Yoriko stepped through into a familiar place. With a look around the area she quickly discerned her suspicions. Whatever had attacked her the and that blue haired shinigami the last time she was here, it didn’t appear to be present anymore. Whatever the reason might have been for a Hollow as powerful as it had been to exist in Soul Society, she couldn’t grasp. But if it’d been taken care of then all the better. Whether it was because of her own presence there or not she couldn’t be certain but there was one thing she could be sure of. Training in and around hollow-infested areas was risky. Risky because any number of unwanted people could interfere either for good or for bad reasons. She also didn’t want people interfering out of concern for her safety. This time around safety would need to fall by the wayside. She was here to strengthen herself, not be babied by concerns of others and what they might perceive as self-inflicted mutilation.
After that fight with the hollow and seeing the damaged it caused to not only herself but the other shinigami it would be a good reminder to her of why she was here right now. To strengthen her defensive capabilities so as to prevent herself from being caught off guard like this again. ”This spot won’t do though… I need to move a bit further I think…” Muttering to herself, Yoriko glanced around looking for a path to take. She didn’t want to head closer to the districts, her training might disturb the innocent souls residing there. Instead she would need to head deeper into the woods. Her aim was to find a proper place to train herself, particularly an area with alot of flat terrain and rocky surfaces would prove efficient.

Several minutes later Yoriko located a good spot which matched her predesigned criteria almost to the letter. A large flattened clearing spread out for a quarter mile. While there was a clear and obvious lack of loose rock around the spot she picked out, there were plenty of solid facings she could ideally work with. ”This should work then.” She stated, motivating and assuring herself. Placing down the bag she brought with her, Yoriko proceeded to remove the armor she’d donned. All of it. While the armor could prove very useful in combat, today it would just get in the way of the particular type of training she had planned. She’d brought with her a store of food and water. Enough for three days. She still didn’t have the kind of currency the people in Soul Society used so bringing her own stock of reserves had been the only real option. Living off the land was also an option she’d considered but one Yoriko would prefer to avoid if she could help it. This wasn’t about survival of the fittest. This training was more about surviving in the face of grave danger. The fights might have been some time ago and she was sure her current strength could have overcome those odds without issue, but what of future encounters?
On second thought, punching the ground without infusing her reiatsu could only result in unwanted effects… Yoriko unclenched her fists and instead chose to release. The burst of Reiatsu sent a cloud of settled dust hurtling out in all directions away from her. The key, Yoriko sword, would definitely produce more accurate results than randomly punching the ground. Turning the manifested gloves so that her fists faced downward, Yoriko then slammed her fist deep into the solid rock at her feet. One thing was certain, Yoriko gladly accepted that using her plain fist for this would not have worked very effectively. In a way, punching rocks was a sort of training in itself. It stressed endurance and Yoriko's patience. But her determination shown through bright and strong. This was something she had to do, even if it killed her. Though if this training ended up killing her then the results wouldn’t really matter all that much… Yoriko couldn’t tell just how much time had passed since she started, but looking at the field she’d etched out Yoriko realized how much her efforts paid off.

Wiping the sweat from her brow, Yoriko deemed it necessary to take a break. The actual training hadn’t started but cutting out the initial one thousand square meter project had proven rather tedious and she was beginning to feel tired and hungry. Some rest before she officially started would do herself some good. Walking back over to her bag, Yoriko sat down and fished out a prepared and wrapped sandwich as well as a bottle of water. The patchwork ground looked funny at the distance she sat. After her training she imagined this area would look a lot different than it did now. This was another reason she’d chosen Soul Society instead of the human world human. Everything there was alive, living in peace or as much peace as it could. Disturbing a large area of the land, even in a place unpopulated by people would obviously involve a lot of other lives instead.
Plus the wildlife, while less consequential than human life, was still something Yoriko didn’t feel needed to be sacrificed in the name of training herself to become stronger. Soul Society was ideal. Everything here, as far as her understanding of the place went, was already dead. Yoriko figured that accidentally crushing a life here wouldn’t amount to much since it could just reincarnate back in the living world. At least this was what she told herself. She shoved away any thoughts to the contrary as those would only serve to hinder her progress. That and she didn’t want to think about ending life even if it were by accident. Taking the last bite of her sandwich, Yoriko gulped down the rest of her water. Placing the trash back into her bag, Yoriko stood, refreshed and ready to start on phase two of her training. Punching the rocks had been tedious, but this next phase wouldn’t be any less tedious. Now that the rocks were smashed into the bits of circle shapes that she wanted, Yoriko needed to break off each of the one thousand so that she could actually make use of and pull out the rocks… Accomplishing this next phase would likely take longer than the first phase had…

She’d been right about this phase of the work taking longer… The grip she could manage on each rock did not provide a very good angle with which to push or pull on each one. Being limited to her fists which she’d extended using her energy, it still provided very little in the way of actual wiggle room. With enough room to fit her fingers and enough leeway to push in either direction with just about the same amount of room, breaking off the bottoms of each rock while maintaining the overall volume of each, proved unusually difficult. Some rocks she could hear efficiently crack, a good sign. Others unfortunately crumbled or split. Thankfully only a handful of the rocks split to a degree where they became two or more separate entities. They were still useable but unfortunately became smaller rocks than her previously predesigned parameters had wanted. The biggest problem with these first two phases of preparation were by far the amount of time required to set things up. But with the full hundred meters of land properly prepared, Ritsuko could effectively begin her training. In the morning… punching and breaking the rocks had unfortunately taken up her entire allotment of time for the day…
Exhausted, sore, and generally drained, Yoriko headed back over to her drop spot. Among other things, she’d also brought along a sleeping bag. While she could just head back for the night and return in the morning, Yoriko anted to make sure that her progress on the land wouldn’t be disturbed. If she spent a night here and nothing happened then she’d consider heading back to bathe and rest up properly tomorrow night. For now she rolled out the sleeping bag and would keep a watchful eye on the place just to make sure her work wouldn’t get messed with. It was already dark by the time she laid out her sleeping bag but sight wasn’t the only thing she could rely on. While her ability to sense the presence of others was average and could resinate into her sleep to some extent. She’d wake easily if something or someone powerful significant came by to poke around. Facing the direction of the work zone, Yoriko watched closely and carefully for a while before nodding off into the world of dreams. If anything she was glad she didn’t need any bug spray as she’d forgotten to pack any with her. Thankfully this forest seemed to be relatively devoid of any bloodsucking bugs.

The sun beamed down on Yoriko's features, reaching her eyes and eventually waking her to the morning sunrise. It made her wonder about whether Soul Society was similar in shape to a large spiritual planet or not. Certainly it couldn’t be one massive flat plain if it saw a proper sunrise and sunset each day. Stretching, Yoriko's eyes fell over to the prepared area. Nothing seemed out of place or disturbed. She could probably get away with vacating the area for her own health and safety at night then. With the sleeping bag rerolled and tucked back into the bag, Yoriko pulled out another prepared sandwich. This one a breakfast of sorts with an inherently American theme of eggs, bacon, and cheese on buttered toast. While the toast wasn’t exactly crispy or crunchy by this point, it was still a delicious meal to start the day off with. Washing it down with a bottle of orange juice and water, Yoriko returned to her misshapen construction zone.
The field was set, Yoriko was now prepared to begin her training. It may have taken a whole day to prepare but this section of crumbled rocks would provide her enough to at least start with. This one section of terrain, could provide enough rocks to last a week… If she managed to use up what she had today then that would be ten thousand per day… Thinking about it though, each section would probably take two to three days to exhaust depending on how reusable the rocks were be after being used once. That and adding in the time to shape up the area… would amount to about sixteen days of punching and kicking rocks and thirty-two to sixty-four days of actual training not including breaks and recovery time. All in all Yoriko figured that this targeted training would likely take three months in total… Shaking her head, Yoriko dismissed the mathematical thought processes. It was deterring to think about. She just needed to perform, defend, and strengthen her defenses. That was what this whole training was about. She didn’t need to think about the process, doing that might only discourage her from this self-motivated training and that wasn’t what she needed right now.

The training in question was a simple matter. All it called for was smashing rocks against herself while avoiding using any special techniques besides her own innate energy to defend herself with. A task she was quickly realizing was not as simple as she’d originally believed. Sure she could handle a few rocks thrown at her, but up until now, most of her training had involved avoiding dangerous hits. It wasn’t to say that her defenses were lacking at all, but exposing herself to this much grit and pain at once and over an extended period of time… To say that she wasn’t starting to feel it down to her core would be a lie. Several hours had passed since she’d started. Most of the daylight to be exact… Yoriko's entire body was wracked with pain and visually her body looked to be in far worse shape than she realistically felt. It was a miracle she hadn’t broken any bones by now. In some ways she was glad she didn’t have a mirror to use or she’d be tempted to look. From what she could see of herself, it didn’t look good. Her arms and legs were torn up and dirtied by the disintegrating rocks she continued to throw at herself. Blood, both fresh and dried, clung to or trickled down everywhere. The clothes she’d brought with her were in literal tatters from the day’s activity.
”I’m glad I didn’t ask Henrex or Mitsuyo to help me with this…” Yoriko sighed, falling next to her bag. If she looked as bad as she felt, then she was greatly relieved that no one was around to worry over her. Popping open the bag, Yoriko pulled out a towel to wipe away the dirt, sweat, and even the blood from around her neck and face. A warm towel should have felt relieving but then that probably only applied to a dry towel after a bath. From the very first dab, Yoriko cringed as pain shot forth from the cuts and bruises littering her body. Perhaps for her first day she’d overdone things a bit… In her over eagerness to train. Tomorrow was optimistic… Realistically what she needed to do now was clean herself up and dress any of the more serious wounds she’d inflicted in order to prevent possible infections. Going back to her barracks would garner too many questions was there and she didn’t feel like answering lest he forbid her from this sort of training… Though knowing Henrex, his objections may be unlikely if he knew why she was doing this, but she still didn’t want to risk the possibility of ending her training early…

”I wonder if Henrex is asleep right now...” Yoriko wondered, gathering up her bag in one hand while choosing to hold the towel in the other. Putting it back into the bag now didn’t seem like a good idea. Not with it being covered in her blood and potentially spreading that blood around the contents of her bag. ”I really hope he is because I wouldn’t like having to explain this to him either…” Turning back to the site, Yoriko memorized the location. She would be back. Maybe tomorrow, perhaps the next day if she allowed herself a day of rest before beginning the training process again. For now she needed some aid and the supplies she’d brought with her would not be enough for that… Turning back to face the direction of the districts, Yoriko decided to remain within Soul Society. Someone less involved would worry about her less and she knew just the person who might be able to help her out. Pacing herself, unlike her first trip out to the forest, Yoriko Stepped towards Soul Society’s medical division. Beetle brought her here before and it took only a moment for her to identify the building.
With a cautious step, Yoriko walked up to the door of the elder’s building and knocked. After some shuffling and a turn of the doorknob, An old man appeared beyond the threshold. “Oh my… whatever happened to you… Yoriko was it? Please, do come in!” He ushered Yoriko inside before she could even utter an excuse or reasoning for being there without Henrex present. It didn’t seem as if he cared much whether she had an excuse or not as he brought her into the main living room. ”Sorry for coming unannounced like this…” Yoriko apologized, bowing her head even after taking a seat at his gesture. Hot tea was already prepared and laid out on the coffee table and he set to work preparing her a cup. “Whatever may I ask happened to bring you into such a state as this?” he asked, unable to hide the subtle worry layering his voice. [colo#00008B]”I… uhm… Well I decided to do some private training to improve my abilities…” Yoriko trailed, not exactly wanting to share the details of her training to him. He handed her the prepared cup of tea and she took it in her hands, embarrassment playing over her features when she noticed that even her hands were littered with injury. ”Sorry… you don’t need to worry that much… I’m not trying to kill myself or anything…” She uttered, trying to assure him away from thoughts of such a notion.

”Please don’t tell Henrex about this. Please… I don’t want him to worry needlessly…” Yoriko cupped the tea in both hands, attempting to alleviate the heated pain it brought to the cuts on her hands. “Whatever this training of yours is… I’m sure it’s for a good cause. But I would suggest taking it a little easier on yourself if your intent is to prolong this training for any amount of time.” The elderly man offered words of encouragement, doubling up with a suggestion of caution. “While it isn’t much, I can offer you a warm bath and some clean clothes to use while you’re here. And don’t worry, I won’t tell Henrex about it.” The elder winked his recognition. The last time she’d been here she’d rushed out without so much as a thank you for the hospitality. And yet here he was still being kind to her despite that. he truly was a considerate and caring person. ”Thanks. I appreciate this. And I’m sorry for running out like I did last time. Things got a bit… Complicated…” Yoriko sulked, thinking back on her emotions at the time. “Don’t worry about it. I fully understand the issues plaguing you.” He smiled, giving Yoriko a knowing wink which sent the girl into a deeper, guarded fit of embarrassment.
“I’ll prepare the bath and a guest bed for you to rest your head in tonight. By the looks of it you’ll need some medical attention so after your bath, do seek me out. I’ll help you dress up some of those injuries of yours.” He offered his place and assistance for Yoriko. ”Thank you… I owe you one for this.” Yoriko sipped the rest of her tea and accepted his more than generous hospitality. It was more than she could have hoped for from someone who’d only met with her once before. Once her tea was finished, He guided Yoriko to where the bath was. Left to her own care while in the bath, the girl stripped off her tattered clothes and rinsed herself off before entering the actual bath. Even rinsing was painful as warm water washed away grit, grime, and blood. Flowing over and through her still fresh wounds. Yoriko winced each time she poured the water over herself. She really had overdone it for her first day… A couple of days spent resting before continuing the training would probably be the best option…
The bath proved more painful than she’d anticipated. More so even than the rinsing process. What soap she used, stung wretchedly as it permeated the cuts on her body. But even so the bleeding from them was thankfully minimal now. After the bath, Yoriko wore the clothes he offered for her to use and aided in the dressing of her injuries, applying a salve to the deeper and more severe lacerations. As for sleep, it came quickly and easily. Yoriko's exhaustion from the day’s exercise was felt far more readily from the moment her head hit the pillow upon the borrowed bed. ”I really should pace myself more carefully… Too much too quickly and I could really hurt myself…” Yoirko yawned, not daring to turn over lest she inflict more pain on herself from yet more cuts. While her wounds were dressed and soothed by the salves and ointments the man had applied, Yoriko wanted sleep now more than ever and to avoid agitating more serious injuries even more than she had to. Staring up at the unfamiliar ceiling, There was something about it that reminded her of the first morning waking up in this new world. It had been a new experience, much like this one. Life, at least productive life, was all about new experiences. Before she could move on she would complete this training. Certainly she had the motivation and the determination to see it through, just like all the other challenges she’d faced up till now.

“I see you’re up bright and early this morning.” The man greeted Yoriko. He’d prepared a meal for the girl. Since her arrival three days ago Yoriko had convinced him to let her help out in anything he needed as repayment for his hospitality. Today she’d planned on heading back to continue her training. While she wouldn’t force herself to complete too much at once, it wouldn’t make throwing cubic meters of rock at herself any easier. ”Thank you. I appreciate everything you’re doing for me despite how inconveniencing it must be for you.” Yoriko bowed in greeting and to offer her thanks to him. The old man then laid out the meal for Yoriko on the table. She still felt a little concerned eating a full meal when all he offered himself was the usual tea. She’d asked the first morning, Being reminded by him that only those with strong spirits required a constant supply of food to replenish what they’d lost through exertion. She thanked him again and afterward donned her regular clothes, which he had apparently gotten someone to fix for her… Whoever it was clearly was a master craftsman. Even the wear and tear from before she started this training trip was gone.
“Do take care not to hurt yourself too badly, since I have no idea where to find you should you fail to return again in a timely manner.” The man saw Yoriko off as she set out to continue her training. ”Don’t worry I’ll be sure to come back in two or three days.” She assured him. One day to prepare her field of rocks, two days to train, followed by one or more days of rest back at his place. It’d been something he insisted on after seeing Yoriko's initial physical state upon arrival. He wouldn’t have taken no for an answer. Especially not after seeing what the girl was doing to herself… He worried, even if she wasn’t one of his own. She was doing something dangerous, and potentially life threatening to boot judging by how many injuries she incurred upon herself after just a single day of training. The least he could do was insist she return after each session so they could properly treat any new injuries she sustained while training. Yoriko hadn’t intended to inconvenience him of course, but after his insistence she decided that a routine was probably the best solution for his concern. She would return to his place roughly once or twice a week for treatment and to refresh her stamina. She hadn’t thought about it then, but she would be keeping him company on and off for about the next four weeks or days while she completed this self-disciplined training of hers… And while he would likely worry, and even Henrex might come to question her absence, this was all for a good cause. One that would hopefully come to aid Yoriko in keeping herself alive should a true life threatening situation ever occur in the future.
