Getting away helped sometimes avoid one's problems. Running from the truth or other little things. His digits cupped around the ruby saucer cup tipping it back. The beverage felt smooth going down his lips. He'd taken to drinking more frequently finding it a vice. Something pleasant and distracting from this world. He didn't sneak medications or try so hard anymore. What purposes in training until you drop for nothing?

Didn't mean anything now or then. It was a pointless crusade all around. His digits gently raised the rice wine bottle pouring himself another round. His frame sat still on the log he was on. It was irrelevant things in general as he sipped looking over the beach. Drinking and enjoying the scenes was hard.

Spending your entire life fighting for a cause you thought meaningful only to discover how pointless it is. Perhaps he could take up smoking to go with his drinking. His blood control made him very good at enjoying his alcohol but not sub coming to it.

The sunny day and smell of the salt on the air, this was a good place to waste time. To stay away from the world and its dysfunction and reality. To escape into something deeper and find some meaning.

After his confrontation with that still-mysterious girl in the woods outside Karakura Central William had wandered around the countryside of Japan hoping to find something familiar. The massive and sprawling metropolis of Karakura was incredibly alien to him as was random zombie-summoning girls trying to kill him in forests. Though he guessed even for people used to cities and forests that second one would still probably be a shock. It had been a few days since then and William had time to reflect on his introduction to the world outside Namibia. Initially he wanted to just say screw it and return to the Skeleton Coast but after some time alone he came to the conclusion if he ever wanted to find something for himself in this odd world he would have to deal with odd people.

Eventually William did find something familiar: an ocean. Though most of his time on the Skeleton Coast had been spent in the vast desert of Namibia on rare occasions he would end up in Walvis Bay for some reason or another and sit and watch the calming tides of the Atlantic Ocean. Considering how many disruptions and chaos his life usually consisted of viewing the ocean was a much needed departure from such events. Thus when he came to a somewhat secluded beach William walked along it, bottle of vodka he'd bought from a peddler a bit inland in hand, and cast his gaze out across the Pacific, or what he could see of it at least.

To an observer William may seem a drunk but to him it was just a way for him to get through quiet days when his thoughts were prone to wandering to the past like a beleaguered, bored time traveler. Upon finding a small section of the beach cut off from the rest by a wall of foliage and trees William took a seat on a fallen tree-turned worn out log and gulped down a swig of vodka. Noticing another man who seemingly shared his fondness for public alcoholism William raised his bottle in an acknowledging toast and nodded in his direction. "Lovely day."

The distinctive sound and sense of another person prowled on his senses. The smell of one who also had partaken with the fruits of liquor of some kind. Though different in background and appearance. The beverage they drank held a similar premise.

To entirely numb the senses to numb the pain of loss or other such things. To let one's self cascade downward into oblivion. That was the sense it gave when drinking rice wine. "Mhm." He didn't have much to say these days, talking felt so empty. Dreams and future plans were like bad tv dramas that went nowhere.

Certainly one could watch them unfurl like wings into a distant theater. He was a Vice-Captain, this was far as his road went. There was no grand ambition or desire for power anymore. Just the emptiness of his cup on his mind. Maybe saving a life with his medicinal skills.

His eyes watched the waves saunter closer before an inevitable retreat came again. It was a strangely relaxing place to visit from the Manor. Nothing meaningful came or went through this beach. Save perhaps the companion who arrived to drink. Takehiko didn't brim with questions or jump around.

His excitement with his time alone had grown dim. As had his belief in things such as himself or some destiny. He was a noble of the Kuchiki house, he worked hard for some reason. To prove to people some nonsense that he shouldn't of worried about, to begin with.

Tipping back the cup he drained the liquids down his throat, still not feeling the sweet buzz he craved.

At the stranger's acknowledgement of his toast William turned back towards the ocean and inhaled deeply the salty air around him. William frowned. Despite the initial familiarity of being near the ocean it was quite unlike any beach he had been on before. In Namibia the ocean scent was dulled by endless dunes and fields of sand, here it was almost too pristine. Perhaps it was the Skeleton part he missed not so much the Coast part. With a glug William downed another swill of his chosen alcoholic drink and leaned back.

A few minutes of silence passed before William looked back over at the man nearby and noticed he seemed as miserable as himself. Seemed like they had in fact come here for similar reason. Or at least it seemed so on the surface. Still something was off about them but William could not quite put his finger on it. Still unaccustomed to using his ability to sense spiritual presences coupled with only having come in contact with one or two other supernatural beings William could not quite tell who or what this person was. Perhaps out of interest, or just as likely out of boredom, William introduced himself to the stranger "Hey, I'm William. You?"

How melodious the sound reaching his ears. The sound of the beverage washing down the throat. It held a wonderful liquid sound akin to the crashing waves. Resounding in one final swallowing noise. He heard the telltale signs of introduction upon the air.

William was the name given to him, the chipper, and more vocal of the duo thus far. From what he could glean, the male was spiritually aware. "Takehiko." He said his name, not seeing a point in last names.

For him at this venture and moment, the colors that made life vibrant were a faded echo of the past. No matter how often he stood on the stage of his medicinal skills. When the lights dimmed it was an empty stage.

When he began his journey prior to this he didn't want to die an ordinary Shinigami. He wanted to be more to accomplish more. But slowly it became apparent that he was but a greedy man. One who sought more than he should have in any station.

Ulv Auber had been right about him in every single fashion. All he did was ask for help on everything. He always came hands outstretched for something, never offering in return.

Pouring more into his cup, he released a remorseful sigh into the air. Raising his cup as the wave plastered the sand with a blast of seawater.
