Red, Black, and Blue? [Chidori, Kasha]
Tue Apr 20, 2021 1:27 am
Despite taking a much more lax position in the Gotei, to the point where it was hard to even consider him a member, Chidori was still involved in the general scene of Seretei still. It was hard not to be, considering her position. Someone was always wanting something from her, though by this point in her life she found it hard to say no. Why would she turn someone in need away? It was her duty to not only her family but just people, in general, to be there for them if they needed it.
So when the Shihoin Head was asked to give a presentation at the academy, she gladly accepted. To be honest, Chidori was looking for any reason to get out of the house anyway. Now that Nakano and Yushiro have grown up to the point that they could crawl, taking care of them has been a bit easier but harder at the same time. On one hand, they can go where they want and they've learned by this point what they can and cannot touch. On the other hand, if you keep your eye off of them for too long then they'll just wander around the estate. A terrifying thought.
Anyways, she was tasked with giving a lecture on reiatsu, both the basics and some of the advanced applications of it. Being the first time doing this, she had no idea what to expect so she prepared a presentation that she thought would suffice, though in actuality it may have been a bit to prepared. Chidori wouldn't know until she gave it, but by then it would be too late. The students started to fill the classroom, like clockwork they went to their seats and waited for her to start. Never has she feared public speaking, until this point.
"Hi, hello. It's a pleasure to meet you all. My name is Chidori Shihoin, but you can call me whatever you feel like as long as it is my name. Before we start, I want to make sure you all are in the right place. This is Reiatsu Applications & Theory, correct?" It was rhetorical, she already knew she was in the right spot. "Your normal teacher had asked me to come in today to give you a sort of crash course lesson to refresh your memories before an upcoming test. He told me it was on..." Chidori picked up a book and began flipping through it. "Elemental types, right? Well, I hope I can make this class interesting for you today. You guys are here to learn, but whose to say you can't have a little fun too?" And with that, she slammed the book closed and set it on a table in the front. She would wait a few moments to let late stragglers in before getting into the real meat of things.

KOIZUMI KASHA
How dull. He did not enjoy the classes, he could pass in a heartbeat yet he did not. Kasha's duties of being in the Fifth division as an apprentice meant that he could wear the dark shihakusho rather than the uniform of the academy. It made it far harder for people to figure out his sex, unfortunately. It didn't help that Kasha wore the female uniform for his entire first year because a male uniform didn't fit him and his features.
Whatever. The teacher was a peculiar one, Kasha had heard rumours of the Shihoin Head, she was not particularly outstanding to him in terms of beauty, rumoured capacities or even outstanding character. For that reason he began the same old routine he did where he started to write in his textbook, read the content at his own pace and ignore the teacher and his fellow classmates.
He never liked to think he was arrogant. He did know that he was greatly beyond the confines of the academy in terms of skill, but if he ever performed too well then he'd earn the ire of the main family and he did not want to suffer a meeting with Lady Shishiyuki though she was striking on all fronts of beauty and mystery of rumour, Kasha knew of the more sinister rumours and was not one that wanted to see if they held merit. A woman like her didn't play around with principle.

"Alright, tough crowd." After her speech, nobody really said anything. It seemed like everyone in the classroom was dead, bored, or both. All except one kid in the back that was scribbling in her notebook. She had a vaguely familiar look to her, but Chidori couldn't quite put where she knew her from.
"Okay. I'm going to cut through all the bullshit and get right to the cool shit, yeah? So, everyone has something unique about them, but when it comes to people like you and me we have way more going for us. Just being shinigami means that we all have our zanpakuto, which at their Shikai and Bankai levels are unique to each owner. If you were born lucky, then there's a chance that you have an innate power within you as well. Former captains that fall under this category would be Yamamoto and Hitsugaya, with Fire and Ice respectively. These are real-world cases of having elemental reiatsu, though past birth we don't know much about how they work or why they happen. Some people show signs of having them at birth, others are late bloomers. All in all, roughly less than 10% of the population actually has them."
"Though despite the rarity, there doesn't seem to be any sort of rules that these guys have to follow. For example, take Yamamoto. He had fire reaitsu that would burn anything to ash with intense heat. Some speculate that if he wasn't in the Gotei he'd probably become a teppanyaki chef." There were a few chuckles from some of the students. Most of them were paying attention now, though not everyone seemed interested. Yet there was still that problem of the girl in the back scribbling in their notebook. Chidori took this as a declaration of war. "So far, it seems that the lucky bastards who have special reiatsu have themed zanpakutos as well. Take the kid genius' ice dragon for example. It makes wonder what your Shikai is going to be like not as much of a mystery, so that's a good thing."
"Having control over one's reiatsu is crucial, but more so for those who have these elemental powers. Uh... someone toss me a notebook they don't care about." One would go flying over the heads of the room and land in Chidori's hands. She ripped out a few pages and made paper airplanes. Rudimentary but good enough to do what she wanted to do. Taking one, she pinched it and threw it, though before it left her fingertips she lit the back in with her reiatsu, black flames leaving a trail behind it. There were sounds of awe in the classroom as some of the students were genuinely impressed. The flames would consume the plane as it landed right in front of Kasha, and for a moment it was still it before dying out into a pile of ash.
"So you back there? Any thoughts, questions, comments, praise?" There was genuine curiosity behind this question.

KOIZUMI KASHA
If Kasha wasn't so good at controlling himself then he might've expected his face to be one of shock. It was a mess which he didn't appreciate in the slightest, it made it all the harder for him to remain pretty mundane when the environment was a total mess. The worst part was that he could not even vocalise it. All the disdain and ugly emotions were kept behind that crystal clear serenity he gave off that gently moved through the chaos.
Yet she was not content to let him sit like he did as the paper airplane came in front of him and turned to cinders. It was almost amazing how the current Shihoin Head had such poor composure that he had to put her below Yoruichi for instructors in terms of restraint. The offensive way all these actions were trivial, unnecessary and obnoxious.
The little stunt made the people next to Kasha almost surprised, like they had forgotten such a looker was even sitting next to them. He might as well have been a stranger in the class as the attention was drawn to him and how he faded into the background.
He'd never actually take the bait though he expected that was her intention, why she wanted to torment him in particular was a mystery to Kasha for these antics by throwing the paper airplane at him and drawing the classes attention to him. All he knew was that he loathed her for it.
"Not particularly, teacher. I'm just trying to read the material, I am on the page that just landed on my desk actually. It has a nice section on... using reiatsu appropriately and how as shinigami it is our responsibility to be aware how our reiatsu can affect those around us. Such that in the past vice-captains and captains would need to restrain their spiritual energy so that it didn't affect the world around them, the same way Lady Tsunayashiro emphasises how kido is a fighting form, not something to be used lightly in her classes."
Kasha was a Koizumi, his words had multiple facets. He intended for them to be read as a diligent student that was doing all that was expected of them. The underlying message was to criticise her but all his words seem to evoke from his classmates was a sigh of boredom at this girl giving a summary of the section and even going as far to reference another class.

Alright, now she's ticked off. Chidori got enough lecturing before, and still got it now, she didn't need some brat in her class to be mouthing her off too. Even if it wasn't staged as one, she's heard enough of them to know a lecture when it was given. Her father would do the same thing
"Well, I think me and your Lady wouldn't get along, however not for the reasons you'd expect. I don't think Kido would be a fighting form, more of a tool. Hakuda is a fighting form, zanjutsu is a fighting form, though the zanpakuto is more of a tool to be used in said form. You can develop a fighting form from Kido, but Kido alone is not a form. Though that's just what I think and what I've experienced."
"I see you're paying attention though, as yes, controlling reiatsu is a problem for us and a skill that many need to learn. It has taken me years to get this level of control over my reiatsu, though it has gotten to the point that it's more of an extension rather than a hindrance." As she spoke, she raised her hand and lit a small flame over each of her fingers, blowing them out one at a time. "Though if this Lady you speak of doesn't use kido in a kido class, I wonder how well some of you are doing. Some people learn in different ways. I could just stand here and spout paragraphs on paragraphs about this, but rather than bore you to death I'll show you what I mean. Next, you're going to tell me your zanjutsu teacher just shows you pictures instead of handing you a stick, let alone a weapon." Perhaps she was overstepping her boundaries, but it was an opinion she had. Whether or not they'd take this to heart was another matter altogether.
"Anyways, since I've already got you speaking, do you mind giving me some examples of what would happen if one were to have poor control over their reaitsu? If they just let it leak out of them rather than contain it? Oh, and say your name for me while you're at it." A devilish smile was plastered on the Shihoin's face. It was clear that this kid hated the attention, but there was a clear difference in power and dynamic here. Even if he didn't like it there was some favor on Chidori's side to get him to do what she asked.
His overall attitude reminded her a lot of Chishiki, the old bitch.

KOIZUMI KASHA
"I acknowledge your opinion of the matter, teacher. I assume given the definition taught in the first year of the academy that zankensoki are the four fighting forms we will practice as shinigami would define kido as a fighting style."
He gave a small smile and polite bow of his head before there was the guy next to him patting him on the head and giving a resounding.
"Hey Kasha, shut up already and stop spouting from the books, yeah?"
There was a consideration to retort but that wasn't necessary, it did make it clear that he was somewhat known in his class. People acknowledged his existence and knew of him, he was just forgettable. Someone that rode waves rather than make them himself. He gave it a little bit of thought and judged just how much he could get away with, if he could make a spark that burnt out quickly then that should be fine. A forgettable moment that was only transiently amusing but not given a chance to become a fire in the way of rumours and gossip.
"No. In practical sessions we do practical applications, in theoeretical sessions we do theory work. My name is Kasha, I stated it for the rolecall I apologise if I didn't speak loud enough, teacher."
Now this is where as one who had elemental reiatsu that made it appropriate for him to learn Hoo Kanmuri Ken could utilise that excellent array of knowledge, diluted of course to not make him seem like an expert on it. He made it sound like he was just guessing here.
"Well, one can see themselves attracting hollows in some cases. I guess you'd like me to focus on elemental types though, umm. I suppose if you had fire aligned reiatsu and didn't control it then you'd feel warm to people around you, if you had poor control as well um maybe you'd burn those around you indescriminately and start fires, probably hurt people because of it. I'm glad I don't have reiatsu like that."
He had heard only rumours in regards to the scarred body of the late Head of the Shihoin but didn't care to cater to those rumours, matters of fire-aligned reiatsu were more a personal experience--for the sake of his peers though, assumptions--on the other hand though. Kasha had never actually burnt his teacher with his reiatsu even when learning Hoo Kanmuri Ken, in the moment he was quite proud of that fact since he'd never considered it before.

"Thank you, Kasha. And you-" She looked next to Kasha, at the boy who made the remarks earlier. "Leave him alone. If that's how he remembers things then let him."
"And yes, those are all great and very real examples of what could happen with elemental reiatsu assuming you don't know how to wield it. In some cases, however, that could be a good thing. Yamamoto didn't express great control over his reiatsu, to the point where any form of fighting with his sword was dangerous, but he did know how to keep it sealed. Where one could go for precision, they could also go down the route of just raw strength. But that would also require a large energy pool and that's way down the line for many of us."
"I-hm...." Chidori moved back to her notes and began to flip through her book to recall what she had planned. They had actually blown through the topics at a record pace, attributed to her lax teaching style but also with Kasha's help. "With that being said, any questions? We've got a lot of time left, so hit me. Class related or otherwise, assuming that you know all this stuff already." The class was halfway over by this point, time flying by since Chidori has gotten there. There was a feeling in the back of her mind that she was going to end up regretting this, but she also hoped that it was going to be a good change of pace for the students. She imagined they worked their asses off most of the time, so what would one break be?
