Neon Genesis Evangelion Fanfiction Empty Chapter 0.00

Chapter 0.00

*Thump*

“Start entry sequence.”

*Thump*

“Initializing LCL ionization.”

*Thump*

“Plug depth stable at default status.”

*Thump*

“Testing prerequisites achieved.”

*Thump*

“Synchronization rate requirements are go.”

*Thump*

“Pilot, please specify linguistic form for cognitive functions.”

“Eh? Er...Japanese.”

“Roger”

*Thump* *Thump* “Why...why can I hear my heartbeat?”

“Beginning test of Evangelion Unit 04 with S2 engine installed.”

“Understood...” The cool feeling of the LCL engulfed my body as the screens within the entry plug faded from the psychedelic colors to images of the testing facility's insides. The walls were a steel green and were quite bland. Even though I could speak and read English, it wasn't my best field. I could tell that the words Evangelion 04 had been written on the walls. This was the name of what I was in. Yes, I was inside of a giant machine. This was the fifth of its kind, despite being numbered as 04. However, it had something that no other Evangelion unit had inside of it: A new type of power source...the same kind that powered the Angels, an S2 engine.

My voice, which was shaky at first, became confident. “Evangelion Unit 04...beginning testing of the S2 engine.” The eyes on the massive machine lit up, the yellow pieces of glass reflected nothing. A single step was taken with the silver mecha before I fully acknowledged what was going on. I felt like a god. No, not a god. I felt like God himself. This Evangelion was a suit of armor that could determine who lived...and who dies. The mecha felt like an extension of my body rather than a simple exterior protection. I don't know why...it may be the fact the Evangelion is synchronized with my thoughtwaves or the LCL, but I just enjoyed being inside of it. I know it is cliché, but I just...loved the taste and smell of interior of the entry plug.
The mecha took another step and was even closer to the hangar doors. The doors remained sealed until the third step was taken and the foot landed on the metal floor. I peered over to the left and saw an engineer yelling at the door crew as they scrambled to open the large doors. The mecha made two more steps and the doors slowly slid open. My eyes closed tightly and I turned my head away from the front screen. The sunshine was blinding, especially against the desert of Nevada. The orange-yellow sand was reflecting the light from the blazing sun.

“Evangelion Unit 04, please exit the storage hangar.” The operator's voice came through the intercom within the entry plug. Her voice was calming, though professional. She...was annoying.

“Understood, ma'am.” I replied, slightly irritated. “It's not like I was going to just stand in this hellhole all day.” My thoughts threw me off slightly, so I shook them off. Step after step, Unit 04 began to get closer to the opening. Ten steps after the startup, the Evangelion exited the hangar. The control crew was cheering and hugging one another. I could see the inside of the control room through the large observation window. One man brought out a bottle of something, probably some sort of alcoholic beverage. The base commander was on the phone with someone, constantly looking back up at the Evangelion. Pictures of the mecha would be glared, as the Evangelion was painted bright silver and reflected a lot of light.

My body was shaking. I had done it. The first Evangelion with an S2 engine has seen the sunlight for the first time. It was amazing. The sun, the sky, the birds, the sand, and everything else seemed so insignificant compared to the Evangelion. The chrome-like exterior glistened as the few clouds parted and revealed the bright orb in the sky.

The Evangelion may have had an S2 engine installed, it still had the standard Evangelion power system. This was only there since Unit 04 was still a prototype, specifically for the rumored Mark.06. The cable attached to the back of the Evangelion was feeding the internal batteries, and the final stage of the test was about to begin. My heartrate increased and my breathing became slightly uncontrolled.

“HEY! CALM THE FUCK DOWN.” The German accent was heavy. That was the voice of the designer of Unit 04's internals, Johnathan Walker. He was a German national that was once part of Nerv 03. He had comandeered one of the communication headset's microphones to scream into my ear about my increased body functions. I needed to stay calm as we were to begin the test of the S2 engine.

“Alright, alright...Is everything set down there?”

“Affirmative. You may disconnect the power cable when ready.”

The power cable shot off with a blast of steam. The large connector slammed into the desert creating a dust plume. I sighed, my breathing stabilizing soon after. I could see the timer to the side quickly decreasing.

“Evangelion Unit 04. Activate primary power system. Password: Genesis.” The Eva's eyes light up again, this time turning bright red. The timer to the side read “S2ACTIVE.” This was a good sign. This meant that the Evangelion was using only the S2 engine. The Evangelion shook for a few seconds, though it immediately ceased as I firmed my grip on the controls. I could hear cheering from the control center. The director of the center patched a line through to the center of the entry plug.

“Good work. This is a great achievement for Nerv and the Evangelion project. However, the future of you and Eva Unit 04 isn't in North America. Eva 04 will be transported to Nerv Headquarters in Tokyo-3 to accompany the twin...Unit 03. We'll begin the preparations in a few hours. Your unit shall be taking the place of the prototype 00. Good luck, young man..”

Neon Genesis Evangelion Fanfiction Empty Chapter 1.00

Sun Jan 16, 2011 1:16 am
Chapter 1.00

“But...I can't do this alone.” Inside of Evangelion Unit 01, the Third Child was nervous. The ninth angel had appeared in the area near Matsushiro, where the testing of Eva 03 had taken place. The situation was unknown to Shinji Ikari, the pilot of Unit 01. Shinji was nervous as he spoke into the communication window, which was linked to the Geofront. First lieutenant Makoto Hyuga was the one manning the communications equipment at the time.

“Don't worry, the chain of command is fine. Commander Ikari himself has taken charge.”

Shinji was surprised. “Father?” Shinji's father was Gendo Ikari, the commander of Nerv itself and one of the most powerful men in the world. He and Shinji were distant, as he had the personality of a rock. Shinji's mother, Yui, had perished many years back and since her funeral, Gendo and Shinji had not even seen one another.

Inside the command center known as Central Dogma, a team of similar-clothed technicians monitored computers and radar systems. The team was divided into three decks that were elevated above the other. The bottom deck was the largest and held three large box-like containers which stored the three supercomputers known as the MAGI. Above that was the analysis deck that was manned by a team of six technicians. This is where Central Dogma connected with the pilots of the Evangelions. Above that was where the head of Nerv, Gendo Ikari, was located. He sat behind his desk with his assistant, Kozou Fuyutsuki, standing a few meters behind him, near the wall. In front of the decks was a large holographic map of the terrain of Tokyo-3. Over that, was a diagonal grid that would project images.

“Sir, we have visual confirmation of the target in the Toomi area. Transferring to main monitor”

Behind even the map and grid was a large screen. It was normally black, though it light up with an image of a rural village at sunset. The village was spread throughout mountains with many power lines running across the valleys between them. Behind one of the mountains to the left, something unnatural appeared. It started off as something like a large plate of black metal with a white triangle painted in the upper-right corner. However, as it moved past the edge of the mountain, the true figure could be seen.

A head, followed by another plate of black metal, which both were perched upon shoulders, passed the top of the mountain. Its head was humanoid with two crimson eyes and a mouth with maroon teeth. The upper body was slouched to the front, as if it were lazily walking. Its black arms swayed limply as it walked through more of the village.

“We should have known.” Fuyutsuki, Gendo's assistant, spoke coldly. What he was talking about was the fact that this wasn't a normal Angel. This was Evangelion Unit 03. The Ninth Angel had taken over the Eva, though it was unknown how.

“Transmit the deactivation signal. Eject the entry plug by force.” Gendo Ikari's tone was even colder than Fuyutsuki's. It was as if he didn't care about the pilot. Actually, he didn't care about the pilot.

On the back of Eva Unit 03, which was running rampant, the hatch that protected the entry plug was ejected. It shot off in a cloud of steam and landed on top of a small house. Where the hatch covered, there was a royal-blue gel-like substance covering the entire area. As the entry plug tried to eject, it was caught by the substance and was unable to fully exit. The pilot was trapped.

“It's no good!” Maya Ibuki, the youngest member of the technicians on the second deck, was slightly disturbed by that. “It's not recognizing the deactivation code or the ejection sequence.”

A few boxes reading “ERROR” in Kanji lit up in front of the screen.

“A core-like invasive structure around the entry plug has been confirmed. Analysis pattern complete...it's Blue.”

Gendo Ikari's pose didn't change. His orange-lens glasses reflected the light so his eyes were hidden from view. One hand-clasped over the other, he spoke coldly once more. “Evangelion Unit 03 is hereby abandoned. Reclassify the target as the Ninth Angel.”

Back in the entry plug of Unit 01, Shinji waited for the target to appear. No, he waited to hear word of Asuka and Misato's condition. “I wonder if they survived. What if they didn't? Where will I live? I can't live in Misato-san's apartment if she's dead.”

“Target is approaching. Prepare for ground combat.”

“Anti-invasion team, commence attack.” Lined in front of Unit 01 were tanks and armored personnel carriers (APCs). These were the mainstay type of units for the Japanese Special Self Defense Force, or JSSDF. In unison, they opened fire at the approaching Evangelion. The AT Field of the machine didn't allow the shells to penetrate, so it was like throwing sticks at a castle.

It took a few seconds for Shinji to fully realize what was approaching. “W-what? That can't be...” The startled child turned on the microphone to Central Dogma. “An Angel? Is that an Angel?!”

Gendo replied in his cold tone, “That's right, that's our target.”

Shinji was dumbfounded by his father's response. “Our...target? But isn't that an Eva?” He paused, watching as the approaching beast tore through a power line. The tanks still fired, though it was evident that it wasn't doing a damn thing. “No way...”

Gendo calmy, yet still icily spoke through the microphone. “The target is approaching. You are to defeat it.”

“But, even if that is the target...Isn't Asuka still inside?” That's right. Asuka was the test pilot of Unit 03. As the Angel-possessed Evangelion came even closer, Shinji refused to attack. “Asuka...”

The two Evangelions came within a football field of one another before Unit 03 stopped. Before Shinji could react, Unit 03 charged. Shinji didn't attack, fearing he might hurt the pilot inside. Gendo ordered for Shinji to fire, but he simply ignored his father.

“If you're not going to do it, then GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY!” A voice, in Japanese, screamed through the radio. Large columns of steel half the size of Unit 03 rained from the sky at high speeds. One pierced the left foot and another shot through the lower leg. About ten fell from the sky, with another piercing the right hand and part of the wrist. A silver beast, which matched the appearance of Unit 03 other than the color, slammed into the ground in front of the Angel. The silver beast had arms extended as it crashed gracefully. From each of its hands, a gray crossbow-like weapon was thrown to the side.

The silver beast's shoulder pylons opened from the front to reveal a knife handle inside of each one. The beast grabbed both and gracefully sliced the Angel's arms off. As it brought the knives back up, it spun the weapons around to a reverse-grip. It immediately stabbed into the neck of the Angel-possessed Evangelion. In a single and yet beautiful move, it jumped into the air, sumersaulting over Unit 03 while spinning and still holding onto the knives. When it landed, the head of the black Evangelion landed at the feet of Unit 01. The knives fell to the ground as the silver beast turned to face the armless and headless Unit 03.

The silver beast grabbed onto the entry plug and ripped it out. Like opening a bottle, the silver beast ripped one end of the entry plug off and tossed the cap aside. It grabbed one of the knives and carefully split one end of the entry plug in half. He grabbed the control module, with the pilot intact, and with the knife still in hand, stabbed the core of the Angel, which was on the other end of the entry plug. The blue gel exploded into a blood and Unit 03 fell to its knees, damaged beyond repair.

Shinji looked at the silver beast in shock. In about 45 seconds, this monster had taken down an Angel and saved the pilot of Unit 03. The nearest dual-entry elevator hatches opened and both the silver beast, which had the pilot of Unit 03 safely clasped within its hands, and Unit 01 entered the elevator. Shinji wondered who or what was inside of the silver beast.

The two descended, albeit at different speeds since the silver beast had a mentally injured teenager in its hand. When the silver beast arrived at the bottom, it laid the control seat down and allowed the Nerv doctors to attend to the pilot's wounds. The silver beast arrived at the cage behind Unit 01, though Shinji was already waiting to see the pilot of the monster. The beast's eyes stopped glowing and the panel that covered parts behind the back slid back. An entry plug rotated out and the clasping mechanism grabbed the white tube. As it was pulled back to the loading dock for the cage, Shinji ran up to the loading ramp. A white-haired male in a completely silver plug suit exited the entry plug. “So, you must be the Third Child. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Ikari Shinji.”

Chapter 2.00
“So, you must be the Third Child. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Ikari Shinji.” Those words lingered in Shinji's mind. He has just witnessed the power of an Evangelion that was even greater than Unit 01. In an instant, a recovery team came in and inspected the silver beast. The white-haired male's plug suit was more streamlined than Shinji's and read “04” where Shinji's “01” was. That meant...the silver beast was Evangelion Unit 04. The silver beast's eyes went dark, as it had deactivated itself the moment that the pilot had exited the entry plug.

Before Shinji could speak, a blonde-haired woman in a lab-coat passed by Shinji and shook the white-haired male's hand. Her name was Ritsuko Akagi, and she was the head of Project E Development. However, this only covered the development of Units 00 and 01. The other units were covered by their Nerv Branch's head of development. Unit 04 and 03 had the same development head, Johnathan Walker.

“Doctor Akagi, it is an honor to meet the woman who has designed Units 00 and 01.”

“Do not flatter me, please.” Ritsuko glanced over to Shinji, who was still awestruck. “Ah, Shinji. This is the Sixth Child, Masayoshi Tsubine. He is the pilot of Evangelion Production Model 04.”

“The...Sixth Child?” It took Shinji a few seconds to grasp that. Six. Shinji was the third, Asuka was the second, and Rei was the first. Who were the Fourth and Fifth? “It's..it's a pleasure to m-meet you, Masayoshi-san.”

Tsubine calmly walked over to Shinji. Tsubine's demeanor was quite happy. He extended his hand to the Third Child. Shinji looked stunned, as if he didn't know what to do. However, Shinji snapped out of it and the two shook hands. “Your piloting skills are quite impre-” A fist met with Shinji's face with a large amount of force behind it. The impact knocked Shinji down.

Tsubine stood over the downed Shinji. His happy and calm demeanor had turned into anger and disgust. “You imbecile. NEVER hesitate when an Angel is approaching! If I weren't there, you would be rotting along with Unit 01.” Shinji's nose was bleeding, as was part of his mouth. “You're lucky I held myself back or you would've had a broken nose.” The Sixth Child walked over Shinji, nearly stepping on his hand in the process. “Step your game up, or you'll be replaced.”

______________________________________________________

At an airport on the outskirts of Tokyo-3, a large plane landed. The plane was an Evangelion Transport Plane Model 2. This type of plane could drop an Evangelion Unit from the sky if needed, while still being able to land with the unit attached. The planes looked like a large pair of wings with two pylons sticking out of the rear. This transport landed with a trio of fighter squadrons still flying above. The behemoth came to a halt and a mobile stairway system attached itself to the side of the plane.

An exterior door opened upwards while a steel bulkhead-like door opened to the inside. Men in suits and sunglasses glanced from side to side as they walked out of the black monster and onto the tarmac. The cycle of men in suits was broken by a single man. He wore a black trenchcoat, despite it being summer. His black hair was long and kept in a ponytail. The man was obviously German or of German descent. His face was lean and his eyes were deep blue. Under the trenchcoat was a tan sports jacket with a black undershirt.

“Professor Johnathan Walker, I presume?” Another man who resembled the man in the trenchcoat slightly, walked out of a red Lotus Elan 1600. The car was older than the Second Impact and was well-kept. It was a convertible and the top was down. The man from the car shook hands with the trenchcoat man. “I'm Ryoji Kaji, Special Operations Division of Nerv.” Kaji said in a near-whimsical tone

“Mister Kaji. I presume that you are my escort to the Geofront, correct?” Johnathan Walker didn't return Kaji's happy tone. His heavy German accent was overwhelmed by the coldness of his speech. He didn't have time to waste and just sitting here chatting wasn't going to get him to Nerv HQ anytime soon.

“Not exactly, but I am to drive you there as the other cars are just decoys. I can tell you're a man who wants to get to the point as soon as possible, so just hop in my car over there and we'll be off.” Kaji wasn't speaking in Japanese, in fact he was speaking in English. It was odd to hear his speech in English, as he still had his Japanese accent.

The two hastily entered the red sportscar and Kaji sped off, breaking a few traffic regulations in the process. Kaji knew little of Professor Walker, and vice versa. However, Johnathan cared little to nothing about Kaji. The same was not true for Kaji. “So Professor Walker, what exactly do you do for Nerv?” Kaji went straight for the heart when he tried to start up a conversation with the man.

“What does that matter to you?” Johnathan's tone was still cold as ever, and his gaze didn't change from staring at the road ahead.

“It doesn't, I'm just trying to pass the time.”

Johnathan was obviously not interested in starting a conversation nor continuing one. “If you must know, I am the chief designer of Evangelion Units 03 and 04. Now if you wouldn't mind, just shut up and just drive.

“Haha. I understand you're not in a mood to converse.”

The rest of the drive was silent, even when the car was entering the Geofront's car elevator. As the car entered the Geofront's artificial “sky,” the first words since Kaji had spoken about an hour earlier came out of Johnathan's mouth. “Marvelous.”

The car was set in its specific spot and the two gentlemen with ponytails exited the Lotus. Kaji and Johnathan both swiped their ID cards and the door into Nerv HQ opened. The two stepped on one of the many conveyor belts that led to different sections of Nerv HQ. As they neared the Evangelion storage cages, Ritsuko Akagi stepped onto the same belt.

In a traditional manner, Johnathan kissed Ritsuko on her cheek. Of course, this startled Ritsuko at first. “It is a tradition in my country. I apologize if it offended you.” Johnathan said in...near perfect Japanese.

“It's fine, Professor Walker. I'm surprised you can speak Japanese so well despite being fluent in both German and English.” Ritsuko was professional, yet friendly to Johnathan. The two were both chief designers for their Nerv Branches, and so they would need to have a strong professional relationship. The two began talking of their Evangelion's designs, which was boring Kaji. At the next intersection, Kaji stepped onto a belt heading to another exit.

“I'll see you two later. Mainly you, Richan.” The brown-haired Nerv agent went through a door before either of the scientists could respond.

“...Well, I guess this next door will be our stop. Am I correct, Doctor Akagi?”

“Yes it is.” Ritsuko's voice was showing embarrassment from Kaji's nickname for her.

The two scientists walked through the large door to the Evangelion cages. As the two took a lift to the upper platforms, they noticed that Unit 00 had just been powered-down. The entry plug exited its slot in the back of the yellowish-orange beast. The First Child slowly and gracefully climbed out of the entry plug. The termination signal plug replaced the standard plug as the First Child stepped onto the platform from the stair system for loading and unloading.

Johnathan paid no attention to her and kept walking towards the last cage. Ritsuko, trying to get on Professor Walker's “good” side, kept up with him. However, she still needed to speak with the First Child later. “Rei, we need to speak so meet me in my office in an hour.”

“Understood.” Like a machine or a doll, her tone was bland and void of all emotions. It fit with her appearance. Her short ice-blue hair was always kept in the same hairstyle, with no changes whatsoever. Those red orbs people call eyes stood out against her pale skin.

Ritsuko and Johnathan reached the rear cage. They passed Unit 01, the violet beast. As they approached Unit 04, they noticed a young man entering the hallway that led to the showers and changing rooms. His silver and red plug suit was still on his body, though anyone could tell that the man was ready to remove the spandex suit from his body. The young man glanced over to the pair of scientists and waved happily as he walked through the door.

“He's been having good results in synchronizing with Unit 04, you know. We should compare the results with the First, Second, and Third Children and their EVAs.” Johnathan took a file from underneath his trenchcoat and handed it to Ritsuko. “That contains documents on all tests on Unit 04.”

Ritsuko opened the manilla folder and quickly skimmed over the overwhelming amount of data, pictures, and statistics. “Astonishing, Professor. For being a newer Evangelion, it is easily surpassing Unit 02's known capabilities.” Ritsuko continued to read the file, but stopped and dropped the entire folder after nearing the end. The papers scattered and the folder lay upside-down, opened.

“I take it you see what Unit 04 is truly using for its power source.” Johnathan's tone was cold and almost made him sound like a true ass.

“How the hell did you get that kind of power source?!” Ritsuko was truly shocked at what she had read. Nerv HQ didn't know about the S2 engine being installed onto Unit 04. In fact, not even Ritsuko knew about the existence of the S2 engine.

The German scientist stopped and turned around to face the Japanese woman. “That is not of your concern. And to answer your next question, my resources and goals are mine and mine alone. Do not dig too far or someone might take the ladder.” Johnathan turned back around and started to walk away from Ritsuko Akagi. “By the way, just because you made the first two Evangelions, doesn't mean someone isn't going to be better. Also, six devils have risen from the Earth, it's time for four gods to descend from the skies.”

Johnathan's last phrase shocked Ritsuko. There have been nine Angels, so that wasn't what he was talking about. Wait, there have been six Evangelion units constructed. Two had been destroyed and one was in storage. But the last part, involving the “gods” were what truly shocked the blonde scientist. Four gods...did this mean that there was going to be four more units made?
