Desert Nights [Reyla/Ulv Auber/Closed/Egyptian Wasteland]
Sun Sep 23, 2018 4:56 pm
Reyla rested one hand lightly on the hilt of her zanpakutou as she stared out over the seemingly endless desert, stretching her senses as far as she could looking for a particular spiritual signature. She had been sent out to deal with a particularly annoying hollow, one which had an uncanny knack of turning physical attacks aside, and since those who would be strong enough to simply overpower the hollow's ability were more sorely needed elsewhere Reyla wound up being sent out to deal with the issue.
Not that there weren't others like her with skill in non-physical combat and of sufficient power to take down the beast, but she had volunteered for more field work, so here she was. A whole week had already passed since Reyla had first encountered the Hollow, and since then she'd been stuck chasing it across this forsaken desert as it always managed to keep itself just on the edge of her perception.
To make matters worse Reyla was also running out of supplies, she hadn't planned on the Hollow actually being smart enough to run and try and draw out their conflict when faced with someone who it couldn't easily overcome, not to mention the beast was signifigantly more cunning than Reyla had initially expected. Not only was it able to avoid getting in direct conflict with her but the beast was also apparently able to hide it's presence fairly well, meaning more than once it managed to get the drop on her.
However, even though Reyla was running low on supplies she had no doubt that the Hollow was worse off as it hadn't had time to prepare for an extended trip in the wastelands where it couldn't naturally find any source of food. As such Reyla was expecting an attack at any time.
Not that it helped.
The initial attack came quickly and without warning, a long thin bone spike erupting from the sand behind Reyla in an attempt to spear her in the back. Reyla's zanpakutou seemed to his as she drew it from it's scabberd without hesitation and spun to block the strike and jump back as the Hollow she'd been hunting clawed it's way out of the sand where she'd been standing.
The beast looked like giant scorpian, save that it's carapace was covered in long thin spikes and it only had one hate-filled eye. With a screech of rage the monster used it's claws to throw a cloud of sand towards Reyla in order to obscure her vision. Well aware of what was coming next Reyla didn't hesitate to throw up her hands and shout, "El Escudo!" Suddenly in a blaze of light a green wall of light flared into existence in front of Reyla just before several white spines shot through the sand towards her, only to hit the barrier and shatter, spraying a thick black liquid as they broke.
That thick, viscous liquid was the reason this Hollow was so annoying, it was heavy, extremely resistant to removal, and restricted movement greatly, hindering most physical combatants from using their full abilities when fighting this thing.
Reyla saw the beast attempt to leap sideways as it retracted it's spent spines in an attempt to get a better angle to attack her from, prompting Reyla to drop her shield and fire off another spell, "Hadō number 4 Byakurai!"

The Flame Of Hope
Artist: Carrotwine - Song: Dark Side Of The Road
Ulv was out in the desert, having fun in the sun. She had her sunstick and drinks to make sure that despite it being really hot, she wasn't going to get sunstroke or anything. The heat and her Resolve Flame battled as she walked along, each snapping and ripping at the other with neither claiming victory. But for Ulv, stalemate was victory. Because the heat could not burn her, and so she didn't want to thoroughly trash the heat, just keep it off her so it wasn't so hot. And thus, she won by making it less hot.
Speaking of winning and losing, she saw a Shinigami in the distance fighting a large Scorpion Hollow. The markings made Ulv think it was a remnant of Drooler's faction. Mirja never did get his name. And Ulv felt so rud ecalling him Drooler. So was the difference between her and the wolf girl. Speeding up to appear behind the hollow, Ulv reached out with one hand and stopped the tail, shaking her head softly.
"My my, you look like you are quite backed to the wall" Ulv spoke, a soft, warm, and calm tone. Wholly unperturbed by the Hollow. Desert wind then kicked up, whistling around her hand before being ignited by an amber flame. That flame was directed, and the Scorpian's tail was sliced cleanly in half. "That should make things easier"
