until his sudden bump up the ranks at the Grandmaster's hand. Now, suddenly, he had quite the vested interest in ensuring that Quincy of a certain quality made their way into the Vandenreich umbrella as potential recruits. Besides, he had risen to Coordinator because of the vacancies left in the wake of Jefferson, so it was the least he could do to see those other spaces filled once more.
That was how he found himself out of the City of Lights today, accompanying members of the Albedochiffren on a trip out to the east coast of America to do some headhunting. There was a long list of names for him to work through and interview before the day was done, most had been invited due to their bloodlines or similar familial ties but there was always the chance that they had a few walk-ins too. They'd thrown up some tents around an abandoned office block on the edge of a quiet little town by the coast. Each of the officers had their own section, some were inside but Alastair had been fortunate to end up with his own tent.
It was already well into the afternoon when he first got a chance to take a break, the next appointment was not for a couple of hours. So he hung out front, resting against the wall, with his Sternritter jacket thrown over one arm. Perhaps the end of the day might bring him something more interesting, for the potential recruits from the morning had been subpar at best.

It had taken her a while to actually make it to America, and the culture shock alone was.....startling. Not only that but it did seem just a bit less secure than what she knew of Japan. The place was so .....BIG. And it was those spaces between the major cities and such that really seemed to let the strays roam all over the place. It didn't take her long to actually hunt down the Vandenreich themselves. Having more or less liberated the country, they were just about everywhere, they even had recruitment stations set up. It was a little nerve wracking.
She paused, glancing at the little piece of paper she'd been given by a man who said what to look out for. Well, it wasn't EXACTLY the concrete establishment described, but the insignia definitely matched the one the old man had drawn out for her. "Cmon, what are you so damn worried about? You can do this!" She psyched herself up, whispering loudly as she eyed the nearest tent. Despite the self encouragement she didn't move from her spot. It was one thing to think and dream about joining the Vandenreich, but well, she wondered if they would even take her? She DID have some decent experience roving through Asia, she had even gone past the level of learning about her powers and actually gotten into TEACHING things to others! Surely that was enough?
She let out a steady sigh and walked toward the opening in the tent. She looked every bit the traveler she was. A worn leather vest over a button up jean shirt. That and some wranglers that were a little tight on her, but only because it was one of those new semielastic pairs with nylons woven into the jeans. Not exactly the look one would have that made you seem like you belonged in a uniform. She poked her head in and paused, briefly struck by the sight of the woman(?) waiting inside.
"Uhhhh, hey there! Are you guys still open?" She asked with an excited smile. Oh god, WHY was she smiling so hard?! The reality of the situation had hit her like a bullet and suddenly she was on some kind of hype high! COME ON EHEFRA TONE IT DOWN! She lessened her smile just a little, but still looked a little overenthused.

At the sight of another figure approaching, Alastair had already begun to pull his jacket over his shoulders. So much for getting a bit of free time, he lamented quietly, before pressing a slight smile onto his features. Something that was professional and yet a shade more welcoming than what he naturally defaulted to.
As the woman entered, he checked his phone as if he was unsure of the time himself before twisting that smile into a wry smirk.
"Good Afternoon, Miss, it sure seems that way. You found your way here, which means you know who we are, so grab a seat and let us get down to business."
Turning, he waved her towards a pair of uninspiring chairs and a desk stacked high with paperwork. Heading over himself, he took the seat opposite and waited a moment for her to get comfortable. She certainly had the look of a traveller about her, not quite American but here she was running around on American soil with a certain carefree attitude. Grabbing the top form from the pile, he clicked his pen and hovered it above the paper.
"I am Alastair Eisfluch, a coordinator with the Vandenreich. Now, I take it you are here to enlist?"

She blinked, both brows flying up. She didn't know this man, she didn't know him in the slightest. But seeing him for just five seconds was enough to be surprised when a smile actually showed up on his face. Ah uhm... It's not ......of course! Yes sir." She managed to murmur out as she made her way to the indicated seat and watched as the man sat across from her. Her eyes darting down to the piece of paper. They still used paper records? Kiknda outdated wasn't it? not to mention slower. But she kept such a comment to herself as she watched the man (Her initial mistake rectified when he talked) began. Wow he was like, one of those bishojos though huh? Thankfully he didn't seem to be the 'open ass insert stick' type.
"A pleasure to meet you! I'm Ehefra Kleinmund! And uhhh yea! I saw the news about what happened here. So ....here I am!" She noted, promptly putting on a confident smile and puffing her chest just a little. Taking a momentary pride in herself and how she presented her name. She paused, thinking for a moment. "Truth be told. I actually was a little surprised that this place was so put-together considering the fighting that happened here..." She murmured lightly. A little impressed with the repairs and such she'd seen. The Vandenreich was a lot more....... all together than she'd expected. Especially the way her parents had painted the Quincie's past attempts at grouping up.

She certainly seemed earnest enough, taking the initiative to get her foot in the door as she had done. He did notice that she seemed surprised at his cheery attitude, he had surprised himself with it, to be honest, but he was here to get people to actually enlist and putting on his typical dour expression seemed counterintuitive to that fact. That meant wearing a smile, he supposed, and for the most part, he thought that made him a little more approachable, right?
"The pleasure is mine, Miss Kleinmund. Liberating America from under the thumb of Shadow Fall was certainly one of the organisation's greatest victories, but our work here is far from over."
Moving down the form, he skimmed over the personal details. There would be plenty of time for that when she was actually on the track, better to focus on what she was actually capable of and where she might fit into the grander scheme of things.
"So, what are your abilities? All are welcome in the Vandenreich, even those without any formal Quincy training, but it would be good to have a gauge of your capabilities at this stage."

Re: Recruitment Day [Alastair, Ehefra]

Ehefra watched as he seemed to be looking over some sort of form as thed little interview progressed, her head canting to the side as she could only imagine the sort of things they asked. She wondered what sort of criteria they had. She'd been so focused on joining that she didn't actually think about what they looked for in potential recruits. Looking over the man she couldn't help but furrow her eyes just a little before glancing down at her own clothing. Should she have dressed up or something?
The Question caused her attention to snap back up, her brows raising for just an instant before recognition hit her. "OH! Uhm, yes! I have Quincy Training! I can make...you know....like a normal bow and stuff. Or I can make my special bow. Well....IT's more like a rescripted bow designed for storing Spirit Codes. Which uhm.....right context..." She paused, stopping herself from rambling as she realized that there was a lot of context he wouldn't get.
A pause.
"So like uhm. I'm....I was raised on Coding! You know...computers? I was taught that my whole life. So uhh when I started learning about Ginto spells It FELT a lot like a really weird scripting language. So I started messing around and I found out that I could Actually create scripts for spiritual stuff! Er....Reishi!" She paused, opening her palm as a crackle of Reishi formed into her palm, creating a tiny cube of reishi in her palm. About three inches in every dimension. "So I could say....script this cube to cut itself in half and then come apart after a set timer. Or apply a script that converted it into say ...Ice....or magma... or plasma. Or uhm.... I can write a little AI for it!" She put on a smile and then focused on the cube. a little insignia burning into the very topmost face of it. A symbol of little etched symbols before the cube suddenly let out a 'Bwoop!' and floated up above her palm, rotating as if it were looking around.
Ehefra smiled. "This is just a really quick one. So it's not very smart. But I've gotten good enough that if I have enough time I can script an AI with intellignece comparable to my own. I can apply them to individual objects, Or I can designate an object to be a Server which operates all objects within a set area. When I was in Malaysia I had to worry about hollows sneaking up on me in my sleep. so I would create turrets with replicas of my bow which would react to incoming hollows, and then I would set up spiritual barracades and a Server Cube with a smarter AI to coordinate the fire of the turrets and some golems so that I could be safe in my sleep!" She smiled brightly, pausing for a moment when she had realized she'd been rambling for a good several minutes. She tensed up and straightened. "Uhm, anywho yea so I'm not the best when it comes to like.... just beating up Hollows.-"
Actually she was rather reckless and had a bad habit of getting way to into fights. She even got injured on rare occassions, almost died to hollow poisoning in Thailand. But she wasn't gonna say anything about THAT. " -But I'm really good with my own brand of Reishi magic stuff." She finally summarized, putting on a nervous smile as she did.

The way her face lit up as he mentioned her abilities was probably all the information he needed, there was a passion there that he quietly resonated with. But then suddenly she was talking about computers and technology and his brain was going a mile a minute trying to process everything that she was putting down. He understood coding as a concept, there had been classes he had attended like a decade ago, but the thought of applying it to Reishi was not something he could say he had even considered possible. But perhaps that was what it truly meant to carve your own path.
"An impressive toolset, though I do have a few questions. Do you have any trouble controlling multiple of those manifestations then? Or do they rely on one connected network to function? And you mentioned that you could transform it into other substances, is that an indefinite change or does it only last for a certain period of time?"
He had picked out a few choice questions, though he had far more bouncing around his head. What was immediately apparent was that she was more than capable enough to skip past basic training, maybe even straight into the rank and file if she played her cards right. He scribbled down some further notes, the section on the form quickly becoming hard-pressed for space, as he waited for further answers.

He...HE LIKED IT! She lit up, smiling from ear to ear as he seemed to enjoy it! However when he asked his question she raised a brow, head tilting to the side before tapping her cheek. "Oh I mean I DO have a script for controlling them manually, but these aren't controlled by me. I create an AI a....er...I script an artificial personality to handle it's movements for me. Or a Server, as you mentioned, would have it's own integrated AI which handled the units movements as a collective based on collective data. And as for the transition its entirely permanent. Well at least I believe it is. I haven't exactly kept any of the stuff around for a long time now that I think about it...." She explained as best she could, clearing her throat a bit.
"In addition I also have teaching experience! In Malaysia I helped out some villages by teaching them to create spiritual barracades and such. Some of them even asked to be taught how to be a quincy. I dunno how well I did, but I have experience with the process. So thats like.....leadership skills AND application of theory." She pointed out, really out to sell herself well! Maybe if she did well enough at the itnerview she could join at a higher rank!

"That is all very impressive, Miss Kleinmund. I will not beat around the bush, if I am understanding your abilities correctly, you have an incredibly unique power that could definitely be put to good use in the Vandenreich. Given time to further enhance these techniques, you could settle into a comfortable position within the organisation."
There was little point in not being direct about it, even at this stage. She was easily the most competent person he had interviewed all day, and even the basic applications of her 'Reishi Scripting' were enough to put her in an entirely different league from the masses. What remained to be seen was her motivation, whether she actually had the right mindset for the Vandenreich or not.
"Walking backwards to a topic we touched upon earlier, you heard about the Vandenreich's work here in America but were there any other reasons that brought you here today? Is there anything driving you forwards along this path?"
It was a prying question, certainly, but this was an interview, not a pleasant chat. Digging into her character to understand what made Ehefra tick was the easiest way towards gauging her compatibility with both himself and the goals of the wider Vandenreich as he best understood them.

That was.... a LOT more praise than she expected! Both brows perked up when she found herself on the business end of some PRETTY solid praise! She smiled, sitting up just a bit straighter as she listened to him and let her head slowly cant to the side. His next question DID cause her a bried moment of pause. A furrowing of her brows as she thought it over.
"I admit at first I was just fascinated. The ability to use quincy abilities has been something that was ....I dunno just so much more interesting than anything else. And when I hit the back end of what I could learn just with lessons I was compelled to move forward. I kinda was in a rebellious phase. I don't know how much of it was resisting my parents, or just my need to learn more. But I wound up leaving home, ditching school, and roughing it out in Thailand on my way to Malaysia. And it was ... rough. Like REALLY rough. I had to stop the whole trip just to figure out a way to not have hollows up my ass when I tried to sleep." She murmured.
She looked over her shoulder, thinking back to the sunsets she'd always dreaded back in that place. "And I ran into others who were just trying to survive, and I taught them what I could, I spent time with them, and I realized that I LIKED leaving them more capable of surviving than when I met them. And when I saw what happened here in AmericaI felt compelled to come here. I love what I've learned about my Kind. About OUR Kind." She murmured, her expression resolute. "I want to learn what I can manage to do with my powers, and learn how to use those powers to help other Quincy. I wanna know why everything is why it is, and see if I can fix it. Or at least make it better than this. I mean.....this can't be as good as it gets right?"
She lowered her arms, having gotten a bit animate at the end there, but she cleared her throat and folded her hands in her lap, giving him a firm determined look. Waiting for his response.
