TSUBAKI | NOT A BREATH
NOT A BREATH
» Name: Tsubaki Nideki
» Titles: The Omnituentis Ghost
» Age: 24
» Gender: Female
» Affiliation/Rank: Sixth Circle; Knight
» Association: Shadow Fall
» Physique: Tsubaki possesses a lithe body unsuited for her line of work, and if it wasn't for her conversion to being a demon, she definitely wouldn't be capable of withstanding it. This child had a generally weak constitution, not necessarily out of being born this way so much as just having never put the efforts to keep herself in shape as a human; the result is an overall thin physique. The only parts of her suggesting otherwise is her wide hips, which when she wears clothes might make her look fuller, and a large chest that makes her seem all-round curvaceous.
Besides her body, the most eye-drawing feature is Tsubaki's fluorescent slate-violet near red eyes. Tsubaki has heterochromia iridis, the feature of two different colours in one iris--she has this in both here eyes. The coalescence of bright violet hues and red tones stand out from her pale face and pure white hair, practically shining, and especially once her demonic energies exerts itself.
Training and demonic influence has restructured her muscles, so despite retaining her thin body, she ways a considerable amount at 165lbs. Tsubaki's full height without her boots is around 5'3, from the tip of her pale white hair all the way down to her little toes.
» Clothes: Tsubaki wears a variety of different clothing in daily life, but her work uniform stays constant, like she has several pairs of the same outfit. Tactically outfitted, Tsubaki is shrouded in black from head to toe, the only colour of exception being white from her shirt and her hair. A series of belts wrap around her, all holding up an equipment satchel to hold her various equipment.
NOT A BEAT
» Narcissistic: Tsubaki often comes off as self-centred, and this especially applies in her field of work. The girl isolates herself during operations, working independent from her team under the opinion that the only person who can effectively watch her back is her. Though it cause some disconnect in her team, her efficacy abates the complaints. Truthfully, this stems from her abandonment issues, providing the mindset that the only person she can put her faith in to take care of her--is herself. Not out of her coworkers' incompetence or inability, but out of personal distrust. As this isn't an established fact, to others this is often perceived as Tsubaki believing other people aren't worthy of her stature, further perpetuated by her manner of interaction.
» Distant: Actually, instead of her "manner of interaction", it's moreso due to her lack of interaction at all. Even when first integrated into the team, Tsubaki didn't talk often, usually being serious and straight to the point; idle conversation never reached her ears. After missions, the girl always went off to do her own thing, never participating in group events amongst her teammates and coworkers or just generally anybody in her circle at all. In general, she never took up an opportunity to make herself comfortable with the team. Even in daily living outside of work, Tsubaki maintains the lone-wolf living style.
» Caring: Despite her distance and misunderstood narcissism, Tsubaki can be a very caring person. With her abilities, Tsubaki is well suited to keeping track of all information in the area and informing her team of the circumstances and any potentially hindering changes and interference. Wehn the opportunity presents itself, the girl will even tend to the injuries and wounds of her allies, or outside of work even do "good samaritan" work if someone approaches her asking for it (never of her own volition). Being in the Sixth Circle can demand violent action, and the Nideki has no issues with caring that out, but it's not her preferential method, especially since here and there she'll find that taking the non-aggressive approach is just easier and quicker.
» Remorseless: The main reason she can be considered "caring" is actually more due to feeling of necessity, not from a moral perspective, but obligation dictated by social convention or efficiency in a mission. She's "caring", most definitely, as she perceives taking care of someone in these sorts of scenarios is presumably the natural course of action. But if there's an obligation to harm someone? Without fail, it will be executed. Tsubaki does so without a shred of remorse or empathy, and emotional input is just not a factor--it's a distraction. The only exception is when Tsubaki encounters someone who reminds her of some less than appreciable figures in her past, to which she acts instead with vindictive fervor.d
NOT A PERSON
The first decade of Tsubaki's life didn't feel complex. It was usually a patterned progression of life on a daily basis, as far back as she could remember, nothing really different from any other child. Sleep all day, wait for mom to come home, play with the new friend mom always brings, eat whatever mom puts in the bowl, then lights out, and wait for a new day. The cycle continued, every single day, until early 2410s, when Europe was ravaged.
In one of the waves of chaos and fury the swept over the continent, Tsubaki's house was rooted from the earth, exposing the basement she slept, ate, and played in. The whole event naturally woke the girl, and fear washed over. Having grown up never seeing anything outside of the darkness of her room, the sudden exposure to overwhelming amounts of light, and a glimpse of the sky she never saw before absolutely frightened her, not to mention the wild and unrestrained beings in the sky wreaking havoc.
By then Tsubaki was well into her teens, but the many years of total isolation left her--on all levels--underdeveloped. When the conflict came to a close and the rebuilding of Europe began, she was just another one of the orphans. Unfortunately, the lack of proper living kept her at a loss towards everything. Most people thought she had mental retardation, as her level of intellect wasn't much more than an actual toddler's. Closer inspection and social workers discovered the actual reason for her incompetence after Tsubaki recounted her past during questioning, to which--outside her realm of understanding--they were horrified.
The girl was then treated with particular delicacy, the lack of skinship and change in how people looked at her--usually with lust, but now with pity and horror--further making her feel alienated. It was especially problematic when other children asked her to play, and the orphanage's administrators and caretakers had to then isolate her from the rest of the orphans, those who didn't know her circumstances instead looking at her with disgust and judgement, as if she was some sex-crazed maniac or pedophile taking advantage of the rest of the children's vulnerabilities. To the under-educated Tsubaki, the intent and reasons for her isolation, alienation, and reception to scrutiny and judgement was never understood. In fact, she was so far behind in understanding just basic common sense, the administration earnestly felt like she had no chance of recovery.
It wasn't until several orphanages were closing down due to the change of cultural influences that Tsubaki finally found some change. An envoy of Shadow Fall was making their rounds, managing the infrastructure of the area as the person in charge of the district. Most of the orphanages were closed under his directions, and most of the time he combed through the children, picking out ones to be shipped off to training camps. Shadow Fall needed new soldiers, and Tsubaki--entirely incognisant of what this meant--was swept up with the other children, just as frightened as the rest of them.
Life in the training camps was surprisingly more tame than one might anticipate, at first. The first week was just following directions, going where the demons pointed. Though things were colder, it wasn't harsh. They were given places to sleep, a cafeteria to eat in, and all it took was doing what they told you to do when they told you to do it. Though most children were unadjusted, often whining, crying, or otherwise acting out--and in return being beaten--Tsubaki was more or less used to this sort of lifestyle. Life in the orphanage, and even before that, consisted of similar progressions. If anything, the only difference was that the adults around--demons, more specifically--didn't look at her with gazes of lust, or disgust, or horror, or pity--they didn't look at her at all. If she at all happened to have eye-contact with any of them, it was out of coincidence and a combination of wandering eyes for both parties--and in both parties, there was absolutely no emotion to their eyes. No meaningful exchange, it was like they weren't even acknowledging Tsubaki as a living creature. This change of pace... wasn't so bad.
Throughout these days, Tsubaki started to emulate the manner of interaction that the demons had with her, mostly out of fascination. Few people ever had absolutely no intents when interacting with her, so it was refreshing to be treated like just another number, and in turn she acted the same to the demons. Tsubaki didn't acknowledge their presence, only their directions, and as a whole her outward persona reflected a statue. Fascination turned to mimicry, mimicry turned to habit, habit turned to personality.
This quick adjustment made things much easier when things actually started to kick off. After the first week, the "training" elements of the training camp began, and the children were forced to work. Everyday, the general schedule was wake up, receive injections, eat, be educated about the world and their purpose in the training camps until the afternoon meal, then work on some menial task again, eat an evening meal, then another menial task before bed.
Day after day, the same thing. Tsubaki's robotic compliance made things easy for her, helping to understand the morning classes that finally opened her eyes to how the world functioned, and with this being the first time she was ever properly educated, the purpose put forth for her was--as far as Tsubaki was concerned--outright the purpose of life. At the very least it beat the purpose she served as a child, to which she finally began to understand just how dark it may have been.
The training camp successfully produced another batch of combat-ready soldiers for Shadow Fall, their official indoctrination proceeding their shipping off to specific sectors and circles. Tsubaki's general apathy made her a favourite to the demons, as she was very easy to educate and instruct, the menial tasks and physical training being conducted without complaint. Even the injections every morning, slowly converting the children into demonic creatures, was well-received by her. Some children were incompatible and discarded, some turned into full-demons, and the most favoured products were those like Tsubaki, who retained her humanity enough to be a human-demon hybrid.
Her efficiency, persona, and status as one of the rarer human-demon hybrids landed the girl in the Sixth Circle, where she started her life as an actual Shadow Fall operative.
NOTHING ESCAPES
» Enhanced Physiology: The integration of demonic energy into her body over time in the training camps--paired with constantly physical labor and training--has served to successfully improve Tsubaki's physical parametres by a long-shot. Faster, stronger, and more sensitive than the average human, the Omnituentis Ghost can easily exert the necessary level of physical power to function as a Knight of the Sixth Circle.
» Demon Magic: Tsubaki's capabilities with Demon Magic at least reach a rudimentary level. She hasn't really established her possessive element, so although she has access to demon magic, it's heavily limited due to her not quite progressing her demonic side all the way yet. At most, Tsubaki can employ simple enhancement magics, terrain alteration, and basic possessive spells, most often geared towards her missions, in which case they can range from interrogation based magics and information gathering in general, to obstacle clearing abilities that just create a force to push objects out of the way and diminish opportunities for collateral damage to occur.
Magic Spells: Demonbane: Her most frequently utilised spells are those that specifically target demons and demon physiology due to her work as someone that maintains order within Shadow Fall as a Knight of the Sixth Circle. Ones which constrict the movement and utilisation of demon energy, or the usual racial passives of demons like body manipulation.
The most common application is a body or weapon enhancement which coats the ammunition of her firearms, the knuckles of her gloves, or the blades of her knives. When these weapons come into contact with a demon's energy, they have have an abating effect, and though it's not absolute, it serves to repel demonic energy. The potency is dependent on Tsubaki's skill level with Demon Magic, but the real efficacy of the spell occurs once its within the target's system.
If Tsubaki can manage to penetrate a demon's defenses and have the effects of the spell get into their body, the spell begins to pervade through them, restricting the movement and therefore utilisation of the demon energy. It begins to shutdown a demon's energy altogether, the speed dependent on just how much energy the subject has, and in fact the more energy the demon has, the quicker the spell works.
Like a cancer, the spell invades the energy, and the more energy in a demon, the more quickly the spell's effects spread. So, if a demonic creature is, say only 4-tier, depending on the skill level of Tsubaki's demon energy it may take anywhere between 4-7 posts. On a much higher tier target, say 2-tier? depending on Tsubaki's proficiency in demon magic, this may take anywhere between 2-4 posts. Of course, this is dependent on whether the spell can actually invade the target's system, and the more powerful a demon the more difficult it will be.
» Possessive Movement: The Possessive Augment Tsubaki prefers is movement, so although she can reach very, very simplistic and low-powered employments of Possessive Shifting, the bulk of her focus in this area is on enhancing her movements, spell-casting, and reflexes.
Weapons Proficiency: Despite her physical augmentation and the availability of demon magics, Tsubaki finds that the most reliable method of carrying out her duties is through the operation of small arms and handheld weapons. She's gone through the rounds, received plenty of training, and held her position as a Knight for several years now, and over time developed an impressive level of proficiency in a wide array of weapons. It's at this point that pretty much anything around her can viably be used as a weapon with lethality.
MY SIGHTS
» Omnituens: The ability that earned Tsubaki her epithet, Omnituens has to do with Tsubaki's unique constitution and the capacity that enables her to maintain her humanity and be a demon-human hybrid. In all centres around her unique slate-violet near red eyes.
Tsubaki's genetic transformation into a demon-human hybrid was particularly slow in the training camps, and the reason for this is that all the demonic influence attempting to take control of her body and reform it initially concentrated in her eyes. Even now, whilst the transformation was successful and to a degree Tsubaki's physical body has been altered, literally all the demonic energy she exudes comes from her eyes, often the reason for their fluorescent nature.
All this demonic energy naturally caused the most hefty alterations to here eyes, which hold a unique ability beyond just physical enhancement. For the most part, what gives it the name "omnituens" is her spectacular vision as a whole. So long as her vision is unobstructed, there's no distance in which Tsubaki's eyes can't make out a subject. Her vision is basically literally perfect, so much that if she really wanted to, she could probably gaze at the stars and make out all its features.
That being said, this ability also inhibits the usual effects of lighting and distractions from occurring. Extremely bright light won't cloud her vision, and as a matter of fact, no light at any end of the spectrum can block her vision. Only actual physical constructs can inhibit her infinite sight that sees in clarity. Technically, this means even in darkness, absolutely no light present, Tsubaki can make out whatever she chooses to look at.
Even energy constructs, unless they fully occupy a physical form, can be seen through. Formations of energy like the reishi in Soul Society that form buildings will obstruct her vision, and pretty much anything that properly interacts like tangible matter, but energy-based abilities that target clouding her vision or provide an energy or light-based illusion won't impede. Illusions that effect her actual mind instead of trying to fool her eyes will work.
» Shateiel Dumah: The unique ability which gave her the second part of her epithet. Shateiel Dumah--named after angels of silence--isn't a passive like Omnituens. It requires energy to power, and depending on the circumstances can demand excessive amounts as it's multipurpose, and the greater Tsubaki expands its utility and the longer she keeps it active, the more energy it takes up.
Basically, Tsubaki's movements--and the movements of the things she's in contact with--ceases to make noise. Her steps are silent, the shots of her firearms is silent, even her words. But the nature of this ability isn't necessarily "silence", so much as her body ceasing to interact with "time".
Tsubaki's physical functions and necessity no longer flows with time. So long as her energy is flowing through and keeping this ability active, time just doesn't touch her physical body. Because time doesn't interact with her body, blood doesn't flow, her heart doesn't pump, her brain doesn't function, her need to breathe is eliminated. It's as if she exists like a ghost, her body not even exuding any heat.
Of course, there are some exceptions and odd circumstances which doesn't demand her to just cease moving entirely. The areas that she's effected is specifically those physical functions that a body normally needs to keep living. Tsubaki doesn't literally have her body just stop. She can still move around freely, interact with objects, so on and so forth. This ability just targets things like involuntary functions, as well as any sort of sound coming from her or her items.
The most interesting application of Shateiel Dumah is the process of receiving wounds and damage. A secondary use to the ability and the one that takes up the most energy is essentially delaying the effects of an attack on her. Whilst this ability is still in use, if someone attacks her, the damage and wound won't actually effect her until the ability is deactivated. This means a slash won't open a gash, a bullet won't actually penetrate her skin but just stick on the point of contact, and when the ability is deactivated, the gash will then appear, the bullet will then pierce through, so on and so forth. This helps Tsubaki to continue functioning, completing her mission on time before worrying about the physical repercussions.
This doesn't mean she just can't be hurt for this amount of time. Any time she takes an attack, if she delays the effects, it usurps an enormous amount of energy, with every delayed post being exponentially costly. Usually, an instantaneously fatal wound can only be abated for a single post. Additionally, receiving an attack which would normally displace her still displaces her, so someone throwing a punch at Tsubaki which so much force that it throws her 3000 metres? It'll still throw her 3000 metres, she just won't have to receive the actual damage to her faculties until this state is released.
This also means that all damage received during the usage of this ability hits her all at once, including all the pain, so it's very often that if she continues to endure abuse with Shateiel Dumah on, by the end of it Tsubaki will be incapacitated. Keep in mind, with the reference to "brain function ceasing", Tsubaki can retain "conscious thought and motor function" through her demonic energy as a medium, so abilities which try to dictate chemical reactions in her brain to influence her mind won't be effective until after the ability is deactivated--to which she'll also feel at full force all at once--but abilities which invade her conscience and mind through energy, foregoing brain chemistry interactions, still retain full efficacy.
