Captain Kuro Okami

The darkness pulsed through the small room.

A single opened doorway was leaking light within it; and the one who stood on the other side of it was met with the most strangest sensation. Hairs rising up on the back of one's neck. The sense of adrenaline pumping in the back of the skull. The sensation of being a child before a bear, or a lion. Something was within that room, something that craved for blood. Craved to kill.

Bloodlust.

Quite an odd sensation for a utility closest.

The craftsmanship of the First Division's barracks allowed the smallest beads of light against one of the walls. From the edges of that light, a figure began to appear. Darkness gripped and tugged around his body as his white hair came into view, beads of the light giving glimpses at how stark that coloration went against his uniform.

Drip... Drip...

The sounds of water dripping down into a pool could be heard. As more of the figure's body left the shadows and entered the room, the smell of iron began to fill the space. The figure's head was pointed downward, and at last his arms were freed from whatever shadows he was held within. The entire process only took a few moments, but that urge to kill, that desire for violence... for the man that was entering the room, it felt like an eternity.

At last, his body was released from the wall, and he fell to the ground with a resounding thud.

The figure's shoulders dipped, his head raising as he adjusted his eyes to the light. Just as suddenly as it had emerged, the bloodlust vanished. "...Can you please shut the door?" A raspy voice asked, its owner stumbling to raise himself up off of his knees.

If the door was not closed, then the man who had appeared would be plain to see. His pale white skin, his shock-white hair, the bags under his eyes... the blood-soaked captain's Haori he wore still dripping, dripping away...

The gods didn’t bestow her knowledge about what type of creature she was destined to face. Nor did her instincts say about the way they’ll act. Ikiya couldn't put it in complete words, but if there was a word to describe who she had encountered during her first time doing an intern that she set herself up with. It wouldn’t be the word, satisfying. Ikiya sought out a path to success. Having been graduated out of the academy, she was given a set of wings. Wings that would be used to scope out her career and mold herself to the person she can see herself for years to come. Ikiya couldn’t expect people to share the same type of experience they’ve faced, when meeting someone..Unordinary. The presence of the stealth force commander, felt akin to something that came out of a horror flick.

It didn’t feel like a good way to introduce themselves to a hatchling to a fully grown bird. In comparison between Ikiya and the man before her. The feeling she had, as a small drop of sweat began to see its way down the side of her neck, was unsettling. Even when she had touched the sliding door, in order to let herself in. Something shot her. A daunting presence that pierced her heart, as she placed her hand on the door, that belonged to the commander. He commanded the door to be shut, revealing to her that he didn’t sound like he was a fan of the light. Ikiya held up a picture in her mind, that he felt like a vampire.

Ikiya also came up with a wild thought that maybe he could be a vampire. Ikiya made a subtle coughing sound and cleared her through, as if she was beginning to converse with this unsettling creature. Unknown to what might he do, if she were to say something that’ll upset him. “Excuse me for intruding, but I’ve come to this division, in the hopes that I can learn a few things…” Her eyes were shut, when she finished those few words. Allowing them to be processed. He could hear the trembling tone of her voice. Even if the nocturnal encyclopedic were to mask the nervous behavior. He would’ve smelt it from a great distance. Her average stature partially kept light from baring its fangs on the poor man's neck.

Captain Kuro Okami

He merely stared at the woman as she began speaking in reply, the deep void his eyes contained not budging in the slightest. "…Well, yeah. That's what Shinigami do."

His voice rasped, at odds with the casual nature of his reply. His body shifted, stumbling forward a bit, before he simply moved to the side. His gait sloped back and forth as he moved the chair that the closet held out of the light, letting his backside fall down into it. "…" Kuro blinked, before suddenly gripping into his side. His eyes bugged in his skull; the sound of his teeth clacking against one another popped through the closet. His throat tightened up, along with his face, but he never released a single sound.

Once again, that bloodlust surged... before just as easily subsiding.

A long, slow breath left his body after that. "…Bandage…." He told the woman in the door, his hand grabbing at his side as he tried to stem the bleeding. His unoccupied left hand pointed out at the box next to where the chair had resided previously; at the medical station that had been setup there.

Each ragged breath came out at a low keel. His expression hid from the light, the white hair concealing his face. …Got hit more than… I was supposed to… and now there's this one… Must be new… coming into my closet… If the woman looked closely, she would be able to see how badly stained the floor in this closet was. She would also likely be able to spot all the different cobwebs and other piles of dust inside of it. Only someone who was incredibly new would come into this closet.

After all, who would want to use the closet of Kuro Okami after he left the First Division Vice Captaincy?

Ikiya felt like she didn’t pick the right words out of the boxes of thoughts lingering in her head. It came off as a typical newcomer that she is. The expression she held, after the reply came out of the mans mouth, was a disappointment. She sounded like someone who was too shy to confess her true feelings towards a man they love. She hardly have the type of feelings to say something professional. The atmosphere didn’t leave a good sign for her. However, she wanted to impress him in a way to where he would acknowledge her desire to grow.

She would have to come up with something that held more meaning. When she wanted to say something else, that would add to her previous attempt. The man had uttered another word. Her eyes felt more focused than usual. She held the same amount of focus in her movement, as she would to when crafting material. Ikiya didn’t say anything back, as she noticed he was bleeding. She’s now wanting to know about this person and his well being. She’s no nurse, so she can’t easily identify what sort of pain he’s in. Ikiya used her eyes to trace where the man was pointing towards.

Ikiya calmly approached the box that he had pointed at, with footsteps that felt like she was about to trample over her left foot. Ikiya couldn’t handle the nervous tension that surged through her body. He wasn’t helping her in anyway on how to settle down. Her face turned away, as she was using both of her hands to grab bandages. Her sweat annoyed her and so did the air in the room. Nonetheless, she tried to hide her annoyance when she spun her body around to face the man once more and approached closely. She slowly handed him the bandages. Ikiya was ready to reveal her prayers to him, as if she was standing at an alter. Waiting for god to fulfill her wishes. “My name is Ikiya Fumitana and I am hoping that...Maybe you can, like, train me.” Ikiya thought about finishing off with a sigh of relief, but she only swallowed the air in her lungs and relaxed.

His body jerked again, his entire torso thrashing a bit as he tried to contain the sensations of pain. Once again, he did not make a sound. The woman was clearly tense; but that did not seem to concern the man who was trying to get his body to calm down again. Once he managed to get himself relaxed again, he let out a low breath. His eyes slowly widened again, taking in the world around him.

He could see the dim light that was pouring in from the door. He could feel how she moved, the way she was kempt. She did not have anything noticeably wrong with her; despite that, he could see that she did not have a significant amount of muscle definition. In fact, he could not feel much power or threat from her at all. His eye slid over to where she was trying to work the bandage; maybe she was going to be trouble after all. She was having difficulty just drawing it out of the box.

She reached out with the bandages, and he took them with his free hand, blood getting onto her wrist in the process.

"…" The Captain did not seem to acknowledge this in the slightest. Without pause he drew the bandages over his side, and then he tilted it toward the light. The shadows from the light shifted around the bandage, and at last he let out a great gasp, along with a grunt. An actual expression of sound at the damage he had taken. His entire body loosened up after that, his arms resting just behind his knees. "… Like, train you?" He asked, repeating her words exactly the way that she had said it. It was then that he winced again, before immediately calming down.

She could see into his eyes, now.

Hollow. Even though his gaze was facing her, it did not look like he was truly looking at her. His eyes were black as the void, and she could see the star-shaped scar that was positioned directly above his left eye. She could see the black bags that dug into the sides of his gaze. "…Okay." That single word rasped out of his mouth.

Just like that, the captain of the Stealth Force agreed. "…Water." He told her, pointing at the bottle that was contained inside of the box. After that, he let his head lean back, completely removing his focus from her.

There was a feeling that she couldn’t escape. She felt like she was being patted down by a security guard, making sure that she didn’t have anything too deadly on her person. Better yet, it felt more like death was breathing on her neck. The sound of metal shackles, jingling around whenever it connected one another. He finally made use of his energy to take note of the girls appearance. Whether Ikiya should feel creeped out, or thankful is what she’s wondering. Ikiya continued to watch him go through a state of adjusting himself. He looked like a zombie that came out of his grave. Ikiya began to feel somewhat concerned for his well being, but maintained her professional attitude around him.

The way his body looked, made her think that he came out of a battle by a short of a hair. It could also be possible that he is suffering from some type of disease. It was best for her to ask him about it. There’s a lot she wishes to know about him. Specifically his name and what type of person she’s dealing with. He had repeated the words that came from Ikiya’s mouth, as he opened his eyes. She noticed those bags under them. With much doubt in her mind, it sounded like he was accepting her request when he added an okay.

A sudden surprise lifted the face of Ikiya, when she felt like Ikiya wouldn’t be worth his time. She learned not to judge him this early on. Ikiya once again traced her eyes along the way, when he had pointed towards the location of the water. Obediently retrieving it, midway into collecting bottle into her hand. Ikiya began to start with a question. “Do you mind telling me how did you get your injuries? If you don’t want to, I understand if it might be a sensitive subject...But I would like to fix this uncomfortable feeling right now…” She finished with a sigh as she handed him the bottle of water as he requested.

Captain Kuro Okami

The man in front of her did not seem to notice her surprise at him granting her request. He appeared to take it in stride, just as he had everything else. He was glad she listened to him and got him the water. Needless to say, it would have been much easier if she had simply closed the door as he had asked for her to earlier.

"…" Kuro was silent toward her question, taking the bottle of water in his hand. Tilting his head back, he filled his throat with it. Gulp. Gulp. Gulp… Down his throat the fluid went, and his eyelids at last began to relax. "…What makes you feel…. Uncomfortable?" The man asked her, the rasp in his voice have diminished significantly. He was finally answering her question.

"What…? I was just doing my job." He told her, the dirty clothes shifting this way and that back into place. "…Fighting the Gotei's enemies…" He explained, looking back toward the door once more. "…That's what Shinigami do." He finished, before rising back up to his feet.

How well informed was she? Did she know anything about the man before her? Did she know that he was the Stealth Force Captain, Kuro Okami? She likely recognized the captain's haori he wore, even drenched in blood as it was. But this was the Shadow Captain. The one who was never seen entering or exiting the building when a Captain's meeting was called. The one who was rarely, if ever, actually in the Gotei. If she were particularly astute, she could perhaps figure out who he must be from a process of elimination. Or perhaps she would think that he had stolen this uniform. He had appeared within her squad's utility closet, after all. But if he had stolen it, that would have required for him to take down another captain. And in that case, how could the blood be so dried, as if it had been on that garment for weeks?

But she had not asked about any of that. She had simply taken him at face value for a Captain.

"…" He regarded her for a moment. And then another. At this point, she'd be able to smell the dried blood coming off of his cloak. It was positively foul. And yet, he seemed unbothered by it. "… " He looked at her for one moment, then another.

And another.

And another.

Finally, he lifted up a single finger, pointing at the light in the doorway.

"…Stand there."

"You carry this...Strange air around you, like you are a horror attraction." It was the best way that she could've put it. It wasn't the best way to introduce her to a captain, with the ability to teach her things. Ikiya had expected a bit too much on a first impression when meeting a captain outside of the academy for the first time. Ikiya had to dismiss his weird nature, as part of the Gotei’s uniqueness in having weirdo captains as guardians of this place. She didn’t let a moment go to waste, as she recklessly choose an oddball as her teacher. At the time, she had thought what would her teacher be like.

Ikiya didn’t ponder about if they’d be strong and live up to the title of captain. A thought she had back then, questioned whether they weren’t a con artist and pretended to be a captain in order to get some sort of money out of it. Ikiya’s right eye sneak a short glance at the half dead captain. She’s beginning to have more thoughts and concerns. She began to assume if she had made the wrong choices and picked whoever stood out the most. It was a quick decision and if she were to rewind time.

Ikiya would be able to have thought it through more. Her mind raced as she continued to hide inside of her thoughts. The end result gave her a headache and a visible frustration. Once she held her head like a basketball in a fit of frustration, the man can notice that something is bothering her. Ikiya’s indecisive nature took a beating out of her, like a ghost fighting for power over the body of its host. She looked like a panicked teenager who was regretting her life choices.

Ikiya snapped out of her short episode and let out a dramatic sigh. The smell of dried up blood, dragged her senses back into light. It had a scent of a dead body that’s been rotting for 12 hours. It didn’t smell worse than her own workshop, but it punched her in the nose to make her notice the bad smell. It was a good idea that she kept that thing slightly open. Leaving it shut, she might die from suffocation. Ikiya made a face of disgust, but attempted to hide it from the shinigami. “What do you do in here, just hope to rot and die...again? Even my own workshop doesn’t smell this bad” Ikiya complained, until he had pointed towards the door and told her to stand where the light was. “I’ve begun to notice that you aren’t the one with many words” Ikiya continued as she stood where he had commanded. “What now?”

Captain Kuro Okami

"A horror attraction…?" Kuro paused for a moment, apparently mulling over that phrase. He tilted his head for a minute, before shaking it. "No, I'm not." He finally got out, dismissing the thought without dwelling on it any further.

Her hand reached for her head. It looked like something was stressing her out. Well, Kuro was quite a bit more used to dealing with that. That gave him something to work with. Something to sink his teeth into. His mouth opened a bit, before she suddenly let out a sigh. The blank expression on his face remained, though he had grown still. Not moving an inch. Perhaps he was thinking about something.

"…What?" Kuro asked, before understanding what she meant. "This is where I used to work… And where I do first aid. As for why I…" His hand moved to the side of his head, trying to think. Trying to come up with why he came here. At last, he found it, and let out a large sigh. The most emotion outside of pain he had displayed since she had entered the utility closet. "…It just feels… like home." He concluded, before narrowing his eyes at her. "And I'm not rotting, or dying." He explained, before she directly addressed how little he talked.

"People don't talk to me." Kuro told her matter-of-factly, as if that should have been obvious. That was a common theme in his tone; there was no nuance to it at all. "…Hold still." He ordered her, stumbling forward out of the chair.

His left hand reached out, and at this point she would be able to see the most disturbing thing about the man. His arm was severely misshappen, with claw-like fingers that stretched for well over a foot. The individual points traced along the ground, tracing her shadow.. "…Done." He told her, before rising back up and looking straight into the light. "…" He paused again, looking back at her, before remembering what he had been thinking about earlier.

"Follow me if you want pancakes. They'll help with that headache of yours."

He told her, gripping onto a spare set of clothing that had been in one corner of the room. The clothing was dusty, and covered in cobwebs; but they were otherwise clean. Painstakingly embroidered, even. Much nicer than what he had on right now, by far.

With that, he walked out of the room, and began going down the hallway.

Ikiya began to learn very little about the man as time flew by. To her, it felt like a good idea to randomly ask him questions about his well being. It was the only way to know about her semi-mute teacher. He didn’t seem like the type to want himself be known, like a masked crusader. He had his own way in remaining under the radar, maybe for personal reasons. She’s slowly understanding who he is. She should’ve asked for his name and what division he’s in. Ikiya listened with open ears and paid attention towards the few words that came from his mouth. Ikiya almost felt bad for the guy, but she guessed that she is here to talk. Though she isn’t a consultant. “I may not be a therapist, but I’ll find a way to pierce your heart” She says, as she formed a gun with her finger and pretended to shoot him with an invisible bullet.

“You have my wor--” Her words were cut short, as he instructed ikiya to hold still. Ikiya wasn’t sure what he was about to do, but she didn’t have a good feeling about it. Her eyes looked like they were screaming, as his creepy hand reached towards her. Did i upset him? What does he think he’s doing! He can go to prison for sexual harassment! Her thoughts shouted from inside of her head and triggered an alarm. She held still, yet her instincts told her that she should act before he regrets it. However, her alarm went off and she drew blanks afterwards. “Huh…” That was all she could make of the sudden action this man took. “What did you do? You almost made me have a heart attack!” Ikiya cried, while placing her left hand on her chest, as she addresses her dissatisfaction. “You can go to prison for that” She pouted while crossing both of her arms next to her chest.

The man wanted Ikiya to follow him, as he mentioned about pancakes and her headache. “Wait, where are we going” She asked, as she sighed and began to follow behind him.
