Inside her mind ritsuko dreamt of a coin, old and covered in dirt, the engravings worn and the head of the king so tarnished as to be stolen from view. She held it in her left hand, watching the mud dirty her skin. So close to her face the coin had the aroma of stale blood. she turned to her right hand and in the palm was a new spring leaf, crowned by a perfect sphere of dew, reflecting an image of her face, softened and relaxed. When she turned back to the coin, the image of the king had freed himself and journeyed over to the leaf, igniting the growth of strong roots and new foliage that reached for the sunlight, robust, virescent.
Once her training is complete she can finally get to the basic methods of handling a sword, like partying dodging and when to initiate a strike...and hopefully she'll get to experience first hand what it's like to wield her own zanpaktou..however the dream was interrupted as ritsuko opened her eyes briefly to examine what caused her to stop dreaming, was it the wind or was her mind playing tricks on her? Nope in fact she actually found the culprit and it was sudden itch on her left wrist...how could this get any worse.
"Scratch scratch scratch!"her brain was yelling inside but she couldn't besides it'd be stupid to just cheat her way through the training to get a few good scratches in before putting the sword back on her wrist, she so she kept her posture. If henrex wasn't daydreaming he could hear the shaking of her sword as similar to a body builder doing one final set on his workout only to have his body's latic acid tell his muscles that they're exhausted. However Ritsuko wouldn't be able to keep this up much longer, the more she resisted the greater temptations to scratch increased as well.

It had been a long time since he had last performed this exercise, and Henrex was most certainly out of practice. It was certainly hard to adjust from a normal sword back to a wooden one, especially when it came to the challenge that he hadn't reattempted since he had began his training in the way of the sword. Now, he was regretting that choice of not practicing. While the stutters in his arms were not as frequent as they could have been, he still was struggling.
However, as his eyes slid open, he could see something that Henrex found quite humorous, due to how relatable the situation that the young Quincy was facing. He could hear the shaking of wood, yes, but that was not what he found as humorous. He could see her arms twitching, clearly being bothered by some sort of muscle spasm, itch, or something that would cause jolting in the arms. It was a result of the wood most likely being chipped, or something of that nature.
Either way, it was still something that was something Henrex was soon finding himself to be suffering from. While his was a bit less irritating, Henrex could feel that his arms were beginning to itch as well. However, similarly to Ritsuko, he was ignoring it. There was an important lesson to learn through this challenge, and he was going to make sure that he would both relive it, as well as teach it. His eye twitched ever so slightly at random intervals as the itching began to get worse.
He knew that he had to get his mind off it, or it would soon ruin his focus, and cause him to drop the sword. So, he drifted back to an old mental technique that he had been taught and trained with in his younger days -- Mushin. The concept of being free from anger, fear, or ego during combat, or everyday life. It wasn't that they were becoming emotionless through this time, far from it. It was simply that they didn't have the need for those emotions with this mental state.
So, he let it all go.
All of those thoughts and emotions slowly dripped away, allowing his mind to blank, making his thought process a simple nothing. His mind briefly drifted towards the words that his master repeated to him from the lips of Takuan Soho, but these were soon deleted as well. The feeling was something that felt incredibly nostalgic. It felt as if he were just drifting through space itself. But, there was something that he was hoping that would change...but didn't.
The itch was still there.
In fact, it was immensely worse.
Henrex's eye twitched even more often as a result of this, his arms performing the same notion. With his mind now open to much more, he could feel the full extent of the itch, something that would potentially lead to Henrex's downfall in this challenge. However, Henrex had his determination. He knew that he would be able to last, as long as he continued to push himself.

When the stimuli landed on her skin, it may not bother her at first, but soon it will begin to rub back and forth across her skin. Once the hair or dust scratched her skin's surface layer, receptors in the dermis of the skin became irritated. In a split second, these receptors sent a signal through fibers in the skin to her spinal cord and then up to the cerebral cortex in her brain.
As soon as she feel the tch, her first natural response is to scratch the spot of the itch with her fingernails. The reason for this response is simple -- she wanted to remove the irritant as soon as possible. Once she's scratched the area of irritation, she's more likely to feel some relief. When her brain realized that she scratched away the irritant, the signal being sent to her brain that she have an itch is interrupted and therefore no longer recognized by her brain.
However that was soon quickly diminished when she realized the critical mistake she had just made -- letting the sword drop to the ground...a loud clunk sound could be heard as the sword made contact with the ground. A loud gasp could be heard her breath quivered in short, quick gasps every time she inhaled, her lungs having no choice but to painfully and rigidly take in the chilled air. She stared at the sword a few seconds before saying these words...
"No....I dropped the sword all because of a stupid itch -- I can't believe it...if I'm so distracted by a simple itch how can a function in a combat situation" Ritsuko began to feel discouraged as she laid on the ground staring at the wooden sword not on the forge of crying mind you but a look of disappoint none the less.

Time continued to pass, and nothing changed. Both of them were having issues in keeping their sword balanced, due to the itch that was residing on their hands and forearms. Both of them wished to release the sword so that they could relive this annoyance, but they both knew that they would not be able to "pass" the lesson that Henrex had put in place for both of them. It was slowly driving Henrex insane with his current state of awareness, along with the itch that had wormed its way to the forefront of his mind.
That itch was slowly beginning to set itself deeper into Henrex's nerves. It was edging itself towards the beginning of Henrex's mind, and soon -- Henrex wouldn't be able to keep the sword held for long. He could feel his arms twitching more commonly as a result of this. Henrex continued to fight the urge to scratch the itch, doing everything he could to keep his mind off of it in this state of mind.
However, it would not be long for him to be holding that mindset. His eyes shot open as the sound introduced itself to his ears. He heard the clattering of the sword against the ground, before hearing Ritsuko sink to the ground. Allowing his arms to drop, and quickly scratching the itch so that he could be relieved of the annoyance. Taking a quiet breath, before walking over to the Quincy, he put a hand on her shoulder, before kneeling, and pulling her head up so that she could see him.
"You did not fail. You simply need more practice. I have faith that in time, you will defeat the sword. You did very well for your first time."
Henrex's hand rose from Ritsuko's chin to her head, before softly ruffling the girl's hair. Standing up and extending a hand to help the girl up, Henrex only had one question to ask for the girl.
"Now, Ritsuko. What do you think was the purpose of this lesson?"
