Zero liked festivals. She also liked fairs, the circus, theme parks, and above all else carnivals. With various activities, food, and people available to the general public, there were plenty of reasons for why people would folk to such places. So, it was no surprise that the brunette was present at the winter festival being hosted within Karakura Central, on the outskirts of the Imaginary District to be specific. She had arrived via her favourite method of travelling, the wind, donned in a black kimono. She could’ve went casual, of course, but she hardly ever had a reason to wear something so traditional and the festival just happened to be a good excuse though she sincerely didn’t need one. So, for one day she would forgo her school uniform and red scarf for the kimono, though she was missing the red piece of fabric already. She really liked her scarf, hardly ever removed it, and though she wish she had worn it today with the many activities the festival boasted, she would live.

After smoothing out any creases that may have appeared thanks to her method of travel, Zero headed straight for one of the vendors. She was on her own for the most part, her brothers dealing with after-school activities and her parents at work though they promised to meet her later on. She couldn’t convince Fenrir, her combat teacher, to tag along since he avoided large crowds like the plague and with the sheer amount of people coming every nook and cranny was going to have no less than five people or so he told her. She believed that to be just a bunch of nonsense he whipped up in order to avoid going with her, but she didn’t bother arguing with him - she did whine about what a party pooper he was though.

So, she was looking for someone to entertain her for the rest of the day or until her family showed up. Sure, she could entertain herself by playing every single game available, admire some trinkets, and consuming three times her body weight in food, but she would grow bored doing that - she knew that from experience. So, as she consumed the caramel cheesecake apple she had just purchased, she kept an eye out for a random person to be her victim.

Zero's Kimono

Winter Fun In The Park [Karakura Central Winter/Fall Festival Event] Empty Re: Winter Fun In The Park [Karakura Central Winter/Fall Festival Event]

Artist: Maiko Iuchi - Song: Depp Blood - Word Count: 723

Fireworks, crowds, cold, snow and festive joy; the holidays were coming in strong for this celebration of winter and peace. One could feel the positive vibes churning all about the landscape in every single direction. However, even among all this arctic thrill, there was still a frigid soul roaming among the hordes of jovial folks.

With the tapping of a cane echoing in the distance none too far from the schoolgirl, the owner and starter of this five year tradition slithered his way through the circles of endless people and made his way to a place to relax and bask in the sights. Hair as white as sleet, eyes as red as blood, skin as pale as an albino's and figure as slender as an anorexics waistline; this individual was peculiar in appearance indeed.

While all others seemed adorned in their best outfits, this guy couldn't be bothered to change into anything formal. White fur trimmed jacket, black shirt with vertical grey stripes, ashen jeans and smoke hued shoes were all he needed to bother with. In the exhaling of a cold sigh, the male leaned in on his mechanical cane and came to a pass he observed the crowds around for anything suspicious.

Almost everyone within range had been processed, scanned and deduced as a non-threat and legal citizen of Karakura Central. A few low hums echoed from the male during these short seconds of analytical might, but it was enough to mark this area as safe. Connected to the mother of all defenses within the city, this lone figure yielded immense examination skills through his augmented mind. And as such, he worked alongside a hive network of computers and machines; giving them commands and orders from his own mind in order to sort through and give all the clear on this region.

While this mechanical procedure took place, the ghost skinned male gave gradual taps to a black collar with electrodes extending into the back of his skull. Through this simple body gesture, one could potentially infer the male was on edge. And, given the world climate, rightfully so. Being considered among some to be the Leader of Japan, this person couldn't just sit around and take it easy when the world was two steps away from all out warfare.

It's why this festival was assorted to begin with: to serve as a distraction and relaxation method for the general population not to become too concerned with the events taking place outside of their walls. Sure, Karakura Central had the potential to withstand all out supernatural warfare, but general panic was not what one of this city's founders desired for people to live under.

It was suppose to be designed to be a place of security, shelter and peace from the terrors of the world. A world gone mad, destructive and outright frenzy with strife and conflict. While there are dark secrets that brew within the heart of this metropolis, they paled in comparison to the potential lurking outside its doors.

Hence -- why The Beast of Karakura stood ever prevalent and on the prowl for anything astray. Although, he was missing something from his own internal monologue of tensity and observation. The ingenuity of his mind was nearly second to none, but he seemed to miss one key clue: a simple girl in a kimono. For some reason, the brunette adolescent had been overlooked and not scanned for authentication. Perhaps it was his own mind being unnerved with stress, but it genuinely surprised him. And, for no reason than his own curiosity, did he then approach the girl and tap her on the shoulder from behind.

"Kid, you look a little lost. Just where you do belong?"

After uttering those gruff words out from the highschoolers backside, the male walked pass her side and emerged before the front of Zero with a doubtful and suspicious grimace cast over his face. Given the fact that Toki's body language inferred she was studying and over viewing the crowd through her constant eye movements, the male couldn't help but wonder if she was some sort of terrorist or spy. So, with another stare into her eyes, he'd utter these words:

"And why are you here?"

Zero was one lucky gal on this particular afternoon. It just wasn’t everyday when a potential playmate approached her, usually she had to find them and force an interaction between them, but it seemed like Lady Luck was smiling down at her. Though why she always sent her people who thought her to be lost was beyond the brunette, but she wouldn’t reject the gift.

Instead, her eyes drifted over to the white-haired man that any normal person would’ve recognized as the protector of Karakura, a smile on her face. He looked like an albino in her most humble opinion and so she mentally decided that he would be Mr. Albino even if he told her his name. She consumed the rest of her apple pretty quickly, wiping the crumbs from her fingers with a napkin before directing her attention to the albino’s question.

“I should be asking ya that question, mister. Ya look mighty suspicious with ya cane.”

She joked, pointing at the object for emphasis as she let out a giggle. It was clear the brunette was amused by the albino’s questions. Personally, Zero didn’t believe herself a suspicious person at all. She was pretty much a generic looking brunette with a signature scarf and an odd way of doing stuff, but that was about it. Maybe he simply asked those questions of her because he needed a reason to talk to her and if so, she’ll entertain him since it was only fair - he would be playing some games with her later on.

“Well, to answer ya questions, mister, I live in the city like most people. Really nice place, ya know, momma and papa like it very much. Can find just about anything there except an endless supply of interesting people like ya self, ya know?”

She interlocked her hands behind her back and tilted her head to the left as she continued to speak in a rather chirpy tone.

“And I’ve come to the festival to eat food, play games, and force my brothers to buy me trinkets. But all my family had something to do right now, so they be coming later on which leaves me all by myself for a good hour or two. So, I’m looking for a playmate and ya fit the bill perfectly, mister.”

She paused for a good second before quickly adding.

“Ya won’t decline a poor teens request for entertainment, well ya mister?”

Geez, all this stress must be getting to my head.

That was the first line of thought that crossed the mind of The Yuudeshi after he took the time to lay down his suspicions and further analyze the girl before him. His brain was a grand thing, but it was still human and made errors of judgement and calculation. Therefore, while most in the environment were scanned to a perfect-T, he skimmed over and forgot to do one simple thing -- face recognition.

Upon doing so, the records of Zero Toketsu came up in small, blue information screens across Shadin's vision. They informed him of her rank, duration of time in the Vangaurd, photo I.D. and essentially confirmed that she was indeed -- safe to be here. So, with a sigh at his mistake, The Yuudeshi would just rest his face right in between that left palm of his before giving a glum shake of the head at this ridiculous situation he was in now.

Eh? What now?

Taking a glance down to his cane, The Yuudeshi found it hard to believe how a cane could make him a thug. So, he gave another shake of his head towards the girl's statement of him being "suspicious" based solely off that object. If anything, it would make him seem like LESS of a threat given the fact -- disabled people aren't usually the most menacing of creatures.

"Oi, brat, I'd take it that you must think those in wheelchairs are the absolute worse society has to offer then, right?"

In a gruff voice, Shadin let loose his sarcastic comeback and gave a hard sigh afterward. As, if she followed her logic to the letter, it would result in the fact that a person full-body cast could be the most terrifying force to ever roam the earth.

Granted, though, he wasn't actually upset with her or anything like that. More so, The Yuudeshi felt irritated with himself for the flaws he made earlier, the sense of tension around Karakura City and the globe and the fact that peace was always this elusive thing ever so far away from his grasp. It was all quite -- annoying.

But, luckily for her, even if Shadin never admitted it, he had a soft spot for highschoolers. If only because they remind him of the happiest periods of unrestricted youth from many centuries gone past. And -- for the fact he had a natural inclination to bond with the opposite sex quite easily.

These two factors were brought about in his childhood given the fact that if not around his brothers, he was constantly surrounded by females at every wake and turn in his life. From his single mother, to classmates at school, training instructors from the Gotei from his mothers connections; at most turns in his life -- it was always a female who took things for the better more often than not.

So, it only became instinctive he'd subconsciously seek them out to search for that familiarity of childhood. After all, it's even why he spoiled his daughters more so than his sons. And perh---

Wait, wait, wait.

Bah.

He was beginning to lose himself in these nonsensical thoughts. What was more important was focusing in on the youth's words to see just why she was here anyway.

...

Entertainment.

Of course.

The mind of a teenager is always seeking the next thrill and sense of excitement. So it makes sense enough to Shadin that she'd want to come here for those reasons. So, with another sigh, his tone would soften; but still possess quite the rigid voice as he uttered these words to her:

"Well, thanks, kid. I try to keep it decent in Karakura."

That part was true. In fact, it made him go back to the suspicious blabber Toki went on about and made The Yuudeshi reconsider that he was indeed -- a skeptical fellow. The reason for this is that he would have quick flash backs of the destruction, blood and research it took to make Karakura Central, and himself, reach this point of power and protection. It wasn't exactly done with the best of methods, but the intentions were pure enough.

But -- now wasn't the time to mull over the abyss of Karakura's Central. No. That could come at another time. The purpose for this little venture was to observe and ensure that the festival went off without a hitch so those whom were under his watch did not fall prey to the shadows. Therefore, he'd stare at the girl for a moment before evaluating her request for him to "tag along" with her.

Eh, if nothing else, they had the connection that neither of their immediate family seemed to be around. Of course he could call upon his clansmen to come, but they were so distant from him in the bloodline that it wouldn't be the same as having his mother, sisters, brothers or children next to him. Therefore, under that flimsy excuse, he'd give a callous shrug and agree to her terms -- begrudgingly, of course.

"Tch. Sure, why not."

Quick, bothered and to the point; The Yuudeshi was now one of her party members and ready to indulge in the festivities to be had in this carnival of winter wonder.

Though, before they could get to that exciting point, there was something that was bothering him.

Closer, closer and closer; The Yuudeshi invaded the personal space of Zero and stared intently at her cheeks. In one single motion, he swiped the air around them with his right hand, materialized a white napkin and cleaned the tiny remains of apple away from her mouth and face that Toki neglected to see.

Or, perhaps, maybe his vision was a little TOO hyper-focused for his own good. Whatever the case may be, he wanted to fix it and make her as clean and spiffy as possible.

"Little girls shouldn't run around with crumbs on their mouth. At least not while they are with me...."

And with that, The Yuudeshi would then lean back and observe what her reaction would be before asking one more grunt-filled question:

"...and just where exactly does this little brat want to go?"

“Ya don’t?!”

Zero said in response to the albino’s accusation that she believed wheelchair bound people to be the worse society had to offer. She leaned her upper body away from the man, placed her right hand on her chest, and fixed a look of absolute horror onto her face. To her credit, she didn’t immediately bust out laughing at her own reaction, but that was probably because she had more to say about the most evil members of society.

“Mister, don’t ya know that wheelchair bound people are absolute terrors?! Ya never know what they could be hiding on them. Underestimate them for a second and ya find ya self with a new hole on ya body.”

She paused for a moment, the façade of a horrified girl cracking at this moment though she did her best to suppress a smile long enough to deliver the kicker.

“But they ain’t as frightening as one donned in a body cast. Have ya seen the weapons on them?!”

She chuckled, the brunette immediately covering up the smile that had made its way upon her face though she was unable to hide the twinkle in her eyes. This mister was amusing, he would definitely make a good playmate for the day. If she liked him enough, she probably move him up to the person she annoyed when she had nothing better to do, though that would require her to know of his location at all times or at least know the most common places to find him. A task that wasn’t hard for anyone who knew the male, but would be quite daunting for the teen for several reasons.

She was elated he decided to stick around for however long it took her family to arrive at the festival instead of running away. Though, that may have done nothing more then intrigue her further which would’ve resulted in her giving chase. Either way, the girl had a playmate now and by goodness she would get him to buy, win, and play just about everything the festival had to offer.

“Hey! Maybe I was saving those crumbs for later, mister!”

She whined, the brunette appearing to briefly ignore the mister in favour of mourning the poor crumbs she would be unable to consume. Of course, she didn’t mourn long since there was plenty where that came from and so, Zero became chipper again within seconds. Hands interlocked behind her back, she pushed herself up on her toes.

“First, my name is Zero. And second, I think ya should go sit in the dunking booth for destroying any chance those crumbs had of being in my belly.”

What a goof.

That was the first line of thought that entered into The Yuudeshi's mind as he witnessed the girl's reaction to his sarcastic quips. Honestly, if he wasn't so bugged out, he might have found it humorous. However, his stern expression remained, but his body language seemed to relax as his shoulders eased and he eventually gave way to a half-sigh at her ridiculousness.

...

Buuuutttt, yeah, there was no point in hiding it. The guy was beginning to give way into a semi smirk before he replied to her in an almost mocking tone:

"Tch, why else would I be on edge, brat? The disabled like to crowd around in packed places like this and commit their acts of armed terrorism."

With that said, the snarky male would then give a firm flick of the forehead to the girl and stare for a moment at the stars behind her eyes. If nothing else, it felt as if he had experianced this moment in another time or place. He'd be inclined to mull on it, if it weren't for the fact the festive girl before him started yammering off at the mouth again.

So that earned herself another flick upon the forehead, but this one didn't have as much force behind it as the other. Because, well, it lacked impact strength if for no other reason than the fact that his mind was still being nagged at by that elusive feeling of nostalgia. But, as she started to pout and whine like a small little girl would do, the memory started to come back a bit.

Ah. That was it.

The male would almost seem to zone out and ignore the female in return before his mind processed what had happened. Once he was within his senses again, the male promptly gave the girl a gentle chop of the hand on the top of of her head. It was silly for her to believe that she was honestly going to honestly eat those crumbs...

...but that's just the things a child would do, eh?

"Keep acting like that and you'll remind me of my little girls when they were your age."

While still firm and stern, the voice of The Yuudeshi seemed to have softened a bit and an exasperated sigh exited his lips. The kind of sigh that was irked, but understanding of the antics a kid would play. And, it is these actions that triggered this oh so familiar feeling and reaction from the male.

"But now you are speaking like a brat."

Chop, chop.

Another chop to the head was given.

"If you want to introduce yourself to others, that isn't the way to do it, but I'll play along."

Then, the hands were retracted to prevent any further chops. The right side of his body leaned on his cane and he'd observe whatever reaction the school girl gave after his words and actions.

"My name is Shadin Yuudeshi: professional destroyer of brats hopes and dreams. Just like yours."

Chop. chop.

Oh, that was a lie.

Another hand-chop to the head would do and he would have his fill of that non-sense before cutting to the chase.

"But consider this your lucky day, brat. Name the food you want and I'll see if I'm patient enough to want to buy it to replace your precious crumbs."

The ball was then tossed in the court of the school girl. Just what food would she pick? Hopefully it was something decent as he was feeling rather starved himself.
