LITTLE MIS LIU HEATS IT UP

Artist: REDALICE - Song: Heian Inferno - Word Count: 691

Pant Doggy, Pant!

It seemed that The Wolf Shinigami was working overtime in order to keep herself in this fight. The exhaustion was setting in, the injuries were piling up and the realization of where this battle was heading was being drilled into her head. Yet, in spite of all these setbacks, it seemed that the daunting Little Wolf still was determined to try and see this through to the very end. Which, in the mind of The Hell Beast, was more than a little amusing! It was enough to make her roar with laughter as she prepared to engage the projectile pup.

After all, every single action that The Shinigami manged to make succeeded with 100% marks across the boards. Why bother tampering with such a perfect score?! Not even the volley of energy spheres would bother coming back upwards to fry Yuki after she sacrificed so much just for a game.

Some could see this as underestimating your opponent, others could see it as being lazy and some might even view it as being super cocky; but in the mind of Liu -- this was just a gesture of respect and admiration for her foe putting so much into trying to reach her. After managing to make it this far in the game, it would be such a shame to just disrespect her opponent and just so lazily dispose of them, eh?

So, instead of going on the defensive or offensive, our Hell Demon decided to go forward with an offensive plan to meet this target face to face. As, there was a sentiment burning within herself that screamed: "If she was going to potentially conclude things, Liu felt it would be best if she got off her lazy behind and actually do something!!!" Therefore, The Underworld Ruler took a soft breath, focused her demonic energy into her right fist and locked her eyes solely on the air-bound pup.

[TECHNIQUES BEING USED ARE IN EACH OF THE SEPARATE SPOILERS]

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

The flow of the universe around her slowed, the perception of time became enhanced and Liu had a fixation on the trajectory which would ultimately bring Yuki hurdling towards her. In preparation for this, The Hell Demon spread each of her feet out, raised her right fist in the air and punched the empty space ahead herself in order to send an eruption pressure hurdling towards The Little Wolf. Given the fact that her canine senses would play a factor into the consideration of future events; she'd probably pick up on the awful sound and force of wind heading her way.

This single punch yielded enough destructive power behind it to crush the remaining bones in The Shinigami's body. Should she find herself on the wrong end of this attack, it would be akin to being slammed straight into an on-coming train and the barbaric strength of her demonic lineage was going to more than rear it's ugly head i n this instance. Thus, given the amount of power being put into this technique, it was more than likely that Yuki would be repelled and sent hurdling back into the oceanic waters. That is what Liu was banking on, at least.

It was up to The Shinigami to determine how she could cope with an attack and The Hell Demon was interested to see how she'd fair at this point in the game. If there was a way for her to endure this assault? Then The Hell Demon wouldn't move from her spot. However, if she lost it out here? Then perhaps Liu would call it match and seek to conclude their little tit for tat play session and give her the mystery prize.

Oh. Right. She forgot to mention that there was going to be a bonus reward given for the round of dodge-ball The Wolf just played. Eh, it could wait for later, right? She was more interested in seeing the results of her current round before tallying up the final score.

ENTER THE DEPTHS

Artist: Pendulum - Song: Crush - Word Count: 988

It seems that I have underestimated her. Wait, no, not that. More like I forgot that we were still in a fight. Sort of. Well, this isn’t good regardless.

Thanks to the wolf’s enhanced senses she was able to detect the changes within the air in front of herself, although it was very faint. More than that, the woman was focusing upon her and building up energy, which couldn’t mean anything good. Her stance shifted into one that was more balanced, one braced for an impact. She lifted her right fist and then, despite not even being close yet to the Shinigami, she punched in her direction. Pressure filled the air, followed immediately by what sounded almost like an explosion, or perhaps some sort of sonic boom. Given the woman’s strength and Yuki’s current position within the air it was safe to say that this one attack would end the fight.

Unless I can avoid it. I didn’t want to use it this early, but it is either that or give up on this fight. Here goes nothing.

In a flash her left arm was forced forwards, popping it back into its socket. Her hand moved over to her face, fingers slipping beneath the black fabrics that covered her left eye. With a firm grip she tore it away, revealing the golden eye hidden beneath. A brilliant golden flame erupted outwards from it, flickering wildly within the air as it was activated. Spiritual energy poured outwards from the device, flooding her body with much needed reserves, especially considering what she was about to do.

Don’t lose yourself. Just enough to hit her.

Her right hand had shifted across her body, gripping upon the handle of her sheathed Zanpakutō. Drawn upwards, Yuki made certain not to fully remove it, leaving the very tip resting within the entrance so as not to completely break the rules. More than that, drawing it fully was not necessary, as it now crossed over the front of her body and face. If the Demon was so focused on her then this would be all that was needed.

“Howl, Kuchiku!”

A blinding red flash of light instantly erupted from the obsidian blade as the power of her shikai was unleashed. Within a split second her weapon had changed. Most differences were slight, such as the pure black tsuba and the ito, but perhaps the biggest change was the blade itself which now took on glowing red veins and whose back was no longer a smooth curve, instead now slightly blocky in its form. A clearly visible aura now covered the wolf’s body, darkening the region surrounding her with black flickering flames occasionally tinged briefly with hints of red. The only change to Yuki herself was her pupils, now contracting to something more closely resembling thin slits.

Energy coursed through her body, revitalizing her muscles while filling them with adrenaline. Any tired feelings that she might have had before were gone, at least for the moment. Bruises started to gradually disappear, as did smaller cuts. Wounds that were only held together before were now starting to heal. But this energy did more than repair her body; it made her much, much heavier, covering her in a dense protective flame. A portion of this flame extended beneath her right foot, condensing further until it became a platform.

Yuki’s foot touched down upon the platform of condensed energy, pushing her body into another leap, again aided by a flash step, in an attempt to move above the attack sent her way. However as she leaped upwards she also twisted her body around, flipping and spinning to reposition herself. As she passed over the Demon she remained upside down as another platform of condensed energy was created above her. The Shinigami’s feet slammed into the platform at such a high speed that more fractures were created within both feet, but these were immediately held together by the healing energy which flooded her body, and in a few moments they too would be on the path to recovery. Her body was forced into a crouch, condensing like a coiled spring before she kicked off yet again, rocketing straight down towards the Demon from above. If all went well then the sudden blinding flash from her Shikai might buy her a second or two, but then this woman was also incredibly strong, so it was possible that it had no effect whatsoever.

The young pup’s right hand gripped tightly upon the handle of her Zanpakutō, shaking as she forced it back into it’s sheathe and resisted drawing it. Now she fought a battle on two fronts: one with the Demon within and one with the Demon she faced. But all she had to do was keep her weapon sheathed. Neither of her hands would be used for attack. Instead her entire body acted like a torpedo as she intended on slamming her head right into the upper-back portion of her opponent’s head. If that didn’t do the trick, and the woman managed to shift out of the way, then her flailing tail, now dense and spiked like a mace, might have some chance, however it was uncontrolled and moving about wildly behind her, thrashing angrily at the air, so missing was entirely possible.

Regardless of the outcome this would be her last move. If she hit, then the impact would be great enough to possibly send her into unconsciousness, and while she might win their little game she would surely lose the match. That is, of course, unless she also knocked the woman out, but that was implausible due to their sheer difference in power. If she missed then she would leave herself open to a counter attack. Worse still, this form would take too much energy, and she would not be able to hold it for very long. All that mattered now was how well she came out of it.

LITTLE MIS LIU HEATS IT UP

Artist: N/A - Song: DEATHMARCH OF JIANGSHI'S PARADISEJACK - Word Count: 628

Pressure, pressure, pressure. In more than one way was there pressure being placed on The Pup as she engaged in this devilish game of What Time Is It Mr.Wolf?. Liu could feel the injuries catching up to the shinigami and she was bound to be placed on the breaking point. So, in her state of lucid thinking, it wasn't too far out of her assumption to believe that a release form was on the horizon. After all, the energy that she emitted before The Hell Demon added in her boosts HAD BEEN comparable enough to BE a Vice Captain by her standards. Hence, it was safe to believe she had SOME ace in the hole.

Therefore, the mischievous demon would not move from her spot and had intended to allow The Wolf to do as she pleased. All that she could do was anticipate the transformation as the lights, sights and looks of their arena became overflowed in the illumination of Yuki's evolution into her ascended state of being. When that moment came, a cluster of dense energy could be felt coming from the body of Liu as a scarlet glow began to overflow and erupt from her inner essence.

This was her Devil Chi coming to the surface and it was about time to start using some of it as she had been placed into a compromised enough position to warrant it's usage. With her senses attuned to the world around her, Liu yet again took a soft sigh and harmonized the timing of Yuki's movements with her own in order to ensure this next attack would deflect and press away the pup.

As soon as The Shinigami started to emerge over the horizon behind Liu, The Hell Demon unleashed a dense wave of energy in order to have it act as a wall behind her and Yuki. This could have the effect of feeling like she slammed straight against a freight train if it were to collide into her playmate. However, she would be given some warning as a wave of blood red light started to expand from Liu's body and it sought to slam into The Shinigami. This would be her simplistic ace in the hole, but it was one which required a calm mind and centered focus.

Even though the winds of combat were a wild one, Liu envisioned herself unmoved by the myriad of distractions around her. All that mattered was riding the current of chaos around her and assuring that it drove her to victory. The only question that remained in her mind was this: did The Wolf have anything to counter this? She essentially threw herself at The Hell Demon, so there were many vulnerabilities to abuse and take care of. That left only two conclusions: either she had chaotic bravery, or this was a last ditch effort to try and claim victory.

In her heart of hearts -- Liu understood that it was latter. However, that did not detract from her respect which she possessed for The Shinigami. It took a fair amount of courage, determination and power in order to engage in a tournament like this. There were many kinds of otherworldly freaks in this event and Liu was merely preparing her for less playful opponents such as herself. If nothing else, The Hell Demon would see to it that she would gain something from this battle when the final score was produced by her loving mind.

As, above all else, Liu was not just going to leave her new friend to the dogs. That much Yuki could bank on.

ENTER THE DEPTHS

Artist: Pendulum - Song: Crush - Word Count: 576

Unfortunately Yuki’s focus was split now between the fighting and her inner demon, which she struggled to keep a hold upon. Only faintly did she notice the sudden burst of pressure, the release of dense spiritual energy between her and her opponent. The plan of attack she’d had in mind had ultimately failed, but then it was almost a little too expected as well. Of course she would unleash her Shikai, and of course she would strike from behind. Liu’s attack had eliminated her usual route for attack, that is directly from the front, and if her blinding flash of light had worked then striking at the woman’s back would have been the most beneficial plan of attack.

Despite the increased power Yuki was still no match for her opponent, at least not when she was being serious anyways. A wave or rather a wall of scarlet exploded outwards, and before the young pup could even reach her target she slammed head first into this dense energy. It was almost comical how she bounced off it, flung right out of the ring that Liu had created, her form instantly reverting back to her normal self as she crashed into the water below.

It was only thanks to her Shikai’s protective aura that she was saved from unconsciousness; however that isn’t to say that she got off scot free. Blood soaked into her hair where she’d impacted, a cloud of red lifting from the top of her head within the crystal clear water surrounding her. Everything was ringing and her vision was completely messed up, everything spinning and shifting around as if she were caught within an earthquake. Thankfully she was surrounded by the water which offered a peaceful blanket of chilled wetness, drowning out all other sounds so that she could focus on returning to her normal self.

That one actually hurt. A lot. Well, I’ve lost. There is no shame in admitting it. At least we had a lot of fun! Or, well, I had fun. I can only hope that she did too.

Slowly Yuki pulled herself up, swimming to the surface where she took in a sharp inhale of air. As soon as her vision returned to normal the young Shinigami dragged herself out and up to her feet, stumbling slightly while she regained her balance. Eventually the ringing in her ears left her, and now she simply tried to catch her breath. The hand that had gripped her eyepatch shifted up with her right, the two working together to secure the cloth back onto her face.

“You win” she called out calmly, her tail finally having settled down behind her. She hated to admit such a thing, especially since it meant an end to their amusement, but there was no way for her to continue. The brief moments in which she’d activated her Shikai were not enough to completely heal her wounds, and her body now suffered greatly because of it. In fact she was barely standing up at all, legs and arms shaking as pain rippled through them, although thankfully that was something she dealt with quite easily. Still, her body was sufficiently damaged and exhausted to the point that continuing was not going to be possible.

What happens now? Will I ever see her again? This was really fun. She was really fun. Would it be terrible if we met again outside of this arena? I’d like to think not.

LITTLE MIS LIU HEATS IT UP

Artist: まりつみ - Song: Inversion - Word Count: 901

Breathe in, breathe out. The waves of Liu's calming breathing came to a close once she felt that oh-so-dramatic "thud" hit against the wall of dense devil chi which emitted and poured out of her own body. With that crushing sound signifying the end of this little game of there, The Hell Demon found herself in a more somber state of mind as it seemed that things had to come to a close. While it was a blast, nothing like this could last forever. For everything in the universe there had to be a beginning, middle and end. And, for their battle, that finale had came to an end.

However, it was all a good show to Liu. In fact, Yuki had even passed most of her tests. The reason being is because she displayed a sharp-witted mind, a nimble body and possessed the needed tenacity to handle herself quite well in the midst of battle. With enough polishing, refining and investment; there was n o doubt that her new friend could give some of the challengers in this tournament a run for her money once she got smarter, stronger and better focused.

Therefore, as The Wolf Pup struggled to maintain her consciousness, The Hell Demon gave a congratulatory clap for the Shinigami for managing to last this long. This applause was not sarcastic or patronizing in the least; as Liu was genuinely surprised she still was able to retain her sense of self even after everything which was flung her way. A truly worthy playmate! So, because of this feat, The Little Ruler Of The Underworld made her way over to The Wee Wolf and decided to give her a little parting gift.

"I don't believe you lost for a second. You've won because you allowed yourself to be open to the universe and let your body mend with the waves of danger. I'm certain if you learn to align yourself and be tranquil, you'll give everyone here something to worry themselves over. So, here, let me give you this gift to help you further along the way."

[ABILITY USED]

Spoiler:

With but a tap of Liu's finger, the gingerly sounding Hell Demon would press her right index finger against Yuki's head and unleash her Liberation Flux ability. After having her power resonate within The Wolf Girl for so long, the demonic energies of Liu's influence had attuned themselves to the way Yuki's body worked. Therefore, it wasn't out of the question for The Hell Demon to begin removing the l imitations and restraints of her spiritual body. In this way, she would tap further into the well of potential within The Shinigami's inner world and begin to increase the potency of her spiritual energy. Which, in turn, would make her strong enough to be akin to a 2-1+.

Additionally, this move was done so that she may further have a boost enabled for the duration of this tournament. Since Liu's ability primarily focused around liberating elements, constructs and spirits which it possesses; the body of Yuki would see immense gains in strength, speed and durability throughout the duration of the day. This was done so that she could have a fair chance to reach the summit of power and might that so many of these other monsters stand upon. As this was Liu's gift to her for having the nerve to fight against a demon such as herself.

"I'm going to forfeit this match. There isn't much of a need for me to grow here. Your spirit, however, has a great power waiting to be liberated from the chains of it's limitations. So, as your friend, I wish to see that freed. Take my gift and run with it however which way you wish to use or abuse it."

Then, with a snap of her fingers, there would be a blood red seal made in the palm of Yuki's right hand. After a few moments, this seal would lose it's color and blend into the skin of The Little Wolf. Just what did Liu do? Simple: she infused a contact card of sorts within The Shinigami. All she needed to do was tap that palm of her hands, envision Liu's energy and body image and she would be connected telepathically to the demon. From there, she could seek to request an invitation to The Underworld and be granted a teleporation pass into the 2nd layer of Hell to visit this Rakshasa's home.

"You should rest up. Whenever you have time free after this tournament, you should pay me a visit in Hell. You've earned that much. See-ya."

And with that, The Hell Demon would nonchalantly dismiss her opponent and throw away the battle. After all, this would only put the pressure further on Liu and press her to want to try even harder against her next opponents. While, at the same time, she saw that she was liberating the path of weakness from a new friend and felt content with this ending. So, she would make herself scarce and simply exit the stage by walking through a vortex of white light and exiting the arena.

ENTER THE DEPTHS

Artist: Pendulum - Song: Crush - Word Count: 438

Clapping filled the otherwise silent arena, and for a brief moment Yuki had troubles figuring out where exactly it was coming from as she continued to recover from the impact that she’d just experienced. Confusion set in when she finally did notice that it was Liu’s doing.

I’ve won? No, I lost. What is she saying? What gift?

Eventually her senses completely returned to her and Yuki’s crimson eye lifted to catch her competitor’s gaze. A finger tapped against her forehead and then suddenly something clicked. Energy surged throughout every part of her body. Something deep within her was uncaged, limitations removed and restraints loosened. Deeper reserves of spiritual energy had been unlocked, and now she felt it flowing freely throughout her body, instantly removing any exhaustion that she might have felt before. She didn’t understand what had exactly been done, but she knew one thing: she liked it.

What is this? I feel stronger. I mean, I feel more energy. Did I always have this much? How could I not tap into this before?

The shaking within her legs stopped. She felt refreshed, as though she’d just had an hour of deep sleep! Her crimson eye blinked a few times, mostly out of confusion, but Liu soon helped to put that confusion to rest. Sort of.

She shouldn’t forfeit! She deserves the win! She beat me fair and square. But I suppose I can somewhat understand her reasoning. Still, it doesn’t feel quite right. Wait, did she say friend? Are we friends now?! Yes! I made another friend! A fun friend!

Despite the pain, which didn’t actually bother her all too much, Yuki lowered her body into a respectful bow. Her ears now stood up straight and her tail thrashed with reckless abandon behind her, excited at the prospect of this new and quite unexpected friendship! Something appeared upon her hand, and for a moment she grew worried. Ultimately however she decided to trust this woman. They were, after all, friends!

“I shall. Thank you” she responded calmly despite her true feelings, and as Liu left the arena Yuki felt her body suddenly surging with yet another burst of energy, this one a gift from the tournament’s founder. In seconds her wounds were healed and her muscles completely refreshed. That untapped source of energy released by Liu had remained, piled now on top of whatever well of energy she had before this fight had started. Confidence soared within the petite Shinigami. Maybe, just maybe, she had a chance at winning this thing.

I’ll do my best. If not for Greece then, at the very least, for her.
