Gan Feng had spent the last few months traveling the world. He had visited Japan, Africa, and a few other places of note. Now his journey had brought him to America, and as he looked around, he thought that it was quite different from what he'd seen in the past. Change is nothing to be feared, nor is it something to blindly approve of. He simply noted the fact that there were differences, and accepted them as they were. With that, he continued onwards into the city that lay sprawled before him. The people seemed friendly enough as he made his way through the streets. They seemed to look at him more frequently than he would expect, but that didn't really bother him in any way.
He looked through the windows of several buildings, which appeared to be storefronts. Some of them even had things that reminded him of China, but for some reason they were distinctly not Chinese. He paid little mind to this. Eventually he found himself in a central location, and the smell of food wafted through the air towards him. He realized that it had been quite some time since he'd had anything to eat, and so he decided to try out some of the food they had to offer here in America.
Gan Feng approached a gathering of trucks, all of them with different designs before he realized that he couldn't make out what they said. Pausing for a moment, he looked around before deciding to ask the nearest person for their assistance.
"Excuse me, do you have a moment?"

Chinese food really was the bomb. She spent some time there, met a few people--had a few flings all the while, though to be honest she couldn't remember some considering the occasional drunken stupor--and fell in love with the local cuisines. Fortunately, the cultures and people of China spread all around the world, and in what used to be a melting pot several hundred years ago, the central territory of North America was no different.
Well, a little different actually. Some stores were authentic, but some changed and adapted to the tastes of the residents. The question was, was it any better? Micaiah had an open mind to these sorts of things, and her tastes had developed to be suited to Demon World so the degree of variance relative to Vicaran food probably wouldn't be too different.
Boy was she wrong. There was something definitively missing, a certain flavour that she found in literally everything she ate in China ever. Also, things felt a bit heavier, greasier, overall just inferior. Maybe it was the fact that it came from a truck. Also, she never heard of "burritos" before. That's what you get for trying new things.
After making up her mind on not eating anymore, someone came around talking to her. Approach her any sooner and to be honest, she wouldn't have responded, lost in thought over analysing the taste.
"Hm? What's up?"
She turned around to face them, sizing them up. Wow. What a confident man--didn't even wear a shirt. Not that Micaiah was one to talk, considering how much she exposed. Well, for her it was traditional Vicara attire. As far as she knew, it wasn't customary for men to be shirtless whilst walking the city streets in China--maybe some parts of America--and as far as she could tell, this man definitely looked chinese. Actually, considering the part of town they were in, she assumed him a local.

Gan Feng looked the woman before him up and down. Neither lustfully nor judgementally, he simply observed that she was quite scantily clad. This had no effect on him. He did, however, find that she was interesting, to one degree or another. After a few moments of this, he began to speak once more.
"Could you be so kind as to help me? I can't read the signs. I'm quite hungry, but I don't intend to order at random, either. I enjoy knowing what I'm eating."
He thought for a few moments before he began to speak once more.
"And these vehicles. Why do they serve food. I'm used to food being served from restaurants. Are these of an inferior quality? Should I even order from them at all?"
Gan Feng rubbed his chin as he spoke, obviously considering all of the options before him. He took a moment to walk around the trucks, trying to discern what exactly they were serving, and how, if at all, they differed from one another. He came to the conclusion that they were all serving their own unique menus, but he still had no idea what those menus consisted of.
"What do you think? Should I eat here?"
He studied the woman in front of him as he asked this question, once more considering her.
"I'm Gan Feng. It's a pleasure to meet you."

She had no idea what he was saying. You know what, though? That's on her. Should've expected it from a local. She replied with exaggerated mouth movements, and said slowly,
"Do you speak English?"
Most people in America did, and since he was a local she figured he would too, but no matter where you went there'd be outliers. At the very least, she caught onto the fact that he was looking at the food trucks wondering what they had. A little two and two together and she knew what was up.
Micaiah stopped him, pointed to the menus, and then shook her head.
"Not worth."
She even did some sign-language with it. Believe it or not, Micaiah knew ISL: International Sign Language. Didn't work with Americans, they had their own sign language for some reason, but they did use it in China, so maybe this guy knew what was up.
"Go to a normal restaurant."
She signed appropriately then pointed over to a building a couple shops down. She ate there before, and it was good; she just wanted to try out one of these trucks, since she only happened to see them on Tuesdays. Exclusive food usually signaled to something good, if not at least interesting, right?
Either way, Micaiah grabbed him by the arm and tugged him along to show him the shop. She did neglect to ask him if he had money, though, and if they sat down and ate and he didn't have the stuff to pay his share? Split the check and leave him in the dust. Not her problem.

Gan Feng looked at the woman quizzically for a moment more, before she suddenly started to speak as if he were a fool, and make strange signs with her hands. He had no idea what it was that she was doing, nor did he try to guess. He simply watched her, thinking that she looked quite foolish. Although she had asked if he spoke English. Had he lapsed into Chinese, or was his accent just that bad? He did not know. Either way, he responded, enunciating as clearly as he could.
"English. Yes."
After a bit of this, she finally made a motion that he did understand, which was simply pointing down the road. He would have followed her regardless, but she reached out to grab his arm. He saw no harm in it, so he reacted to this in no way. He simply went with the flow, allowing her to direct him to a new location.
As they approached, he noticed that the aroma that surrounded this building was much more enticing than that of the trucks he'd been considering previously. It seemed that he had been right to doubt their culinary ability.
Gan Feng looked up at the sign that was attached to the building before him. He was still unable to comprehend what the words meant, but he did see a picture of
some sort of meat, and he considered that good enough.
"Thank you for your guidance. Consider this meal my treat."
Gan Feng nodded his head slightly as he finished speaking, and opened the door so that the woman could enter ahead of himself.

"Wha? You spoke English this whole time? Well, you should've just said so!"
Micaiah didn't give him much opportunity to actually retort that, if he had anything to say. Once he mentioned that this was his treat, she walked straight in and got the two of them a seat. It was at the side of the restaurant, alongside the wall. It was a two-person table, one side having a chair, and the other side being a cushioned bench attached to the wall. She picked the bench side first, of course.
The girl didn't even take time to open up a menu. Micaiah had been here a few times, so she was already well acquainted with the menu. Every time she came, she ordered something new, not at all shy to try even the most unorthodox of dishes. This time, she ordered the fried bee chrysalis. It sounded awful, to be frank. Not appetising in the least, but if she never tried it, she'd never know for sure whether or not it was good.

Gan Feng followed the woman to the table she'd decided to occupy. It seemed to be a bit more intimate of a setting than he would usually imagine, considering he'd met this woman mere moments ago. This didn't bother him, it was simply something that he noted. He took the seat across from her, and looked over the menu. He couldn't make much out, but before too long the waiter had made his way over to their table. He noticed that the woman seemed to know exactly what she wanted. He assumed that this meant she had some confidence in the establishment, and what she was ordering, so he told the waiter he'd be having the same. He felt that this was a wise decision. After all, who knew what kind of crazy junk he might order on accident if he were to simply pick something at random.
While they waited for the food to arrive he looked over at the woman. You dress quite immodestly, I note. Is this a matter of culture? I can not say I've seen it elsewhere, although I have just begun to traverse this world. Also, you have yet to inform me of your name, and I must say that I am quite curious.
Gan Feng had just started to explore the Earth at large, and there were many things that he was as of yet unaware of. He intended to rectify this as soon as he was able, as he did not enjoy being in the dark.
