Some would mistake what Steiner was doing as sulking, some would say that he was overreacting to the sudden impact of the assault from Mirja only moments ago, but they would all be wrong. It was the fact that she had laughed it off like it was nothing that had made him upset, not that he minded being hit, after all most of his life had consisted of varying levels of abuse. Still when she had questioned his howling and his anger at the fact, he simply stared at her, and then curtly replied with absolute composure: "
I used it all up fighting the zombies and stone soldiers. So sorry if I'm screaming a bit for having to put my own jaw back in place." There may have been just a tinge of anger in his voice, but Steiner was doing his best to not get so mad at the Wolf, she was after all not a truly bad person, and it wasn't in his nature to hold grudges. So, he swallowed that anger, and frustration much like a thick stew and moved on. After all this was his mentor and the person that he was spending the majority of his time learning from. So as she began to gather things up to leave the musty catacomb behind, Steiner found himself packing things into his pockets within his coat to better help her get more things, and to be honest he really didn't actually know how much or what he was suppose to grab.
Most of the things around Steiner were either ancient or of no material value, at least that is what it appeared to be to Steiner, but he decided to stuff as much as he could just in case there was something of value among the things he saw. After all, he was here to help as much as learn from Mirja, and though she was a little hazardous when it came toward training him, he respected her for not pulling his punches against him. After packing up a bunch of random junk, Steiner joined his teacher in leaving the room behind, following her with enthusiasm, but still in a deal of pain from the earlier fights that he had been in. Thankfully he would live, he just needed some time to recover from the chaos, and more importantly he needed a warm shower and a hot meal.
Maybe they have those sort of things up above. I couldn't tell earlier because of all the people gathering around me earlier. Steiner thought to himself as they walked past the destruction that Steiner had caused earlier.
A plethora of corpses in random stages of decay, the stone remains of soldiers, and even a bit of his own blood were splayed around in random directions. It had been a hell of a fight, but he had managed, and in a way he had Mirja to thank for that as he had only grown stronger through her training methods. He reminded himself to buy a big bowl of ramen for her when they got back to Vastime, a simple gift in payment for her teaching he supposed, but also quite possibly because his mind at the time was drifting toward thoughts of food. "
I need to get stronger so you don't have to risk your life like that again. You had me freaking out earlier.", Steiner spoke quietly as they neared the top of the stairs as he looked down at himself. He had gotten stronger, but he still wasn't where he needed to be to protect the people who he was close to, and to be honest that was the main reason he wanted to get stronger. Protecting the weak, the strong, and the in between, but most importantly protecting the people who were his friends and loved ones.
After reaching the top of the stairs, Mirja didn't waste any time announcing the tomb was clear, and then looked back to check on him. He gave her a weak smile, to be honest to show her that he was still chugging along, but also trying his best to look stronger than he actually was. "
Say what about the gauntlets and the sword? They can make us stronger?", Steiner said as he heard her talking about the weapons with enthusiasm as she put her hands inside of her gauntlets. For a few moments, Steiner had to avert his eyes from the blazing light that seemed to be emanating from Mirja, but then that light began to dim as Mirja let out a cry of pain, and removed the gauntlets from her hands in a hurry. Underneath the gauntlets severely burnt hands revealed themselves and Mirja quickly shoved them into the snow, a bit of steam escaping the particular snow pile that she had chosen to cool down her hands in. He knew she would heal, but his face did show a great deal of concern. "
Are you alright? Do you need me to give you more root?", Steiner asked in concern as he put his hand on her shoulder.
She removed her hands from the snow, unharmed, and Steiner found himself letting out a sigh of relief of his own, wiping a bit of sweat from his brow as well as he did so. He then overheard what he said and looked to the sword at his side, he didn't have Mirja's healing power, and with his tulpa spent he doubted he could risk just "activating" the sword like Mirja had only moments ago. "
I think I will wait to use the sword...don't want to lose my hands, after all what is a swordsman without hands?", he said as he continued to look at the hilt of the sword with concern, wondering if he should just ditch the sword entirely out of concern of it being too self-destructive for his own tastes. Then again he had fought so hard in the catacombs that just forgoing the sword didn't make too much sense to him as both of them had almost died down there. No, he would use the sword, but he would be a bit more careful than the wolf had been. These sort of things deserved respect and there definitely needed to be a level of caution in handling these things.
"
I could use a bath and a hot meal...does this place have any of that?", Steiner asked as he began to scan around the surrounding area looking for a place to probably nab some grub. "
And a place to get some medical treatment, after all I used up my territorial tulpa down there, and I would like to get these wounds checked and bandaged before they get infected.", he said as he looked down at himself, taking inventory of the damage done to him in the catacombs below.
