Chronicle Zero | Equipment - Chapter One: L.A.S.T. (Open) - Page 2 Empty Re: Chronicle Zero | Equipment - Chapter One: L.A.S.T. (Open)

The Minerva clone, disguised as the schoolgirl, entered the library and walked around pretending to be looking through the selection of books in the aisles. Being a student made it easy to look around in general. She gradually got closer until she found the small animal sitting at a computer ten meters away. It was quite apparent that Nina knew what she was doing and was downloading as much information as possible by the looks of it. Just as she thought, Nina was useful and Minerva wasn't necessary after all. This was no surprise. Having intelligent familiars wasn’t exactly uncommon.

The clone walked closer to her, but a male teenager got in her way.

“Hey aren't you Miso, one of the freshman?” he asked curiously.

It looked liked she was recognized and this boy must be from her school. Just her luck.

“So... I was wondering if we can get something to eat...” he continued.

How adorable, she thought to herself, but this wasn't the time to be distracted by some nuisance.

“I'm not interested.” The clone said brushing off his advances and began to walk past him.

“Wait hold on...” he said putting his arm on her shoulder. Without turning around, she sent a loud, high pitched, deafening sound toward him, pinpointing only his ears. In an instant he tried to cover his ears and bent over in pain. “What is that?...” he said trying to comprehend this sudden outburst of pain. The intense sound was so powerful that he became dizzy and nauseous causing him a to run to the bathroom. With that out of the way she continued spying on Nina.

The clone came behind Nina and looked over her shoulder.

“Hey, what are you doing?” the clone asked, pretending not to know who Nina was. The clone wanted to see if Nina could see through her shapeshift or at least lie about it. The clone reached for the goggles on Nina's head so she could see.

This was just getting frustrating now. How was Selia supposed to figure this out if it kept asking for so many things to work? Like a password... Typing pass into it or abra cadabra definitely didn't work, so what was it really asking? The shinigami's rather minuscule intelligence really did shine here, in the fact that this device was giving her a headache. Every moment spent toying with the device led to her frustration growing, annoyance to the device rising. Soon enough, she gave up, sliding against the wall of a building until she was sitting down on the ground, knees held to her chest as she peeked over them to stare at the wristband once more. What was she supposed to do...? Oh!

She could just call for help, why some of her friends told her to call them if she was ever in trouble and needed help! Though they might have meant a different kind of help, but it was all the same to the shinigami. Now came the issue of the fact that she didn't even have a phone, so she'd have to find a place where she could borrow one. Eyes scanned the area rather quickly, head perking up just until she saw a sign next to her. LIBRARY. Perfect! Someone in there should have a device that she could borrow extra quickly to call a friend of hers, well... Not really a friend but more-so a co-worker she met briefly during one of her baking sprees. They still were really nice, even though they switched pronouns every other day.

Selia found herself already standing up and waltzing straight through the Library doors, the large, draconian tail of hers waving behind her slowly as she entered the area, eyes widening in amazement. So many books! She's never... Really been in a library before. She was at a mall once, but other than that, her experiences outside of the Vanguard and Academy was rather limited. Each step was slow and careful as everyone in here seemed to be relatively silent. This irked her... Silence was never a good thing for the girl, as she always related it to serious situations and mourning, something that... Well... Happened fairly often within the Vanguard due to the recent war it had been thrust into.

Selia slowly stepped right up to someone she saw behind a desk, a librarian. Selia rather casually leaned against the desk, arms crossing over as the hand adorning the wristband was hanging off the side of the desk, silver sheen easily seen by anyone who was looking for it or even recognized the device. "Excuse me, miss lady librarian, I need to call someone super important but I don't have a phone. Is it okay if I borrowed yours for a super quick minute? I'll stand right here so you know I won't take it! It's important!" Despite her earlier caution within the area due to it being so quiet, her words could easily be heard by generally anyone nearby.

Nina was focused on her current work, but not too focused to miss the supposed high school girl that came behind her. She didn't need to turn to feel the familiar presence of Minerva, having sensed her particular energy source once she approached within three meters of her. She wasn't going to hide her knowledge that she knew it was her, quickly grabbing for the pair of goggles to strap it back to her face after Minerva attempted to remove it from her face. "I'm working, and you know that..." she seethed lowly, trying to make sure that nobody else heard her within the room. She wasn't trying to make scene, but she did want to make it clear that she was in no mood to play games. The vixen refrained from saying her name however, already taking into account that their might have been some form of surveillance around and that since she wasn't portraying as herself, she made a note that it would be quite peculiar to mention such an out of place name here.

Before she could say anything else to the woman however, the low chiming of the goggles on the vixen's face would take her attention away from her supposed companion and towards the entrance of the library, where the librarian was attending to a girl at the reception desk. This is where things seemed to become problematic, as she watched the librarian hand the girl a phone as she had requested, her eyes would quickly fall onto the silver and sapphire colored wristband that was on her wrist. This was the cause of the chiming and it was the reason a sudden barge of text would appear on one of the lenses, reading that another Prentium alloy chip was found in the nearby area, but it was unregistered with the rest of the online HUD system. There it was, the wristband! She had to get it, but how? They were stuck in the library where there were several means of getting caught easily if she were to cause any commotion.

Nina's first action was to alert Lex that it was indeed in this city and that she had set her eyes upon it; she could figure out what to do next after that. 'Master, we've found it, the wristband is currently in the possession of what seems to be a dragon related woman. We are all currently in the library; I'll send you a pic of her and the wristband right now.' she telepathically said to Lex, pressing something on the pair of goggles to make it suddenly take snapshots of the girl and her current positioning that she was in. In only a matter of seconds, she would get a response while she stared at the girl. 'Good work Nina, that's certainly it, keep your eye on her at all costs until I get there, if you can't snatch the wristband without making a clean getaway, do not bother attempting to retrieve it. I will compensate the girl the best I can in order to get it peacefully. It's going to take me some time though, so please trail her as long as necessary until I'm able to return.' the young man responded to her. For now, she was just going to watch in silence and try to keep her distance, finally finished with taking information off of the computer and quickly taking the USB device out of the back of the monitor.

Based on her snippy remark, it was apparent that Nina knew it was her or at least could sense the aura that the clone emitted that made her recognize that she was Minerva. When she tried to pick up the goggles, Nina prevented her.

“Aw...I want to see...” Minerva begged like a child. She wanted to continue with her girly antics before she saw Nina abruptly stop and look back toward the entrance with a serious expression. Minerva looked in that direction also in order to see what was so important. It looked like she was looking a a girl in blue and white using a phone.

In any case, it looked like Nina didn't want to be bothered so Minerva turned around and walked back to a nearby bookshelf and pretended to read a book. In her boredom, she did pick a few books to see what was actually in them, Advanced trigonometry, quantum physics, Mastering chemistry...all so boring, all she had mastered when she was a teenager. In fact she corrected a few mistakes and errors in a couple of books that she came across. She saw an older gentlemen in a worn dress shirt and pants with a dark blue blazer at a table a few aisles away who walked away to get a book. Minerva walked over to the table to see that he was working on a few math proofs. Based on the other materials it was clear that he was a university professor. Some of problems were the most difficult mathematical proofs she had ever seen...well difficult for normal humans anyway.

She sat down and picked up a pencil for each hand and began to work on the first proof at the top. After forty seconds and four pages of work, she was done. She smiled as she was satisfied and left the table back to go back to the book shelf. At the angle she stood, she could watch both Nina and the unknown girl in her peripheral vision.

The older man soon returned back to table and was shocked at what he saw. He was not shocked because someone had touched his work, but because, if what he saw was true, someone had solved a theorem that would have taken years of work to solve. He frantically shuffled through the four pages and carefully read and it. The work wasn’t some prank, some scribble of numbers by some troublesome kid, but actual equations to solve the problem. He turned his head every which way in a desperate and futile attempt to identify who had touched his work. He began to call on his cellphone.

“You can't believe what happened! I got to show you this....someone solved the odd order theorem...I don't know...I...I'm coming now, don't go anywhere!” he said gathering his papers and folders and header out the library exit. Minerva couldn't help but giggle under her breath.

The phone was very happily and rather quickly received on Selia's end, a quick and happy thank you given towards the librarian as the draconian's tail seemed rather excited, wagging slowly from side to side, dragging along the ground as she sat down right on the ground, legs crossing over one another as a friend's number with dialed. It was Ash's number. An iramasha that she had met before and honestly wished that she could see more, but since she was Azure's son... Daughter... It thingy, Selia didn't get much time to speak with them or even to hang out. The number was dialed and soon, Selia began to speak. "Hi Ash! So uhm, I found this really weird wr- Huh? What do you mean you don't wanna talk? You said you'd talk to me if I ever called, right? Ash... Ash what's wrong? Why won't you speak to me?" Selia voice actually began to get a bit lower and less enthusiastic... Anyone with good hearing would be able to tell that this Ash person on the phone was not alright, the sounds of a childish voice sobbing rather loudly into the receiver.

It was obvious they were pained, but Selia just didn't seem to understand that. "Hey, Ash... Please talk to me, what's wrong? Why are you crying- What do you mean you can hear her? Hear who Ash? Where are you?... Why are you there? Ash you're scaring me..." The shinigami was getting.. Considerably uncomfortable. Someone she always knew as a person that smiled or giggled was breaking down over the phone, repeating over and over that it hurt. That they could hear her. That there was a note... That they're a horrible being and they would be better off dead and thrown into a ditch for the crows to pick at for a meal. All of it was scaring Selia and soon... She simply hung up the phone and gave it back to the librarian.

What was once a rather joyful being seemed sad. She wanted to talk to a friend, but there wasn't one present. She wanted help, but she couldn't get any. She wanted to make her friend feel better but... She wasn't ever allowed into the Medical Wing of the Vanguard. It wasn't very often when Selia felt lonely and rather useless but... It did hit her hard. She may have been old spiritually... But she died a small child, and her mind has never moved on from that point, leading to childish emotions taking a hold of her being. Slowly, Selia began to step away from the desk, ignoring the concerns of the librarian as she stepped further within the library. She didn't really feel like speaking now, or even interacting with anyone.

The childish mind soon found a corner of the library away from others within... And after a few moments, she found herself sitting down in that corner, knees brought tightly to her own chest as the tail that once showed excitement wrapped around her form. She remembers sitting like this back at the Academy... Back when she was alone and no one knew her yet. Arms wrapped around her legs to hug them as her eyes seemed a bit more dull than usual, simply staring down towards the ground, not even caring about her new device... Hayden's been busy lately ever since he was in that war with Ash... And... She thought Ash was okay, but... All of her friends had ended up leaving her again, and she couldn't control it. She couldn't even help Ash at all, the being even seemed to not want to talk to her at all. So what could Selia even do? All she could do was fall into a rather sour mood due to her lack of mental development...

She didn't have to hear what the girl was saying, her expression and change of mood allowing Nina to figure out that something was terribly wrong. What could it have been? Could the girl have heard some bad news? The small vixen wasn't really sure what was going on, but as she watched the dragon human female slump into a corner and wrapped herself into a state of despair. Something was amiss, and despite the fact that she clearly had her master's wristband, she was prompted to figure out if she could help the girl and her situation first. After all, they did plan on taking the device away from her, so she wanted to make sure that she was at least in a happier mood when that happened. The sentient creature couldn't do it on her own though, glancing back at the shape-shifted girl Minerva and talk to her telepathically to her. 'Minerva, do you mind helping me assist this girl? You seem to be more well versed in diplomatic negotiations, let's find out what she's dealing with and try to help her. We'll need her to be in a good mood before taking our scouter back, maybe this is how we can do it peacefully.' she spoke mentally to the strong magical woman.

She figured Minerva was indeed capable of turning this situation around, more so than she would be since the girl would be too focused on the fact that she was a talking animal. She didn't need to shock her, that's for sure, she just needed to get her attention and then carefully find out what the dilemma was. If Minerva agreed to help her with this task, Nina would nod before waiting for her to approach the girl first before slowly following beside her, making sure to seem like they weren't trying to corner her to alarm the girl. If Minerva didn't want to help, Nina would have to come up with a different strategy, which was to act like a feral but cutesy animal to get her attention, try to cheer her up just by being what she naturally was before trying to sneak off with the wristband when she least expected. She didn't condone the second idea, but it was the only thing she could come up with since she was sure that the girl wasn't going to lounge around long enough for Lex to show up in time before she left.

As the clone of Minerva, disguised as a schoolgirl, continue to idly past the time at the bookshelf she was interrupted by a telepathic message from Nina. Great, so she has that ability too, Minerva thought to herself. For some reason Nina though that Minerva could be of some help in dealing with the girl they had noticed earlier. According to Nina, she had Lexs' item he was looking for.

“Well now this is interesting, you need my help. You can't do it yourself? Lex thinks you are so useful and you can't accomplish a simple task?” Minerva said back to Nina telepathically. “I am assuming you told him that you found his equipment. Where is he now, isn't he supposed to be finding it?” she said snidely, the clone knowing full well that the real Minerva was following Lex back to the forest. She sighed and close the book she was reading. “I will help, but you or Lex will be owing me a huge favor, you understand?” she said strictly.

the clone strolled over to the mysterious girl and stood over her in a curious manner you would expect from a teenage girl. She reached over with her left hand to pat the girl on her head. At the same time she took a glance at the equipment closely.

“What's the matter? Why are you crying?” the clone asked in a expertly deceivingly genuine way, trying to console the pretty girl.

Had been a little bit distracted when the being began to slowly approach. As the close began to get near and even speak, Selia slowly raised her head up to look at her. Her eyes were indeed watery, but she wasn't sobbing loudly just yet. Arms began to gently squeeze her knees closer to her own chest, wristband further placed on display as she took a deep breath. "I... I-I'm not crying... And a friend... A-A friend's really hurt and she thinks she did a lot of bad things... S-She was saying really bad things about herself and didn't want to talk to me. I feel like I annoyed her and made her feel worse." Despite saying she wasn't crying, her voice sounded close to it. Higher pitched than usually as every few moments led to her sniffling.

The shinigami's eyes focused on the girl in front of her for a few good moments, eyes narrowing a bit before Selia took a deep breath and a few moments to compose herself once again. "A-Anyways... Uhm, I'm Selia! I-It's nice to meet you, what's your name?" A forced smile was given to the person in front of her. Sure, she did feel fairly distraught and terrible, but that didn't mean that she couldn't -try-. She never wanted to turn away the chance at a new friend... Even if she was in one of the more depressing moods that rarely dawned upon her and forced her to physically retreat from many things.

Nina remained silent as she heard the woman question that she couldn't do a simple task. She was no shapeshifter and she knew most humans were most likely not going to take an animal seriously, talking or not. This was her natural dilemma when dealing with people besides those who knew of the extent of knowledge that animals could possess. For now, Minerva didn't seem to be one of those people, and as much as she didn't think the woman was exactly necessary, she didn't find it wise to question her master if he claimed that Minerva was a part of their group. Despite her immediate silence, the woman's second inquiry would get an answer from her. "Yes, I have alerted Master that we have found it. As for his whereabouts, I have no clue, but I trust he's doing an important task, so we will see him when he gets here." she exclaimed in her telepathic manner again, thinking this to be the truth. Upon saying that her or Lex owed her a favor for this 'assistance,' Nina did not respond again. This was far too important to take care of, the right way, so she figured arguing with her was no use. She just didn't agree to such terms and didn't plan on it, she could take the wristband by force if she wanted to, but found it cruel and uncaring, clearly as the girl was not in a state of being able to handle such things happening to her.

For now, she was just going to have to watch Minerva work her charm she supposed and see how she worked. And in only a moment she would get to see, the disguised teenage student making her way to the upset girl before asking her what was wrong. Nina simply watched the interaction between them both, slowly making her way behind the closest bookshelf before sliding the books on the lowest shelf to the side by just a few inches, giving herself enough room to look through them and watch the conversation that was going on. To keep herself from looking too suspicious, as if being a sentient little woodland creature wasn't suspicious enough, she would take one of the books off of the shelf and make it seem as if she was reading it right then and there. She kept her focus on the two girls on the other side however, but would periodically glance around to see if anyone else was around or any new people had walked into the library. After all, she couldn't be too careful.

Minerva listened closely to what the melancholy girl had to say, trying to find the context in the story she was told and why this girl was acting the way she was. The girl strained to explain the solution. However, just as Minerva was beginning to understand, Selia switched to a more composed demeanor trying her best to introduce herself, remembering proper decorum.

Minerva didn't actually have a name for her current shapeshifted form, but without missing a beat she responded smoothly.

“Hello there, I am Tomoyo." she said as she gently patted her beautiful, silky hair. "Is there anything I can do? Oh... I know..." Tomoyo brandished a chocolate bar and handed it to Selia. “Here, you can have this.” she said with a warm smile, trying to cheer her up and sat down next to her on right, their arms and shoulder touching.

She glanced slightly to see if Nina was watching. She looked over and noticed the wristband. She wondered what kind of response she would get. Did it really belong to Lex? If so, what was this girl doing with it?

“If I may ask, what is that?” Tomoyo asked, pointing to the wristband.
