Tis But A Scratch (Helle/Uriel, Semi-Open)
Mon Jul 06, 2020 6:13 pm
Helle Armstrong
Another day, another morning of expected paperwork for many. One would, obviously, rather be outside to enjoy the moderate Summer breeze that caked the outskirts of The City of Lights. However, not every official of the Vandenreich finds themselves confined within their offices. The crystalline ground crunches under the heavy footfalls of a particular Quincy adorned in silver-colored armor created through the infusion of Reishi and metal.
“This spot will do nicely,” Helle spoke to herself as her emerald eyes scanned the area. There are no buildings close by this particular patch of the island that bordered the ocean. Pulling out her phone, she sends a text message to a particular individual, sending them the directions required to reach this area, making sure to include the necessity of coming prepared for a battle. Now, with that done, Helle begins examining the area and estimating the accurate amount of energy required to pull off the stunt she desired.
She is not here for meager enjoyment. Though, as she waited, she moved herself to the edge of the island and stared off into the vast expanse of water. How far out should she go? Far enough to not cause harm to the island. That would be nice. Her Liege would be bothered by any permanent damage. It doesn’t take her long to get her thoughts together, and so, she takes a seat on the ground with her head resting against her metal arms. It didn’t take long for her to doze off.

The sound of his phone buzzing was caught by his exceptional hearing, despite being focused on another task at hand. Within his living areas set up by the Vandenreich Euriel was currently holding his entire 6'11 frame vertical with a single arm. He seemed to almost be steaming with sweat as he slowly shifted his head to look at his phone. This was a form of meditation, and training, to hardened his body and spirit for any upcoming battles.
It seemed strange that with the war being over such things may decrease, but if there was one thing Euriel was assured of it was conflict. Eventually it would return, and eventually he'd be called to act. He just wondered for which side he would fight for. Such thoughts where soon banished however as he lowered his legs from their vertical position with surprising flexibility. On his feet he'd make his way to his phone grabbing a towel wiping his face as he did so.
Reading the contents surely invoked something in him, a mixture of surprise and intrigue. To come prepare for a battle. That was interesting. It would take no time for him to grab a shower, and grab his gear. He would not be bringing his power armor, such a thing was best kept in it's secluded location. To be worn should something of extreme measures was needed. Instead he'd arrive in more traditional battle gear.
When he arrived he'd run a hand through sandy blonde hair. He'd search for the tell tale pull of Helle's reiatsu, surely he'd be able to find it provided she wasn't hiding it.
"Hmm."

Her reiatsu is not hidden. There is not a reason for it to be. She knows, despite the location being given, that Uriel may need a bit more assistance coming to her location. With that in mind, she allowed her energy to simply exist about her, allocating itself to her surroundings preparing itself to act when needed. And, as much as he could sense her, she could sense him. Her face lit up with anticipation as he neared ever closer. This is supposed to be a serious moment, but one is allowed to experience some form of enjoyment when an event that is sure to spark high adrenaline is soon to begin, yes?
Whether Uriel would agree or not does not bother her. She simply turns and closes her eyes focusing her energy. Uriel will feel the environment around him become coated by her Reiryoku that begins spilling forth from her body at a rapid pace, seeping into the ground and dressing the air. When he would arrive at her location, she does not open her eyes to greet him, but keeps her face focused. There would be the sound of a single crack before the ground underneath them begins to erupt with disturbance, multiple cracking noises as if someone is crushing glass plagues their eardrums, and Helle asks one question of the giant of a man.
“Are you prepared?”

"Always."
The sound of his voice was low, almost like it came from the throat. A low tone of warning to her that he was not merely just a man. In this moment of focus between the two, the wider expanse of both their powers would come to fruition. With Helle no doubt connecting to the latent energy in the world around them, there was something notable about Euriel. That energy of a hybrid, a man of two worlds, of two lives, who energy also seemed coiled ready to explode at a moment's notice.
As the low roar of shattered earth began to emit around the soldier he could only place a gloved hand on the handle of his spiritual weapon. The focus for both his powers, the wolf fur cloak he wore beginning to flow at it's edges as the energy of the area began to steadily rise. Was he excited? Yes. In his life he had been placed in danger so many times, it had become his natural habitat thus he embraced it. He found no greater joy, than to come to blows with a worthy adversary. An opponent to be overcome.
As the blade was slowly withdrawn the flickers of flames licked at the sheathe. As he began to draw in the energy around him, not as great an effect as Helle, but certainly nothing to scoff at. In fact the spiritual flames seemed to lick their way up his hand, traveling across his armored arm as if threatening to engulf it. It almost seemed out of control, almost. Those warm blue irises shut themselves for a moment, his lips opening as he gained control of himself. The flames where to be controlled by him, not him by them.
Soon enough as he fully withdraw the weapon, the flames around his arm would travel back down unto the blade. Blue irises opening as the sound of a singular pulse emitted from him. His energy under control, his focused solidified. He was ready.
Goosebumps ran across his body, he shivered slightly. As the flames licked from the edges of his weapon, distorting the air around his blade, one key thing became known: He was absolutely excited.

“Then, let us begin.”
Helle turned her body away from Uriel, her back to him now, before walking away towards the edge. One step, two steps, and then a third, before her foot hovers over the gently stirring waves that contorts the ocean’s surface. Though, as she stepped out, her feet did not touch the water. No. It is a simple feat for one to use Reishi as platforms to traverse the world, and yet, Helle’s felt somewhat different. All around her, the Reishi began to congregate, hardening into a form of outline that coated her body in Earth’s spiritual energy. She is no longer walking on platforms, but now, she simply floats forward. That is when Uriel feels the ground beneath him crack and shake like a miniature earthquake.
Only they shall witness the land that they both shall share release itself from the foundation of the island as the sea’s vast amount of water fills in the cracks that now exist. Though, with a power greater than the sea, the broken land is pulled from the shore and dragged further out into the sea behind Helle. It takes only a few seconds before the pull of Reishi on the surroundings subsides and the small drifting crystalline land is left out at sea. Down Helle falls back onto the ground as the waves lick against the edges or their irregular platform.
“You burn brightly Uriel but I bend the world to my whim. Let us see who’s control is finer, yes?” Helle turns back to face the burning man, her emerald eyes focused on his sword before moving to stare into his burning gaze. With finesse, her rapier is unsheathed and held within her right hand like an attachment of her arm. Her weapon radiates with barely contained spiritual energy, and it’s honed edge is pointed at the large man across from her.
“Ladies first, I believe.” She says jestingly, but immediately after those words leave from between her lips, she has dashed forward, her hirenyaku transferring her quickly towards Uriel. Her blade is outstretched aiming to press against his chest. If not dodged or deflected, Uriel may find himself spliced in two clean halves for Helle’s aim is true.

Things where quickly changing for Euriel and he would need to act, swiftly, if he did not want to be caught up in a turbulent sea. Even as the sound of cracking glass seem to emit from the two, a steady rise of energy as a thin smile spread across his face. Where she used the ancient quincy technique for movement, his mixblood heritage would be known early in this fight as the telltale sound of Shunpo seemed to emit from him. A single step taken as he blurred in the air as she approached him, moving not away from her but towards her.
He had learned much in life, and perhaps her raw technical skill outclassed him. She was a genius, a prodigy, as they upheld her. But the humble origins of Euriel allowed him a different view. What was a man if not the trials he has endured? The soul strength was not measured by birth, but by the conflict which it has endured. And Euriel, had endured much in his life. Her aim was deadly and true, but he'd meet it with tenacity and vigor. She had committed to her action, and he would commit to his.
As they near'd each other, traveling by their different methods, Euriel traveling notable at an upwards angle towards Helle. His sword hand not posed what so ever to deflect or dodge, such a thing might be expected of a novice. But his true intentions where known at the movement of near impact. He never hand the intention of using his sword to attack, instead his body dipped down just a wee bit as his freehand came upwards.
The sound of flesh and sinew being torn could be heard, but it was not his chest her blade found. Instead buried to the hilt of her blade was his left hand. Sacrificed in the event to close in on her, to bear upon her now that she was completely open. Yes, this was the nature of Euriel. The nature of a soldier. To give, in order to take victory. In this moment his blade flames seemed to burn brightly, expanding and licking the air as the heat could be felt from their close positions. His left hand closed around the guard of the blade, now leaking his crimson, as still alive nerves within it seemed unable to loosen.
His momentum did not stop as he attempted to drive the flaming hot blade into the exposed armpit of her armor, if he was to give a hand- he would make her give an arm.
In this moment of proximity, blue irises seemed to be set alight with flames. Passion. Tenacity. Humanity. It all coursed through this man.

A head on clash? Helle did not take Uriel for a man to await for conflict, and one to not disappoint, the man did charge headfirst towards her. Does he mean to parry and counter? Already, his means of approach perplexed Helle, yet her eyes dulled with confusion for just a moment before she was embraced by the heat of his blade. Forward her blade flew aiming to force him to parry it. Surely, none would chance grave injury in a spar. A liar is what Uriel made of her thoughts. Not only did he not move to parry, but the disgusting stomach churning sound of her blade sinking into his hand, digging itself cleanly through his palm until he proved capable of grabbing hold of its guard, shook her greatly. Such a brazen tactic that she would have never expected him to commit to, but something like this requires for one to steel themselves at a time well before the execution.
Uriel did not leave her any time to question his methods. Is this how someone who has faced many wars and battles fight? Such ignorance to their own tolerance in favor of victory? How interesting. Yet, his bravado will bring him no distance in their bout for Helle is not that easily bested. Her skin roared with light, the flames licking her person irritating the rushing Blut Vene that paints her skin with glowing blue lines. His sword impacts her, but she is left uninjured. Even as the impact knocks her away, her hand releasing her sword, she is quick to regain her composure, and yet, she continues to retreat soaring farther away upwards from the makeshift crystalline platform out at sea.
Interesting. Uriel’s gaze blazed before her, his blue eyes as intense as his flaming sword. Helle couldn’t help but let her emerald eyes blaze themselves, as if Uriel’s fire had actually wounded her. Her arm is up quickly forming the most basic of Quincy Bows, a simple short bow that quickly expands into a larger form of itself simply because of Helle’s adequacy with Reishi Manipulation alone. Quickly, a barrage of Reishi Arrows began to rain down upon Uriel forcing him to take further action if he wished to reach Helle’s position above him. Seeing how they would be fighting with any tactic available to them, she would spare him nothing as she took full advantage of her range to send him back down to Earth. Is his conviction truly as dazzling as he first makes it out? She will push him and learn of this soldier’s conviction.

Ah her skills made themselves known right away in a defensive technique that Uriel sadly had no access to. Perhaps it was because of his specializations elsewhere, or just never having the resources to be taught. But such a thing was bad for him as the dip of his blazing sword pressed against exposed skin. Such force was enough to blast her backwards, something which she seemed to place her energy into doing as well. Of course, while she recollected herself he would be given some time to deal with the matter of a sword within his hand.
A rough breath left his mouth, causing his chest to vibrate. Pain was something he had long discarded, something he had given up in the pursuit of his life. He'd waste no time bringing his hand towards his face with the handle resting in front of his mouth. It would open as he bite down on the handle turning his head while jerking his hand the other way- removing the rapier from his hand. It would begin to drop to the sea, as his hand leaked a bit of crimson before it ceased. It would twitch once, twice, before closing into a fist with some force.
It seemed he still possessed function of his hand, somehow.
His gaze, would turn upwards as he detected the pull of Reishi around him. Helle had formed a bow of some design and seemed intent on firing at how. Using his shunpo he'd disappear with uncanny focus, each arrow flying past him with a grace which was in contrast to what he just displayed. He seemed to be someone who held but savagery and fluid grace to his movements. The question remained which would he use. He couldn't remain on the defensive forever, however.
The sun shining overhead would be his answer, as a thin smile came onto his lips. He was fighting with one arm behind his back, while she had the near full utilization of her skills. It was time to event the playing field. In a burst of speed, and power, which generated a shock wave underneath him causing the sea to burst rapidly around them. He'd arrive high in the sky, as the rays of the struck him. If Helle looked upwards she'd see his form blocking the sun somewhat as he raised his blue weapon into the sky.
"Cast your gaze, and sacrifice your sight, Sol."
An explosion of fire, no, solar flames seemed to emit from him. His enform engulfed in a blazing inferno, the arrows she fired would be absorbed into the inferno before it pulsed once exploding outwards. Emerging from the fire would be Uriel, the wolf's fur he once wore now replaced with flame. Blue irises now actively set aflame, as fire traveled up his sword and across his body. His power, steadily, rising.
However, pointed directly at her was the tip of his sword. A small ball of reddish, orange energy began to concentrate before quickly expanding into the side of a small rock, before shooting at her. It would be followed in rapid succession by four more, and should they strike her would feel akin to being struck by a rock thrown by someone of immense power. And of course burn the surface they struck, provided she dodged them they would merely stop slight above the surface of the sea.
"We're really working ourselve!"

Casted aside as if worthless, that’s the fate Serathiel was given as Helle watched Uriel rip her sword from his hand and toss it aside. She, initially, felt herself frown as her trusted sword fell to the Earth and plopped into the sea with a small splash that barely disturbed the lazy waves. However, she knows Serathiel is not forever gone, and her focus quickly moves back to Uriel as the Reishi string of her bow is pulled back releasing another torrent of arrows down onto the large man. Yet, he showed a magnificent reactivity and continued to dodge without seeming to break a sweat.
The more he dodged, the clearer it became to her. Simply put, his energy, despite seeming similar to her own, clearly had its differences that hinted at another member of the Vandenreich. Is that Shunpo that he utilizes? Ah, she’s unable to voice her inquiries just yet before she senses his drastic increase in energy that propels him upward expediently. Not sensing him heading directly for her, she did not take any immediate action to safeguard her person, and instead, focused her attention upwards towards the man. His form is nothing but a shadow to her as he stood between her and the sun, the outline of his person seeming to become one with the giant star’s glow. She could feel it. He is not simply a Quincy.
The words he spoke next, shook her slightly, but it was not fear. Anticipation? Yes. That is what she is feeling. As his body exploded with fiery energy, the bow she held did nothing but dissipate into the atmosphere as she let the warmth graze around her whole body. She could not help but shield her eyes from his marvelous glow, and as she is allowed to view him once more, she could not help but smirk lightly at the fiery man that floats above her now.
No time for marveling however. Uriel is quick to point his flaming blade towards her, preparing energy before the tip of his blade. A large fiery ball, yes? Helle mustn’t allow herself to suffer any injury. Her mind recedes, momentarily to the buzzing sensation emitting from her side right where Uriel’s last swing had landed. She can’t afford to take this man lightly. Quickly, her body became enhanced by a light coating of Reishi. No longer shall she rely on her movement skills to grant her safe passage. Instead of the quick stepping movements that the two were using before, Helle now seemed to move with more fluidity as she danced to the side of the first flaming ball of energy that soared her way. The next four are met with the same fate as well, her movements quicker and more precise than before as she flew through the sky. Noticing their hovering above the waters of the sea, Helle lowered herself lower to the waters and began to fly above them circling around Uriel in a wide radius.
Her hand reached down and grazed the surface of the sea as the Reishi around her fingertips seemed to fall off. As she moved forward, small bubbles began to rise in quick succession. Anyone with any type of energy recognition will be able to sense the Reishi that coated each ball of water like a capsule. “You’re rather hot. Allow me to cool you down.” She said to no one in particular due to their distance away from one another, and before long, hundreds of small bubbles hovered in the sky, and in the next moment, with Helle simply pointing her hand towards the burning man, all one hundred of those Reishi empowered bubbles flew forward like bullets fired from a small armada.

The intensity of this combat encounter was making the internal fire of Uriel to begin to grow, becoming enthralled in the spectacle of combat. Granted he was someone with nearly a decade of soldiering behind him, and more practical experience then Helle. But she was something else, a genius perhaps in the art of Quincy Craft. It was rare he could encounter such an entity alone without the help of equally trained soldiers aiding him. So he would need to savor this experience to the maximum.
Of course she was able to dodge the balls, he didn't expect less of her. As they hovered about the surface of the water, his eyes would follow her movements as she decided to circle around him. An interesting tactic, always on the move. It was smart one might say, but definitely not quite the same level of exhilarating he was hoping for. She was playing the safe, if not smart, game of all this. He would need to start revealing his trap cards soon if he wanted to take this fight to the next level. Very well.
The enhanced hearing was able to pick up on what she said, causing a chuckle to escape his lips. She was the type to make small quibs in the middle of battle. That was almost enduring if not for the extreme number of whatever bullets flying up at him. His response would be quick, as he rotated his sword in a wide circle around him as beach sized balls of those fiery orbs appear'd around him. With a push of his hand he'd send them hurtling downwards to meet her bubbles. The large area the set of orbs covered wouldn't nearly be enough to meet the hundred of balls she had.
But that wasn't the point. His left hand would close as he muttered a singular word. "Flare." The first set of orbs which had settled at various points above the water, the ones she first dodged, would explode. But not in a forceful fashion, instead spread across the large area a blinding light would erupt across the area. So intense that it could be seen fore miles away, as all five of the original orbs denoted in a display which would blind any normal person. It would, at the least cause some level of distraction if not eye pain for someone like Helle.
At this point his second set of balls would strike against the fury of bullets. The sound of hissing could be heard as the two opposing elements began to mash. Of course many of the bullets would make their way to Uriel striking agaisnt him as he stiffened grunting his teeth as he blocked his body with his arms and knees. But a second word would be uttered as the balls made it near the surface level of Helle. "Nova."
In that moment, with the bright light of Flare still active an explosive fiery force would be felt across the sea level. Flames burning which such potency would wash over the area and much of the bullets. The effects of such a fire, and explosion, would be amplified by the sun high within the area.
