A Path Worth Traveling?

THE YOUNG BEAR
Why is she here? Her critical onyx eyes move here and about looking about at the environment taking it all in. She stands near the courtyard of the Shino Academy watching many people come and go; some students and others simply commoners passing by. Ulv's word continue to replay in her mind over and over as she sighs against the tree trunk she leans against.
Elyss shouldn't probably be here. This is like taunting a drug addict with a bag of cocaine. Though, the difference is that she's torturing herself. Maybe she could use this as inspiration, but again, the words of Ulv filter through her mind. She's not stable enough to gain strength. If that is true or not is something she has complications with discovering. She wouldn't want to lose herself in rage around fellow students and end up hurting someone badly. How would that look? Hell, it may just get her kicked out at best. Who knows how severe her punishment would be?
'This was a bad idea.'
Her mind keeps reinforcing the idea of turning back and heading back to the house, but her body finds it hard to move as if weighed down by her stubborn drive to grow. Maybe she wants to prove Ulv wrong; show she can handle this. This insecurity is choking her.
She's ripped from her thoughts by more students passing by with swords in their hands discussing something about training. The words of Stephan then pop up into her mind. Can she really believe that such hopeful faces will one day become oppressors? Her curiosity about so much stays her, but she can only be so still for so long, so with a tired deep breath, she turns to take her leave. Maybe next time, after a bit more training, she will find herself more sure about this decision.

COVERT OPERATIONS SQUAD CAPTAIN
It had been a long, long time since he had been to Shin'o Academy, the school for Shinigami. A small, nostalgic smile spread across his face as he quietly walked across the courtyard, watching as various souls made their way to the school, mumbling, whispering, and gossiping as the Captain of the Stealth Force let out a soft sigh. How many years had it been since he walked across this courtyard, the halls of the academy as a student himself?
It felt like it was only yesterday. Thus, with another soft sigh, he turned his attention back to the many souls coming and going, before fixing his gaze on a red-headed girl near the courtyard, observing them as much as he was. Tapping into his emotional powers, he could feel the immense conflict and contradiction in her heart. The desire to prove herself, yet mixed in with insecurity and anxiety. A look of concern passed over the man's face as he began moving toward her, watching her turn away and start to leave.
Performing a Flash Step in order to quickly close the distance, the man reached out and softly tapped Elyss on the shoulder
"Is everything ok? You seem...lost, and confused. Are you a student?"

THE YOUNG BEAR
There is a sudden ping in her mind. Though, ping is too strong a word to describe it. In all honesty, it felt more like her mind suddenly became extremely cautious of the area around her, yet, she knows not why. It's similar to a sixth sense she would say that is simply letting her know something is around her that should be given attention, but what? Elyss does not understand that it is simply her spiritual aura taking note of someone expending their own energy about her. However, due to her weak spiritual energy, her senses act as ones would in a horror film causing her hair to rise and adrenaline to randomly pump through her making her feel wary for no apparent reason. Then, she suddenly feels a finger on her shoulder, and she reacts accordingly to the fright her body failed to adequately warn her about.
"Ah!?"
She jumps quickly turning around as her body moved backwards at the same time to put half a foot distance between her and this new individual. His words had gone into one ear and out the other, and it takes her a good few seconds to calm her rapidly beating heart and process what had just occurred. Her hand moves onto her chest as she sighs deeply closing her eyes for a moment. When they do open again, they show a small amount of anger with a coldness to them that is easy to show due to the deep black color of them. Her mouth moves, but his answer does not come out first.
"Hey! You shouldn't sneak up on someone like that! I could have had a heart attack or something!"
Her voice is only raised by a few decimals. Her eyes finally look this man up and down noting his appearance. Did he just ask if she was a student? Is he a teacher or something? Maybe he's a graduate. A Shinigami?! He will see her eyes go from their cruel coldness to a impartial stare as she straightens slightly and looks off at more of the wandering students.
"And no. I'm not a student, but..." 'I'd like to be one.'
Her mind speaks the words she doesn't feel she should speak. It is obvious there is conflict within her about this situation even though her face doesn't change. There is a small pause between them before she speaks once more.
"Who may you be, though, to bother with me who's not much to look at? You don't look like a student either."
Elyss returns his gaze back to him with a more interested gleam in her hard onyx eyes. She's never one to judge a person too quickly and finds all to be of some interest until she sees more of their personality and nature. If they are someone she thinks deserves her friendliness, she will give it. If they prove to be nothing but a waste of time or a problem, she will deal with them. That is how simple it is.

COVERT OPERATIONS SQUAD CAPTAIN
As his hand instantly retracted the moment that she turned around, a bit startled himself at her own surprise, Henrex rose a hand and softly rubbed the back of his neck as he smiled awkwardly and laughed softly at the unexpected reaction, taking a look around at the gathering stares as she briefly raised her voice, sighing again and stepping forward in order to keep himself from raising his own voice in any margin.
"Sorry about that, I didn't really think I was sneaking up on you, since...well, we're out in the open."
As he listened to her response, he took note of the sudden change in expression that the red-head went through after she denied being a student. It wasn't guilt, it was the more of...a feeling of longing, in a sense. His warm smile returned as he kept this in mind as her gaze steeled itself once again and she asked him who he was, making the note that he also didn't look like a student.
"I'm not a student. I'm...actually the Captain of the Stealth Force."
Sliding his cloak off his shoulders, he turned around and revealed the white haori underneath the article, with fluffy lining and a small chain to connect and hold around his shoulders -- complete with the symbol of the Stealth Force and their insignia. Should the woman need further proof, she would see the two swords at his side, one with a golden hilt and purple blade, hidden away in a black sheath. Whereas the other had a simple white handle and silver-colored blade, complete with a red sheath.
"Why are you just standing outside of the Academy if you're not a student? There's nothing wrong with sightseeing and just touring the grounds, but sitting out here like that isn't going to do much."
Sliding his cloak underneath his haori, he gestured to the grounds.
"Do you want to be a student?"

THE YOUNG BEAR
Being out in the open simply makes it easier to sneak up on another. It is hard to have your attention focused on everyone around you, and it makes it easy for someone to stay out of your vision. That's how public thefts occur, right?
Elyss, for one, didn't think this to be all that funny, but she can see the slight comical relief spooking someone by accident could give. That, and this guy just seemed a bit on the apologetic nervous laughter side of the spectrum, so she doesn't hold it against him. He seemed to mean it when he apologized. He's just lucky Elyss didn't automatically swing on him for his actions.
"Ah... It's fine."
She mutters a bit before looking to the side and raising a hand to the back of her neck to rub there feeling a bit awkward as well, but she's quick to regain some composure as the man begins speaking again. Oh my. He's not a student, but he's a captain. Elyss has little understanding of the hierarchy and positions within the Gotei, but someone who is a captain of a stealth force is probably a really big deal, and here she is yelling at him. Well, if she wanted to become part of this organization, showing one of the leaders who more brash side isn't going to help her in the long run. Though, his smile tells that he is not as angry as some could have been. In fact, it seems he understands somewhat of what she's feeling inside.
She felt the need to apologize a bit for her rudeness, but he takes off his cloak revealing his haori. Still, Elyss does not have the clearest idea what the meaning of it is, but the fact it is being used to further his point of his position, she assumes it is something important to his title and bites her lower lip. She, then, notices his sheathed blades; a symbol of a Shinigami. She knows that much at least. She is busy looking him over when he asks that oh so important question, and she pauses; her eyes narrowing as she looks around slowly.
"I do wish to be a student, but... I've been told I might not be suited for this."
Her mood seemed to drop further than before as Ulv's warning plays in her head. Is it worth for her to join this and risk hurting others or herself?

COVERT OPERATIONS SQUAD CAPTAIN
Despite the hostile response, Henrex could feel the tinge of awkwardness between them. Thus, as they both fell silent, rubbing the backs of their necks, the red-head finally broke the silence, causing the Captain to breathe a sigh of relief and relax. However, he noticed that after he told her what his rank was, and that he wasn't a student, he saw and felt the confusion in her mind.
A person who seemed interested in becoming a Shinigami, but they didn't know about the Gotei, the hierarchy of the Shinigami's organization. While it wasn't a big surprise, as there were plenty of Souls that lived in the Rukongai, or even in the Academy that didn't know or fully understand it. But, as he asked his own question of wondering if she even wanted to be a student, the man watched her expression change, as well as detecting the emotional distress that he seemed to cause.
However, her response is what set that in stone. She wanted to become one, but she felt that she wasn't ready. Tilting his head to the side, he took a step closer as he spoke:
"Well, why did someone say that?"
The young man took a moment to look her over as he spoke. She was nervous, with eyes moving around and refusing to look at him. But, she seemed to be in perfectly fine, health-wise, to be entering. But, he could feel the conflict of emotion in her at the notion of the previous question. While he didn't know what exactly what was causing these worries and fears, whatever they were, he wanted to help alleviate them in order for her to have the confidence to register.
"If you're worried about not having enough base skill to join, that's not a problem. The whole purpose of the Academy is to train you to become a Shinigami."

THE YOUNG BEAR
Why did someone say she wasn't ready? Well, it wasn't just someone. It was a very particular person that Elyss felt that the name alone would have this important man rethink his words about her being ready for a place that all kind of beginners join. The problem isn't her skill. In fact, she may be a bit more prepped for this kind of thing than most. Her issue is something much more complicated and uncontrollable than what Henrex may think.
She keeps her eyes trained on a tree across the yard letting her thoughts flow a bit longer before slowly looking to the Captain. Should she reveal her worries to this person? She noticed he seemed a bit closer with concern in his eyes. Tch. Being so concerned for a stranger? It only made her want to rely on his judgement of her situation, but still, she felt it wrong to speak too much of it. Though, maybe speaking up a bit and mentioning that name will help this man see just how valid her fears are. No doubt her name will cause a reaction. The woman who is currently over her no doubt has some fame among Soul Society in some form or fashion.
"Ulv told me that it would be a bad idea. I have no control over my issue to be safely around other students. I may end up... hurting them when the teachers' backs are turned."
She speaks a bit timidly with a hushed volume to keep outsiders from hearing; her onyx eyes narrowing to gauge his reaction. How would Ulv's name effect him? Would he still have the same words for her to join knowing she has an issue that could hurt others? Actually, she has yet to even learn this strange man's name who apparently would be someone she'd have to follow orders from if she did become one with this organization.

COVERT OPERATIONS SQUAD CAPTAIN
Concern, kindness, and care, even for strangers. That was who he was. No matter how little he knew someone, there was always a large sense of empathy and care for others. Thus, as he stood there, waiting for her to respond, he could tell the gradual, growing comfort that was budding in her while in his presence. So, offering a warm smile as he stood there and listened, though his gaze turned to one of both concern and uncertainty as he heard Ulv's name.
Knowing that she was involved was...conflicting, to say the least. He wasn't just going to up and leave this situation just because Ulv's name was thrown in -- not in the slightest. In fact, this only strengthened his resolve to lend his help, as much as he could, in order for this woman to become a Shinigami. The root of the issue was still a cause for concern, however, as, well, it was a new topic that the Captain hadn't really had to deal with or handled before: self-control and anger problems.
Thus, it became hard for him to immediately think of any kind of exercise or, really, any sort of method that could help with that. So, as he fell silent and took this small bit of time to do some thinking about what he should do. Eventually, he took in a deep breath as his hand went to the back of his neck once again.
"I see. That could be an issue. Self-control and anger problems aren't an easy thing to fix or control. It's definitely a valid concern."
Henrex let out a sigh as he went back to his thoughts.
'But, at the same time, it can also sometimes need a specific way to approach.'
So, turning around and softly gesturing in the direction he was facing, he began walking away, giving a clear indication for the girl to follow him. Leading her a bit further away from Shin'o Academy, as well as other prying eyes and ears, Henrex took a brief look around in order to confirm that they were alone. He noticed the drop in her volume, and it didn't take a genius to figure out that there were a definite fear and timidness of the subject at hand.
Thus, noting this, the first thing he sought to do was take her away from others in order to make her feel more comfortable, and not have any worry of others hearing.
"If you're ok with it, could you tell me more? What commonly sets you off, how you cope with it, how Ulv and others have tried to help...you know, that stuff. If you can, I can try and help you, and get you into the academy."

THE YOUNG BEAR
Tell him more of her situation? Her eyes flick down to the ground in silent consideration. He wishes to know more about her anger and about Ulv and her ways. This has her wondering just how famous or infamous her current teacher is. Henrex definitely had an expression change when her name was mentioned, and it was not one of respect or happiness. He looked... worried.
It also seems he does not have an idea of how to actually deal with her issues. He's not a person who she should ask for help with anger management. Though, does that make him inept in helping in any form. He isn't a captain just for the sake of it. There is something about him worth understanding more of to better herself even if it does not fix her more troubling issues. She is learning to control herself so she can be stronger without hurting people, but that doesn't mean she can't grow stronger while learning control. Would doing both help her better in the long run. There is a sigh from her at such thoughts before she looks back up to speak, but Henrex is moving away from her with motions for her to follow.
She at first was unsure if she should, but if he is truly a captain and truly wishes to help her, she may be missing out on a once in a lifetime chance even though she will have a long life. Well, it could be a long life in containment or ended short by her own issues. One, sometimes, must take a chance, so she sighs and follows after him to a more remote spot. She did have a bit of a fear about speaking about her issues in public so easily, so she did mentally thank Henrex for suggesting they move. That alone pushes her to elaborate a bit.
"I apparently have a power that builds in me causing a sort of... imbalance with my personality I suppose. Ulv is training me in controlling my anger, but I feel that this power may make it impossible to simply control my anger with happy thoughts or a strong mentality. I... wanted to perhaps develop my power to see just where the root of the issue lies, but what if I release something that is I can't contain? What if this power within me is something uncontrollable?"
She rubs the back of her head much like him and looks down again with a pained expression clearly frustrated with the matter.
"Ulv tries to put me in uncomfortable situations to draw out my inner anger and force me to calm it. It helps sometimes, but then, I noticed that when fighting, I get excited; this excitement makes it easier for me to get angry. One second, I'm fine. The next, I blank out attacking everything around me for no reason but to hurt someone. I... I wanted to maybe dive deeper into my powers by becoming a Shinigami. I hear their abilities have something to do with the inner selves... Kind of like looking into their own souls and drawing out power from something..."
She obviously doesn't know too much about The Gotei, but it seems she is speaking a bit about the Shinigami's zanpakuto spirit.
"Maybe... looking within myself will help me understand this... problem of mine, but I'm unsure if I should risk such."
She finishes speaking and makes quite the pissed expression huffing and looking to the side at the ground obviously unhappy with how things are; unhappy with herself. Henrex may speak now if he wishes after learning a bit more about her and her thought process. It seems her head is in the right place, but wanting to do good and actually doing good are two different things.

COVERT OPERATIONS SQUAD CAPTAIN
Though no words were spoken at that moment, Henrex could tell that Elyss was glad about him having them move away from prying eyes and ears, and so, he gave a warm smile in return and a soft nod as she prepared herself to explain. As she did, Henrex took the time to think and process everything carefully, using this as a way to plan how he could help -- now that he was getting more information. To begin things, it wasn't directly a part of her personality -- merely a byproduct of the influence of the cause -- but rather, it was a power that seemed to hold heavy influence over her.
Putting a hand to his chin, he took careful note of Elyss' worry -- something that was to be considered with dealing with something that seemed to be so unpredictable. There was definitely a concern with trying to work with and put a leash on something like that. But, like he usually did, there was always that stubborn glimmer of optimism that pushed him onward. So, reaching over and softly patting her on the head as he responded.
"I doubt it's uncontrollable. A strong mentality is a part of self-control, but understanding it and figuring out how it operates is the best way to balance everything out."
As Elyss continued, Henrex quietly groaned. He wasn't surprised that Ulv would do something like that. It was...exactly how she would handle that kind of situation. But, he wasn't going to judge it. It was how she handled it, and there wasn't anything he could do about it. Nevertheless, it was most certainly not how he would do it. So, with a sigh, he continued:
"Well, that's...certainly one way to go about it. Either way, I think you're making a good choice with that. Looking into yourself like we do is a good way of figuring out more about yourself and the powers that you hold."
Putting a hand to his chin again, he took a moment to think, before resting his hand on his sword.
"You didn't hear wrong. Zanpakutos are meant to be a reflection of themselves, and their abilities usually reflect some aspect of them."
As he said this, his hand gripped the handle of his sword tightly to put emphasis on it, as well as him tapping into the bond that he and his spirit had in order to bring him forward and materialize in the physical world, appearing next to him, gazing at Elyss with an equal warm to his master.
"I think I've got an idea of how we can start. I'm not sure how effective it'll be, or if it'll work well, but...I tried."
Smiling sheepishly and rubbing the back of his neck, he quickly composed himself and continued:
"Try tapping into that anger and the power along with it, but try to keep it contained at a very low level. Don't try and control the full extent of it all at once, try and start out small."
