Things had changed and become different for the Kuchiki now. Shame was something he had to live with. He'd done actions that were wrong or just moronic in the past. Accepting what he'd done gracefully had been the mantra. His new Zanpakuto had been educating him. Helping in a way that mended old wounds in his heart. But as he sat in the medical room. A sweet aroma filled the air, his Zanpakuto's power. The incense had a nostalgic feeling. Bringing on happy memories, he didn't release it. This just happened to be the effect of his new blade.
He had a calm and somewhat quietness to him. Most of his Squadmates noticed a change in him, as though peace had finally calmed his heart. He didn't hold any form of grudge or anger at anyone. The hollowfication he went under, helped him deal with the pain. He didn't crawl to others for help, he dealt with the problems as they came.
His skills in Kido were excellent, but his talent as a healer had gotten even better. Practicing and taking care of the wounded people sent to him. This let him evolve as a healer. But in the end, the most alarming growth was the one inside. He no longer harbored innocence or such things. The Zanpakuto he'd gotten gave him closure from pain. But it also helped him realize and grow as a person, her experiences were vital for this.
So it was though, he considered retiring from the Gotei early. Maybe stepping down as Vice-Captain and leaving the medical healing to others. But any time he thought this, he'd gotten a stern reminder. That he didn't come close to repaying his mistakes yet. The ones that cost the Gotei in the larger scope. He would nod slowly as he accepted this. A role was given to him, to prove to him he deserved it. But later he realized the coddling didn't help.
But this was who he was, who he'd always been. He just was too much of a brat and fool to realize it. Nothing he could do or would do would change his past. He could only influence the future, even if by a small margin. His way of speaking had changed and in truth, so had Takehiko Kuchiki himself.
