You know, Alex still kinda felt like shit lately. That was fine though. Wasn't like, an emotional kind of feeling like shit. Just the physical kind. Honestly, emotionally he'd been doin' pretty fuckin good. He'd only met Vegas yesterday, but he was pretty sure he'd murder anyone who tried to touch her. Hard to describe, really. He'd figured he'd be a fuckin awful dad.

Ah well. He still had some pretty important conversation to have about all this. He'd come to Africa wanting to hang with Nel, after all, and he'd just ended up getting his ass beat and feeling gross. Well, and meeting Vegas, that was cool. Still, he'd finally made it to the Tundra at a time he was fucking positive that Nel would be around, and he made his way on in with a bouquet. Cheesy? Yes. Extremely. He didn't give a fuck though.

"Yo, babe, you home?"

Always busy Nelliel was in the life of a civilian, how different it was to that of an Espada or even a stray arrancar. She really couldn't believe centuries had past since that time, regardless though she didn't despair or even regret that life she left behind. The hollow feeling in her had begun to fade, strange as it felt to remember those feelings.

Yeah why!?

She called from another room when she sensed Alex arrive and see if she was around, of course she was. It's not like she did much other than sit around the Tundra, work and occasionally go hang out with Abalia. So she came out wearing a hoodie and shorts, evidently not dressed to impress but she was pretty comfortable and looked at him and the flowers with a confused expression.

"Flowers? What are you going to apologise for?"

Folding her arms under her chest she leaned against the door with a frown. Picking up human customs random flowers meant a guy wanted to apologise for something or whatever it was. She could only remember so much information from the great big interweb sometimes.

Grinning to himself as he saw his girl, Alex shook his head at her question. Well, it was pretty fair for her to assume that, and he guessed in a sense he was dropping heavy shit on her. But he hadn't really gotten them for that.

"Apologize? Well, I won't lie and say I've got nothing important to talk to ya about, but I just picked these up 'cause I haven't seen you in a hot minute. Guy can't show some affection for the girl he loves?"

Setting the flowers down, he simply took a moment to put a hand to Nelliel's cheek, looking into her eyes with a small, earnest smile. It was pretty massively different from the usual grin he wore, but it said so much more at the same time. There wasn't much he had to prove with Nel. Honestly, he didn't feel like he had to prove anything at all with her. Maybe that was exactly why he tried so hard.

"I uh... Well, now you got me all self-conscious, feeling like maybe I should be apologizing. Man, look at you."

He was just teasing, of course, but he did take her hand in his. He figured this was probably something he should take a little more seriously, so he took a second to collect himself.

"Listen, uh... Dunno how to explain all this without just rambling the whole story, so I'll just kinda toss it out there. I've got a daughter. Didn't really know 'til yesterday. She just kinda...showed up."

She gave him a look of doubt as he justified the flowers but shrugged it off and looked all innocent.

"I suppose a guy can... You shouldn't go run off for so long. It gets boring without you around you know?"

She was no small lady but he was still tall enough she had to put a little effort into standing on her toes to put a quick kiss and pull away. It was in her nature to make love not war.

"Yeah! You should be apologising for leaving me on my lonesome so much."

Nelliel smartened up though when something seemed to be bothering him and he started awkwardly. Maybe he did have something to tell her? Sure enough she was left blinking in confusion when he finished his words. She looked like she wanted to say something but she couldn't think of something to say so she reached up and ran her hand through his hair.

"A daughter huh?"

There was an uncertain tone in her voice but it wasn't upset or angry. She just didn't know what to make of it all.

Alex's smile grew just a touch at Nel's words, and admittedly it was very heartening that she took the whole thing in stride. He hadn't really expected her to get mad or anything, but it was...still nice, you know? He worried about things like that sometimes.

"Yeah. She's, uh... She's special. Real slow. Not really gonna sugarcoat it. Spent a long time looking for me, and her mom sure didn't help."

It was obvious he was biting back a bit harsher choice of words there, given he was talking to Nel here, but his hand still grew just a little warmer from the hint of anger there. It definitely bothered him, and considering his own family history and long time of wandering aimlessly, it wasn't hard to see why.

"I know it's pretty short notice, but I'm gonna take care of her. Feel like that's really the only right thing to do, you know? I... I wanna be a good dad."

Nelliel looked at him, she was quite still and staring at his eyes with a look of worry reflected in them while he spoke about her but she didn't appear to be focused on it at all but she was squeezing a little bit tighter than firm with his hand. It wasn't intentional, it was just the result of her daze.

For his many faults, Alex was at least pretty good at reading women. He wasn't completely stupid, after all, and he could see her mind was...somewhere else. It was only as she squeezed his hand tighter that things really coalesced in his head. He didn't know what to really say, so he just wrapped his arms around her, held her as close as he possibly could.

"...I really fuckin' love you, you know that?"

What else could he even say at a time like this?

She blinked a few times at him before she felt herself be pulled into a hug and she squeezed tightly.

"... I'm fine. I don't know what to do. Am I supposed to meet her? What if she doesn't like me? Will it be weird?"

Her voice was still pretty distant, kind of like she was talking to herself while trying to figure out how this changed the whole dynamic. She didn't want to meet this daughter that didn't like her and created issues in their relationship. What if she didn't like her? Could she be a total brat that didn't know any manners or courtesy.

Alex could only shake his head at those questions. He knew Nel couldn't really help but start to fixate on things like this. Simply kissing the top of her head reassuringly, he spoke quietly, running a hand gently through her hair. He knew she liked that.

"Hey, c'mon, babe. Who doesn't like you? You're a sweetheart and a half. It won't be weird at all, promise."

There wasn't much more he could really say, but he wasn't the kind of guy to just keep on telling her the same thing over and over. Just wanted to make sure that she wasn't upset.

She leaned in as much as she could before nodding into him at the reassurance that it wouldn't be weird. Maybe she was being too judgy off the bat, she shouldn't discount his daughter like this. It made her feel bad that she was having doubts but she was happy with how things were now and to imagine a ship sinking with new weight was troubling.
